Recently on the visit to honda dealer for air bag recall replacement the service advisor told me that my rack and pinon steering on the vehicle was leaking. i was surprised as the vehicle has been well maintained and not abused. it also has less than 98k on it. a search online shows that numerous other honda 2008 cr-v owners have noted a similar problem and this seems to be a common occurrence on this model which i believe warrants a recall for honda to repair at their expense. failure of this part would lead to sudden loss of steering and i feel this is a safety issue. complaints by other 2008 honda crv owners regarding this issue can be found at is this issue being escalated to a recall? steering failure should be considered a safety issue of the highest priority. quote was $1,600
Steering rack & pinion was found to have a leak. affected steering performance of vehicle along with leak being a fire hazard. purchased new in 2007.

I have not had any issues other than the typical recalls on my honda cr-v. the steering suddenly became difficult and took it to the dealer. i was lucky that there was minimal traffic and the dealership was close. they told me the rack and pinion steering needed to be replaced. it appears this is a common problem with the 2008 cr-v's. several mechanics now have indicated this should not have happened. very frustrating.
2008 honda crv with less than 67000 miles. taken for inspection in march and was told the rack and pinion needs to be replaced. starting to leak. needs to be replaced within a couple of months. i never saw where it was leaking. took it in to dealership and had rack and pinion replaced. they said it was bad, charged about $1000.00.
Steering rack and pinion is leaking when i took it to a mechanic he told me that this problem is common with the 2008 honda crv ,and very expensive to fix.idid some research online i was shocked by how many people complaining about same problem, and honda refuse to take the responsibility.this is a serious safety issue ,losing control of the vehicle while driving my cause death or injury.i still didn't fix my car cause i feel that honda should be held responsible for the repair of the vehicle after so many people complained and it's only effect this particular make and model.
The steering rack and pinion is leaking and the auto is hard to steer. this is a known problem with the 2008 honda cr-v and its very likely to cause a accident. i have read many reviews about the steering problems with this honda.
My wife informed me she had difficulty turning the steering wheel during a near miss accident with our 2008 honda cr-v. the power steering fluid was low but not near the minimum level, more fluid was added and the issue seemed to resolve itself. a few months later during a routine oil change, the mechanic noticed a power steeeing fluid leak and said the rack and pinion was leaking and replacing it was the recommended repair. the vehicle currently has 62,000 miles on it and the repair including alignment is around $1,250. my online research has revealed this issue is not isolated.
2008 honda cr-v with ~50k miles only. first owner. the rack and pinion is leaking! it cost me ~1500$ to fix it at a honda dealer in houston, tx area.
The high-pressure power steering hose is leaking fluid, dropping to the hot engine and the belts. i think it is more pronounced when the car is in motion. i have had the car checked out in a honda dealership near me because of a new noise arising from the engine compartment probably from the belts contaminated with the steering fluid. when i went online under honda recall, the very specific item ' the high-pressure power steering hose was under recall for many models of honda because of potential fire hazard. the honda of america told me that although the other models had recall for this item, the crv is not one among them. i'm assuming that the same defective product is used in many models including crv and therefore, honda should replace this defective item with potential for fire hazard from crv and possibly other models.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda cr-v. the contact stated that when the vehicle was taken to the tameron honda dealer ,located at 1675 montgomery hwy, birmingham, al 35216, and phone number: (205) 396-3108) for routine maintenance, they indicated that the power steering rack was leaking. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 84,000.
I took my honda cr-v 2008 to local honda dealer for air bag recalls. i asked them to check the sound coming from engine, sort of engine racing at a high speed while the vehicle was stationary. also, i was hearing noises when turning left or right. it felt like i had to apply force to turn the steering. after running diagnostics, the dealer came back with $1800 quote for replacement of rack and pinion, and the power steering pump. doing a simple google search, i came across postings from multiple honda cr-v 2008 owners, who were having the exact same problem. i called honda customer support number, who talked nicely, but said that they could not do anything as that was not part of the recall, and that i will have to get that fixed on my own. since so many people seem to have the exact same problem, honda should assist with repair, which otherwise is so very expensive. we did not buy honda to get surprises like these. hope they are listening!!! *tr
I was driving my vehicle and suddenly i heard a very high noise from my car. while taking the turn. i take it to the dealer and they diagnose the problem in power steering rack. they told power steering pressure horse is broken at power steering rack so need to replace both. many time when i accelerate the car, there is some shakes in the power steering also which is due to issue in the power steering. they have told it cost me around $1800 approximately to fix it. then i check over the internet and found same issue is going on in so many honda crv. honda should recall it. *tr
Takata recall, finally got call from dealership for the repair long due since june 2016. was told power steering fluid is leaking, repair cost 1584.17, oil pressure switch leaking, repair cost 187.45. could not afford the repair with living depend on social security income. was not notice any abnormal while driving. only drove 69,746 miles. *tr
Took my 2008 honda crv in for "takata recall" and was told that my car with 73027 odometer reading, steering rack has oil fluid leaks / seepage and will cost $1916.12 to fix. a/c compressor is also out $1200 to fix which would have been covered if it had gone out before june 2015. read on line that it was not if this compressor would go out but when, because honda knew their was a problem with the compressor. the compressor and this steering oil leak should have been a recalled. these are dangerous problems and i can't afford to get this fix, i called honda's head office and they refused to help me.
Power steering fluid leaking badly in many 08 honda crvs. it is clearly a fire hazard. needs to replace the power steering rack as a whole. the vehicle veers to certain direction despite if the new tire and alignment. potential accident down the line.
Steering wheel "gave-in" multiple times while accelerating through turns at 15mph or sharp curves at 50-60mph. for example, when turning left, wheel gave-in to the left and grabbed, but wheels did not move with extra movement of the steering wheel, like steering was moving on its own. i took it back to the dealership within a few days of buying it, telling them i had no control of steering around curves or turns. they diagnosed it as a faulty steering rack. after rack replacement, steering is normal. this vehicle only had 90,037 miles.
After noticing a whining noise coming from the engine compartment i began to experience difficulty controlling the steering wheel during turns at any speed. after a day or two it became worse and much louder. a straining noise could be heard every time the wheel was turned whether in motion or at rest. i topped off the power steering fluid until i could get to the dealership, but the leak is so bad it only stays full for 24 hours. there were several times that week where turning was difficult and erratic as if the wheel was not wanting to steer in the direction i was pointing it. brought to rick hendrick honda of charleston south carolina and was told the same as the other 50 complaints reported to the nhtsa. the power steering fluid is leaking onto engine belts that now need to be replaced.that the power steering hose, pump, switch, and various steering parts need replacement. total cost? 1200 dollars parts and labor. this is a safety concern. hazards are loss of control of steering while driving. leaking flammable power steering fluid on to high temp surfaces (catalytic converter). this is not normal wear and tear this is a manufacturer defect that should be addressed and resolved by honda or their dealerships at no cost to the owner.
Front passenger lock jamming. power steering reservoir bubbling and making a whirring noise.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda cr-v. while driving 30 mph, the power steering made a loud whining noise and became difficult to steer. in addition, power steering fluid sprayed onto the back of the engine compartment. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 102,000.

