Honda is replacing faulty transmissions with rebuilt transmissions that are just as faulty, if not more so, than the original. my 2000 honda odyssey is currently at the dealer waiting for its 4th transmission. after the first one failed at 62k miles, the dealer assured me that honda had fixed the issues and that the replacement would not have the same problem. woo hoo for honda! they acknowledged a problem, fixed it, and took measures to address it at no cost to the customer. they scored big points with that move... until the second transmission failed 57k miles later (10k miles past the 109k class action warranty extension). when i brought it back to the dealer this time, i questioned him over and over again about the quality of the transmission they were about to install. he acknowledged that some of the early replacements did still have problems, but honda really had fixed them this time. i took his word for it, but sure enough, 38k miles later, that one failed too. how can honda continue to get away with installing these faulty replacement transmissions? i'm now looking at the work order for the fourth transmission and it lists the part number as '06200-p7t-030rm warranty a/t kit'. this is the exact same part number that was on the invoices for the second and third transmissions. really? they keep telling me they've fixed the problems, but the part number stays the same and the outcome doesn't change? this is fraud. they are charging excessive amounts of money ($4,000-6,000) for a product that has proven to be faulty (just do a google search on 'odyssey transmission'), and are intentionally putting the safety of thousands of people at risk. *tr

2nd faulty transmission! my story echoes many others (e.g. odi 10354768) in that my 2000 honda odyssey required a new transmission after 5 years/65k miles (extended mfg warranty covered that one) and now another new one after 5 more years, 60k miles (not covered by honda; rebuilt through my personal mechanic and aamco). so frustrating, expensive, and mimicked by other honda owners' experience. what will it take to bend honda's mgmt to the customer's side? *tr

I purchased a 2000 honda odyssey in september, 1999. at approximately 42,000 miles the transmission went out and it was replaced under warranty. no rental car was available from the dealership. approximately 49,000 miles later the first replacement went out and it had to be replaced again...this time under warranty with a warning that i was getting a big break. again, for 4 days i had to go without a vehicle. now it's 45,000 miles later and the second replacement is also done...this time the car was dangerous to drive as the gears slipped and there was no power to accelerate. this time i have been denied any assistance or compensation by honda and the bill for the "new" transmission is $4,700. this is due to being outside of the extended warranty of 109,000 miles. i left the car at the dealership in order to think about my options. three (3) transmissions in 136,000 miles. are you kidding me? my question is...and i don't think it's an unfair one...what kind of sub-par transmissions were they throwing into my vehicle? this is not a normal life span of a transmission; 40,000 miles. if i were to have it replaced again, i would be driving on my fourth transmission in 10 years. please; someone explain to me how this is permissible. like most everything these days, where is the accountability? *tr

2000 honda odyssey transmission problem in january of 2008, the check engine light came on it my van showing a transmission code. i took it to a honda dealer because i heard of a class action lawsuit concerning their transmissions. the dealer replaced the transmission with a rebuilt transmission. my vehicle had only @53 ,000 miles on it at the time. august odf 2010, my check engine light came on again with another transmission code. my vehicle has only @84,000 miles on it. i spoke with ed voyles honda and honda customer service. they advised that they are doing nothing else concerning the class action settlement per their japan office. the dealer advised me that if i would have paid for a portion of the repair it would have came with a warranty. if i knew that i would have paid some towards the repair. i discovered honda only provided a warranty on the rebuilt transmission until the class action lawsuit expired. 1999-2001 honda transmissions had a know problem with their transmission. they but a band aid on the problem until the class action lawsuit was over. the rebuilt transmission lasted just a little less than the original transmission. the information i read shows they treated each customer differently concerning the class action suit. the service manager made sure he told me you didn't buy your vehicle from us and you don't have it service here. he was correct and i would be buying one from them either. *tr

There has been multiple transmission problems with the 2000 honda odyssey and after a repair in 5/2007, honda refuses to stand behind any warranty. this issue has been ongoing since the car was new. *tr

