The engine oil level on the dipstick was very high during a recent random oil check. there was a gasoline odor on the dipstick. i have informed the local dealer who sold the car (howdy honda in austin, texas), and had them perform an oil change. the dealer recommended to keep an eye on it. also, i notified honda usa by email. they sent an automated reply with a case number, but made no other attempt at contact.
Oil level is overfilled and smells of gas when checked on a level surface ,my concern is major engine problems etc. i became aware of the problem from an article i read in consumers report
Crankcase oil dipstick reading way over full 3000 miles after oil change. oil with heavy gas smell.apparently gas seeping into crankcase.
Oil dilution problem in the 1.5 turbo engine. i have checked oil and it is above top level line and smells of gasoline. when i took it to dealer they told me there was a recall but it didn't apply to cars bought and used in california
Fuel is leaking down into the oil pan raising the oil levels on the dip stick as mileage increases, which will result in premature potential engine failure. this is also going to hurt the resale value of the vehicle. for example, 2k miles after last oil change, oil levels have increased to a quarter inch above recommended "full level" displayed on the dipstick.
Went to local honda dealer for regular oil change maintenance. after completing, noticed car seemed to be stalling and slow/non response in accelerating. by the time i got home about 7 miles away, all warning lights came up and car would not accelerate and go more than 5 mp/h. very fortunately this happen near my home where traffic is light. would have been very dangerous if it had occurred on highway
Engine oil has a flashpoint of 215 degrees and 8.5% fuel to oil ratio as measured by an independent laboratory, blackstone laboratories. two tests have been performed and show dangerously low flashpoint levels and out of spec viscosity. the flashpoint is within the operating range of the engine. i am afraid of what could happen. dealership will not fix the problem and they can only change the oil at the prescribed time indicated by the car. flash point is extremely serious.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 honda cr-v. while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle stalled and the brake, power pressure, cruise control, and lane assist warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was turned off, restarted, and taken to vann york auto mall (422 eastchester dr, high point, nc 27262, 336-841-6200) for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred to contact to the dealer. the vehicle was not repaired. the diagnosis information was not available. the failure mileage was 24,100. the vin was not provided.
My 2017 crv has been smelling of gasoline. when i checked the oil dipstick, the oil level was above the full mark. i contacted my dealership and explained this issue. shortly afterward, i received a recall/"update" notice in the mail for this problem. i took my car into the dealership and the repairs were made (software update, replaced ac unit, oil change). one month has passed, and again, the oil levels are high and the cabin smells of gasoline. the oil level on the dipstick is, again, over the full mark. i contacted both the dealership and american honda motors regarding this issue. i have been given a case number and am waiting to hear back from america honda motors. i am taking pictures of the oil levels on the dipstick, documenting all contacts made with both the honda dealership and america honda motors, and retaining all paperwork regarding repairs to my car concerning this issue.
Received a notice from honda about a recall to update software and change a/c module to prevent mil from coming on. went to dealer and had service completed and was told they had to change the engine oil per honda due to possible contamination from the service action. but i would have to pay for the filter. twelve dollars is not a huge amount, but there is no way the oil would be contaminated by this service action. now there is a well known issue with honda crvs concerning oil dilution. this service bulletin does not in any manner allude to this problem, but does seem to be aimed directly at it. the dealer service managers express no knowledge of any oil issues. i have tried to contact honda regarding this and no reply. as a side note honda is offering canadian owners a free extended warranty due to this issue, and to us buyers won't even acknowledge the problem.
Oil level is going up. when you check the dip stick, it smells like gas amd it's over the maximum level. for the has pedal, when you press it it's squeaking.
Gasoline smell. oil level increasing on dip stick without adding oil, stationary
Notice very toxic gasoline smell in vehicle cabin when driving car during colder weather. also, notice gasoline smell in garage after car is parked. have been monitoring the oil level for the past two months. the oil level was 1" above the high level mark in december 2018 and took car to honda dealer . they replaced the oil and made a software update per a honda bulletin. they notified me in writing that the problem is under review and honda techline and engineers are aware of issue but no service bulletins, updates or repairs are available as of this time( dec. 14,2018) it is now jan 28, 2019 and the toxic gas smell is much more severe. usa honda was contacted today and case registered for my vehicle. honda usa told me to again contact the honda dealer regarding the problem. the dealer has been contacted and i'm waiting to hear back to resolve this problem. honda and nhtsa may not consider this a safety issue with this vehicle but it certainly could become a health issue which is why i am notifying nhtsa.
