We have classified the 17 complaints from 2006 Honda Civic about EQUIPMENT into the following categories.
2006 honda civic lx. consumer writes in regard to honda airbag inflator safety recall notice. *as the consumer stated the dealer and manufacturer refused to honor the air bag recall repair also, the air conditioner would blow hot air. *js
My dad has died from injuries sustained from a car accident, he told me his car 2006 honda civic accelerated on its own! the car accelerated at high rpm when he just went to accelerate. to enter the road making a left, instead the car went so fast within seconds, he lost control and his honda plowed threw a stop sign, then was finally stopped by a steel pole holding up a quick check sign! he sustained extensive chest injuries! 3 broken ribs, 2 dropped lungs, fractured sternum, fractured c4 and c7 spine injuries! he died due to a defect in the accerlaertion of the vehicle racing on its own! my dad has always kept up with recalls and has car logs and maintenance logs, etc. i hope other people never have to experience this tragic sudden death, due to a defect in manufacturer acceleration, or whatever equipment is responsible for this accident! it's a mfg defect! please address or at least make public aware this could happen to them! the consumer requested a status update. *js
Honda hybrid recall (summer 2010) to update software to address battery problems has resulted in major degradation in what little power existed in getting up hills. car 'freezes' and struggles to get up hills. extremely dangerous driving in street of san francisco. recently struggled to go up a highway onramp at 25-30mph - no load in car other than me. not until 15+seconds on the flats could i slowly manage to get to highway speeds. in the few months since the notice, there are many accounts on the web of other owners experiencing same power problems. i know i bought a car with hardly any power but this is dangerous. honda technician drove it with me and saw the problem. attempted to diagnose and i got a call back that this is 'normal' as a result of the software recall update. *tr
My 2006 honda civic had the tsb09-007 recall performed to reroute the drive belt and replace the pivot bolt on 3/9/2009. the bolt broke after another 20000miles on 8/21/2010. i do not think my dealer replaced the bolt in question (hoffman honda of west simsbury connecticut) or the recall is not sufficient to fix the problem. this is a safety issue because the tsb clearly states this failure can result in a loss of power steering. *tr
Vehicle's audio/radio not working. 65, 000 miles, one owner. radio switches to and from different outputs. only way to stop this from occurring is to shut radio off. once problem starts, it will happen more and more frequently until screen dims out and radio shuts down. *tr
We purchased a 2006 honda civic lx back in late 2008. back in the summer of 2010, the air conditioner just died. it blew air, just not cold air. honda dealership said it wasn't covered under the warrantee, and that it would cost us $950 for repairs.
Honda has performed a software update on my 2006 civic hybrid. the results are tantamount to having replaced my car with another that has markedly inferior response, performance, and gas mileage: * about 10 mpg decrease since the 8/4/2010 ima software update * rare iva assist on starting from 0, resulting in a noticeable lag between depressing the gas pedal and movement from a stopped position - this is a safety issue. * responsiveness of acceleration at highway speeds inconsistent and unpredictable - since this affects driver reaction and responsiveness this is a safety issue note: the software update renders the electric motor practically moot. since in my case the battery drops its charge radically over a 24 hour period if not used, the update appears to be doing little more than preventing an already compromised battery from failing. *tr
I have a 2006 honda civic and have had a problem with the sun visors splitting and falling into a down position without being able to put into an up position again. this results in an impeded view of my driving field. when i try to move it to the side window and make a turn the visor hits me in the head causing another issue while driving. within the first year i had to have the driver's side replaced (not sure about the passenger side), but it was under warranty. a year and a half ago i needed to have the driver's side replaced but it wasn't under warranty and i did not have the $65.00 to pay for it. now i need the passenger side replaced and the driver's side is so loose i have to push it up for every stop light so i can see it. it's extremely dangerous how it flops down and blocks your field of view. i made a complaint with honda but they said they can't do anything until there is a recall on the part. *tr
The air conditioner on my 2006 honda civic failed. since i have a 10-yr extended warranty, i had my honda dealer diagnose the problem (cost $75). they told me that the ac condenser was damaged due to a rock/pebble impacting the condenser and that the warranty would not cover the problem. i had them replace the condenser (cost: $782). it turns out that there are hundreds of similar complaints about this defect for this honda and others going back to 2003. there is absolutely no protection in the front grille that would prevent this from happening again. the design of this honda welcomes debris to come through the grille! a simple $5.00 screen attached to the grille would have saved me $856. something has to be done. i now have to look for my own custom grille to stop this from happening again. it's not if, it's when. *tr
2006 honda civic tires are cupping and wearing prematurely. a loud pulsing noise is coming from the rear of the car along with a vibration that corresponds with the noise. local dealership replaced the rear upper control arm in accordance with service bulletin 08-001 dated february 8, 2008. unfortunately i had to pay for the new tires since it is only a service bulletin and not a recall.
