There was a loud banging sound and the air conditioner, which was on and working great, stopped blowing cold air. i researched the problem and found that this has been very common on honda cr-vs. from my experience and the four different failure modes that have been identified, it sounds like the ac compressor exploded or imploded and could have left shards of metal on the highway i was driving on. two other failure modes of this problem include the clutch axle shaft shearing and the clutch itself melting. here are the ridiculously high number of complaints that i've found within 15 minutes of researching: 1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fldx1wvjqsc 2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4ajblxnh2e 3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asy6stixtq4&feature=youtu.be 4. http://www.ebay.com/gds/the-honda-crv-s-problematic-ac-compressor-black-death-/10000000018634628/g.html 5. http://repairpal.com/air-conditioning-is-blowing-warm-air-497 6. http://forums.edmunds.com/discussion/5273/honda/cr-v/honda-cr-v-ac-compressor-problems/p71 7. http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/honda-cr-v/tu0okfjgv9v3f3fgl/p64, *tr

The a/c compressor unit has failed and honda kept the recall quiet now my vehicle has gone just outside the warranty coverage repair window this unit has a design flaw and honda should have given a no limit on the repair like they did with the window actuator i forgot to mention that recall only happened due to a class action lawsuit. *tr

I was in a parking lot and wanted to move to another one. i put car in gear and as i started out i heard the engine rev very loud and car lurched forward. i applied brakes and placed the car in park. engine was still revving high. i turned off engine and then back on again. car seemed to behave normally and i drove home (about 1 mile). i called a honda dealer service number and explained what happened. they were supposed to call back but did not. the next day i called the service at another dealer (dch honda of paramus). i spoke to an [xxx] who told me there were no recalls for unintended acceleration for any 2008 crv's. i wrote an e-mail to her to document the phone conversation then called another information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Approximately 2 months ago, periodically, while driving (30-45mph) we would hear an unusual whirling noise in the motor; not harsh but more a purring sound. the next time we drove the car we would not hear it. it continued but spasmodically. then in november we began having trouble starting the engine. we had a new battery installed but again, periodically, both the whirling noise and no engine turnover. yesterday, after making a quick stop before going to work, we had to call a tow truck co. who also checked the battery (now less than a month old and charging perfectly). we are not certain of the relationship between the noise and the failure to start. *tr

The air conditioning goes out intermittently when the outside temperature is above ~85f. this happened more and more frequently until the system stopped putting out cold air altogether. this is a known problem with cr-vs, and honda extended the warranty on the a/c compressor clutch to 100,000 miles. a mechanic diagnosed this as my problem, although it happened 4,000 miles over the extended limit for warranty service. *tr

The air compressor had to be replaced at a cost of over $700. theres was not even 100,000 miles on the car yet when this had to be done. *tr

A/c stopped working. took into mechanic as i thought the it needed recharged. instead, the a/c and clutch had to be replaced for $1300. had to take back to the mechanic as it still wasn't working a 2nd day. they recharged again. it stopped working the 3rd day, and the compressor relay was replaced. this car is only 5 years old. *tr

After several days of intermittent air-conditioning (cooling) function, the ac compressor failed. dealer mechanic reports the compressor coil failed (melted?). conditions at the time were high ambient temperatures (ca. 90-100 degrees f). i'm filing this report to corroborate numerous online accounts of similar failures in newer model honda cr-vs with 50,000-60,000 miles of use. *tr

A/c suddenly stopped working - blowing hot air on 100-degree day dealer found that compressor had failed, and will replace it. *tr

Honda crv 2008 32,000 miles no history of accident or damage. while turning onto the highway engine failed and stopped vehicle. vehicle towed to dealership. major engine damage due to broken motor mount bolt. dealership claims it was due to abuse of vehicle. there is no history of accident or damage done to the vehicle. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda cr-v. the contact stated that while driving at relatively low speeds, there was a loud, unusual noise underneath the hood. the contact depressed the accelerator pedal, heard an unusual metal to metal sound and the rpms increased between 1500 and 2500. the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. in addition, the contact stated that while driving 70-75 mph, the contact noticed an unusual burning smell and the vehicle began to shake. the failure mileage was approximately 24,084. the current mileage was approximately 24,400.

2008 honda crv. consumer states while in reverse, there is a grinding noise coming from the right front wheel. *gr the dealer determined that an engine mount stud was broken, a side mount was distorted and the a/c compressor pulley was touching the engine beam which resulted in sparks and/or an electrical problem. the a/c matter appeared to be associated with the engine having shifted some from the broken stud and distorted side mount. *jb

2008 honda cr-v engine sometimes races when braking to stop. putting the car in neutral allows the engine to rev-up then return to normal revs. this happens with the foot on the brake. honda deal did not find any problems with the car. this happens once a week starting when car was new. *tr

2008 honda crv-compressor needs replacing 65,000 miles at the time the compressor went out. honda warranty only covers 36,000 miles. did not by extended warranty. has not replaced part due to cost. honda purchased at paris honda has talked to them however, 1200 dollars for a rebuilt compressor to be installed and much higher for a new one. this is robbery and poorly built compressors. is it alright from them to charge so much money for a vehicle with sorry service and parts?? if they are having so many compressor problems why not recall them all and fix the problem. i will never by another honda and when asked i advice any one to stay away from the auto brand. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda cr-v. while driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled and shut off without warning. the contact pulled onto the shoulder and the vehicle restarted a few seconds later. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but they did not assist or even perform a diagnostic. the failure mileage was 3,800 and current mileage was 4,800.

2008 honda crv 4wd; started revving very high after starting the car and it was in park; my foot was on the brake. when i moved car out of park and to neutral; the high revving stopped. i'm afraid this may happen when coasting. *tr

This is the second time since purchasing the vehicle april 2008 that i've started the vehicle and the engine revved at a high idle speed like i was flooring the accelerator except my foot was on the brake. i'm concerned that this may happen when i'm coasting without my foot on any pedals and the car may accelerate on it's own. the first time this occurred, i had my foot on the brake and put the car in neutral and the high revving stopped. i took it to a honda dealer and they said sometimes the accelerator valve sticks and they sprayed lubricant on it. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda cr-v. while making a right turn at 25 mph, the vehicle lunged forward and then dramatically accelerated. the contact lost control of the vehicle and crashed into someone's place of residence. there were no warning lights illuminated prior to the failure. the vehicle was completely destroyed and all of the air bags deployed. the contact sustained minor injuries and the house was moderately damaged. the vehicle has not been inspected to determine the cause of the failure. a police report was filed. the contact has pictures of the vehicle after the failure. the failure and current mileages were 4,000.

After driving my new honda cr-v for 4 weeks, 3 to 4 times a week i began to feel sick. i experienced severe headaches, nausea, burning sensation in my sinuses and throat, over-all weakness. this continued for 5 weeks until i was so sick that i stayed home in bed for 3 days in mid march. then when i drove the car again after returning to work i again got very sick and it was at that point that i suspected that the car was somehow the cause. i saw my gp doctor, explained my symptoms and he confirmed that the chemical emissions coming from the new materials and adhesives in the interior of the car could be the cause. as long as i do not drive the car more than once a week and do so with all of the windows open i do not get sick. i have read reports that indicate that it will take 6-8 months before the harmful chemical levels drop to acceptable levels. also, the reports say that if the car is parked in the sun, the heat intensifies the toxic chemical levels and that this can last up to 3 years. because this has made me so very sick i felt that i should report it. *tr
