High oil level due to gas in the oil. have already had 2 oil changes and only have just over 4,000 miles on this vehicle. honda states that this is a known issue in cold weather, but it still happens when driving in the summer.
There is certainly an excess amount of gas mixed in engine oil. only few weeks after oil change, the oil level is already 20 mm above the max line. it's certainly a design flaw and i think honda should be responsible for this mistake and the customers. it's huge safety concern and hope the relevant resources can take action to investigate this issue.
I heard that there is oil level increase problem on this make, model, and year's engine because of fuel leak, so i checked the engine oil level a few hundred miles after changing the oil and found that the oil level is much higher than the maximum mark on the dipstick. i brought the car to dealer previously, complaining of a smell of gas in the oil when i checked it initially, and they said it is fine, that nothing is wrong. both times of checking the oil, the car was in my garage, stationary, on level ground.
Checked oil before honda service over filled on dipstick strong gas oder in oil and cabin
Fuel-oil smell in cabin and outside the car when it is parked in-door after drive. fuel in oil. the oil level exceeds maximum. gasoline smell in the oil. the car does not comply with the manufacturer's technical specification. risks and potential impacts: the odor causes irritation of respiratory system. it can cause health problems. according to honda : "overfilling the engine oil can result in leaks and engine damage." the diluted by gasoline or any other substance oil impacts engine work and the air turbine which is lubricated and cooled by engine oil. i am afraid of the car engine may stop on a road causing a collision.

Sometimes smell of gas in the passenger compartment. oil level has increased and smells like gas
Smell of gas in the oil when i checked it. only 4k miles on it.

My new 2017 honda crv ex that only has 6850 miles driven on it has a terrible defect with oil dilution issues due to fuel leaking into the oil pans causing overflow and dilution to the oil that is supposed to be lubricating the engine. the oil smells very potent of fuel and almost 1 quart of extra fluid was drained from the oil pan when taken into the dealer after reporting the issue. the dealer agreed that there was a major issue with fuel diluting into the oil but were told by the honda corporate tech line that they were to just replace the oil until a fix comes out. the dealer technicians asked about changing the fuel injectors or maybe a cylinder head replacement but were told not to do anything. it is not safe to release these cars back to the owner knowing there is an defect issue that they didn't even really attempt to fix that is causing internal engine parts to break down faster than normal and could cause serious safety concerns due to eventual breakdowns leading to wrecks. the companies "fix" is to go in for an oil change every 500-1000 miles even though excessive fuel is still mixing with the oil. honda has reported that this is happening in colder climates, but i am still having major issues with this in tennessee weather.
I can smell gas in my cabin every once in awhile. the fix for this issue was promised by the end of november, yet we have no information yet. i had reported this issue to my dealer in the past, at the time they told me it was nothing. on my last visit they claimed they had spilled some oil during the oil change and that was the smell. they seem to be stalling while they await a fix. they already have a recall issued in china, why not here? -- gas in oil (https://www.cars.com/articles/fix-coming-for-honda-cr-v-oil-fuel-problem-details-still-unclear-1420703180990/)
Dear: nhtsa i purchase a 2017 honda crv-ex with 1.5-liter turbo earth dream engine. during the past 6 months i've been having the following problems with my honda crv-ex. gas smell in the passenger compartment, the oil smell like gas, rising oil levels, car making horrible noises, stalling, loss of power and the heaters doesn't work at all in cold weather. i first notice these problems 6 months ago. a friend of mine who previously worked at honda says that the problem of fuel mixing with oil stems from one or two causes: improperly designed fuel injectors that spray fuel directly onto the cylinder walls or the engine not heating up enough to vaporize gasoline left over in an engine cylinder. either could cause fuel to mix with the oil, diluting it and making it less effective at protecting an engine's moving parts and over time could seriously damage the engine. my biggest concern is premature engine failure due to the lubrication fuel & oil dilution. honda corporation had knowledge of the turbo engine defects that cause fuel to enter the engine oil, damaging the bearings, engine permanently and did absolutely nothing. i do not believe this is ethical at all for honda corp. to continue to sell 2017 & 2018 crv with turbo engine to the consumer knowing the problems could endanger the public safety. it is neither safe nor prudent driving these vehicles. my trust in honda reliability was crushed when i notice after my 2nd oil change the color was black, thin as water and smell like gasoline after only 10,000 miles. honda corp. had to recall 130,000 of its popular cr-v suv models and 294,500 civic cars from china earlier this year. recently it's been reported honda stopped all sales of crv's in china. honda acknowledges the problem but has not released any resolution aside from free oil changes. my engine has already incurred premature wear. *js
There is a strong smell of gasoline on the dipstick when checking oil levels. oil levels are up to 1 inch above the highest measurable level on the dip stick. i had the oil analyzed and it showed >5% oil dilution. city gas mileage is 21-22 mpg -- way below advertised mpg. see attachments.
