We have classified the 16 complaints from 2008 Honda CR-V about SUSPENSION into the following categories.
2008 cr-v subframe/rear control arm rusted so severely came apart while driving. very fortunate there was not an accident, this caused sudden loss of control of vehicle. had to be towed and is now inoperable and unable to be repaired. there is a recall in canada to address this condition, why not the united states? we contacted honda customer service to inquire and no response from them. this is a very dangerous condition that gave no warning. the body is not rusted.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda cr-v. while driving 55 mph, the rear passenger wheel detached from the vehicle without warning. the contact managed to veer the vehicle to the shoulder of the road and called the police. a police report was not filed. the police towed the vehicle back to the contact's home. there was no damage to the vehicle. the contact called his insurance company and was informed that an investigation would need to be conducted by the manufacturer. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided the contact with a case number. the contact was informed that the vin was not included in a recall. the failure mileage was approximately 190,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda cr-v. while driving 10 mph, the contact stated that the trailing arm on the rear passenger tire detached from the vehicle. the coil springs were loose and were no longer sturdy; therefore, the vehicle was unable to move. the vehicle was towed to the contact's home. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was notified of the failure, but the contact had not received any information regarding the failure. the failure mileage was 182,000.
We had our 2008 honda crv into the local dealer for an alignment. during the alignment, they had pointed out corrosion issues with the rear frame on the passenger side where the rear trailing arm mounts to the frame. they said that eventually, the vehicle would not be safe. i had a body shop look at the frame and they said that the drivers side is solid but appears to be weak. on our way home from the store, we hit a rabbit on the highway. the vehicle drove fine at the time. we got about 5 miles down the road and went over a set of train tracks, nothing special and the trailing arm pulled completely out of the rear passenger side frame. the whole frame section in that area is corroded and rusted. had we been going faster then 35, it would have been very likely we would have lost control and crashed. there should be something done about this in the us. canada already has a recall for the same thing on the 2007 - 2011 honda crv. this is a major safety concern if you are living in an area that uses salt during the winter time. the vehicle was washed several times throughout the last several winters and it didn't prevent any of the corrosion. out of the vehicles we have own over the years, there has never been one that corroded the way the crv has.
While driving my passenger rear wheel collapsed. got it towed to riverside honda in marquette mi. was told the wheel rusted through the frame. we were lucky we weren't killed. after researching i found canada has recalled 83,000 of the same year make and model. they were offering to buy back or fix vehicles if possible. i was told it can't be fixed. honda usa corporation says we do not have any such issue. i dont believe it. what action do i take as they said its my problem ?
Took my ca in for scheduled maintenance service to the dealers and they said my structs and or shocks seals are cracked and leaking , my car only has 37,000 miles on it. well taken care of, only use to shopping or doctors. structs and shocks should not have gotten that bad. need to find out if an warranty or extenstions are available from the manufacture. honda corp. ?????
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda cr-v. the contact stated that there were several failures that the dealer was notified of for months, but was unable to provide a permanent repair solution. the dealer completed a recall repair for the door actuator and, shortly after the repair, the alarm randomly sounded and locked the contact inside the vehicle. the dealer replaced the door actuator a second, time but the contact was uncertain if the part was actually replaced. the suspension was also unstable and caused the vehicle to wobble. in addition, the brake pedal felt spongy and was difficult to engage. the vehicle was taken to more than two dealers for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was unknown.
After balancing rotating tires and 2 alignments car continues to pull to the right. claim alignment is correct but continues to pull right on all roads at all speeds
I bought my 2008 crv used in 2010 and soon after put on 4 new tires. now it is 2014 and i put on another new set of tires. i wondered why i needed tires so soon, well now i know. i bought 4 new tires and when they tried to do the alignment they told me i needed to buy a camber kit and showed me the picture of the alignment after. they were unable to align the right rear passenger wheel without this added kit. i can't afford this. *tr
The 2008 crv pulls to the right when over 40 mph. there were 2 wheel alignments done recently, and the dealer says there is nothing wrong with the car. when you drive the car and let go of the steering wheel it pulls to the right. it takes constant pressure on the steering wheel to keep the car driving in a straight line. in my opinion this is a safety issue. the dealer says there is nothing wrong. i disagree and will not buy another honda crv. this is a safety issue. *tr
At 16800 miles - vehicle makes squealing noise turning right or left. dealer found backing plate scraping and wheel nut missing. bent backing plate so it would not scrape and replaced wheel nut. alignment issues continue right front wheel gets hot after short drive and has burning smell - mileage now 25000. this type of problem is reported 1000's of times by owners of honda crvs. when will honda issue a recall for this? *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda cr-v. while driving approximately 55 mph the contact heard a grinding coming from the rear passenger side wheel. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostics. the mechanic stated that he rear passenger side wheel bearing would have to be replaced. after the repair the contact heard the grinding noise coming from the rear driver side wheel and took the vehicle back to the mechanic. the mechanic stated that the rear driver side wheel bearing would now have to be replaced. the vehicle was not further repaired. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 46,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda cr-v. the contact was traveling 70 mph when they heard a grinding noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. the contact then attempted to move the vehicle over to the side of the road but the rear wheels locked abnormally. the vehicle was towed to the dealer and the contact was told that the rear bearings would need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileages were 34,000.