The sun visors begin separating, dangling and intefere with field of vision during normal traffic conditions. dealership replaced my visors three times prior to warranty expiration and now they are no longer willing to do it. it is a safety issue because is blocks my field of vision. *tr
2006 honda civic driver's side sun visor split at the top seam. it is now either stuck up or down and requires a great deal of effort to move it. *tr
I leased a new 2006 honda civic, 2-door coupe in april 2006. twice while my car was still under the mileage warranty, the driver's side sun visor (part #88380-sna-a01za, h/c 8073496) failed. failure in this case means the unit split apart at the seam connected to the arm that holds it to the headliner. the only way to fix the problem is to replace the visor. each time the visor was replaced it lasted approximately a year before failing again. each part replacement was identical to the original equipment. the most recent failure occurred just after the car went out of the 3-year warranty, and before the 36,000 mile expired. i held off replacing it because i knew i would have to pay for it. recently, i narrowly averted an accident caused by my defective visor. it would not stay up against the roof, flopping down 100% of the time, which caused me to miss seeing a traffic light and to enter an intersection after a traffic signal turned red. luckily, the driver crossing from my right was able to see me and to come to a stop in time. but i knew i could not delay replacing the visor. a new visor cost me close to $70. there was no aftermarket product available and i did not have the right tools to install a new visor myself. i went online and found several blogs: www.usrecallnews.com and www.civicforums.com and www.honda-tech.com, filled with complaints from other honda owners having identical problems. all reported the same thing: honda will not fix them free of charge after the warranty. and there has been no redesign of the part. this is an expensive item to have to replace once a year (on average), and it is very dangerous to operate the vehicle with a defective visor. it drops down and fully obstructs vision in the upper half of the windshield. surely this fact, backed up by my own experience and that of others, constitutes reason for a safety recall. by the way, i now own the car which is a good vehicle in other respects. please advise. *tr
After normal use the driver side sun visor has broke. the inside of the visor apparently has substandard parts and manufacturing allowing the plastic inside to break. the visor does not stay up and becomes a distraction. *tr
I bought a 2006 honda civic with 50k miles on it one month ago. the air conditioning did not blow cold air from the very first time i turned it on. when i took it back to the honda dealership (it has a bumper-to-bumper warranty for a year), they said a pebble hit the condenser and it would cost $700 to replace and is not covered by warranty because it is considered a road hazard. after reading this website: http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/honda/tq02nf40877b57gf6 and talking to the dealership, i found that this is a very common problem. i feel that honda should be responsible for this part. *tr
My 2006 civic lx coupe has had problems with the windshield visors. i place a windshield shade daily when i park my car at work and use the visor to hold the shade in place. i've been having problems with the visor not being able to stay up because the plastic part that surrounds the rod splits open and the visor will not stay in the up position. a co-worker has a 2007 civic and has had the same problem. the dealer replaced his visors and they told him that there was a bulletin on this issue. my civic has 39000 miles and so i've passed the 36000 mile warranty limit. the dealer said that my warranty period is over since i was over 36000 miles. i have read that there have been a few complaints about this visor problem and i feel that this can cause a visibility problem. i understand that the warranty is over, but the visor has nothing to do with mileage. *tr
The air conditioner in my recently purchased 2006 honda civic was not cooling properly. upon taking it in, it was discovered the condenser had a hole which, according to the dealer, was most likely caused by a rock/road debris. i am forced to pay over $500 to repair because warranty will not cover since it was likely caused by road debris, but upon doing research, this is a common problem and likely bad design on honda's part. http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/honda/tq02nf40877b57gf6. *tr
I have had my '06 honda civic in 3 times for the air conditioner. they are saying that a pebble hit the condenser causing a leak. they say that this is caused by road debris, so they will not cover it under warranty. they charge $600 to fix this problem. i did some research and found hundreds of these cases with honda vehicles. this is a design flaw since the condenser is not properly protected against debris like it should be. this is going to continue to happen over and over again unless honda has a recall to fix the problem. *tr
