Recently reported FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE problems on 2005 GMC Envoy

2005 gmc envoy gas gauge shows empty with low fuel light on even when the tank is full. check engine light is on all the time. *tr

Gas gauge not working properly. *tr

Fuel sensor started messing up, not reading gas correctly. now if will not move when gas is filled up. *tr

Defective fuel gauge that swings between full and empty - this is the second time this occurred with this vehicle. the first required a replacement of the in tank sending unit. *tr

2005 envoy, fuel gauge suddenly became erratic, reading empty when tank was full. initially, after filling tank, fuel gauge would continue to read empty until driven approximately 20-25 miles. now rarely reads above empty. gas gauge is now completely ineffective, high likelihood of running the car out of gas in a dangerous situation. *tr

When i fill it completely full with gas on my 2005 envoy it says that its empty. i have to drive almost 50 miles or more for it to register right. also one time when i was backing out of a parking stall it just quit not very safe i could have been hit by another car. *tr

Fuel gauge does not work. *tr

Fuel light stays on and warning sound continues after filling up. the gas gauge stays on and the warning signal continues to chime after filling up the gas tank. *tr

Never had fuel gauge problems before, filled my tank, drove away from gas station and within one mile, the fuel bell went off and the warning light turned on. went back to gas station thinking i had been ripped off, but owner showed me on gas pump that it had pumped $60 worth of gas. now the fuel gauge doesn't work at all, the warning light is always on. i've been given quotes to fix it ranging from $400 to $600. with all these problems, gm should issue a recall and fix for everyone free. *tr

Fuel gauge not working correct ran out of gas. *tr

My 2005 gmc envoy gas gauge began to become erratic in november of 09. at that time it would work some times and not others. after a few weeks it stopped working in any manner and constantly fluctuates up and down, causing the low fuel indicator to go on and off. this occurs even when the vehicle has just been filled with gas and the gas cap tightened. the only way to monitor gas at this time is through tracking mileage. vehicle will randomly stall when idle. the stalling is noted to be occurring more frequently the longer this goes unrepaired. stalling at lights, in parking lots and while backing up puts us at risk of being hit by another vehicle. also the inability to accurately monitor the amount of gas in the vehicle puts myself and my family at risk of being stranded while traveling. the only other person i know with this same make and model has the same problem. correction is replacement of the part which is between $600 and $800. *tw

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 gmc envoy. the contact stated that the fuel gauge would display an empty reading when the fuel tank was full. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who stated that the sensor in the fuel tank was defective and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact back to a dealer. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 41,000 and the current mileage was 63,000.

I thought my vehicle had a unique problem, after recently being taken advantage of by gmc + their dealer, i have done some research and realize the problem is widespread. the electronic gas gauge + needle stopped working at 90 000. i received a letter stating they would pay for half the repair to the fuel level sensor and i took the vehicle to be repaired on 10/20/11.waited all day and watched the mechanic test drive my vehicle,i was walked to the cashier + paid 146.14, pulled out of parking lot and thought they forgot to reset the computer as gauge + dash were not working.i immediately returned and was told the sensor was working but there was a problem with the cluster panel + that would cost 900.00.this is a major safety hazard and gmc should own up to the defect and recall the vehicles affected. i've run out of gas on several occasions, once on the highway with small children at night. *tr

Same problem everybody else is having with there envoys, floating fuel needle, now my check engine light is on which occasionally will go off, but now i can't pass emission inspection because my check engine happens to be on, and now i am forced to get the problem fixed in order to pass inspection. thanks gm, just what i need a week before christmas. only 60,00 miles on car and i have to deal with this. could possibly be last gm car bought in this house. *tr

Instrument panel fuel level indicator shows incorrectly. at first it would show half tank or more when in fact there was less gas. now the fuel level indicator shows empty at all times. the audible fuel warning for low fuel also rings constantly. after running out of gas in the middle of nowhere on several occasions the vehicle was taken in to the local dealership. the repair was too costly. we were however charged a $100 fee just for the gmc dealer to look at it. we now track fuel using the trip computer. look online for some help i was amazed to find out that many, many, many people have and are having the same issue. *tr

I just purchased this vehicle knowing the gauge did not work. the info i have posted is info from the individual i purchased it from. he just set the fuel used option to keep track. *tr

Fuel gauge issues *cn

Fuel sensor no longer works on vehicle. although this doesn't appear to be a safety issue per se, its a manufacturing defect with the vehicle that gmc has recognized however they continue to put stipulations around vehicles that have this issue that they are willing to fix. for example, the vehicle must be under 10yrs of age or under 120,000 miles whichever comes first. this is ridiculous. i think that gmc should be required to fix this known problem regarding of how many miles or years of age is on the vehicle. *tr

