We have classified the 65 complaints from 2016 Honda Civic about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Over 12 different times in the past 6 months since i purchased the car it has had serious electrical issues ranging from locking itself with the keyless fob inside the vehicle during a snow storm, all windows including moon roof rolling completely down during a rainstorm when parked or in motion. when parked, the alarm blaring non stop for hours and the battery dying completely without warning or drainage on my part of any kind. all systems on the car shut down completely after loss of power including the braking system and you can dive it that way. it brakes hard on its own on the freeway. there is a usb port in the center console right next to cup holder that can get wet if you have a drink in there. i notice the weather conditions were cloudy, raining, or snowing during the majority of the bigger issues.
System throws codes non stop recently electronic brake system light emission light saying trans and ecu aren't on same program. every time i take to honda they wanna blame the owner. i go there with tons of documents about how others having same issues but they won't do anything about this, i'm told i have to pay in order for them to diagnose the issue and that's with an extended warranty bwt. they will come up with every excuse not to help you, honda is putting a lot of drivers in danger by not fixing these system and computer problems . i work for a honda dealership i know what and how mechanics are instructed to do
I've had my car for less than a year and on three separate occasions it has failed to start. the first time it happened, i did a google search and saw that this was a common problem with the car. i found a youtube video that gave instructions on a possible remedy -- which included going under the hood of the car and finagling with the battery, etc. my husband tried this remedy and once my car started, i immediately took it to the dealership. at the dealership i was told that my battery was dead; they replaced the battery. months later, with my new battery, this happened again. my husband tried the remedy again but when i took it to the dealership i told him that they should look further into this issue because it is not just the battery. to me, it was some kind of electrical glitch. the dealership informed me that because they could not replicate the problem of the 'no-start', there was nothing they could do. at 6 months pregnant i told them that i was being left in a vulnerable position with a very unreliable vehicle. i told them that a google search would show that this was happening with many honda civics and that this must be a known issue. they said they would have a honda representative contact me and that never happened. i told myself that if this happened again, i would do nothing myself. i would get my car towed to the dealership. well, of course, it has happened again at 9 months pregnant. i had my car towed to the dealership because it again has not started. the car remains in accessory mode and the brakes and shift gear is locked. i truly think i have a lemon vehicle because this company is refusing to look further into this issue. to note, each time the car hasn't started, it has been after i've turned the car off and returned to it a short time later, either at home on the street or at work in the parking lot.
I purchase this car in june of 2019; i had the car for approx 5 months. i told the honda dealer mechanic that something was wrong with the brakes when i bought it. i brought it back in september. they claim they checked the brakes and everything was find. i had a maintenance check and an oil check. a month in half later i experience the problem with the brakes i was complaining about in september. on 11/14/19 i drove my car to a location no problems. i parked the car . when i went back to turn on the car that's when the brake lights came on saying electrical brake problem. i read they had a recall on the electrical brake system. i wonder did this car ever got fixed from the recall. turned my car on and the brake system light begin flashing stating electric parking brake problem. the red light continued blinking. the car was in park when this happen. the car was stationary. i drove the car on with the warning lights still on.
When i turn on the car all of the electrical lights turn on and the car locks, i can't move it from the p (park) shift. this has happened to me in the last 2 1/2 months, 3 times.
The vehicle experienced an intermittent but sudden and complete loss of braking power while driving on the highway moving at around 40mph. in part due to the low speed, the vehicle was safely maneuvered off the road once braking power was regained. the car dealership was able pin the issue to an electrical circuit failure in the brake control unit (honda error codes v300-49 and v3003-68) and recommended changing the vsa modulator unit. regular scheduled maintenance done on the vehicle just a month prior to the incident at the same dealership indicated no observed issues with braking. attached is the invoice of the vsa unit replacement work performed as recommended.
I purchased a brand new 2016 honda civic in march 2016. within the first 6-8 months i began having electrical brake problem issues and getting notifications regarding faulty brakes. i had to call honda roadside assistance at least twice within the first year of owning the vehicle due to the faulty brakes and being stranded. then came the electrical issues. i would lock the car and all windows would be up when leaving the car but i'd return to all windows down and the sunroof open! this happened twice within the first two years of owning the car! last but certainly not least is the battery issue. the battery won't last 10 months without issues! if you try to charge your car in accessory mode, the car battery will die and you will need a jump. i had aaa and used up all but one of my calls up on the battery issues this car has. my car insurance has roadside assistance and i had so many calls to get jumped because of this battery that i was told in june that my roadside assistance was revoked for a year!
