The ignition is keyless. i pressed to turn off the engine and it shut off. but i forgot to shift into park. i exited the car. the car started rolling backward. i ran back to it, jumped in and shifted to park, stopping the car. if i hadn't noticed and stopped the car, someone might have been hurt. when you stop the engine, there should be an automatic shift to park or an automatic activation of the emergency brake.
While driving at a slow speed in a parking lot vehicle misfired and all electrical components became nonfunctional. lost some control of the vehicle. parked car immediately and car started to rev itself while in park without pushing the pedal. all system alert indicators came on indicating issues with multiple electrical & engine components. turned car off for a minute. turned car back on and all indicator lights remained. called local honda dealership immediately and had towed to dealership. honda dealership indicated that they noticed misfires as well when testing and car was not performing well. dealership indicated the following in diagnostic report: "found engine oil to be over filled. code p0300 randam misfire. there was gas in the fuel - performed oil change and updated the pgm - fi system" after conducting research we found that this is a known issue with honda crv 2018 models, but there is not an official recall. it is a known issue by honda that gas gets in to the oil panel and dilutes the oil with gas. this is both a safety and mechanical issue that needs fixed. this is a safety issue as had our car misfired at higher speed this could have easily caused an accident with the amount of lost control of the vehicle. this will also assuredly effect the life of the vehicles engine as oil is diluted by gas. the dealership was not forthcoming with information regarding this known issue by honda of gas getting into the oil tank and causing stalling and misfires issues just as what happened to us. it was not until we told them we found information on it ourselves did they recognize it. we were informed by the dealership that our particular vin had already had the update and fix that was suggested by honda for this issue. if that is the case, then it did not remedy our vehicle, and this is still a safety issue honda needs to rectify with its customers.
I have had numerous problems with my crv, most recently a complete malfunction where car did not go over 10 mph and dashboard lights all flashing on alert. honda mechanics told me this was my fault for overfilling my oil tank. wanted to charge me $2500 for a new catalytic converter. after much negotiating they lowered cost. however i have since seen this is a common problem with this model and should have been recognized as such. *tr
On december 22, 2019 i was headed to church on a four-lane highway and heard the sound coming from the engine, a loud metal to metal sound and the vehicle died. i was able to restart the car and pulled off the road and had car hauled to dealership where i purchased the vehicle and where i had it maintained. i had the vehicle hauled over to dealership on a trailer to avoid driving it. after the dealership investigated, they found that the oil to the engine was blocked but couldn't determine what blocked the oil. hearing metal to metal it could have been shavings from the metal rubbing together. it is january 9, 2020 and i am still without a my car. they replaced the engine and had it ready on saturday, january 5, 2020. however, when i drove off in it, the engine was roaring. so, i took it right back and left it once again. they called me on monday, january 6, 2020 and said my car was ready once again. i went back to dealership in which i work in 53 mile away. i test drove it and the roaring sound was still there. they (the service department) thought it was the tires so they rotated the tires and still heard the roaring sound. they decided it was the wheel bearing. wheel bearings should not go out in a 2018 vehicle. i felt the roaring was still in the engine. i will hopefully pick my car up on friday, january 10, 2020 in hopes the roaring sound is gone. i believe this issue is related to the issue the 2017 and 2018 honda crv owners are experiencing with the oil. nevertheless, a 2018 honda touring should not have all these issues. i am an unhappy customer and now i feel the value of my car is depreciated.
Stalling while i was traveling in traffic. oil dip stick smells like gasoline is "overfull" on oil mark. *ln vehicle hesitated and stalled because ok had been drained to a lower level once and replaced 2 times. consumer stated fuel injectors were replaced. *jb
Hi every time lately at the lights or when i left my car on my driveway or at parking lot a very strong gasoline odor comes most likely from the front/engine. please advise.
Driving in town going to store smelled something like dead animal or some hair burning horrible smell almost got sick and or passed out. next couple of times i drove it the smell got better but i told my son. i couldn't drive it anymore cause i was getting sick. then the smell went away and oil light came on saying i had 15% oil life left. me and my son smelled oil stick and it smelled like gasoline. tires were worn on the inside on all four at 11,940. miles. i had to pay my own money to balance them again
My 2018 honda cr v has the 1.5 litre turbo engine. i have reviewed several hundred complaints that have been filed regarding the mixing of the fuel/gas with the engine oil. the issue seems to be more prevalent in the north, however, i have the same issue here in oklahoma. upon engine start there is a strong odor of gasoline coming from the rear passenger seating. i have also noted increase oil levels in the engine crankcase. also the smell of gasoline coming from the oil dipstick. i am writing to inquire if honda motor company intends to do something to remedy this issue. the smell starts at the moment the engine is started.. the car can be stationary and i can still notice the smell of fuel. prolonged exposure of fuel in the crankcase will certainly reduce the life of these engines. please advise me as to how i can resolve this matter with honda? thank you.
