The car lurches when accelarating from a standing stop. it feels like the transmission is catching, and is a jerky movement. has gotten worse in 2004 when the engine warning light has been on at least three times. *ak we bought the car "new" from what was apparently canadian inv entory. we were told that because the car was canadian the original warranty did not apply and the dealer provided 3rd party coverage. while we did report the issue during the coverage period, it was not clear what exactly it was (at least to us) and was not identified as a transmission problem. only in 2004 have we and the dealer concluded it was definately a transmission issue. honda usa will not acknowledge the problem because it is a "gray market vechicle" and said we must deal with honda canada, and honda canada says it is a us problem and won't deal with it. while the dealer is supportive and their service department has worked with us, they direct us to the manufacturer as they say the third party coverage has expired and the gray market vechicle has no warranty. i feel i have a safety issue and that neither honda or the dealer will stand behind their vechicle. when i discussed the issue with honda canada, they told me the vin indicated that a previous owner was budget rental cars, so how they are involved in the shifting of dealer inventory is questionable at best. i don't understand why they are allowed to operate in this way, and why the manufacturer and/or the dealer will not stand behind the vehicle and address a serious problem. this problem is not normal and should not be happening on a car with 65,000 miles, especially one that has been well maintained with all scheduled service.

When backing up hill, will intermittently hear a single, loud clunk from transmission. it gets worse with time. currently, happens more often than it originally did. dealer has ordered new transmission.*ak

A problem with a transmission failur,. reason unknown. dealer notified, and informed consumer that they are aware of the problem, and replacement would be done under warranty. feel free to provide any further details. *ak

When in reverse, there was an occasional clunking noise. transmission was replaced to corrrect problelm.

On june 16, 2000 my 2000 honda odyessy was rear ended or hit by another vehicle in the rear bumper. the cause of the accident was the transmission failure with only 6,000 miles on the odyessy. i was southbound on euclid ave. at interstate 5. i was stopped at a red light in a uphill position. i was the first vehicle at the light. when the light turn green, i proceeded to go and my odyssey transmission slipped and then caught and then the engine stalled out. this caused the odyssey to lurch forward and then stop suddenly. when the odyssey stopped i still had my foot on the gas to go so that no brake lights came on to warn the drivers to my rear that my vehicle was about to stop. my odyssey was hit in the rear bumper by the vehicle to my rear. the accident was reported to the anaheim police who came to the scene and made report # dr no 00-23199. the vehicle to my rear was without insurance. i reported this accident to honda of america and the called me back to inform me that they would not assume responsibility for the damages to my vehicle. i have not had an appraisal of my damages yet it could be several thousand dollars. i am holding off because on the appraisal because the vehicle behind mine had no insurance and american honda claims no responsibility. on a separate incident on june 24, 2000 my left rear tire blue out at 70 mph with only 7,500 miles on it. i came to a safe stop and had the tire replaced for $100.00 . another problem is that the brakes grind with a metal to metal sound when coming to a complete stop. another problem is that my power steering sometimes hesitates and jerks. another problem is when running the rear airconditioning on high the rear blower speed fluctuates like as if it has a bad connection. another problem that i have noticed since the colder weather around november, 2000 when i use the defroster on the front windows it smells like an electrical fire, or like wires are burning. *ak (dot number: m30d tiresize: p215/65r16)

When the van is shift on reverse and going back about three feet there is a loud bang in the front of the van, it is like going over something but after looking each time it happents there is nothing in the pavement. i already took it once to the dealer but they couldnt find nothing. it has happent again two more times and i will take it back to dealer.

When it is in 4th gear - 50 mph, engine drops to 1500 rpm and noise begins. it sounds like muffled valve clattering. honda dealership claims that it's designed that way, and i confirmed that other van has same noise. there is part(s) in transmission that is failing on most van. the noise will get louder - possibility of catastrophic failure on the road, a major safety issue!!!! *ak( dot number: tire size: p215/65r16 )

Transmission failed. nlm

Transmission replaced at approximately 1000 miles due to defective torque converter according to servicing honda dealership. van pulls hard to the right. problem first noted day after delivery. has been in dealership service department several times for this problem. dealer replaced firestone tires with michelins, replaced wheels and performed 4 wheel alignment. pulling to right problem not solved. returned to dealer and the service manager verified that it is not a wheel, tire nor alignment problem. service manager told me that it is probably due to the crown in the road. van pulls hard to right on all roads within a matter of seconds of taking hands of off the wheel. my other two vehicles driven on the same roads and in the same lanes do not pull to the right nor left. *ak( dot number: )

This is a brand new minivan, purchased with only 9 miles in odometer. after a week of driving it, it began to feel like it need it more rev in order to pick-up speed, specially when driving in freeway conditions (traffic). the van did not downshift as expected for about 10 minutes, in order to gain speed, i had to press the accelerator until the engine reached 3k rpm, and even then the transmission noise continued. it is not a continuos occurance, it is doing it every four to five days. i took the van to the dealer where i bought the van and service inspected the vehicle through a computer, which detected nothing wrong with the van, although the service manager had noticed the problem. in the first instance i was given the van back without anything done to it, except for a transmission fluid flush. five days latter, on april 17, 2000 the noise and train problem showed up again, this time more serious. i took the van to another dealer, and they performed a computer test that again showed nothing wrong with the vehicle, however the new service adviser did notice the problem when he took it for a test drive. honda was contacted and the company adviced a complete replacement of the transmission. being such a popular model the needed transmission is not available and according to honda it will take up to 30 days to get a replacement , hopefully new. another area of concern is the brake pedal, one can hear the booster when pressing the pedal and at times the brakes do not engage inmediatelly. so far service has not been able to look into the problem since the transmission matter is of more importance. i really appreciate this opportunity to inform your agency of the problems i have encounter. sincerely, rene rodriguez

When putting car in reverse it made a popping noise like it was running over something. took vehicle to dealer, and they said it was the transmission, consumer has been waiting since march 14th for transmission. *ak

The transmission contained a bearing flaw which caused the transmission to spontaneously down shift from 4th to 2nd gear, this problem also caused a severe vibration in the transmission. *ts *jb

Transmission slippage at 100,000 miles even though regular services done on the car. *tr

Vehicle has experienced continuous vibration problems with the transmission. consumer believes that torque converter vibrations which are a known issue, significantly increases the potential for a bearing failure, and could result in spontaneous 4-2 downshifts. consumer requests that honda replace the transmission. consumer relations department informed consumer that a replacement will not be made until the transmission fails. *jg. *ak

Transmission is making a noise, torque converter vibrating causing noise. consumer is concerned that transmission may fail. ak *jb

Honda odyssey purchased in 2000 has had transmission replaced twice. currently in litigation with honda inc with nj lemon law. several meetings with honda reps (to include arbitration) have resulted in no satisfaction. i cannot depend on this vehicle for any of my transportation needs due to continuing problems and safety concerns.*ak