Very strong odor of gasoline on oil dipstick when checking level of oil. oil is overfilled according to dipstick where it is well above the fill marking even thought dealer filled oil to specification previously. obviously gasoline is diluting oil. very concerned this is a safety issue in the long term. dealer denies there is an issue and is unwilling to repair notwithstanding the car has a tsb in several us states and all of canada.
The heat in the car dose not work when it is cold out. auto start does nothing to warm the vehicle. the vehicle needs to be driving continuously to have the temperature gauge move. once the gauge is 1/2 way up and i turn on the heat, the gauge drops all the way down. no warm air comes out, also effecting the defroster. if i have ice or fog on my windows the defroster can't keep up severely impairing my vision, not to mention that all passengers in the car are freezing the entire time. this morning the temperature was 9 degrees fahrenheit with a real feel of -10 and during my 30 minute drive to work via a highway, all 4 door windows were fogged over and ice was forming on them and the rear and front windshield have fog and ice on about 50% of them. if not for the seat warmer and the blanket i wrapped myself in for my cummute i would have been frozen. this isn't the first time winter has happened nor the first car that honda has created. no reason for the heat not to work.
January 20 2019 car was completely dead. took to dealership january 21. they replaced the battery, a/c unit, did a program update, changed the oil and drain plug. told us it was fixed. however, the car immediately gave me problems --more than before. i was actually trapped in my car and couldn't open the doors 3 times. while driving the car, the safety system continuously alerts blindspot activity, the message "some driver assist systems cannot operate" , theres a message that says "collision mitigation system disabled" that appears, the hazard lights go on intermittently at will. today, we took the car in for a tire problem and mentioned all these other message faults, the dealer checked the oil and it was too high (the "fix" was done just 10 days ago) and the dealer told us, "yes, but there's nothing more we can do, call honda." so, i have a $37,000 piece of junk i can't trust to take across town. ps we were coerced into purchasing the extended warranty -- what good is a warranty if the dealer admits he can't fix the problem?
On multiple occasions, while getting an oil change on my 2017 honda crv, the maintenance tech told me that my oil smelled very much like gasoline. gasoline must be leaking into oil somewhere in engine. this can be a safety and maintenance issue.
As i was driving back home from showcase honda after having shift level knob, ac hepa filter and cabin hepa filter replaced. i was driving on a city street, when my cabin got full of a very cloudy, followed with a bad smell that made me rolled down the windows and pulled immediately to the nearest street because i was so scare not been able to see anything.
I use the vehicle for short trips. notices gas mileage drastically reduced to 20 mpg. this startted hapening since de 2018. possibly due to very cold weahter. most of cases car is used to drop my kid to a school that is around 2 to 3 miles. milease shows as 20 miles per gallon. touch screen dashboard sometimes goes blank and non responsive.
One day as i was driving, all problem lights on my dashboard began to turn on, chime, and and giving messages such as "tire pressure monitoring poblem", brake system, break hold system , power steering, etc..." and my features such as cruise control and break hold became disabled. we had the spark plugs changed and the problem continued. we did an oil change and discovered that there was over 5 quarts of oil collected when only 3.5 had been pured in, also the oil was smelling like gasoline. we started researching and it seems that this is a problem with this car/model. mechanic diagnosed lower compression on cylinder #4 and kept getting a cylinder #4 error.
Vehicle oil continues to be at elevated levels, oil smells strongly of gasoline and a gasoline smell continues to be present in the cabin of the vehicle. this is still occurring even after the software update with a/c control unit replacement was done in november 2018.
Gasoline contaminating my oil. honda dealer documented gas smell in oil prior to oil change on my receipt.