When i took my 2006 honda civic lx in for a/c repair to the honda dealer, they told me it was apparently hit by a rock that put a hole in the condenser, causing the freon to leak out. this isn't covered under warranty, and will cost me over $500. they told me to file a claim with my insurance company. i have seen on the internet that this is happening to a lot of people with several different models of hondas. honda should come forward and do a recall due to poor manufacturing of the a/c compressor. if this very same thing is happening to that many honda customers, the part is defective. *tr
2006 honda civic, air conditioner stopped working. was told by dealer that a pebble hit the condenser, not covered by warranty, charged $525 for repair. a quick search on the internet found several similar problems. this seems to be a design flaw that needs to be addressed. *tr
I have a 2006 honda civic which i had purchase in october 20 06, which i' had only for 8 months. i get in my vehicle to turn the air condition on, and on june 6, 2008 and found out that it only blew out hot air. i am very upset knowing that a vehicle which was not even a year old and because of some so call pebble that get up in the condenser which made it unable to function and on top of that for honda to be number one for good value with there cars. weren't his was an on going occuring problem with these civic why aren' they considered as a recall, because so many peopl had thiis problem and had to pay out of there pocket whichwas not their fault. *ak
I owned a 2006 honda civic, there was a problem where the air conditioner (a/c) condenser was located. it seemed that many people were experiencing this problem. the a/c in the car was not working, brought to honda, they told me that there was a hole in the condenser from road debris. this was a design issue and should be under warranty. therewas no protection on the grille. the grille was wide open.*ak
The 2006 civic air conditioner (a/c) stopped workingat only 16,000 miles. the dealer stated that the a/c condenser was punctured by road debris and that it was my responsibilty to pay the $575 for the repair. honda america avoided the issue, and stated the same. after reviewing internet forums it appeared that this was a major design flaw that the a/c condenser unit was not protected and was vulnerable to damage easily. i wasvery upset that honda had not acted with good business practices, and wastrying to avoid the matter. *ak
Ac not working - service department says condenser on my 06 civic was damaged by road hazard. *nm
On november 19th, 2007 i was coming home from work alone in my 2006 honda civic ex on a dirt road. i was not speeding and i was wearing my seatbelt. i chose a different route from my normal route and missed the s curve in the road. my car went to the ditch roughly 3 feet deep on the drivers side, hitting the drivers front, rolling the car one time, landing on the wheels and i put the brakes on, put the car in park and turned off the car. i then got out of the passenger side of the car because the driver side was smashed completely down not allowing me to get out of the car or the window. i could not find my cell phone and went and looked into the field and found where my car rolled and found the phone with the glass from my window. i then called 911 and waited for assistance. i was transported to sidney, ne where after a catscan they found that i had a broken neck in 2 places c6 and c7. they then transferred me by ambulance to fort collins, colorado where i had surgery to fuse the broken vertebrae. i am now out of work and out of a vehicle for now until i am healed. i called honda worried that none of the airbags went off, one of the reasons i bought this car was because of the safety rating because i wanted my family to be safe in any event of an accident. honda after i called them back 2 times finally told me that (case# n012007-11-2900916) honda does not design their airbags to go off in the event of a rollover. funny how when i did my research 1 out of 4 people are killed in a rollover. why wouldn't that be a safety concern?? so needless to say there is nothing done to fix the situation. *tr
I own a 2006 honda civic and last fall my ac stopped working. i took it to the dealer from which i purchased the vehicle and was told a pebble had gone through the open grill and damaged the condenser. they showed me the damage which is almost not noticeable. very light and certainly shouldn't be enough to cause the ac to stop working. this is poor design. there are numerous complaints on various websites about this problem. and, it seems, it is not confined to just the civic but with several honda vehicles. the dealer refused to cover under warranty and told me to go to my insurance company. hogwash. i'm not going to pay a high deductible or the $700 repair bill. i am going to fight honda on this one, and i hope other honda owners will step up to the plate. *nm
