Shift to park warning light turns on when car is in park. headlights stay on.
Car gives a "action required, shift to park" and does not turn off although you have put the car in park. you have to put the car into reverse or drive and move it back to park multiple times before it senses it is in park and before it will let you turn off the vehicle. the car was stationary every time this happened in a parking spot.
2017 gmc acadia would issue a warning saying vehicle failed to shift to park even though the vehicle was in park. this vehicle defect is known by gmc and their dealerships. a lawsuit is currently pending regarding this issue. gmc has failed to issue a recall and has failed to resolve the issue. we took our vehicle to the local gmc dealership august 2018 due to the issue. the issue started again in november 2019. when we called about it, they said the prior work wasn't covered and we would have to pay to have the "known defect" repaired again.
The vehicle states to 'shift to park' but the vehicle is in park already. the vehicle will not turn off and keeps the battery running. i must start up the car and shift it to drive, then pack to park multiple times before the car recognizes it is in park. this happens every time, but the amount of time it takes to turn on and off to reach 'park' is random.
Vehicle will not shift properly to park when turning the vehicle off. this causes the problem of moving when attempting to turn off the vehicle.
Car continues to tell you to shift to park after it has been placed in park. the car will not allow you to lock or exit the vehicle. to remedy you must shake the gear shift, or wait a period of time, start the car, place in drive and shift back to start. sometimes, you have to do this several times before the car will realize it is in park.
Shift to park problem, the dealer tried fixing it 3 times now and having a problem with the wheel. when sometimes turning the car. i can feel something is like stock on tge wheel making me feel like the wheel is gonna get off. i trued contacting the dealer and chevy office for a buyback but they aren't approving it cos they said i dont have enough reason for them to approve it. even tho i keep telling them i am not gonna wait for anything bad to happen since i have a 5 month old baby with me. tge obly thing they suggesting is having it checked. and that's it.
Shift to park warning comes on 3 times in 5 days. car won't turn on or off for short period.
Upon stopping vehicle and shifting in to park i get a 'shift to park' notification on the drivers' information screen although the vehicle is in park. sometimes it takes several attempts of shifting from and back to park for the screen to clear.
When car is parked. a message pops up to put the car in park, even though it is in park. this prevents me from locking my doors! it dings, honks, etc because message when out in park message is on!
2017 gmc acadia has 'shift to park' error for the last 6 mths. will not acknowledge the car is in park and will not turn car off completely. it has caused other issues with the car like battery/car hesitating to start in the morning. also the radio/bluetooth not disconnecting after turning car off. you have. this is a long process to get the car to realize it is in park. after turning car on and off, shifting car out of park and back into park. and also wiggling the shift gear. this after knowing it is an on hoing issue for well over a year is still not a recall and they still have not made a fix for this.
Tl* the contact's father owns a 2017 gmc acadia. while the contact's father was making a right turn, the front passenger side tire bent inwardly into the wheel well. as a result, the vehicle crashed into a curb. the vehicle received body damage. the air bags did not deploy. there were no injuries and a police report was filed. the vehicle was towed to a certified mechanic who diagnosed that the driveshaft fractured and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. summit chevrolet buick gmc (located at 318 grant ave, auburn, ny 13021, 315-258-2000) was contacted and informed the contact of nhtsa campaign number: 17v516000 (power train), but the vin was not included. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 17,000.
The "shift to park" message comes on after i park the car. i have to wiggle the gear shift back and forth to get it to go off or the car stays on electronically. the door locks go on/off (and up and down) while driving (purportedly due to the car going in and out of park while driving) which is a major safety concern. because it's out of warranty (47,000 miles) my dealership said it would be $700-$800 to fix the problem although gmc has put out a bulletin to tell the dealerships how to fix it. this should be a recall due to safety concerns. if the car isn't reading it's in park, it could roll and cause injury and damage. this has happened pretty regularly for 2 weeks going on 3 weeks.
Vehicle states, 'shift to park,' when trying to turn off engine when it is already in park. turn vehicle back on and have to shift multiple times out and then back into park before car will recognize it is in fact in park to shut down entire engine. have replaced battery once already. vehicle is stationary and foot is on break when trying to turn car off. has been happening since purchase but, just got fed up with it.