The vehicles oil gas a strong gasoline smell and the crankcase appears to be over filled . gasoline has migrated to the engine crankcase. original oil in vehicle at 5845 miles. the odor is under the hood and very strong at oil filler cap and on the oil in the crankcase.
Oil dilution, unburnt fuel is getting buy the piston rings and is getting into the oil sump, which is having a negative effect on the lubricating properties of motor oil.i had my first oil changed at my honda dealer 5,271 miles on odometer on 10/25/2017 after driving 2,554 miles after oil change i noticed after checking oil level on dipstick that it was over full. i again had the oil changed at the same dealer on 03/19/2018 5qts of oil removed ,when the capacity is 3.7 qts with oil plus filter change.i am having the same problem again less than month later with unburnt fuel getting into motor oil and diluting motor oil ,well above the full mark on dipstick 04/18/2018
I bought this 2017 crv exl-nav awd in 05/2017. we did the first maintenance on march 17 to chance oil at 8000 miles. there is oil leakage, i will talk this on another complaint. i heard that there is oil excessive problem on this 1.5t engine, so i checked the engine oil level at about 8800 miles and found that the oil level is more than 10mm higher than the maximum mark on the lipstick. i brought the car to dealer and they said it is fine. i am very upset with their answer. i have attached the photo, the oil level is exceeding the orange plastic to the metal part. actually crv has been stopped for sale in china for 2 months until honda initiate a recall and extend the warranty to 6 years. reliability is the main reason i bought honda, now i am so disappointed. will not consider any honda unless they offer a satisfactory solution.
Oil is being diluted with gasoline.
Gasoline is leaking in to the oil. oil is way above full mark on dip stick and the odor of gasoline is present. first noticed what appeared to be increases in oil on the dip stick about 6 months ago.
I have fuel in my oil and there have been numerous other reports of the same. there is also a class action lawsuit involving the 2017-2018 honda cr-v and civic vehicles that are experiencing fuel contamination of the engine oil that could result the failure of engine bearing and other internal components. this may result in catastrophic engine failure or stalling while driving. japan's honda to recall 350,000 over this engine issue. migliaccio & rathod llp is investigating potential claims of fuel dilution and buildup in the engine oil of 2017-2018 honda cr-v and civic vehicles with the 1.5l turbo engine. under normal circumstances, un-combusted gasoline accumulates in the lubricant oil pan and evaporates under heat from the engine, that then ends up back in the engine combustion chamber as fuel. in cold temperatures, however, the engine may not warm up enough to evaporate the un-combusted gasoline. honda owners are reporting that this leads to gasoline diluting the engine oil which manifests in a strong smell of gasoline inside the cabin, in the short term, and gasoline in the oil that may lead to engine damage in the long term. some drivers have reported that the car's check-engine light has switched on as result. honda has already issued a recall in china for the same 2017-2018 cr-v's and civics, but has yet to issue a recall here in the us.
Gasoline is entering into oil. lost power on interstate could only go 12 mph took off ramp called honda they told us to shut off car and start it back up. was able to drive to dealership.