Honda recall sb 18-114 2017cr-v is completely unacceptable.. before the fix my cr-v heated up ,& had heat with 2miles.. now the temperature gauge does not move for 10 minutes.. & there is no heat.. the cr-v was fine before this fix.. i returned to the dealer to have them re-check this recall.. they say that this is normal now.. the recall was intended to make the cr-v heat up quicker , not slower.. i'm just letting your know this, and i will also let nhtsa know. as this may now be a safety hazzard. as there may not be enough heat to defrost the windows. per the crvoc.com : what you can do ' go on record and report the problem to the dealership, to corporate honda, and to nhtsa.gov
The vehicle has a known issue by honda with unsafe levels of oil dilution in the 1.5 cvt turbo engine. gas is mixing in with the oil, causing oil levels to rise. the fumes of gasoline are entering into the cabin space and making it unsafe to breathe. the engine is also having stalling issues due to gas mixing in with the oil in the engine area. this also has an issue with the ability to keep the car warm and providing adequate heat into the cabin area. the components of this engine are unsafe for cold weather climates such as the northeast. the car can not warm up the engine sufficiently at idle and therefore will not blow any hot air into the cabin area. the manufacturer states the car needs to be operating at highway speeds for approximately 10 minutes to gain sufficient engine warmth. this is not acceptable, as many owners of this vehicle have families and children, and we make short trips back and forth. for the car to be cold and blow cold air and not be able to warm up is a failure by the manufacturer to provide a safe vehicle. honda case number 06673515
Check oil deep stick . it went over max by 1 inch and it smell gasoline. went to honda dealer to fix. they did software update and ac cpu replace and oil changed. still did not fix the problem. sometimes my wife and son smell gas i don't know where it comes from . really don't know what to do now....
Car occasionally smells like fuel on the inside. this happens at times days after the last time the gas tank was filled. appears to be a leak somewhere. can sometimes occur while car is in motion on highway or idling at standstill.
Gas is mixing in the oil of our new 2017 honda cr-v. the 1.5 liter engine does not warm up sufficiently in cold weather, runs rich, and leaves un-combusted gas in the oil. began losing power.
I own a 2017 honda cr-v 1.5 turbo fwd and my vehicle is suffering from the affects of 'oil dilution.' i regularly have my oil changed by honda, but i noticed, upon returning from a long trip in northern inidiana over winter, a strong odor of gasoline when checking my oil-dipstick and the volume was much higher than expected. when i brought my vehicle to honda, i was advised that honda was aware of a problem for all 2017-2018 cr-v 1.5 turbos with residual gas dripping into the cylinders and eventually the oil crank-case, called 'oil dilution'. i asked the honda technician to check for gasoline in my oil, but they said no such test was available. he advised me that no fix currently exists, aside from more frequent oil changes. i then followed up with the lead technician at my dealer to resolve the safety concern, but i was verbally told that honda does not intend to address the issue unless litigation is mandated. i believe this problem posses a major safety concern as these vehicles age and the risk of engine seizure or explosion increase. honda north america's position is that since there are so few 2017 cr-vs with turbo on the road, they do not see a reason to act. there is a fundamental problem with this honda turbo fuel injection system, which was fixed for the 2019 models. a software patch is being issued by honda canada, but this is not offered in southern states and honda refuses to comment on the long term impact and degraded performance. i am deeply concerned for the safety of my family and fellow drivers.
Something is causing the oil level to increase above the full mark on the oil dipstick.
While driving vehicle in the city, check engine light flashes on and off. vehicle loses power and will not accelerate, creating serious safety issue. dealer confirmed engine oil dipstick had unusally strong smell of gasoline. vehcile has been serviced once by honda dealer. i was assured that all necessary fixes were made. same issue happened again. returned vehicle to honda dealer for additional service.
Dilution of engine oil, which has been infiltrated by gasoline. low power in driving. strong smell of gasoline in the cabin. vehicle was in motion at first detection of gasoline smell.
Engine oil dipstick shows oil level above full and smells of gas. honda dealer claims no knowledge of a problem although it is well known in internet auto blogs. i had my oil tested at blackstone laboratories and the report states it contains 3.3% of fuel and 'a fair amount of metal present', and a flashpoint of 305 degrees when it should be above 370. this is a new car with only 3534 miles on it. oil diluted with gas could cause my engine to freeze up while driving due to lack of proper lubrication. this is a serious problem in a turbo engine and will end its life prematurely and possibly cause an accident
The oil dipstick is showing the oil level to be substantially higher than the max oil level. i took it to the honda dealer 1/2/19. they showed me a service bulletin indicating that gas could be mixing with the oil, but honda considered that a normal operating condition for that model. they offered no solution to the problem, but did change the oil at my request. i consider gas mixing with the crankcase oil a serious problem. action should be taken to remedy this problem.
I check engine oil yesterday and found level very high on dipstick and smelling strongly of gasoline. i called the honda dealer checkered flag where i purchased the vehicle and took it directly there.it had only been 180 miles driven since last oil change at dealer. they offered to change oil again and then told me to keep checking oil level and return to dealer in 1000 miles. i was told the oil level was half quart over filled and was because gas was not being burned during combustion because engine was not hot enough. they said it was normal and not to worry. i don't think the oil will protect my engine when it is so diluted with gasoline.i filed a complaint and got a case number [xxx] from honda america, but want the problem to be fixed before there is long term damage to my engine. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
The car is stalling from taking off from a stop. it's has been determined there is fuel getting into the oil pan causing the engine to stall at times, making merging into traffic unsafe.