My 2017 gmc acadia has a "shifter" problem. i put the car in park but i get an error message that states "shift to park" and the car doesn't completely turn off even though you turn the car off physically. some electronics stay on like the radio and headlights. you cannot completely shut the car down - again - even when you physically turn the car off. the car is in park and stopped.
I am getting a message shift to park! on 2017 gmc acadia after putting my vehicle in park unable to lock car and lights and radio remain on. it took me more than an hour to get my vehicle to stop displaying message. i am very concerned and appalled at the same time upon investigating i have discovered gmc is aware of this problem and does not have a fix for it. i really wished it would have been revealed and i could have chosen another vehicle that is very bad business practices my vehicle is only two years old and i am still making payments.
When putting the vehicle into park, an error is displayed stating to shift the vehicle into park, even though the shifter is in p. in order to get this message to go away, i have to move the shifter up and down multiple times. could take up to 20 min to get the error to go away. i can not leave the vehicle until the error is off because the lights stay on and will drain the battery. i also notice that the vehicle rolls a little more after multiple attempts to get error message off. this is concerning that it may not realize its in park and roll into another vehicle causing damage to both or roll away. i took to my dealer and was told this is a 'known' issue and is not covered under warranty, nor is there a recall. i just paid out of pocket for new tires because gm knew the tires placed were 'wearing' too soon based on mileage. now, i am being told i will have to pay about $600 to get this fixed. gm knows of issues and not fixing them is wrong. this is not a new issue, has been listed as complaints for the past year, yet gm has done nothing to fix and continue to make the vehicle with the same issues. frustrating that i have to spend the money to fix an issue they know about! this needs pushed back to gm to hold them accountable and make this right. the shifter issue should be a recall and fixed.
2017 acadia is displaying 'shift to park' message when the car is in park. i have to turn the car off and on and shift to other gears and back to park upwards of 5/10 times pretty much every time i try to turn the car off.
Upon turning my ignition off, the "shift to park" warning message appears, even though the display shows that i am in "p" and the brake is on. when i took it to the dealership,i got out of the car and pointed to the message on my display. before the technician even looked into my car, he asked "shift to park"? so obviously this is a well known problem with this gmc repair center. my frustration is that if it is a known defect, why do i have to pay to have it fixed?
I reported a problem over a year ago, and despite several trips to the dealer, the problem has gotten worse. the vehicle seems to shift to neutral while shifting from 2nd to 3rd gears. this results in a very harsh shift. the main safety issue is that while you are trying to accelerate, your vehicle goes into neutral and you nearly stop. not only have i been slammed into my seat when it finally catches in the next gear, but i've almost been rear ended multiple times. it is very dangerous. the dealer claims it's "doing what its suppose to".
When parking the vehicle and attempting to shut off, the acadia gives the message "shift to park". the vehicle is clearly in park and i must start the vehicle again and shift to reverse or another position and turn off. the vehicle will not allow me to lock the vehicle and keeps power to the vehicle (draining the battery) until it recognizes that it is indeed in park. this has caused a stall and the vehicle to possibly still be in gear when parked leading to a rolling hazard. has taken as many as 15 times for the vehicle to realize it is in park. general motors has issued a tsb (18-na-297) regarding this issue, but is placing the cost of the fix on the consumer. this is a defective piece of equipment that has started a class action lawsuit.
When vehicle is shifted into park information center says vehicle is not in park and vehicle will not shut off. i have taking the vehicle into gmc service and they said it was okay to drive it and take it home. since then we have had to get the vehicle towed back to the service dealership that said it was okay to drive because the vehicle died several times and would not start. there is a nation wide problem with this model ant the shifting not staying in park.
I have a 2017 acadia. when the car is shifted into park, the dashboard shows a warning that the car is not in park! it says i can't turn off the car until the car is in park, even though it's in park. after speaking to the service department at my dealership, they informed me that this is a very common issue and they bought in extra parts to repair the cars that come in. this first happened 6 months ago but only occured one time, now it is consistant and i am only 700 miles out of warranty so i am stuck paying for it out of pocket. after much research, i have found this to be an extremely common problem.
