We have classified the 258 complaints from 2008 GMC Acadia about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
My car engine starting revving while driving at normal speeds. while driving with my 3 children in the car, it came to a dead stop and couldn't go in reverse. the vehicle was towed and then diagnosed with a broken 35r clutch wave plate. had to have the transmission rebuilt at 48k miles. the car had been driven less than 10k miles a year for 5.5 years. *tr
I have had to replace a transmission on a car with just over 55000 miles. the windows leak when sitting outside in the rain. the power steering locks up when you drive thru a puddle. the braking system makes some god awful noise when going on or off a ramp. this was our very first brand new off the line car. really wish we had waited until the bugs were worked out. *tr
Transmission started slipping. i would pull out onto a street and it would slip and i almost got his by a car. i took it in repeatedly to dealer and they couldn't duplicate and after repeatedly taking it back and them keeping it for a month they finally replaced the transmission. repeated steering issues. i took it in constantly and was told nothing wrong but after looking at it myself i found melted bushing and after being told all that had been replaced already. steering problems from day 1. 4 times of having power steering replaced and steering column and every time i got the vehicle back the vibration was worse, today i found the problem on my own. the rack and pinion has a major leak. not sure how repeated trips to the dealership and they couldn't see this. my steering also locks up while driving almost hit a car..and the dealership never has loaners so im stuck driving an unsafe vehicle while i wait because i was told i can only go where i bought my vehicle because of the extended warranty. this vehicle goes in to the shop and as soon as it is picked up it needs to go right back the same day. worst vehicle and most unsafe of anything i've ever owned. *tr
i purchased a 2008 gmc acadia one year ago. it seemed like we had made a god sent deal and now we are finding out that the transmission is going out. our family doesn't have a whole lot of money to just throw away and we put down $5000 and now we are looking down the barrel of a transmission. not fair considering the dealership apparently knew it was about to go out. i was driving with 3 other teens in my car and all of a sudden it wouldn't go faster than 25 mph. *tr
I was driving down the highway on friday afternoon at 65 mph when i tried to accelerate to pass a vehicle, and the engine just revved nearly to the redline. i was able to reach the exit, where i pulled over, put the car in park, then back into drive to start off again. at this point, the car would not shift out of 1st gear. i was able to make it to a midas shop for a check and they stated that the transmission was shot. called the local gmc dealer and had the car towed there for a diagnostic. they called saturday afternoon and confirmed that the transmission needs to be replaced at a cost of $3700. the car is 24k miles under warranty mileage, but just happens to be 5 months outside of the 5 year warranty window. i then called gmc customer care for redress and was told they would investigate. received a call today ad they left a message, but only to ask which dealership it was at, even though i provided that info on saturday, to include the phone number to the service department. the transmission problem seems to very widespread based on the number of responses on various websites, but doesn't seem that it is being seriously addressed by gm management and is a very serious safety concern. *tr
My wife was driving the vehicle and approached a stop sign. once she tried going again the car would not accelerate and we had to tow it to the dealer. they said the transmission went out @ 68,000 miles? also the waterpump, powersteering pump. master cylinder, as well as something with an air bag connector. the air bag connector has been going on and off for the last two years since we bought it two years ago as a gm certified pre-owned vehicle. i am not sure how this vehicle has not been recalled. *tr
I've had my gmc acadia in for service on the transmission 3 times in the last 6 months: speed sensor, wave plate, now torque converter. dealership responds they are completely independent, and that this is not an issue with this model. however, the failure of the transmission in these vehicles is prominent on gmc acadia forums. why has gm not stepped up to own and fix this common issue?
I was driving to the store when i turned a corner and went to hit the gas to go and i had nothing! my car started rolling backwards down the hill into traffic. i was lucky to not be hit. i slammed on the brakes and threw it into park. i turned my car off and restarted it and tried to move it and i had no drive so i tried to put it in reverse to back it up on the side of the road and nothing i had no drive no reverse nothing!!!!! i had it towed to the shop and i still know nothing on why it happened except they said there is an internal transmission issue. i haven't even owned it a year. i rely on this car to safely get my three kids where they need to be and now i'm terrified to put my children back in this car after reading all the other horror stories about this car. there needs to be a recall!!!!!!!!!! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. the contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle shook and independently decelerated to 10 mph then stalled. after restarting, the transmission failed to shift into reverse. the vehicle was able to resume normal operation. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. the technician stated that the transmission wave plate fractured which caused internal damage. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
Transmission started slipping between 2nd and 3rd gear then two days later just quit in a drive thru lane at a fast food. couldn't get into any gear. i had to have people push it out to a safe location. towed it home. now i have a $18,000 piece of scrap metal sitting in my driveway. *tr
In february of this year (2013) the transmission in our 2008 gmc acadia failed while i was driving my two small children home from preschool. thankfully i never lost control of the car although it was extremely frightening and a very dangerous experience to not be able to shift into another gear while in the middle of moving traffic on a busy road. i barely made it home, drove with my hazard lights on, shaking and counting my blessings that our car was not hit and we were not hurt. what makes it all the more upsetting is that gm is aware of this issue with 2008 acadia models but yet has never done a recall on the defective transmissions in our cars. gm is essentially telling it's customers that it does not care about their safety or well being. they allow us to continue to drive their cars even though they are aware of the potential danger involved when the transmission shuts down. i cannot afford another car for my family right now so every day i live in fear that this car will fail again and put us in danger. it is not the safe, reliable car i was led to believe it was when i purchased it for my family vehicle. gmc should be forced to recall these cars (2007/2008 gmc acadia) and required to put in completely new transmissions. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc arcadia. the contact stated that while traveling 25 mph, there was a loud pop noise from under the vehicle. the vehicle then became resistant to acceleration attempts. the check engine light was also illuminated and the vehicle would not move forward or when in reverse. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was advised that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vin was not available. the failure and the current mileages were 90,177.