Oil dilution bad gas smell from oil can cause a fire car only has 3750 miles
Gas leaks into the engine while i'm driving, which will inevitably engine failure and the car will stall while driving, this poses a risk for motor vehicle collision.. the honda dealer where i purchased the vehicle is aware of this and recommended an oil change. 48 hours later my oil is completely diluted with gasoline again. there is a strong gas odor in the cabin of my car which is a health hazard to myself and my 2 small children, one with asthma. i've contacted honda of america several times regarding this issue with no solution.
Gasoline is leaking into the engine oil. a warranty repair was done jan 2019 to resolve the problem but in sept 2019 the engine oil was noted to be above full and smell of gasoline. the car was brought in for further repair but no further repair is available and because honda claims this to be "a normal characteristic" of the car, no oil change was done either. however, the honda 2018 cr-v manual clearly points out that over filling the oil may lead to leaks or engine damage. copies of the repair receipt and honda oil overfill warning are attached.
2018 honda crv ex: mileage 20,165. upon accelerating while pulling the car on main roadway, the car dropped from 50mph to 25mph and then wouldn't reach past 35mph, the engine light appeared and started to blink. pushing the gas pedal only aggravated the situation. about a mile later the car stopped/stalled trying to go up a hill. i turned off car, waited 10 min and restarted. was able to go another 1 mile to home, i did not attempt to go over 25 mph, because engine light was still blinking. the next morning, i drove the car to the dealer, but made sure i did not go over 30mph, as i did not want it to stall. during the drive the engine light was still blinking. waiting to hear back.from the dealer. i believe this is a powertrain issue that has been documented by honda and all 2017/2018 crvs have been recalled in china and europe, but not the us.
I bought car used from gm dealership 3/16/19, wasn't aware of problem until first scheduled oil change.gas mixing in with oil causing oil level to rise significantly over short period of time, about a quart high with around 2,000 miles driven, mostly highway. honda service had me bring in vehicle after oil change to check level, then again after 1,000 miles to recheck. brought in in after about 1700 miles and oil was up about a quart according to service manager. honda dealer performed software "fix" to alleviate problem, but after 1,500 miles, oil level up significantly again. dealer contends honda doesn't have protocols in place to take care of issue yet. car in honda dealership today again for assessment, third oil change in 2 months. difficult to evaluate cars performance since i bought used and never had normal baseline to compare to.
Car purchased new from west hills honda, bremerton wa, in december 2017. equipped with 1.5 liter engine. gasoline is getting into the engine oil; high oil levels in crankcase. gasoline fumes. stationary and in motion; car is driven daily.
Fluid level was above full mark, 8/3.19.
While changing oil and filter at 30,000 miles 1) oil appeared highly diluted and watery 2) there was a strong gasoline smell coming from the used oil i took vehicle in for service and was told gas in oil is normal for these type engines but honda had extended warranty for these engines. i asked about the software 'fix' i had read about being performed and dealer said they could not make the update to my car since it wasnot showing any diagnostic trouble codes at this point.
This vehicle after having 4500 miles, began to smell terribly of gasoline inside and outside of the vehicle. the vehicle sputtered , did not want to run, and stalled a few times before i wound up at the dealership. i also noticed that when the little wrench came on, for a notification of the first oil change, that the vehicle made a loud growling noise. the vehicle is sitting in the dealership right now waiting a hopeful repair. here i am with no vehicle, and a $400 per month payment. this is absolutely unacceptable in today's world. this problem should have been fixed, before the vehicle was allowed to be put up for sale . a vehicle is deemed not safe, when it's stalls on you in the middle of traffic.
Raw fuel smell inside cabin and outside of vehicle . engine oil diluted and oil level increased . fuel mixed in with oil .
In the winter, i noticed a reduction in power from the vehicle. the engine began to run rough and stalled a few times in parking lots. there was the smell of gas and sulfates coming through the vents. the oil level was very high. i took the car to the dealer and they changed the oil. four months later with normal use of the vehicle, the smell of gas is again coming through the vents, the engine seems to be running rough again, and the oil level is high. i fear the vehicle will stall in a dangerous situation, and the fumes in the cabin make me feel sick.
Oil dilution cause engine wear in short time
While changing the oil myself at 14,00 miles i noticed the oil level was more than a half inch above the full line and smelled of strongly of gasoline i checked online to see if other crv oweners were experiencing the same issue. this appears to be a widespread problem with honas 1.5 turbo engine. after reading about the issue i was reminded of two instances this past winter when the vehicle cabin smelled strongly of gasoline, both times while stopped in traffic.