Rack and pinion had to be replaced and i have had to get several new tires due to the issue. strange noise and of coarse dealership responded like they would really have to take a look at it even though it seems to be an ongoing problem with this car. they knew immediately what the problem was .....
Boots and inner bellow boot clamps and inner tie rod lock washer needed to be replaced.
Brought my cr-v in for routine service and tires was told by mechanic stated that power steering rack n pinion was leaking and had to be replaced. i purchased a honda for durability but apparently this particular year model has had problems with steering from several consumers and should be recalled.

Whine in power steering which dealer wants to charge one hour to replace o-ring in power steering line. many reports of the same problem in honda cars found online, a tech bulletin issues on some models but not on mine.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda cr-v. while driving at approximately 40 mph, the contact heard an abnormal noise and a vibration coming from the steering wheel. the failure was recurring. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the power steering rack needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 47,000.
Bought our 2008 crv, brand new from the dealer. brought car for routine oil change. mechanic mentioned that in his years of working there, this is on of the worst leaks he has seen. my car is driven in the suburbs, to pick up kids and no long road trips. we bought a honda specifically for their craftsmanship and durability and now we have to shell out $2000 for replacement of the steering rack. i think with all the complaints of 2008 crv models about their steering racks, honda should recall and replace it! i'm afraid that this is a fire hazard and a big safety issue and that something might fail when we are driving. what a big disappointment, honda
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda cr-v. while the vehicle was being serviced by a dealer for an unrelated issue, the dealer observed steering fluid leaking and the steering linkage was damaged. the technician stated that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 59,384.