When car is placed in park, the dashboard display says that the car must be shifted to park, although it is has been put in park. the car must be restarted, and reshifted to park, multiple times. (as many as a dozen times.) when the error message appears the electrical components do not shut down. the car cannot be locked. unsure whether car is/ is not actually in park, or whether there is a danger of car rolling away.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 gmc acadia. the contact stated that the gear shifter would not remain in the park position and the vehicle would not power off. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to norman gale buick gmc (1247 nj-10, cedar knolls, nj 07927, (973) 975-4039) where it was diagnosed that the gear shifter needed to be replaced. the dealer stated that the part would not be available until september of 2019. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was approximately 26,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 gmc acadia. the contact stated that the vehicle would not shut off and the engine ran for hours. eventually, the internal system recognized that the vehicle was in park and finally turned itself off. the manufacturer had not done anything to address the failure; however, they issued technical service bulletin number: 18-na-297 on december 13, 2018. the contact called numerous unknown dealers across the country to try to buy the part mentioned in the service bulletin, but the part was still on backorder. the part that was needed for the repair was the transmission shifter assembly (number: 13528228). the cost of the part was less than $150. the contact stated that the vehicle was out of its initial warranty. the failure mileage was 47,500. the vin was unknown. *tr
Our acadia on a 50% basis is complaining to the driver to "shift to park". this is even though the vehicle has been shifted to park. took to the dealership today and they said they ordered the part but because this is a known issue there is none available right now and no idea when the part will be available.
Shift to park not recognized when vehicle stationary in park. vehicle will not turn off or lock during this time.
Shift to park when putting the car in park, it says shift to park and the vehicle continues to run and horn honks letting you know you are exiting the car with it running, after putting it in drive, neutral, etc and shifting it back to park, the message still displays.
Upon shifting the vehicle into park the onboard display will not show the vehicle in park. after reviewing multiple forums this is a common problem that could be a safety issue if the vehicle is not shifting into park
Shift to park error when car is already in park. issue started about 2 months ago; however, it is becoming worse and more frequent. most of the time, pressing the shifter button in/out will turn the car off but not it can take up to 5 minutes of turning the car on/off and shifting gears to get the car to recognize that it is in park. (the dashboard does recognize that it is in park with the "p" beside the mileage but the sensor does not.) it is a safety concern because the car can not be turned off and locked. despite only having the car for a little over 2 years, the dealership says the costs needs to be covered out of pocket since it was a loaner.
A "shift to park" message shows up after i have already put my vehicle in park which does not allow me to turn my vehicle off completely. i have 53,500 miles on my acadia and had to have a new battery put in last week. a gmc dealership states the part to fix the shift lever is on back order but that they have heard this is a common issue with the 2017 acadia. it is frustrating that gmc is aware there is an issue and that there has been a lawsuit filed regarding this however there has not been a recall issued.
Every time i park my vehicle. it is in park but a message displays telling me to put the vehicle in park and it will not shut off.
After parking the vehicle, shifting into park and turning off the engine, a warning message appears stating to shift the car into park. the car is in park, but there must be some type of sensor failure. i am prohibited from completing shut down of the vehicle until i clear the warning message. when this issue first arose, i could "jiggle" the shifter a bit, and the message would clear. now, about two weeks later, i need to start the car, move the shifter between gears, and then back into park. after 2 - 3 times repeating the procedure, the warning message usually clears. the vehicle has been taken in for service. a new shifter has been ordered. the part is on back order.
When the vehicle is in park, the car displays a message 'shift to park' and will not let you turn the car off. this is causing me to have to turn car on and off and move it from drive to park until it registers.
When parking the vehicle, after shifting to park, the dashboard displays a warning shift to park and will not allow the vehicle to be shut off. the vehicle was stationary on a city street, in our driveway, and also in a parking lot. this prevented me from exiting the vehicle for about 10 minutes each time, will i continued to restart the car, shift from park to another gear and then reshift into park.
When my vehicle was in park & i was going to turn it off it gave me this message action to park when in park. this has happened several times. i have taken it to the dealership & nothing can be done.
When i put my car into park to turn off my car, it would not turn off and said to put car in park. i have to wiggle the shifter, sometimes several times. it happened right before when my car was in around 35,000 miles. they didn't have any appointments that week. i had to go to california the next week. i went in yesterday, since it was over 36,000 miles. they said it was not under warranty anymore. i told them the situation. said l had to pay $488.