Electric back doors are inconsistent with either not opening/shutting all the way. sometimes will not open at all. not safe with children/persons in backseats for emergency situations. honda repaired once when under certified warranty. has happened several times after. vehicle not under warranty and honda dealer is charging astronomical amount to repair. saying there could be electrical shorts and possible danger. hope something can be done to help all of us, according to online info, several hundred similar complaints exist. *tr

Purchased a used 2000 honda odyssey in 2005; at the time of purchase the veh was still under limited manufactures warranty. very well aware of the transmission recall. we are now going on our 4th transmission replacement since the purchase. the last replacement was in february 2008; they made me fight for a warranty on that refurbished / replacement transmission 3 year or 36,000 miles. well this one barely lasted 12,000 miles and i am completely fed up. my wife transports my remaining 4 school aged children around. this vehicle has stalled on numerous times in busy traffic, and this time around i will not except a refurbished or rebuilt or used tranny. i will fight for a new one, or a complete refund of the money spent! *tr

March 2007. was informed by honda dealership in irvine, ca that the problem that existed with my 2000 honda odyssey not providing cold air was in fact a damaged a/c condenser. the service tech. showed me the area in the front of the vehicle where the damage to the a/c condenser had occurred. the service tech informed me that the result was most likely from a rock or similar object striking the condenser. after further reviewing the damaged condenser, i realized that the condenser is mounted in such a fashion in the front of the vehicle as not having the protection from road debris that it possibly should. there is only a small grill that covers the front of the a/c condenser. i firmly believe that a design problem exists with the odyssey, in the fact that i have read numerous complaints similar to my situation that others currently or previously have had with the honda odyssey. *jb

Power doors consistently fail to operate properly. passenger side sliding door opens while driving and, often, cannot be shut manually. the last visit to the dealership, 2 days ago, they informed us they would replace some of the door parts. despite 'fixing' the problem, the door will not shut at all and the dealer replaced the sensors so it no longer buzzes when the door is open. this is a severe problem. van has been in 12x for this problem. driver side sliding door often does not open at all. *ak

2000 honda odyssey suffered air conditioner failure. *mr the a/c was not out of warranty when it failed, however honda refused to make the repairs free of charge because it was 4 months over their 36 months warranty program. *scc *jb

I have a 2000 honda odyssey lx. the cup holder in the rear seat does not hold the cup properly and often falls off. this has caused beverage spill on the persons in the car at that time. at least two of the spills were from hot beverage. i have reported this to the manufacturer but they say that it is not a recall. interestingly they have changed the cup holders in their newer models. *la

On june 16, 2000 my 2000 honda odyessy was rear ended or hit by another vehicle in the rear bumper. the cause of the accident was the transmission failure with only 6,000 miles on the odyessy. i was southbound on euclid ave. at interstate 5. i was stopped at a red light in a uphill position. i was the first vehicle at the light. when the light turn green, i proceeded to go and my odyssey transmission slipped and then caught and then the engine stalled out. this caused the odyssey to lurch forward and then stop suddenly. when the odyssey stopped i still had my foot on the gas to go so that no brake lights came on to warn the drivers to my rear that my vehicle was about to stop. my odyssey was hit in the rear bumper by the vehicle to my rear. the accident was reported to the anaheim police who came to the scene and made report # dr no 00-23199. the vehicle to my rear was without insurance. i reported this accident to honda of america and the called me back to inform me that they would not assume responsibility for the damages to my vehicle. i have not had an appraisal of my damages yet it could be several thousand dollars. i am holding off because on the appraisal because the vehicle behind mine had no insurance and american honda claims no responsibility. on a separate incident on june 24, 2000 my left rear tire blue out at 70 mph with only 7,500 miles on it. i came to a safe stop and had the tire replaced for $100.00 . another problem is that the brakes grind with a metal to metal sound when coming to a complete stop. another problem is that my power steering sometimes hesitates and jerks. another problem is when running the rear airconditioning on high the rear blower speed fluctuates like as if it has a bad connection. another problem that i have noticed since the colder weather around november, 2000 when i use the defroster on the front windows it smells like an electrical fire, or like wires are burning. *ak (dot number: m30d tiresize: p215/65r16)