During the first oil change we removed over 5 quarts of liquid. the owners manual states that the car holds only 3.7 quarts of oil. we contacted the dealership we bought it from and they informed us that this is a known issue for the 2017 honda cr-v. gas is getting into the oil. i am now getting free oil changes, they stated i should come in for an oil change whenever the liquid rises above the fill line on the dipstick. i have managed to get an oil change every 7010 days since april 12, 2018. the last oil change i had there was at least 1 quart of gas in the oil drained out of the reservoir. that was 10 days after the last oil change. i have contacted honda numerous times and the one time i actually talked to my case manager she told me that it was normal operation and honda is not considering this an issue. everything i have read so far states that excess gas in the oil is an issue and very bad for the engine. i am concerned that most consumers who purchased a 2017 honda cr-v are not aware of this issue.
Fuel in oil. strong smell of gasoline, watery oil, increasing levels of oil after oil change.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 honda cr-v. the contact stated that oil was mixing with the fuel. the dealer (vandergriff honda, 1104 w interstate 20, arlington, tx 76017, (817) 533-4266) noticed the failure and performed an oil change at no charge. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer for another oil change 2,000 miles later. the contact had an oil sample sent off for diagnostic testing. the results showed over 5.3% of fuel in the oil and the contact was informed that any amount over 2% was indication of another failure. the manufacturer was contacted and advised that the vehicle be taken back to the dealer. the dealer stated that there was an unknown recall, but the contact's vehicle was not included. the dealer stated that the vehicle was designed in this manner. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 3,000.
An alarming amount of gasoline is leaking into the engine oil. also the car produces little heat when the heater is on.
2017 honda crv with 1.5 l turbo 4 cylinder engine. health hazard: noted gasoline fumes in cabin after starting the car. the fumes are coming in through the ventilation system. happening in both cold and hot weather. car has 30k miles on it. fumes noticed when car is stationary after starting it. also found to have gas entering oil pan, diluting the oil, and causing high oil levels. similar reports from many other owners of this vehicle with this engine and apparently a major recall in china for the problem. am concerned about hydrocarbon levels in the passenger cabin which can be a major health hazard. just because the fumes dissipate after a minute or so does not necessarily mean that the hydrocarbon levels in the cabin are normal for the rest of the ride. other major concern is premature wear on the engine due to gas mixing with oil. another concern is reports of crvs with this problem stalling at high speeds and failing to accelerate properly. honda usa has not addressed the problem as of this date nor have they offered any solutions. i feel like i wasted over $30k on a vehicle that is now unsafe and destined to premature engine failure. i think there needs to be a recall to fix this problem.
The new generation of crv vehicles have a significant problem regarding oil dilution with fuel and other liquids. this is a serious problem and can result in premature engine failure as well as other problems. we shouldn't have to change our oil every 500 miles just to make sure it isn't too high. honda is aware of this problem, yet they are slacking on finding a fix. this problem may potentially be affecting hundreds of thousands of vehicles. china already halted sales of crvs until they fix this problem. dear honda, fix this problem! the longer you slack, the more customers (like me) you will lose in the future. if you value your reputation as a reliable car maker, then do your due diligence and get this problem fixed.
The 1.5 l turbo engine develops high oil level readings due to fuel contamination. i had several (12) system failure notices appear simultaneously. i took the car to the dealer and they stated that they "found that oil level was over full and smelled like fuel". also noticed that in cold weather, while driving, the front defroster is not warm enough and can't keep windshield clear resulting in poor or no visibility. this vehicle takes a very long time to warm up. does not warm up at idle. takes a very long time to warm up while in motion. the only way i've found to get the engine up to a proper temperature is to turn off econ mode, drive in sport mode and do not turn heater on.