Last oil change found oil level 1/2 quart high with a strong gas smell. oil sample was not as viscous as oil should be. contacted dealer but no response yet.
Very strong continuous smell of gasoline inside the car coming from the front engine area of the car when starting it and the smell circulates in the car while driving it. also smell gas from the car for a long while, after parking it in my enclosed garage. this is a serious health, safety and evironmental issue. the smell makes me nauseous. just bought this 2017 honda crv three months ago, took this vehicle back to dealer, he said thehonda factory doesn't have any fixes for this issue. untrue per data found online which states this issue has been taken care of per a recall of these vehicles in canada and for some states but not yet in all usa states, including my state. i hope this vehicle is recalled and the issue fixed very soon for our health and safety.
Checked my oil level it was above the max level. the oil indicator says we have 10% oil life. and the oil smells like gasoline. went to the dealer they said it's not a problem. they gave us a speech that it's normal to have gas that leaks to the oil and it will evaporate. our other cars doesn't. it hasn't affected the car yet but just concern that something will happen while i'm driving.
Dilution of engine oil, which has been infiltrated by gasoline. low power in driving. strong smell of gasoline in the cabin. vehicle was in motion at first detection of gasoline smell.
Upon seeing all of the complaints about the 1.5 liter turbo engine in the cr-v's and civics, i inspected the oil in my 2017 honda cr-v only 100 miles after it was changed by the local honda dealer. i pulled out the dipstick and noticed that the oil level was over the recommended limit and it was very dark in color. i leaned into the engine and noticed a strong presence of a gasoline smell. i have also noticed the presence of this smell before inside of the cabin but i thought it could be from something else. i am convinced it's coming from the engine. honda needs to do something about this.
My 2017 honda crv has fuel in the oil, confirmed by dealership. the last time i had it to dealership they confirmed it had 2 quarts of fuel in the crankcase oil . this is a hazard because the engine could overheat and lock up as i drive, which could lead to an accident. this also lowers the value of my car. the dealership can't fix it! i have driven the car approximately 800 miles since last oil change . it is currently a quart high on dipstick and oil smells of fuel.
Oil dilution problem causing misfires while driving and throwing all saftey related features to throw codes and not function, throws codes and misfires while driving.has been to dealer 3 times and not resolved.
stalling, loss of engine power, smell of gas in the passenger compartment, audio display erratic, all while car is in motion; front running lights blinking when foot on brake. problems occur in cold weather.
Had the first oil changed at 5,658 miles in october, 2018. mentioned the fuel in oil issue with 1.5 liter turbo engines (per consumer reports) to service rep at annapolis honda. he claimed to have never heard of it. checked my oil today (12/21/18, 7,600 miles), oil level is elevated approx. 1/2 inch above the fill line from october with strong gasoline smell in the oil. honda claims to have a fix for this but will only roll it out in northern tier states in the us. problem is much more widespread and needs to be implemented nationally. potential for premature engine failure and fire if not fixed
Oil mixing in the engine to the extent that may very well install the engine while driving in the high way. honda corp need to get this issue fixed to prevent it happen
After 6,000 miles & near time for oil change the 1.5t engine has gained a quart of oil [gas in oil] and now a quart over full. smells like gas in oil and sometimes smell gas fumes when parked in garage at home.
Oil level increased and diluted. i smell gas on oil dip stick.
My car has a strong smell of gas on the dip stick and it is over the full mark. i have already taken my cr-v to the dealership i purchased my car at. they recognize the gas smell and over full mark. the service department changed the oil december 12th. 2018 today is december 24th 2018. i checked the oil when the car was cold and on a flat surface and the dip stick shows overfill and has a strong smell of gas.
After noticing a strong smell of gasoline in the cabin, i checked the oil level and found the dipstick indicated the oil level was about 1/2-1 quart too high. since i had the oil change by a dealer about 2500 mile back and i had checked the oil level after the oil change, i found this oil level reading puzzling. then i smelled the dipstick and notice a strong gasoline odor from the oil. i am now worried about the hazard of gasoline vapor exposure and the wear effects of diluted engine oil. there also may be an increased engine fire hazard.
Gas dripping into oil pan causing oil dilution and overfilling of oil tank. took my honda crv to west county honda, ellisville. they changed the oil, but did not fix the problem
