Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2001 GMC Yukon

I heard a slight grinding noise, that sounded like a brake dragging. i replaced brakes all the way around, and that didn't stop the noise. i then replaced all the wheel bearings, this did not help either. i tried the u-joints with no luck. i was talking to the person that i got the vehicle from and was told that the rear end had been rebuilt twice! this was before i got the vehicle, and it only had 67000 on it when i got it. since then i have talked to many yukon owners, and they have had the same issues. *tr

2001 yukon transmission seal failed because of rough shifting, serpentine drive belt squeaks. vehicle leaked fuel consumer had to get a ride home while fire dept cleaned up spill. *ts a seal failed and coolant leaked into the transmission and destroyed it. the radiator seal failed. the head light lens was loose. *jb

The consumer experienced various steering, suspension and transfer case problems with her 2001 gmc yukon. *nm the cigarette lighter was hanging out. the dealer replaced the housing and element. the parking brake shoes were replaced. teflon grease was installed on driveshaft to alleviate the bumpiness in the rear. license plate light fogged up. the dealer replaced the lamp. the driveshaft was replaced along with the yoke at the rear u-joint. the consumer heard a clunking noise when putting the vehicle in reverse. the dealer determined that the transfer case chain had stretched. the dealer r and r the transfer case and replaced the chain. *nm

2001 yukon xl suv with 81182 miles on it. transmission made a popping sound (no forward gears, but reverse gears). suv has upgraded transmission that had a supposedly better model "front planet" part per gmc transmission specialist. that supposedly superior "front planet" split into (2) parts inside the transmission although it is one molded piece. resulting explosion of metal caused a $2703.52 transmission rebuild. i have the digital photos and the actual failed parts!*jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2001 gmc yukon. while driving 15 mph, the 4-wheel drive service indicator intermittently illuminates on the instrument panel. all 4-wheel drive power was completely lost in the vehicle. she took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the case shift control module failed. the failure has occurred four times since 2004. the dealer replaced the case shift control module each time the failure occurred; however, the contact believes it should not fail every 12 months. she believes that a recall should be issued and the manufacturer should be responsible for the repair. the failure mileage was 23,946 and current mileage was 72,000.

The vehicle was parked and not running, however the consmer was able to apply the shifter from park to drive as well as reverse. please fill in additional information. *jb the vehicle began to move in the off position when the key was not in the ignition due to the shifter moving from the park position. *tc

When driving at any speed vehicle would not go into overdrive. consumer took vehicle to the dealership for inspection, and mechanic determined that transmission failed. *ak

Multiple failures with 2001 yukon. dashboard light, air bag and computer malfunctioned. problems starting after accelerating. *bf the vehicles computer malfunctioned causing dashboard lights, airbag, l.e.d, and brake lights to turn on. the speedometer froze. when the consumer would press on the gas pedal the vehicle would not respond properly. this problem happens spuractically. *tc

The transmission pump failed causing the vehicle to almost stall in traffic while attempting a left-hand turn, the consumer is requesting that the dealer replace the transmission with a new one instead of retro-fitting the existing. nlm

Multiple failures; a/c odors, door lock, suspension alignment and brakes. *bf there were problems with the following: weather strip was loose, the a/c blew warm, the belts squeaked, there was a mildew odors, the window regulator, the front seat belt squeaked, the door panel, the steering wheel rattled, drive shaft, accelerator pedal, the wipers were noisy, the hinge pin on the radio was loose, engine noises, a/c drain would not drain at times until the passenger door was closed/water lead and caused by the left front floorboard. recall#01v159000, 02v253000, 03v094000. *sc
