Problems with 1999 Honda Odyssey LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES

On average, the 1999 Honda Odyssey starts to “feel” problems with the LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES and its various aspects after 80 986 miles.

Recently reported LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES problems on 1999 Honda Odyssey

Sliding door latch was previously replaced. but sliding door will still open unexpectedly. if occupant is not seat belted he/she may be fall out of the vehicle. dealer said he needs to replace sliding door latch. but, the part is on back order. common problem. please provide further information.*ak

Intermittently when van is turned off sliding door on driver's side will open on its own. this has been a problem for about two weeks. van was taken to dealership. keyless entry was reprogrammed, but sliding door will not lock or unlock. *ak

While driving sliding door on passenger's side opened a quarter way for no reason at all. both sliding doors never opened or closed properly. problem was reported to the dealership. this was the fourth time that dealership has tried to correct this problem. please provide any further information. *ak

While driving the sliding doors on both sides (right and left) will pop open without a prior warning. *ak

The left and right sliding doors of my 1999 honda odyssey ex do not rebound when consistant pressure is applied. it takes various levels of pressure to get the doors to rebound while closing. at times , i feel the pressure to rebound these doors are too much for small children and elderly people. i have complained to both honda windward and american honda and have documents that claim that nothing can be done to remedy my complaint. both honda windward and american honda do not consider my doors a problem and say the excessive pressure is normal operation of the odyssey. i feel this is a safety issue that should be looked into by your office. *ak

The sliding door behind the driver will not open many times. sometimes it sticks and even my husband can only open it after repeated powerful pulls. sometimes it stays locked. the other sliding door is very difficult to open sometimes also. *tr

Other problems have included loose gasket at front windshield, sticking left passenger sliding door, squeaky brakes (not yet resolved) and pulling to right hand side of road

Alert buzzer of both sliding doors go off intermittently while driving. the vehicle has been taken to the dealer 5-6 times. the tracks and contacts have been cleaned, does not remedy the problem.*jb due to the constant buzzing of the door alarm as if the door is opened, consumer resulted to turning off the automatic door feature, but when using the doors manually, the doors are hard to open. *tt

Consumer experienced problems with the sliding door on his 1999 honda odyssey. *nm within 5 months of owning the vehicle the door would open while driving. the door latch assembly was replaced under recall. 5 months later, the door would not shut and the buzzer continued to stay on. the dealer only lubed the track and cleaned the contacts. after another 5 months, the door would not close properly, the dealer then replaced the power door latch for the second time on the drivers sliding door and the replacement last for 2 years. on sept 30, 2002 the door would not close and the dealer replaced passenger latch and closer motor which was the second time for the passenger door latch. the same problem happened again in dec 2004, but on the drivers side and on may 26, 2005 for the sixth time. *jb *nm

The right side sliding door seems to slide open by itself. this has happened several times, although, thankfully, it has not yet happened when the vehicle was in motion. all incidents have been when the vehicle was stationary.

Recall component (99v-158) for sliding door is being experienced, latch/motor failure, however repair under recall is denied due to vin #, repair completed (consumer paid) however failed. mjs

Rear passenger sliding door sometimes opens when a bump is hit, or they won't open when trying to exit. sometimes consumer has to ride with them open because they don't latch shut. honda has been contacted. *ak

Consumer received two recalls 99v-158000 and 99v157000, concerning honda/sliding door latch, and honda/air intake resonator; dealer been notified and still informing consumer of no parts received. seeking nhtsa help in this matter before injury or even death may occur because dealer not taking mfr. recall seriously. *ak

Vehicle experienced symptom of recall(passenger side door is very hard to open and rattles, driver's side door locks by itself and the other doors remain unlocked) prior to notice (99v-158) vehicle repair under recall but part failed again. yh

Sliding door continues to open automatically while driving, unable to close properly and open properly. mjs

Consumer has problem with sliding door not opening. consumer received recall notice for sliding door latchthat was repaired. dealer is trying to repair problem. *ak

Check engine light on, rough sound on accleration at 50 mph. *slc