I have issues that have been reported previously and while the vehicle was under warranty. now that the warranty is out the problem has been more severe. the 1st problem is the display for the radio, heating and cooling and the speed display has been effected some but not like the radio and cooling/heating display. it has gone blank, it has froze up. it has lost all functioning. the 2nd is the air compressor. it has a leak and apparently this is an issue with a lot of the tourings. people have replaced them and had the same issues. the displays have had problems both in drive modes and parked. i have googled on how to fix those issues and we have disconnected the battery to do the same. the cooling/heating system cools some times but not all the time.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 honda civic. the contact stated that the air conditioner was blowing hot air. the contact drove the vehicle to browns honda city (7160 ritchie hwy, glen burnie, md 21061, (410) 553-8014) where it was diagnosed that the air conditioner compressor was cracked and a new one needed to be installed. the vehicle was not repaired because the dealer did not have the part. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 44,837.
Eps sub harness is made from a soy based product that attracts rodents and a common cause for wires being chewed and destroyed. as soon as we presented the problems with honda mechanic he immediately and suspiciously asked if we parked the car outside. upon his inspection of the engine he only looked at wires with predetermination that the cause of the issues was wiring. this appears to be a common compliant among the honda community and law suits have been filed, only to be dismissed due to technicalities of probable cause. the damage endangers the consumer driving because the car stalls and the driver loses the ability to steer because of the loss of power steering and function. because these are shorts occurring in the electrical system they tend to clear up in between drives making the driver believe the car is functional, but this only rises the risk to injury by accident and or even death.
Touch screen panel that controls the entire settings of the car over heats and blocks out making it very uncomfortable and upsetting not being able to control your /c settings or your radio and your phone. we have taken our 2016 honda civic touring that same year back multiple times in regards to this issue. however every time we took it they would replace it. since then the touch screen panel has some what worked properly to the point where it was just slow in functioning but workable. this time on june 27, 2019 it has completly done the same thing we were facing in the beginning and this is stationary and in motion, i have tried resetting it by disconnecting the battery and joining cables together and it just didnt work it continues to not work properly since day of purchase.i would like for some one to help us resolve this issue and to replace our panel for a good working one.
Upon return to car after leaving car locked, four windows are found open all the way while shopping, parked in parking lot or parked at home or elsewhere, when opening windows from inside, glass goes up/down repeatedly, trunk opens by itself while vehicle is in motion. car is unsafe, subject to theft, or interior damage by the elements-rain, snow, etc. serious electrical/control problems. trunk problem was reported earlier to nhtsa shortly after purchase date of 3/05/2019 from dealer. dealer was also notified, they quickly checked & found nothing wrong. vehicle was driven at various speeds in interstate, county roads, local streets, at different dates, etc. *js
Upon closing the car trunk the parking lights flashed & stayed on and the car "locked-up". the car could not be unlocked using either the key-bob or the key. this issue was reported to honda (case #9624986) who basically ignored the issue stating that they had no knowledge of this issue. the car was parked in our driveway at the time. after about 30 minutes 'fooling' with the key and key-bob the parking lights went off and we were able to unlock & drive the car. there are numerous accounts of this issue found on the internet by "googling" "2016 honda civic doors won't unlock"
My 2016 honda civic air conditioning compressor failed and no longer blows cold air. i reviewed several honda message boards and forums and discovered that this is a common problem with this model vehicle that homda refuses to acknowledge.
Vehicle was parked on driveway, when turned on it had battery and electric issues (battery just replaced by professional) ac blows out hot air (ac fluid just refilled as well by professional) and back door won't open from inside. car was purchased less than two years ago and already malfunctioning.
The rear facing camera fails to display on the screen when the transmission is in reverse. this has happened 5-6 times since 01/01/2019. this has only been observed after initial startup.
Power window on driver's side when trying to auto close (wind up feature) it goes half way and then auto opens (goes back down). noticed multiple times when stationary (both in park, neutral, and drive with foot on brake).