The vehicle drifts to the right. this drift has nothing to do with the crown of the road. it drifts to the right on perfectly flat roads. i thought the wheels needed to be aligned, but after the first wheel alignment (at the honda dealer in tallahassee) the problem persisted and continued to persist after several more attempts to align the wheels. the dealership consulted with the manufacturer in california and subsequently the right front strut was replaced. that did not solve the problem. the dealership said that both it and the manufacturer were aware of the problem and that it could not be fixed. the dealer called it "memory steer" and said it was a known problem with the 2008 cr-v. they also mentioned that it might have something to do with being unable to adjust the camber on this vehicle. i've noted numerous similar complaints on the internet. i took the vehicle to the dealer approximately seven times over the course of a couple of months and the problem was not fixed. the vehicle still drifts to the right. it needs to be fixed. (the vehicle mileage is the mileage at the time i purchased this pre-owned vehicle. i purchased it in des moines, iowa and now live in tallahassee, fl.). *tr
Vehicle began experiencing steering wheel shimmy/vibration at highway speeds (65-80ish) and slight pull to the right. rotated tires. had tires balanced. purchased new tires. all actions did nothing to reduce the vibration/pulling issues. *tr
2008 honda crv wheel alignment problem. many others owner in u.s. have the same problem. http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/honda-cr-v/tcu5mevbrljo6ctik the car always pull to the right even with 4 brand new tires, both front and back alignment done with correct reading. i visited 3 times to honda dealer regarding this problem and they could not fix it and i have found out that many other owners in u.s. have the same problem. please look into this. hope i can still control it, but i know it will damage my 4 new tires within the next 6 months. *tr
2008 honda c rv, -- 13,000 miles--3 yr-36,000 warranty - purchased new oct, 2008 very noticeable noise backing up with a sharp turn, excessive wear on passenger side back tire-bald. . *tr
Unable to align rear tires due to cambers lacking adjustment. *tr
2008 honda cr-v continues to pull to the right. i had to replace my tires twice each time around 20k miles - the tires were worn unevenly even though i had them rotated 3 times in the past year. brought into mile high honda in denver to check alignment, each time they claim nothing is wrong and it is normal to have to replace tires every 20k miles. i also complained that the steering wheel is not straight when driving. i first reported this issue when the car had 9k miles on it.. it has been a year and 1/2 and issue remains. this is a very dangerous defect that for some reason they can not figure out how to fix. the car does not drive straight. period. i guess they are waiting for someone to get seriously hurt or die before they will admit there is a problem. *tr
After three service attempts by the honda dealer to correct the car not tracking straight, i had a local alignment shop install rear camber adjusting kits. car did not track straight, prior to installing the after-market kits, the car would continually drift left. the dealer now states the warranty is void because i put non-honda parts on the car. when i called the dealer parts department, they have the same after market rear camber kit. searching customer complaints on sites such as edmound's, a significant number of customers complain about tire wear. my tires were wearing excessively and abnormal prior to correcting alignment on all four wheels. it appears that the 2008 honda cr-v has a manufacturer defect and later year cars do not when a search of customer complaints is done. *tr
I experienced excessive "cupping" on the rear tires of my new 2008 honda cr-v awd. the tires began to make a very loud noise and the vehicle developed a slight bouncing ride at about 22,000 miles and both issues became intolerable at about 26,000 miles, and you could feel the extreme cupping of the tires when rubbing your hand over the tread. i had the dealer rotate the tires with every scheduled oil change, and the cupping problem still continued to occur. the vehicle came with the conti 4 x 4 tires, and they needed to be replaced at my expense well before a reasonable life expectancy. the honda dealer would not provide me with any warranty assistance or discount, stating that they would do a 4 wheel alignment on the vehicle - at my expense - and sell me 4 new tires. there are numerous forums on the internet where people are complaining and alleging that the awd vehicles (fwd's are ok) are leaving the factory with improper alignment of the rear camber and it is causing the premature wear of the factory tires. the dealer claimed that they had no knowledge of this problem. i took the vehicle to a national tire shop and purchased 4 new tires and had them perform a 4 wheel alignment on the vehicle....the computer read-out that they provided me showed that the rear tires were aligned in extreme opposite directions. the employees at the tire shop alleged that they were very familiar with the problem because they see lots of 2007 and 2008 honda crv's in their shop with the same problem. i believe there is a problem for which honda doesn't want to accept responsibility. tire cupping is not only a nuisance because of the rumbling noise that gets louder at freeway speeds - it is also a safety issue for braking and traction because of how it affects the amount of tread surface contact with the roadway. immediately upon leaving the tire shop, the problem disappeared and the vehicle ride is quiet and great. i cost me over $800 for new tires and a 4 wheel alignment. *tr
Lack of adjustment for rear camber on 2008 honda crv. have contacted american honda and they do not feel there is a problem. dealer has contacted same and they can't get anywhere either. dealer acknowledges that there is a problem with the lack of adjustment for rear chamber on this vehicle. there is a aftermarket part that will correct the problem. but i should not have to pay for this part. if i where to buy this part and have it installed by local dealer he said i would void my warranty. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda cr-v. while making left or right turns at approximately 15 mph, the contact stated heard a loud snapping sound underneath the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. approximately 2 years later, while having the vehicle serviced the contact was informed that the tires on the vehicle had become excessively worn over time. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 1,000 and the current mileage was 21,000. updated 11/03/10. *lj updated 11/04/10
Purchased 2008 crv brand new, it came with bridgestone tires. a few months after purchase, i noticed vehicle pulls to right. after rotation, vehicle pulls to left. they also wore out rapidly 20k; needed to be replaced. i contacted honda dealer. after they conducted alignment check they said you need to contact firestone/bridgestone for tire warranty because of radial pull. firestone agreed to replace all 4 tires. i just did my first rotation after new set of tires and now vehicle pulls to left. i must put some muscle work on steering wheel to keep vehicle straight. i will be going back to honda to follow-up. there is an issue with the either the tires or suspension/alignment on this vehicle that honda needs to address. *tr