My 2017 honda cr-v it's a new broche with only 3,800 miles and i'm very concerned about the oil level raising drastically, so bad that i had to do an oil chance at only 3,000 miles when the first service was supposed to be done at 5,000 miles. it's been 800 miles since the oil change and the oil level is well above the second mark on the dipstick with a strong gasoline odor, yes, for the little experience i have with vehicles i'm more than sure this engine is mixing up gasoline with the oil, reason why the oil level goes up and looks thinner than normal almost like water. my concern is that if the oil delude drastically the engine eventually will fail for lack of lubrication, and the whole powertrain will be damage! honda needs to find a solution to this issues asap or risk many cars needing a new engine soon! many people it's having this issues with oil dilution and heat not working properly plus an strong gas smell in the cabin and oil compartment!! i drive my car approximately 20 miles a day mixed driving, highway and city!!
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 honda cr-v. the contact stated that there was a strong odor of fuel inside the vehicle three times and a knocking noise was heard coming from the engine. the engine oil was checked and there was evidence of fuel on the engine oil dipstick. the vehicle was taken to honda world (located at 1 autocenter dr, louisville, ky 40299, (502) 398-6398) and the engine oil was replaced. the contact was informed by the service manager that the manufacturer was aware of the engine oil and fuel dilution in similar vehicles. the manufacturer was contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 4,452. *bf *jb
2017 honda cr-v engine oil level rising, within 2000 miles of driving, past top of orange plastic dipstick which would indicate an oil level more than 1/2 quart high after being filled correctly by dealer to the 3.7 quart high level mark. this oil dilution (most likely with gasoline as the oil is not turning white as when water enters the oil) reduces the viscosity of the 0-20w oil which could lead to engine bearing surfaces seizing at some inopportune time. orange plastic dipstick is difficult to read and oil level should be only read after the engine is stopped for three minutes per the manual...guess we need a stopwatch. cold engine oil levels are even higher. owners manual p559 specifically states that the oil should not be overfilled. overfilling can cause aeration of the oil, causing oil pumping problems, or reducing lubrication of bearing surfaces. have to call honda customer service, start case#, and plead for free extra oil changes when high level is obvious after several readings.
I checked the level of the oil on the dipstick and the level shows as being high, past the 'full" reference point with a few millimeters. also, the oil has a strong gas odor. the mileage on the engine is 8454, and the first oil change was performed at 6547 miles, 2 months ago.
My car is a 2017 honda crv touring with the 1.5 liter turbocharged engine and 3200 miles. on 3/18/2018 i was driving at 70mph on interstate 180 in pennsylvania when the car suddenly slowed, lost power, the check engine light came on, and multiple electrical systems reported malfunctions in the dash display. the car was towed to the honda dealer and diagnosed with excess gas (approximately one quart) in the oil. the oil and filter was changed as a temporary solution, and a tech line case (ref # 4089104) was opened with honda. i was told at this time there is no permanent recall or fix. i was advised that this is a known problem in cold climates where the car is used for short drives and does not warm up completely. since then i have learned that all crvs with the 1.5 liter turbocharged engine have been recalled in china for the same problem.
Gas is leaking into crankcase and diluting the engine oil therefore raising the oil level above the max fill line. engine oil has gas odor and oil seems thinner due to dilution with gasoline.
Bought this 2017 crv exl-nav awd in 05/2017. we did the first maintenance on march 17 to chance oil in the dealership and they found there is oil leakage. they scheduled a another day to fix it by adding some silica glue under warranty. i can not believe a new car within 1 year and 8000 miles has oil leaking issue. reliability is the main reason i bought honda, now i am so disappointed.
Vehicle purchased new in 8/17 and has 8900 miles. touring trim with 1.5l turbo engine and awd. oil level has increased well above full mark after both of two oil changes done since purchased and smells strongly of fuel. last oil change was done just 375 miles back. dealer denies there is a problem with the vehicle, even though there are numerous reports and nhtsa complaints on record. i am concerned about possible engine failure due to inadequate lubrication / possible collision due to engine failure while driving. will continue to followup with dealer service department and document actions taken in order to support any future legal action to remedy this serious defect.
The oil level in the crank case continually rises and smells strongly of gasoline. within 5000 miles, and 40% oil life according to the maintenance minder, it had risen well above the max line on the dip stick.