Honda common sense failure. honda places their air conditioner (a/c) condenser at the front of the vehicle with no protection, ie a screen to deflect pebbles, resulting in an easy target for pebbles to puncture the fragile condenser tube. this is obviously a widespread issue that honda is refusing to deal with. the service representative said that in his three years working for honda, he personally has dealt with about 100 of these failures. however. he did not see this as a problem and likened the failure to a chipped windshield. keep in mind that this is at a single dealership, with a single representative among several. during common, everyday, freeway driving, $657 damage should not be considered in the same category as a chipped windshield. the windshield is a protective device, and therefore deflecting pebbles and other road hazards is expected. i don't think the a/c condenser should fall under the same category as my former honda dealer has implied. nothing has been done to remedy this situation except to be recommended to make it an insurance claim or pay the $657 out of pocket. a $657 repair may be expected when buying a used vehicle, but when this sort of damage is sustained during everyday driving within the 1st year of purchasing a new vehicle and is not the result of negligence by the driver, it should absolutely not be tolerated. recall. *ak
Vehicle ac ceased working after approximately 9,000 miles. vehicle was brought to the dealership were purchased where it was diagnosed that a rock has made a hole in the ac condenser. both dealer and manufacturer acknowledged this was not an isolated incident but insisted that ?road hazard? (eg: rocks on the road) caused the component to fail. *jb
I was driving my brand new 2006 honda civic ex with less than 10,000 miles on it when the car all of a sudden dies. i was in the middle of traffic and the car just stops in the middle of the road with no warning. i tried to start the car but it just would not start. if i was on the freeway or going into a turn i believe that i could have been seriously injured or i could have injured someone else. took the car to the san francisco dealership (great dealership) and they said that the bolt tensioner broke, "how is it possible to break a bolt, it was very thick?". they replaced the bolt and water pumpthe ,car runs fine, but i still wory that that this can happen again at any time. *nm
I bought my 2006 honda civic lx in november 2005. in august 2008 the wear sensor on the front brakes were squealing and i had to have the brake pads replaced and the rotors machined at 8976 miles. i was told that because i live in a geographically hilly area that my brakes would wear sooner than other areas. i find this unusual, other cars that i have driven in the same area did not have this problem. since then i have had the front pads replaced and the rotors machined on 8/13/07 at 19,093 miles, on 6/2/08 at 27,878 miles and on 12/8/08 at 33,831 miles the pads had to be replaced again and i needed new rotors. i went to a different mechanic this time and they put on different pads which are still doing fine. i wrote to honda and spoke to a manager there and was told that this is a wear issue and there would be nothing they could do about it. i also feel that honda is not standing by the quality they used to. my sister has a 2001 honda civic and had her brake pads changed for the 1st time in 2008. *tr
Dt*: the contact stated the vehicles air conditioning ventilation blew hot air on the passenger side, whether the air conditioning was on. also, the odometer and the trip gauge did not keep the simultaneous mileage.
Have had issues with my tires and suspension since i bought the vehicle. there is a loud noise from the rear of the vehicle and vehicle vibrates when the speed is increased. i took my vehicle into mankato honda and they insisted that it was the tire company's responsibilities so the tire company replaced the tires and alignment was done. 10,000 miles later i returned with the same complaint, mankato honda would not help me so i went to bursville honda. they did help me, they checked my tires, replaced all four tires and alignment was done. bursville honda did not find anything wrong only uneven worn out tires. about every 10,000 to 15,000 miles i have to have all four tires need to be replaced. burnsville honda helped me 2 more times then the business was sold to walser honda. i returned to mankato honda and they showed me a service bulletin where it stated that it was found that 06-07 honda civic's had uneven or rapid tire wear, that would need to repair rear upper control arm kit and flange bolts. i returned to walser honda to have them do the replacement, now 10,000 miles later i am still having the same problems. i am frustrated and do not know what to do next! *tr
The radio antenna (located in the rear window defroster) is nothing but static. i live in a major metropolitan area and can not get one radio station to come in clearly. i've had the radio replaced and by the dealer when the car was under warranty with no luck. there is no static with cd's - only radio (fm mostly). wiring in rear defroster/radio is compromised. honda service dealerships have not been helpful in resolving this issue or informing me of what the issue was. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 honda civic .the contact stated that the speedometer is defective. the manufacturer was contacted and they just took her complaint. the vin number was not available. the failure mileage was 15 and the current mileage is 65000.