The gas gauge stopped working and shows that the vehicle is on empty. the "low fuel' indicator on the dash will blink randomly and "ding" to draw my attention to it. the gas cap was replaced a week later but the problem has not been resolved. it continues to read "empty." since then the speedometer has also stopped working. the speedometer hand has completely dropped below the 120 mph mark, although for a few weeks it would register that i was driving much faster than the speed of traffic around me. moreover, it would register 30 mph when the vehicle was completely stopped. yet, it has since stopped working altogether. the vehicle has also recently stalled in reverse and several times has surged/accelerated quickly when i am driving slowly and push the gas pedal to accelerate. i have an appointment with the local gmc dealership and have called the national gmc dealer to document my complaint(s). *tr

When i fill up my 2005 gmc envoy with gas the fuel gauge stays on e, sometimes it will eventually go up to 1/4 tank but always drops back down. this creates a problem because i never really know when my tank is empty, always guessing on when i need to fill up. i have gone to the dealership and they told me it would be about $600 to fix, it is not a warranty issue and not a recall. after doing some research on the internet it appears like this is a big problem and i feel like gmc should do a recall to fix this. this is not a "normal" wear and tear issue on a fairly new vehicle. *tr

In reference to dp10-001. i have a 2005 gmc envoy that has an erratic gas gauge as well. after re-fueling the vehicle, the gauge will go to empty and illuminate the empty tank warning light. after driving about 20 miles, the gauge will return to the full position, but will fluctuate occasionally. i have had the problem diagnosed as possible faulty sending unit, faulty gauge and faulty sensors on the fuel pump assembly. *tr

This problem noted below is very very common in both chevy trailblazers and gmc envoys. here's one link with over 200 descriptions of this same problem. http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/chevrolet-trailblazer/th8ji6tepo3vrji3d please investigate this issue. it is very widespread and has potential to be dangerous due to cars stalling out in the middle of traffic. i know personally as mine has. please read on.thank you for you help! 1.) fuel gauge started fluctuating when gas tank is filled. for two weeks gauge would start to move towards empty when in fact tank is full. then gauge does not work at all or shows empty most of the time, then gauge moves slightly above the point where low fuel light illuminates and the low fuel warning dings frequently as it fluctuates between empty and less than a 1/4 tank. 2.) my envoy stopped running in middle of highway traffic. the check engine light came on, i had to coast to shoulder in 5 o'clock traffic in southern california. car did start again after a few minutes computer reset. 3.) i have my car at the shop now. initial code indicates fuel pump issue. from reading all of the posted complaints this is an issue that should be addressed with a recall. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 gmc envoy. the contact stated that the fuel gauge displayed erratic readings. when the fuel tank was empty, the fuel gauge would indicate that fuel was present in the tank. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who stated that they would have to replace the fuel sensor. there were no recalls or warranties addressing this failure. the manufacturer was not notified. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 70,000. the vin was unknown.

In july of 2009, my fuel gauge stopped working, it was reading empty all the time. even after a fill up. i went to the dealer and they told me that the fuel sensor was not working any more. they would have to drop the fuel tank and replace the sensor. the dealer stated that it wasn't necessary to fix. so i have been getting gas every 300 miles. today i took the car in for a oil change and was told that the fuel sensor problem was putting a strain on my computer for the car. the computer controls everything in the car. that eventually i would be paying a lot more if something happens to the computer.

The fuel gauge does not work. it reads empty and the gas light comes on after getting gas. the gauge moves up and down while driving for a few days after getting gas. i had the dealer fix this in 02/08. it is already broken again. *tr

Fuel level sensor, when filling tank, gauge goes to empty, fuel gauge is unreliable, i'm afraid of running out of gas on the freeway in traffic. *tr

Fuel level sensor, when filling tank, guage goes to empty, fuel gauge is unreliable, i'm afraid of running out of gas on the freeway in traffic.

2005 gmc envoy gas gauge does not work. car had 42000 miles when it quit. car now has 50200 miles on it. gas gauge reads empty and sometimes will float just above empty even with a full tank of gas. car has left family along side road while waiting for help. should be a recall as there is thousands of complaints on this issue. *tr updated 02/01/10 *bf updated 02/02/10.*jb

Inaccurate fuel gauge reading. car can run out of gas unless carefully monitored by operator. gauge became faulty with time when car was 3.5 years old. at first when tank was filled, the empty light would come on and then suddenly register as full after approximately 20 miles of operation. gauge now only registers 1/4th tank or not at all after tank is filled. without careful watch, the car could run out of gas on a highway and be struck or cause significant problems. dealer estimated cost of repair = $650.00 and stated that it was a common problem for this make and model. i do not wish to pay this exorbitant amount for repair. it appears from my research that this is a very dangerous problem and rampant with this make and model. *tr

A fuel gauge stopped working. i had to pay to have the gmc dealer replace the fuel level sensor.

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 gmc envoy. the contact stated that the fuel gauge fluctuates while driving various speeds. the dealer stated that the fuel pump sensor failed and the fuel pump needed to be replaced. the manufacturer stated that she would be responsible for the repair costs since there were no recalls. the failure mileage was 46,000. updated 06/24/09. *lj updated 06/26/09.*jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 gmc envoy. while driving 25 mph, the contact noticed that the low fuel light was illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact drove to a gas station to fill up the tank; however, the vehicle would only take $10 worth of fuel. the contact is in the process of taking the vehicle to the dealer for inspection and notifying the manufacturer. the failure mileage was 41,000 and current mileage was 42,000.