When placing vehicle in park and turning off ignition, the message appears 'shift to park'. everything is still on in the vehicle, lights radio etc. sometimes i can wiggle the shift controller and it will disappear or sometimes i have to turn ignition back on and try again to turn off. sometimes takes several times to get message to disappear.
Vehicle is unable to shift into park. i keep getting an error message to "shift to park" even though i am in park, and it will not allow me to turn the vehicle off. i will have to shift the car into drive and park about 25 times before it will recognize that is actually in park so i can turn off the vehicle. this only happens whn the vehicle is stopped and i am trying to turn it off.
When the car is shifted from a driving gear or neutral into park, sometimes the car will not register that it has actually shifted into park. a warning shows up on the dash that says "action required, shift to park" even though it is in park. the car will not turn off during this warning, so you have to shift it back and forth from drive to park until it finally registers park. sometimes it happens the next try, sometimes it will take 50. there have been two occasions when attempting to park on a slope that the car started to roll, only a foot or two, but then the emergency brake automatically turned on the bring the car to a stop. the car has been in for service multiple times and they have been unable to find a fix at this time.
When the vehicle is parked after driving and the placed in park, the vehicle fails to recognize that is in "park". this causes the interior accessories to remain running as though the vehicle is running even when the engine is off. this happens when the vehicle is stationary. from review of information, this is a know manufacturing defect from gm. when gm was contacted to have repaired in the vehicle we were informed that they cannot warranty their vehicles forever and it would not be repaired. this seems to be an inappropriate response for an issue that is not a warranty item but has been published as a manufacturing defect.
I have requested at least 4 times for repair of my car 2017 acadia. several caution light on the dashboard comes on including the engine sensor(malfunction indicator lamp). while driving the car it looses power to accelerate. when pressing the gas pedal the car stalls. this issue has happened on both the highway and city. there have also been times when turning into a parking lot i have felt some vibration. additionally, the car dashboard gives out commands for putting the car in park after it is stationary.
When the car is parked on a flat surface (inside the garage, parking garage, parking lot), the car will display "shift to park" when it is already in park. the accessories stay on until the driver is able to get the car's computer to notice the car is in park.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 gmc acadia. the contact stated that the vehicle was shifted into the off position with the engine depowered however, the electrical functions continue to function. the brake assist and steering assist warning indicators illuminated. discovery chevrolet buick gmc (2705 us-421, boone, nc) where the failure could not be diagnosed. the failure was not repaired however, the gmc manufacturer informed the technicians to tighten the tensioner cable to temporarily repair the vehicle. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 16,000.kh
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 gmc acadia. while the vehicle was engaged in park with the engine running, it inadvertently rolled away. as a result, the occupant was struck by the door and the vehicle ran over the occupant's foot. medical attention was required. the vehicle continued to roll away and rear ended another vehicle. a police report was not filed. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was awaiting diagnostic testing and repairs. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 3,002. the vin was not available.
Placed the vehicle in park, it was stationary and it rolled forward. message in the info center said "shift to park". i was parking in a mall parking lot.this has occurred 5 times. i can push the gearshift back and forth and then it can be turned off and the message will disappear. i took it to the dealership and was told they are waiting on gm to see what can be done. it makes a sound when in motion at slow speeds on a city street like the back needs shocks. it seems to bounce more than it should.
When shifting vehicle into park, the vehicle still says shift to park and will not turn off.
When the vehicle is in park and you try to turn it off with the start/stop button an on dash error code of "shift to park" appears even though the vehicle is clearly in park. you are not able to turn the vehicle off. i took the vehicle in for service on 6/4/18 and was told that gm is aware of the issue however their engineers have not found a solution. this currently is forcing me restart the engine, put my car in reverse, shift back in drive, try re parking and turning off again repeating the process until it eventually turns off. i do not know if my car is truly in gear or not. i'm afraid that it might cause a dangerous situation.
When the car is intentionally stopped and shifted into park, the dashboard shows a warning that the car is not in park. it requires moving the gear shift in and out of drive until the electronics recognize the car is in park. until then, all the car electronics remain active. when the door is opened an alarm sounds because the electronics thinks the car is not in park. the gmc dealership is aware of the problem but claims the parts needed to fix it are unavailable. this first happened over a year ago, but the dealership couldn't recreate the problem. it has started happening again, and the dealership has recognized the problem, but claims the parts are unavailable.