Car will not start. all system warning lights flash: eectric parking brake parking, vehicle stability assist problem, anti-lock brake system problem, brake system problem, power steering. will start with a jump start. this is not a everyday occurrence. took it into honda, they said it was the batter. here we are 2 days later and the car is doing the same thing. we have been stranded numerous time and the problem has been ongoing for over a year.
I purchased this vehicle from a honda dealership vancouver, wa in 2016. recently, the car alarm would go off randomly throughout the night. i took the vehicle into the dealership and the battery was checked and replaced. this did not solve the issue. i went in again to the dealership and they did a diagnostic check of electronic system and found security codes relating to hood switch in the security history. they suggested to replace the hood latch/switch assembly and recheck. another person i spoke with, that had the same issue, claimed that replacing the hood latch assembly was unsuccessful. i asked about manufacturer's warranty since this item isn't covered by dealership warranty of 3 yrs/36k miles. the defect is from a part that is caused by an electrical issue and falls under manufacturing error and not a wearable part that has anything to do with warranty or something that fatigues over time. i wrote honda regarding this. in the meantime, i cannot use my security system, that i paid for on the vehicle, due to it possibly draining my new battery. honda (regional service manager) stated, over the phone, that they would not cover the cost of replacement and that it falls under their warranty of parts. this issue is hazardous because the sensor for the car alarm trips itself electronically when the hood is shut. this could possibly cause a fire and/or greater damage to the vehicle or others. additionally, i drive for rideshare and this puts risk to my clients as well. the alarm sounds only when the car is locked and alarm set while parked. it occurs every few hours after alarm is set. after inspecting the hood myself, i could see no damage to the hood latch and would not need a replacement hood latch assembly. this issue is one of electronic nature, involving the car alarm sensor on hood latch, security system, and the electronic car maintenance monitoring system.
Not sure if it's the battery or the battery sensor but my car when i want to turn it on it'll not turn on and it would just flash all the lights in the board and won't fully turn on.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 honda civic. while driving highway speeds, the vehicle jerked and hesitated. occasionally, while operating the vehicle, multiple warning indicators illuminated, indicating failures with the braking system, steering, and stability control. when the vehicle was turned off and restarted, it operated normally. the failures were not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer and local dealer (apple honda 1, 801 whiteford rd, york, pa) were notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 45,000.
Stationary car completely shut down, would not start, battery check ok, could not take out of park, had to have it towed to shop and have tcm replaced and software updated- in motion -steering wheel slips and shakes as well - very disappointed in honda.
Takata recall while in motion on a public street/ highway while attempting to compress the gas pedal the vehicle fails to accelerate increasing speed!! also, at time vehicle will say emergency break is malfunctioning and the tire pressure light also alerts. it's a safety issue because this car is going full speed and looses power. having to pull aside and restart the vehicle once or multiple times to bring it back to safe driving conditions.
I got into the trunk of my civic (keyless) and when i tried to open the car, everything had shut down and it is locked and won't respond to the emergency key or the fob. this began 2 days ago and i see several other complaints o the internet of the same problem. it was parked in my driveway. not being able to get into my car here in the arizona desert could be a serioue problem.
This is my second time. parked car in garage ,after few hours tried to turn on.when we try to start it wonts, but the sign pops up saying electrical parking brake error..car had to be towed twice.lucky car was in garage when both incident happened.took it to dealer twice .today we picked it up found dftc u3ooo-49,ecu internal circuit failure.they performed software update.they said it is ok this time.can happen again.how can this problem be dealt? my daughter drives this car and she is moving to college in august and will need a car.hope this problem is dealt quickly.if not will need to replace another car.i feel this is not safe for her to use.
My car was parked and i tried to turn my car on and i stepped on my foot brake it felt real stiff than i attempted to push the start button but my car failed to start. several error codes popped up on my dashboard. (brake system problem, brake hold system problem, power stearing system (eps) problem vehicle stability assisst (vsa) peonlem, hill start assisst problem, electric parking brake problem, emissions problem.
Electronic braking system car on able to move from park . happened twice already . showing up on dashboard .