Driving highway speed. suddenly vehicle begins to violently hesitate and then slows and will not accelerate (more than 10 mph). indicators read that all systems have failed. pulled over and shut vehicle down. would not restart. called emergency roadside assistance for towing to dealership. was told by dealer that honda stated it is a common issue in cold weather (i live and purchased the vehicle in northern wi - lame excuse. whey sell them here if they don't work in the cold). the dealership replaced the fuel injectors and various other engine parts. i also had to have the satellite radio receiver replaced (it burnt out). there was fuel in the engine oil. all this with less than 4,000 miles on the 2017 honda cr-v. no longer have confidence in the vehicle. it runs now, but the engine is much louder with a noticable clicking noise that wasn't there when i first purchased the vehicle. i was planning a maiden voyage from wi to seattle, wa (to visit elderly mother who lives there) but lost confidence in the vehicle's reliability. what is my fix for this? dealership balked at the suggestion of replacing the vehicle with another one. overall, i think this is a dangerous issue to have an automobile completely fail in traffic. limping off the roadway at a maximum possible speed of 10 mph in highway traffic conditions is a recipe for disaster and the makings for possible fatal consequences. honda should be looking seriously into this issue and not making lame excuses like this happens to the cr-v in cold weather ([xxx]). they should also be providing compensation to owners who purchased these lemons in good faith expecting the dependability of a brand new vehicle, paying (in my case) at least $29,000.00 for that expectation and not ending up with something that dumps fuel into the engine oil and threatens the safety of me and my (3) passengers at the time parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 5
My car developed the gas-in-oil problem that has been reported on. took to dealer, who opened a ticket with honda. problem continues, no fix offered yet. third party used oil analysis confirms the problem.
We purchased our honda crv ex-l in october of 2017, within 5 months we noticed a strong gasoline small in our cabin. one day i checked the oil level by pulling the dipstick and noticed that the oil level was 1 full inch above the full mark. i also noticed that the oil on the dipstick reeked of gas and was very dark and watery. i immediately did a google search of this issue, knowing that our last oil change was less than 3,000 miles ago from our local honda dealer and i was shocked with the results. thousands of owners with the 2017-2018 crv with the 1.5 liter turbo engine are having this exact same issue. the issue is called oil dilution and a large amount of gas is getting into the oil but the reasons are unknown. i immediately called my local dealer and had my car in the next day. they claimed they have never seen anything like this before as my oil had so much gasoline in it that it poured out like water. they scheduled a call with honda engineers the following monday and they were advised to change the oil and drive the car again. they did so and the gas volume filled up very quickly in the new oil so the next step was to replace the fuel injectors. based on my research online many other owners have had the same procedure performed which didn't fix the issue. however the injectors were replaced on my car and the vehicle was given back to me, claimed to have been fully fixed. needless to say less than 2 weeks after i got my vehicle back i checked the oil level and once again it's well above the full mark with a strong smell of gasoline. i've called honda corporate and their customer service just plain sucks. lack of empathy, lack of acknowledgement of this being a widespread issue and no resolution of concerns. i'm currently fighting with them, pleading to get a extension on the powertrain warranty as there is no doubt that engine damage has already occurred.
