Tl* the contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra 2500 hd. the contact stated while driving approximately 10 mph, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard when depressed. the vehicle eventually came to a stop and was taken to an independent mechanic. the technician diagnosed that both rear brake lines were corroded and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not notified of the defect. the approximate failure mileage was 150,000. updated 08/12/2014*lj
Took truck to dealer for other work and they reported to me the line was leaking and about to rupture. i have 2 jeep products , both in the late 80's with original brake lines and they are fine. you would think that a "younger vehicle would be up to the task of lasting longer than 9 yrs. i've owned older cars and trucks and have never seen anything like this, even my 1964 chevy c-10 didn't have this problem and i sold it in 1991 . a co-worker bought my old chevy and at the 30 year mark for it, the brake lines were fine. i believe that along with the manufacture the government should be held accountable also, they allow this subpar equipment on the roads and highways to carry our kids and families, do you think obama's kids would be subjected to danger in this manner. if the director of nhtsa had a failure of this caliber he or she'd be all over this demanding and enforcing a recall . *js
Driving down driveway brake pedal went to floor ran into snow bank unable to stop. *tr
I was traveling down the road at approx ~30 miles an hour approaching an intersection with a red light. i went to apply the brakes, the pedal depressed with no resistance and no braking response. i applied the brakes harder, with pedal all the way down and received light brake response, enough to stop the vehicle just short of the intersection. i took the truck to an ase-certified napa auto center, where the diagnosis was that the brake lines were completely corroded, as well as the emergency brake cables. the corrosion of the brake lines/cable resulted in significant loss of brake fluid, and rendered the emergency brake useless. the total cost of repair is upwards of $1800.00 there was no advanced warning of this failure--no warning lights appeared before or after the failure. this could have been catastrophic and feel that this is a design, assembly or materials flaw that puts public safety at risk. *tr
Many components under the truck are severely rusted. two brake lines failed in august 2011 due to rust. the rest are ready to fail soon. the power steering line rusted out this month (december). rust at sensors of abs system causes erratic abs operation. *tr
Brake lines are all corroded and rusty. *tr
Hydraulic brakes failed without warning while driving on a back road pulling the trailer with a 500 lb mower in the trailer. brake fluid poured from the behind the driver door under from the frame near the fuel filter and brake line distribution block. front brake lines replaced one year ago after an accident where the brakes also failed and front brake lines replaced. 2003 gmc sierra 2500 4wd with about 40k mileage. brake failure has occurred twice with this vehicle...i have another car, dodge grand caravan with 97k and no brake line problems. stays in the same driveway and drives the same roads. *tr
Rupture brake line above gas tank just applying depressing the brake pedal causing one brake line to rupture from rust. *tr
While applying brakes in traffic brake pedal went to floor and truck would not stop. brake line underneath vehicle was corroded and burst, causing brake fluid leak. *tr
Fortunately i was in my driveway when my brake pedal went to the floor. i had it towed and the mechanic replaced a line. he went for a road test and another line blew out. this was fixed and i was told that all of the lines look bad and it would be $700 to replace all and this seemed to be common on the chevy and gmc trucks. this truck is garage kept - why would all of the brake lines be bad? this is a gmc sierra 2500hd extended cab 4wd truck. *tt
The brakes failed when i tried to stop. the truck was taken a auto repair shop. they told me the brake lines had failed due to rust. the brake lines from the master cylinder and the hydraulic pump had to be replaced. the brake lines from the hydraulic pump and the front wheels had to replaced also. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra 2500 hd. the contact stated that while attempting to maneuver a boat into the water, the brakes failed to engage. the vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic who stated that the complete brake line was corroded. the brake lines were replaced at the contacts expense. the contact stated that this was the second time the brake lines were replaced. the failure mileage was 47,583 and the current mileage was 52,566. updated 09/29/10. *lj updated 10/13/10/*lj the dealer found three brake lines rusted severely. updated 10/19/10*jb
Both front abs sensors failed due to corrosion, causing increased stopping distance. *tr
I was driving my '03 gmc sierra 2500hd on a highway at approximately 65mph, when i had to slow down, to avoid hitting a vehicle slowing down in front of me. i stepped on the brakes, no harder than i normally would, and the pedal went all the way to the floor, with very little to no stopping action from the brakes. i was able to slow down by downshifting the automatic transmission and using the emergency brake to stop, while pulling onto the shoulder. my truck had to be towed to a repair shop, where it was determined that the rear brake line along the drivers' side frame rail had ruptured due to corrosion. my emergency brake assembly also had to be replaced due to excessive rust on it, as well as defective brake shoes. the total cost to repair the brake line came to approximately $450.00, and the emergency brake replacement came to around $900.00. the rest of the brake lines are also very corroded, and should be replaced. i was quoted a price of $1,450 to replace the remaining brake lines on the truck. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra 2500. the contact stated that when applying the brakes, the brake pedal was depressed to the floorboard. the contact then discovered that the brake lines were rusted. the dealer was not informed and the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where the vehicle was repaired. the current mileage was 70,000 and the approximate failure mileage was 21,000.
When i apply my brakes they release themselves just as if i let off the pedal and i have to press harder to stop. this does not happen every time but when it does it's scary. this has been going on since oct. of 2006 and still doing so. is there a recall on this ? *jb
Started feeling less braking power and squealing at 25000 miles on the odometer. took truck to dealer to check it , found rear brakes to be 100% wore out. rear rotors are flaking apart. *jb