Fuel is leaking into the oil. the dealer just suggested changing the oil more often. i know this is a defect but what can i do? the electrical system is not reliable....one day my passenger window would not work from my control on the driver's side. finally it did--this was when parked. they replaced once and then "updated" the infotainment system once because of very disruptive things that happen on the screen while driving. once (this was parked) it totally locked up my iphone so that i could not use it even after i shut the car off (i was parked and had turned the car on ) and rebooted my phone! once i got locked out of my car after opening the trunk and closing it...my fob would not work and when i used the key, it set off the alarm, flashed the lights and reset all my personal settings. sometimes the steering wheel radio controls lock up and don't work. many times the radio screen goes black when i am driving and not touching it. one time it started beeping and would not stop....very dangerous as i try to drive with the beeping. and, my windshield wipers are very sporadic....does not matter if i try resetting them to auto....when it is not raining they go crazy, when it is raining they stop....sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. i have to spend too much time trying to get the car systems to work while driving that this is as dangerous as can be. the electrical system of this car is a lemon...and has been from the start. i have at most about 9,000 miles on this car but started noticing glitches long before 6,000. this is the top of the line car in this model.
2016 honda civic. consumer writes in regards to software issues resulting from new camera and software programming installation. *ld *js the consumer stated the adaptive cruise control, gps, lane keep assist, and the road departure mitigation were intermittently inoperable. *js *js
Steering wheel sticks while driving, causing over compensation, has caused me to run off the road; driving straight, 60mph, interstate car fails to start after driving more than an hour and a half at highway speeds, beencto dealer for both of these issues and have had no resolution.
A rodent crawled up into the engine compartment and chewed up the wires to coil connector. it made all of the dashboard warning lights to come on and the engine was shaking due to the mis-firing coil. it is honda fault because they covered/made the wires with soy, which attracts rodents. my 2016 civic is less than 2 years old with 9,500 miles, honda claims it is not covered under the warranty. honda then, wanted to sell me a $500 engine wiring harness, this is ridicules, because it doesn't resolve the problem, the rodents will be attracted to the new wire harness too. they also wanted to sell me spicy rodent tape for $48, this is a scam, honda needs to fix this problem, they will be losing loyal customers. if this happened on the freeway, it could have resulted in a fatal accident.
Trunk and windows open on their own. the vehicle is stationary, engine off, parked. brake hold comes on automatically while driving at low speeds in city. remote lock/unlock on key has intermittently not worked. while driving at high speeds on highway, doors kept locking and unlocking on their own. very fearful about the electronics system. this has happened over the course of the past several months.
Soybean wiring attracting animals. i have had the car for 1 year and it has happend twice with over 6,000 worth or damage. locked brakes, steering, electrical . a child rides in the car, this is a known issue that was never explained to me. pulled over to park. after trying to restart my vehicle it would not start even with a jump all systems, brakes steering locked.
2016 honda civic leased in october of 2016. i had several error messages come on screen for multiple issues so i brought the car to the honda dealership. was told an animal chewed through several wires and caused the power steering to go out. apparently this is a known issue as the dealership told me that this has happened multiple times to cars brought in. this is not covered under warrenty although it seems to be a manufacturing issue. so not only did i lose power steering while driving which is a severe safety concern especially while driving my 6 month old child in the vehicle, but its my responsibility to foot the $240 bill to repair the damage. also there is no clear solution to prevent animals from again chewing the wires and putting my family and i at risk again. that is unless i take the advice from the dealership which is to 'stuff my hood compartment with fabric softner dryer sheets because animals do not like the smell' which again brings up safety concernswith a potential fire hazard.
My 2016 honda civic coupe touring was parked in my attached garage at night with all windows and sunroof shut. in the morning when i went to the garage, both windows and the sunroof (which i never use) were wide open. in reading multiple car forums, this is not uncommon, however honda refuses to admit there is an issue. i believe it has something to do with a fob function that is programmed to intentionally perform the windows/sunroof open function with the fob. however, this function has no means of deactivation!! this causes a risk to all contents of the car. deactivation should be able to be made by car owner.
I received a letter stating that my car had a recall for the emergency brake system. i took it to the dealership to have it fixed however the recall is still open on my vehicle.