I purchased a 2017 honda crv-ex with the 1.5 turbo engine in november 2017 and plan to give this car to my niece as a graduation present in 2019. i took it for its first oil change, at 137 miles, and the dealer told me that there was gasoline in the oil. after the oil change, i researched the issue and discovered that many people (2017 honda crv owners with the 1.5 turbo engine) in the usa had this problem. the details are listed in the honda forums and on edmunds. i also saw that honda was recalling 350k 2017-2018 crvs with the 1.5 turbo engine , in china, as the software needed to be updated. it appears that the fuel ejectors were supplying too much gasoline and the residual gasoline was leaking around the cylinders into the oil. i requested honda-usa to get access to this software update via my local dealer (boch honda west in westford, ma). it is my understanding that the software update is available. honda-usa sent me a response indicating that there was no recall on my vehicle and i should go back to the dealer. i have called the dealer, again, but they cannot do much without the software update. i told honda-usa that this problem is very concerning for the future of the engine reminded them that their dealer found the problem of gasoline in the engine and that both i and the dealer were concerned. my case number with honda is 07116734. some of the web sites (links) that further define the problem ate as follow: 1) https://www.reuters.com/article/us-honda-china-recall/honda-stops-selling-new-cr-vs-in-china-after-recall-plan-rejected-iduskcn1ge1p8 2) http://www.crvownersclub.com/forums/14-problems-issues/170193-potential-major-issue-2017-cr-v-gasoline-gets-into-engine-oil-tank.html 3) https://forums.edmunds.com/discussion/50438/honda/cr-v/new-cr-v-cold-weather-runs-rich-gas-in-oil-multiple-complaints
I was backing into my driveway, i stopped the vehicle, my foot on the brake, then shifted to drive and suddenly without warning, the vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed moving forward despite my heavy pressure on the brakes i could not stop the vehicle and i wound up crashing into my car into my neighbors house, with extensive damage to the house and my car. i sustained minor injuries
Gas smell in cabin. engine oil level has risen and smells like gas. smell has happened several times.
On march 1st 2018 the engine stalled twice *(with engine light coming on) in a heavily congested part of our city. . strong smell of fuel inside and outside the passenger cabin. was driving to visit friends for lunch on opposite end (south) where i work. the first stall occurred on a service road leading to restaurant. the 2nd stall occurred driving back from restaurant to work..
2017 honda crv. consumer writes in regards to concerns with the engine not warming up. *ld the consumer stated the engine blows cold air at stop signs, which makes it difficult to unfog the windows. the manufacturer was notified and stated the vehicle was operating as designed, the consumer simply lived in a cold area. the manufacturer stated a design change would be created for future models. *js
I purchased a 2017 crv from ashland honda and toyota in ashland, wi in august 2017. on february 23, 2018, my car which has 5500 miles on it, started making a horrible noise and began losing power while on the highway. the noise continued throughout the weekend. we made an appointment with ashland honda and toyota to service the call. honda corporate and the service manager (jerry) at ashland honda and toyota determined through video chats and conference calls that the cams were destroyed in my engine. they believe this had to do with fuel and oil mixing and getting into the engine. honda requested that ashland honda replace the head of the engine. they have no fix for the problem with the fuel and oil mixing and destroying the engine. the service manager said because the government is involved due to emissions, this issue will be continuing, and at this time there is no fix. he also stated that corporate informed him this was a regional issue due to our climate, and they are currently trying to figure out a software fix for the problem. no resolution at this point. corporate further stated that they are seeing this issue when the temperature is between 10 and 30 degrees. i was offered a 100,000 extended warranty and recommended that i go to the dealer every 500 miles to get an oil change to see if fuel is mixing with the oil. shocked at the lack of resolution, i asked the service manager if honda corporate was comfortable giving me my car back after the cams were replaced with no resolution, and he said yes. i do not believe this is ethical at all for honda to not have a fix to an engine problem that could endanger myself and/or my family. the car engine is being replaced when parts are delivered. again, no resolution to the problem with the oil and gas combining and fixing issue.
Engine oil is overfilling and being diluted with gas. strong gas smell. when changing oil, more than what was needed to fill engine oil to full
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 honda cr-v. the contact stated that the high oil levels on the dipstick caused the vehicle to occasionally stall and created a fuel odor in the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to (mcgrath city honda, 6720 w grand ave, chicago, il 60707) where they changed the oil. two weeks later, the oil level was high again. the manufacturer was notified. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 3,500.
Oil/dilution on dip stick. gas smell on dip stick. overfilled dip stick.
The 1.5 turbo engine's all experience a coolant heating up under 32degrees f problem. at idle the temperature cools down and heater does not supply warm air. also the engine oil is being diluted by an overly rich mixture causing unburned gas to enter the crankcase diluting the engine oil and causing engine damage. dealer has no clue when i took it in to why so i have to change oil eve3ry 1000 miles to protect the engine
On several separate occasions the car has lost power and stalled while i was driving.
