The rear window on my 2004 gmc envoy xl sle has shattered on closing for the second time in three weeks. i have contacted the gm dealer in our area and he denies that there have been any other problems like this with this vehicle make. it is january and the cold could be a factor; however, searches on the internet have revealed that this has happened to others in warmer climates as well. *tr

Gauge cluster including speedometer failure

This past weekend 08-23-08 and 08-24-08. the analog dash cluster went out on my 2004 gms envoy. when it went out i mean completely out no tach, speed or and or the gauges worked. this happened while i was driving. i took the vehicle to the dealership right away. it was checked and confirmed that the dash cluster was not getting any power. this can be a safety hazard for the reason being if it where to happen while driving like it did to me. it could be a contributing factor in an accident. not know how fast one is going can be very dangerous. there is a new dash cluster on order which should be installed by wednesday 08-27-08. *tr

Events that have lead up to the failure i believe is poor engineering of the product. i have a 2004 envoy xl that has the drivers' side power sear and lumbar compressor switch set on the side of the seat. the switches are surrounded by a than large piece of hard plastic. the way it is arranged on the seat no matter how a person get out of the vehicle; pressure is pushed down onto the plastic seat switch cover. i have replaced this product twice now within the past year and a half. the first time it cost me from 65 to 85 dollars to replace a .50 cent piece of plastic. i was told it had a twelve month warranty. within 3 to 6 months the same thing happened; my wife got out of the vehicle and the seat control switch plate fell to the ground. when i took it back to the dealer for the second time, the service manager asked the problem and when i told him about the switch control cover falling off again; the person stated, " i bet you are driving an envoy aren't you?" he then said those were a bad design for that model and pop off all the time. well after replacing the product under the warranty that covered the first one i replaced (bought), i asked does the 12 month warranty start over for the new product? he said no, and if it comes off again, and it will; you will have to buy the next cover plate again. that is wrong!!! if it is generally know throughout the gm service departments a problem exists why does the customer have to continue to pay??? oh by the way, the plastic seat control cover did pop off again for the third time about 1 month ago, so i have engineered it with zip ties that are bright enough when the door is open for people to see what type of product gm actually builds. *jb

I purchased a 2004 envoy with 18,000 miles in the summer of 2006. beginning in january 2007, my 3 year old son let me know that he was cold while riding in the back seat and begged that i turn off the air. turns out that the vent in the back of the car was blowing ice cold air on my son. the temperature outside was approximately 10 degrees. i called and scheduled a time to take my car into the dealership, as it was still under warranty. i found out that the vehicle had a "bulletin" stating that gmc was familiar that there was heat failure in the back of the cars, but the company was choosing not to do a full recall. instead, they were waiting for customers to discover the problem and bring it in for repair. they had to install a special pump, however, this still did not fix the problem. instead, it just modified the temperature of the air from approximately 20 degrees to maybe 50 degrees. not a lot of comfort in a minnesota winter. i was informed that bottom line, it was a design flaw with the vehicle, and that i could just try to force the air from the front of the car to the back seat. what is the point of having vents in the back of the car, and having a separate heating element specifically for the back of the car? i purchased this car because i thought that with the vents in the back, it would help heat the car faster in the winter, helping to keep my son warm. i do not believe that heat should be a luxury, and am disappointed that gmc would not do more to correct the problem. i want it to be known to the general public that this is a problem in the envoy and trailblazer, especially for families with small children who do not have a voice to let their parents know the icy air blowing on them. *nm

Front braking problem with 2004 gmc envoy xl. problem has occurred after each time a repair attempt has been made by gmc problem is front squealing of brake systems. *jb

Driver seat malfunctions, it jams and i can not get it unjammed. the dealership replaced the belt. 7 days later it jammed again. dealer said they will not fix it again. they say it is over spooling. the seat belt needs to work at all times. state law requires a seat belt on to drive. when it jams i can not drive.

The bumper jack is unsafe. when jacked to its full height under a load, the jack's cork screw moves, misalign itself, from the jack's body. therefore, you are unable to screw it back into its body due to the misalignment. in order to remove the jack, i had to drive off of it. *ak