On two occasions, my civic has "locked up". upon starting the vehicle, all of the warning light illuminate and the car won't go into gear. i was stuck where i was and had to get the car moving so i forcefully engaged the vehicle by inserting the key into the shift knob area. when driving the car, all of the warning lights were still on and the steering wheel was difficult to move, the vehicle was very hard to maneuver, the brakes did not work well, and the problem persisted. i eventually disconnected the battery and "reset" the computer that way. the problem went away for a few months, then came back again same exact way. the next time, i did the same thing, disconnected the battery and it reset. i do not know if this problem is with the electrical system, transmission, braking, or whatever. all i know is it was very dangerous to drive after i was finally able to engage the transmission. one other point to make, i already had the "parking brake recall" software update completed by honda. the dealership said they did not have a recall for this type of problem and all they could do would be restart the car until they were able to recreate the problem. i did no think this was a good use of time (theirs or mine) so i am hoping for a recall soon!
Upon starting vehicle, center console screen was black. when i tapped the power button, the screen flashed green and went black. no radio function, no camera function, nothing. i drove on city streets to the gas station and in a few minutes, the computer suddenly woke up by itself and has been fine since. just called the service dept. woman said no one has called about a problem like this, but they'd be happy to run a diagnostic for $100. i've been down this road before with my old prius. they'll run the diagnostic and tell me they can't find anything wrong because they can't recreate the problem. meanwhile i'll be out $100 and my time. and looking at forums on the internet, this is a problem for other honda owners, so honda needs to do something about this. it can be a safety issue. drive by wire is dangerous if manufacturers can't get reliable software. we'll see if i hear back from the service department or not about tsb or software updates. i doubt it.
Sir/ma'am, i would like to address somewhat safety problem that many civic have. honda civic has a center touch screen that controls radio, temperature and importantly shows rear view camera and right side camera. today the center screen didn't even turn on and wasn't able to see an object rear and underneath of my car due to the screen not turned on. it is known issue for civic community. i wish that nhtsa take a look into this issues.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 honda civic. while driving 35 mph, the brake light illuminated and the vehicle became difficult to accelerate for a few moments. after the light went out, the vehicle operated normally. the contact also stated that the information center in the vehicle would randomly flicker and the check engine indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer where it was diagnosed that there was software failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 11,158.
The ac has went out on two occasions. the first occasion was due to the system needing to be recharged. the second being a hose was not connected correctly. the back tweeter speakers went out and had to be replaced. 3 audio updates needed to be done. while driving the car stopped accelerating and the car started shaking. there was no brakes or power steering at this time. different codes started lighting up the dash. i was able to get the car stopped and off the road into the ditch area. it is currently at honda.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 honda civic. when the vehicle was started, the emergency brake failure warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was towed to the dealer, but was not diagnosed. the contact was concerned that the soy base wiring harness had been eaten through by rodents. the manufacturer was notified of the issue. the vin was unknown. the approximate failure mileage was 34,000.
Battery died in normal weather condition in austin tx on 2/20/17. evey electrical operation was disabled. by jump starting the car, the battery was tested at auto parts shop autozone. the austzone technician reported that the battery was not holding the charge.
While driving the vehicle on city streets the (brake hold) light turns on then it brakes the vehicle on its own in the middle of the road and turns on the (hold) light . in order to continue driving i need to restart the engine back on. this has 3 times already. *tr
Steering wheel controls stopped working.
2016 honda civic. consumer writes in regards to brake system and software failures four days after owning the vehicle. *smd
I am still having brake system issues and not allowing me to gear and drive! since letter for recall in november, which already set appointment with dealership to reprogram or reboot system they stated would take care of,i have been back twice after that. i also have issues with the warning exclamation light flashing and was told all's fine the new cars are sensitive when take. my bluetooth connect acts up all time where not even being able to use amenities paying for with car.i'm pissed because now outside movie theater with kids and stuck again break locked. beyond a little inconvenience now. i have never had a bad experience with honda until got this 2016 honda civic *tr
Airbag advisory light is intermittent with or without a passenger sitting on the passenger seat while the car is moving or while the car is on running at idle. the happens everyday.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 honda civic. while driving various speeds, the brake warning indicator flashed intermittently on the instrument panel. the contact also mentioned that the check engine, power steering, and traction control warning indicators also illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that something under the vehicle was chewing the wires and they would need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 11,000.
The radio or said infotainment system does not work as advertised, not allowing you to use your google navigation or bluetooth which are 2 big safety concerns, the internet is flooded with complaints and all say honda is ignoring the problem and refusing a fix.