I purchased this 1.5 turbo and found out later the gasoline flows into the oil pan mixing together. honda says this is a common occurrence and i disagree . while purchasing this honda , the dealership never mentioned this situation. i feel that i purchased this honda cr-v , 1.5 turbo under fraudulent terms. everyone knows that when gasoline is mixed with oil, the oil protection is reduced proportionately. respectfully submitted, (xxxxx) parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Cr-v with now 6000 miles on it gets oil in gas. oil changed at dealer twice. dealer says honda knows about this problem, but my car vin not included in recall. have contacted american honda but was unable to get fix authorized. this car is defective and under warranty. getting fix should not be a problem! gas in oil may also be a fire hazard.
Engine stalled after more than 2 hours highway drive; after 20 minutes break the engines ran again; this problem happened twice over last 2 weeks.
Fuel mixing in oil system, loosing power that can cause an acident.
The engine oil level increases as the car is driven. changed oil after 7500 mile interval, and the used oil was 1.2 quarts more than when first installed. oil is being diluted
While changing the oil and filter at 20, 496 miles, i noticed the following: 1) oil level had risen on the dipstick significantly higher than when originally filled 2) oil appeared highly diluted and watery 3) there was a strong gasoline smell coming from the used oil this situation has been widely documented. https://www.consumerreports.org/car-repair-maintenance/honda-delays-cr-v-turbo-engine-fix-details-rollout-plans/
Gas is leaking into oil. disolution of oil impacts lubrication of engine. the vehicle is parked and engine cold. more fluid is in the crank case than was added at the last oil change. the oil smelss of gas.
Tl* the contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. while driving 70 mph, the vehicle stalled and the tire pressure warning indicator illuminated. the contact pulled over and had the vehicle towed to hendrick honda woodbridge (14201 jefferson davis hwy, woodbridge, va 22191, (703) 496-4751). the dealer changed the oil, but the failure recurred. the failure occurred intermittently. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 66,000.
Gasoline is mixing with oil. overfilling the dipstick line. the oil has the smell of gasoline. recall performed at dealership in dec 2018 did not take care of problem. took to dealership april 19 2019 found to be a quart overfilled mixed with gadoline
Initial oil change on 2018 honda cr-v ex with 1.5 turbo engine at 2303 miles. one week after changing oil noticed oil level had increased over 1/8" on dipstick and that oil on dipstick smells strongly of gasoline (oil level check was performed several hours after driving). dilution of oil with gasoline is obviously detrimental to continued engine operation - therefore i can no longer drive my new vehicle. research of the issue and identical symptoms from numerous owners clearly proves that honda does not accept responsibility for this catastrophic design flaw (not in america anyway). appears only possible solutions are class action lawsuit, lemon laws or waiting for honda to man up. the obvious misinformation and corruption of the manufacturer toward their customers, concerning this well documented issue, is (imho) disgusting! it is not normal or in anyway safe or ok for engine crankcases to fill up with gasoline....ever!!! the fuel in oil issue is not the issue (design flaws happen when manufacturers fail to properly test new designs)...honda's corrupt treatment of customers with the issue is the real issue and continued similar behavior just might put them out of business permanently.
I noticed my oil was overfilled early in april 2019. honda has a known problem with 2017 & 2018 crvs with the 1.5 twin turbo engines with gasoline getting into the oil, i called honda corp & they had valley honda look at the car. they removed 1/2 qt oil from the car. you can smell the gasoline in the oil they said the car is safe & drive it. i am concerned about the safety of the car % warranty on the engine... the chinese govt had honda recall all these crvs but i cant find out what the recall involved.. can u help me... thank you
We were driving from bridgeport,wv to new jersey on 2/9/19. four hours into the trip carall the lights on dash board came on and car slowed down and accelerator did not work at that point. car stopped on the high way. we pulled over called aaa service and toyota. we took the car in to honda of turnersville, nj they fix multiple dtc updated po302 related recall, updated pcm/tcu no more misfire. car now we are having the same problem again. this week its twice.
Gasoline dilutes engine oil under normal driving conditions. the engine oil level was approximately 1/4 inch above the maximum oil fill line on the dipstick after 5000 miles. informed dealer and american honda. i was told there is no fix available for my vehicle.