I have a 2005 gmc envoy that is having a known problem with the gas gauge and the sender unit. apparently numerous customers have been experiencing this issue on their gm suvs and there has been no recall to fix this issue. there needs to be a recall so customers are having to foot the bill for the manufacturers faulty workmanship. *tr

Fuel pump not reading gasoline levels causing the gauge in the dash not to work and be on empty at all times. fuel light also stays on. *tr

At 65,000 miles the fuel gauge failed without warning. gauge dropped to empty immediately after a fill and has since remained there. nothing has been done to correct the problem as i was told by the local gmc dealer it was out of warranty, it was not covered under past fuel gauge recalls, and i refuse to reward gmc for supplying faulty product by paying the quoted $800-$1000 to replace it. the safety consequences of running out of fuel are extensive, from slowing and being rear ended to being hit alongside the road while going for gas. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 gmc envoy. the contact experienced several failures with the fuel gauge in her vehicle. after filling up the vehicle with gasoline, the fuel gauge indicated that the vehicle was empty. after driving on the interstate at an unknown speed, the fuel gauge began to display the correct fuel level. the contact stated that the fuel gauge displays incorrect information during inner city driving. however, once on the interstate, the gauge operates normally after driving for a couple of miles. the manufacturer advised her to take the vehicle to the dealer for inspection. the failure mileage was 68,500 and current mileage was 69,387.

I have a 2005 gmc envoy that has just started having issues with the fuel gauge. i have filled the gas tank and the gauge reads empty with the fuel light on. then 10 minutes later the light goes out and it reads that i do have fuel. then a little later it starts going down and reads empty again. i have re-stopped to get gas to find that the tank is full. this is wrong and there should be a recall on this item. it draws the driver's attention away from driving and must have caused accidents somewhere in the usa. *tr

Gas gauge stopped working. this has also happened on three other gm suv's (1999-2005 model years) in my family. coincidence? no way. there should be a recall. this is a very expensive repair and one consumers should not have to pay for. i have not seen this happen on any other vehicle that i or any member of my family has driven (vw, chrysler, honda, subaru, jeep) but that the same part has failed on four gm suv's in the same family tells me that this is a wide-spread problem and there is a defect in this part. *tr

Faulty fuel level sensor does not work, indicating incorrect levels of gas available in vehicle. this has been an ongoing problem for the last two years.

Gas gauge no longer working on a 2005 envoy with only 75,000 miles. *tr

Fuel gage no longer works on my 2005 gmc envoy. which from reading blogs means i need a new sending unit, float, and fuel pump. have found many blogs on-line about this very problem with envoys and trailblazers. *tr

One day when i filled my gas tank up the gas gauge still showed that my tank was empty. it since then has not worked correctly it goes from empty to half full and so forth, when no fuel has even been added. definitely can't trust it or you will be walking home. i feel that the manufacturer should correct this problem. i have read many complaints stating this exact same problem. *tr

Hello, i purchased a 2005 envoy denali last year. right after i got the vehicle the fuel leveling sensor came on (i think 1 of every 2 get this problem and still no recall). i let it go but now its time for inspection! well with the light on it cannot be inspected and they are charging me with what they said could be well over $700. i was doing some research and found this site of many http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/chevrolet-trailblazer/th8ji6tepo3vrji3d/p2 of people who are having this same problem. i wish they would stand by there product and have a recall of this because its really a huge problem if i've ever seen one. i am not saying this just because i have this problem but many many people do. do a ebay list for an envoy and i guarantee you that you'll see almost half if they show you the dash board has this problem. i did nothing wrong but fill up my tank and i got this error. let me know if anything in the near future will be done. my inspection is almost up and its a must to get done! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 gmc envoy. the contact stated that the fuel gauge failed. the contact ran out of gas while the fuel gauge displayed inaccurately that the fuel tank was half full but was actually empty. the contacts mechanic inspected the vehicle and advised that the tank and sensor would need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 19,000 and the current mileage was 31,000.

I started the vehicle one day and the fuel gauge failed to work. it is a continuous fail. nothing has been done to repair it. cost of part is approximately $280 at local napa store. *tr

I have a 2005 envoy se and have been having problems with my gas gauge for the past year. currently the vehicle has 80000 miles on it. the problem is with the gas gauge and it will not work any longer. it seems as if lost pressure and will not read how much gas i have in the vehicle. when i fill up, it will stay on empty and will not move. at times, it will go from empty to about half tank for a few minutes and then it will drop all the way back down to empty. *tr

In 2008 the gas gauge to my 2005 gmc envoy stopped working. i would fill up the tank and the reader would not move at all. it always showed empty. i took it to a mechanic and they told me it would cost $900 to fix. i ran out of gas several times on the freeway and streets. this is very dangerous. are these no recalls for this issue? seems like alot of other owners are having the same issue. *tr