Me and my wife bought a 2008 honda crvlx and the dealership on 4-15-2015 and said they did a inspection on the honda then i took it to my mechanic and they told me the rack and pinion and boot was bad and can cause the steering to go bad to me and alot of other reviews i have read had the same problem also my wife drove on the interstate for the first time in new call and the steering wheel was shaking there should be a recall no matter what about the rack and pinion going bad and if it breaks while driving it would probably cause a wreck thanks *tr
The 2008 honda cr-v has issues with the power steering system. i purchased my car new car and recently brought my car into the dealer for a door-lock actuator recall at david mcdavid honda in texas and i was told by the dealership that i have a leak in my rack and pinion that cannot be fixed. i have to replace the entire power steering/ rack and pinion system with an alignment for about a cost of $1500. this is a significant problem/defect with the 2008 cr-v and honda should recall the model. this is a safety issue due to a fire hazard. my car mileage is only 11, 637. it does not make sense for it to have a power steering problem at this time. *tr
Brought my vehicle in for an oil change and was advised that my rack and pinion needed replacement. safety issue. *tr
Power steering rack and pinion reportedly need replacement, and realignment, due to fluid link. this appears to be very common for this vehicle, year and make. there should be a recall notice for this.
Due to a faulty steering rack, steering wheel was pulled out of my hands during a right hand turn. no accident due to low speed at time of occurrence, but very frightening. despite other reported occurrences of this malfunction at low mileages, honda would not take responsibility.

I bought my 2008 crv used in 2010 and soon after put on 4 new tires. now it is 2014 and i put on another new set of tires. i wondered why i needed tires so soon, well now i know. i bought 4 new tires and when they tried to do the alignment they told me i needed to buy a camber kit and showed me the picture of the alignment after. they were unable to align the right rear passenger wheel without this added kit. i can't afford this. *tr
The 2008 honda crv has issues with the power steering system. ~ i purchased my car new car, and recently brought my car into the dealer for state inspection. i was told by hendricks honda, woodbridge, va that i have a leak in my rack & pinion which cannot be fixed. i have to replace the entire power steering/ rack&pinion systems with an alignment for a cost of over $1600. i asked whether this was a common problem for this year's model and didn't get a straight answer. based on numerous reports here and on the web, it appears that this is a significant problem/defect with 2008 crvs and honda should recall the model. i also understand by reports folks have filed that this is potentially a safety hazard, possible fire hazard. honda should be required to recall and correct the defect.. *tr

The 2008 crv pulls to the right when over 40 mph. there were 2 wheel alignments done recently, and the dealer says there is nothing wrong with the car. when you drive the car and let go of the steering wheel it pulls to the right. it takes constant pressure on the steering wheel to keep the car driving in a straight line. in my opinion this is a safety issue. the dealer says there is nothing wrong. i disagree and will not buy another honda crv. this is a safety issue. *tr
I have been the only owner and bought my 2008 honda cr-v brand new. i take my oil change to honda dealership thinking they would advise me if there was something wrong with my car. also, to help ensure i do preventative maintenance with my vehicle. i live in texas and it gets very hot here. i never had any problems until now, when the weather starts getting cooler. i started hearing a "clicking noise" whenever i turn my wheel to the right, especially in a cold morning. it didn't use to make that noise whenever it gets hot in the afternoon. but then, the past couple of days the noise is now pretty much permanent. i tried taking my car to the dealership, i have 44k on it. but they want to charge me $75 to do a diagnostic test. i asked them if they can waive it since i've been a customer for the past 3 years. they wouldn't budge. needless to say, i went to another dealership to take a look. they said i needed to replace my rack and pinion. my car is pretty brand new, i had high hopes when it comes to honda vehicles. i've had a honda accord and an acura tl in the past. for some reason, my honda cr-v is having a lot of mechanical problems. the steering wheel is a safety issue. *tr