On 3 different occasions, while driving the car on the interstate highway, it started vibrating, and would not accelerate, burning smell occurred, several warning lights came up on the dashboard. we had to navigate the car from the middle of highway to the shoulder of the highway very abruptly. it was a near death experience as several trucks and cars were traveling on the highway at very fast speeds. reported the first occurrence to the mcgrath city honda, chicago, il in january 2019 along with the dashboard warning light pictures and they replaced some fuel sensors and informed me that this was a manufacturing issue (defective part). second incident occurred in february 2019, could not take photos as the problems went away after restarting the engine. reported the third incident in march 2019 along with the dashboard warning light pictures to the same dealership and i was informed that there is a problem with fuel injector and they placed the order for the part. we are really, really scared of driving this defective, malfunctioning and hazardous vehicle. i searched the internet last night and it seems several other honda crv owners are having these issues. please investigate this serious issue and save the people.
Oil diluted by gas. gas smell in oil. also causes overfill of crankcase. gas in oil dilutes oil causing excessive and unnecessary wear and tear.
Second time this car's warning system has activated since having the recalled a/c part replaced. while driving (hwy speeds 65+ mph)the car is losing acceleration ability in traffic and the dash is reading: power steering system problem road departure mitigation system problem electric parking brake problem tire pressure monitor problem emission system problem all wheel drive system problem brake system problem brake hold system problem. the first time the vehicle was brought to the dealer they could not tell what the problem was, but now this is the second occurrence since feb 2019.
Gasoline leaking into oil. checking dipstick gives very strong smell of gas. as yet no stalls. 5000 miles on oil and the oil level is at or above full. car is driven in moderate climate and for typical mixture of trips.
The oil level remains elevated even after the repair/recall to address earth dream engine problems
Fuel in oil
Oil level on dip stick is about 1 and 1/2 inches above high mark. oil was changed 6639 miles ago. current milage is 14200.
Fuel is leaking into the oil system. oil has very strong smell of gasoline. oil dilution is doing untold damage to engine.
Oil level on dip stick is 1/2 ' above the full mark. honda dealership performed the factories fix in january 2019. 2500 miles later same thing oil level is a 1/2 ' above high mark on dip stick. i took it back to the honda dealership and they refused to even check the oil level. they handed me a piece of paper that states that they consider it normal dilution from unturned gas that drains down the cylinder wall and into the oil pan.
Tl* the contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. the contact noticed a fuel odor coming from the engine compartment. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that there was dark oil in the crank case. the mechanic changed the oil, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to honda of el cerrito (866)-414-9404, located at 11755 san pablo ave, el cerrito, ca 94530)where the technician changed the oil and stated that there was no failure with the vehicle. the failure recurred and the vehicle was taken back to the same dealer who performed a diagnostic test and kept the vehicle for more tests. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 4,000.
Terrible gas smell inside the vehicle. very strong gas odor almost enough to give us a headache. we googled gas smell issue for a 2018 crv and read information about checking oil to see if the strong gas smell is coming there. oil dipstick smelled very strong for gas. plan to contact honda and the dealer tomorrow to see what can be done.
My 2018 honda cr-v is have a problem with overfilled oil levels with a gas mixed with engine oil and gas smell, this is due to gas leak into oil reservoirs. this is a cause for concern of longevity of the engine and health risk cause from gas smell in the cabin of vehicle. nhtsa to required honda to recall this vehicle to get it fix . my vehicle only have 6100 miles on it.
Oil being diluted with gas. honda issued a "service bulletin" about this. there is a youtube video about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvdknrgzgt8 we took it in and the "fix" was a software update, but the oil continues to get diluted with gas. we will be taking it in for the 3rd time for this problem. in wisconsin, if they fail to fix the problem in 4 tries, it becomes a lemon. i don't want it to come to that because i am sure that will be a big hassle, but the long term problems caused by gas in the oil may be worse. not what i expect from honda!
2018 honda cr-v touring edition with 4,000 miles on it in kansas city, mo. as i was driving down the interstate on the way home from work, an overwhelming smell of gasoline invaded the cabin. as i was only a few miles from home, i kept driving, thinking it may have been from another vehicle. however, the smell remained. when i got home and parked in the garage, i opened the hood, and it was clear my engine was the source of the fumes. had to keep the garage open for fear the fumes could ignite. vehicle is currently at the honda dealership for service. dealer claims they've never experienced this type of issue, and is currently investigating.
Tl* the contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. while inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed that the oil level was above the fill line. the contact also smelled fuel mixed with the oil. the manufacturer referred the contact to tracy honda (3450 auto plaza way, tracy, ca 95304, (209) 832-1400). the dealer was aware of fuel mixing with the oil and did not schedule an appointment. the contact called the manufacturer and they did not assist. the failure mileage was 11,000. the vin was unknown.
Gasoline in the engine oil, the engine oil is overfilled, and smell the gasoline. sent the car to the honda dealer, and they did oil change and told me that honda did not have a solution now.i am wondering if it is still safe to drive the car?
