We have classified the 5 complaints from 2004 GMC Sierra 2500HD about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
My truck is a work truck driven by an employee, i have just recently become aware of a condition regarding the instrument cluster, wherein the whole panel does not work, i was advised by the employee that this happened quite some time ago, but was never made aware. i contacted gmc but apparently, because this is considered a special policy recall (only if someone complains - and within a specified time period 7 yrs or 80,000 miles) they will not repair this defect. i never received a notice, nor was i aware of the problem within that time period. i was further informed by my worker that at the time the panel went out, the fan for the heater/air condition unit appeared to smoke and now it does not work. here again, i have not received any recall notices for this defect either. finally, in my attempts to get the cluster repaired, i have been informed that there is a recall on the hydro boost accumulator... i have not once received a recall notice on this vehicle and i purchased this vehicle new. my vehicle has 101,000 miles on it. you would think that a vehicle of this nature would last longer than 100,000. but apparently not... also, when these is such a major recall out on a vehicle you would think that gmc would contact you and advise you of this problem.. *tr
2004 gmc sierra slt duramax 2500hd. 92,000 miles. well -maintained. with no warning speedometer read forty miles too low. we thought we were entering the freeway at 60, while in fact we were going 20. we almost got rammed by a truck. it is illegal to go 20 on an interstate. this required speedometer cluster replacement costing $529. gm refused any coverage of the cost. i suggested they cover half the cluster part, $175. their customer service said, "no." if there is a safety issue, this would be it! i understand there are several lawsuits regarding these speedometers. our vin is on their "silent recall" list. national highway safety traffic administration should be responsible for issuing open ended recalls for safety items such as these. the mission is to protect the public? *tr
2004 gmc sierra speedometer reading fluxuates intermittently, showing incorrect speed. this began to occur at 54,000 miles. *tr
The speedometer unexpectedly stopped working on my 2004 gmc sierra 2500 hd as i was driving down i-4. it was registering 65mph one minute, then the next 0 mph. this originally happened approximately 1 1/2 years ago. i contacted my dealer where i purchased the vehicle. t that time, i had approximately 69000 miles on the vehicle. he told me to try and restarting it and it should start working right again. which it did. it has continued to act up since and is becoming more frequent. the dealer now tells me that its is the instrument cluster and needs to be replaced. this is a hazard as when it stops working, i have know idea as to my speed. it is my understanding that this is a know problem by gm and they offered a extended fix option, but did not notify gm owners of this hazard. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 2500. the contact stated that the speedometer did not function properly and it would indicate a faster speed than he was actually driving. the oil pressure gauge also malfunctioned. the contact previously replaced both driver and passenger side carrier bearings that are associated with the four wheel drive. the contact was able to elevate the vehicle and move the wheel about a half inch in both directions. the vehicle had not been inspected when the complaint was filed. the contact called the manufacturer but was offered no assistance. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact confirmed that the vehicle was a 2005 model produced in 2004; however, the vin displayed that the vehicle was a 2004. the current mileage was approximately 150,000. the failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
Speedometer gives crazy readings and never gives accurate speeds. cost to repair is $450 to replace the whole gauge cluster. i have seen hundreds of people reporting this problem on the local discussion boards. gm should fix this instead of making money off of defective parts. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 2500 hd. while driving 55 mph, the vehicle began smoking near the glove box. the plastic coating on the wires began dripping, melting, and sparking. the vehicle then became engulfed in flames and was destroyed. a police and fire report was filed. the contact has pictures. the mileages were unknown.
The speedometer does not always zero out after the vehicle comes to a stop and the oil pressure gauge goes to zero while driving. *tr
I have a 2004 gmc 2500hd and the speedometer cluster is all failing so no gauges are starting to work. *jb
My vehicle had brake lines replace two times with less than 65,000 miles because breaks stop working. fuel line replaced under 55,000 miles because it made check engine light come on speedometer erratic, oil pressure gauge high and low, fuel gauge erratic under 65,000 miles. loud noise from engine service technician reported the exhaust manifold bolts has broken to call a white smoke from the motor. everything happened with consider to be low mileage in talking to gm they don't care because enough report has not been made.
Tachometer gauge rides all over, had transmission checked, okay. had a scan done, no engine or transmission codes, overdrive does not release when tachometer gauge is erratic, on scan, rpm is normal at about 700, while tachometer shows apprximately 3750 rpm.being told by chevrolet dealer perhaps a dashboard cluster panel. about $400.00. this truck only has 48,000 miles on it.*ak
Speedometer shows incorrect readings. at times it will show over 100mph while at normal highway speeds. other times it will read around 60 while driving at least 80 -90 (from rate of passing other drivers on highway). this is a very dangerous situation. apparently gm will repair at no cost but only if less than 70k miles. this vehicle began to show problem around 74k miles. *tr
Instrument display panel specifically the speedometer is now frozen at 120 mph. it happened at just under 60k miles on the vehicle. i had received notice that they would repair but now have to many miles on the vehicle. the cap on mileage is approximately 70k. im happy to know that this part of the vehicle has nothing to do with safety. gmc wanting some $500 - $600. dollars to fix this is the real issue. the 2004 chevy i own as well did the exact same thing. no problem here is there? *tr