Traveling approximately 65 mph in the far left lane of a major highway. going up a slight incline i tried to accelerate but the car was not reacting then the rpms would shoot up but the car would not react. i had to cross 3 lanes of traffic to get to the emergency lane. the car would not go over 20 mph after that and struggled at that. i managed to get to a gas station. 1 tow truck, 1 rental car and now $1500 to replace the "wave plates" and "wave housing". additional note - the car broke down in august 2012 as well. in that incident the water pump had to be replaced. *tr
On two occasions after putting the vehicle in park, turning off the ignition, removing the key and exiting the vehicle, it rolled back and only stopped when driver jumped back in and applied the brake. this occurred on a flat garage surface (no incline) on both occasions, with different drivers on each occasion. gmc dealer says they can not replicate the issue and there is nothing to repair. this vehicle is dangerous, as it can roll back unexpectedly, potentially causing serious bodily injury or death, or damage to physical property. gmc recalled the 2009 acadia for the same issue previously, but maintains there are no issues with my vehicle. i found additional complaints for this issue on the 2008 acadia on the internet as well, so this issue is not unique to me. *tr
Transmission started failing and finally went out at 108,000 miles, sitting in our driveway and we had to have it towed to dealer. gm dealer replaced it under warranty but the labor cost us several thousand dollars. now at 170,000 miles, this remanufactured transmission is now going out. it sticks in low speed and then overheats driving 65mph in 40deg weather. the dealer claims that a stretched timing chain has to be fixed first, before the transmission, at a cost of $1944. they also said the on board computer didn't store the numerous overheated transmission events that began occurring immediately after the remanufactured transmission was installed at 108,000 miles. the gm dealer is trying to tell me that the transmission is probably ok and that the overheating is due to some other reason, but he then couldn't even guess at what the other reasons might be! the fluid level is good, and the vehicle has a tow package with a cooler for the transmission fluid. gm dealer said the transmission will be covered by warranty, which will likely mean another several thousand dollar labor charge on top of the so called stretched timing chain cost of $1,900. the power steering pump has been whining for about a year and is getting loud. the navigation and dvd player system failed twice. might be time to trade the vehicle for something more reliable. my wife is getting scared to drive it too far and end up being broken down in atlanta traffic...very dangerous. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc arcadia. the contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the vehicle failed to move. the contact merged to the shoulder of the road and had the vehicle towed to the dealer. the dealer informed her the reverse wave plate had fractured and the reverse clutch four, five and six housing were damaged. as a result, the housings had to be reconditioned and the reaction sun gear needed to be replaced. recently, the transmission failed again with the same problem. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer who stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was being repaired at the dealer. the manufacturer was notified who stated a representative would contact her within twenty four hours. the failure mileage was 74,450 and the current mileage was 110,000.
I'm concerned about the safety of the 2008 gmc acadia and similar gm vehicles, as i was driving with my family out of town when the transmission suddenly had problems shifting in and out of gears. while driving the weekend after thanksgiving and approximately 4 hours from home, our 2008 gmc acadia started down-shifting hard after passing a vehicle on the highway. a few minutes later this repeated, and then the check engine light came on. soon after, when almost to our destination, the vehicle had no power to get up hills on the highway, and once we exited, could barely make it off the exit ramp and through a very busy intersection. it seemed to be stuck in a high gear. being late friday afternoon on a holiday weekend and now in a rural area, there weren't any repair shops that were either open or could look at it. so we had to rent a car and attempt to drive the acadia back another 40-50 miles to get to a chevy dealer that was open and could at least checkout the transmission. on saturday they confirmed it was the transmission, and specifically the 3-5-r wave plate, but the vehicle wouldn't be ready until the following week. later i researched and found this to be a common problem, but it still wasn't being recalled by gm. luckily we were barely (1 month) inside of our power train warranty and didn't get hurt. i will say that the chevy dealer that did the repair was great to work with, especially since we were from out of town. but now i'm worried about being able to safely drive this vehicle for any significant distance from our home. *tr
We were coming home from family on thanksgiving night and the check engine light came on as we were getting on the highway. when we got off the highway and onto our exit, we hit a red light. luckily, it was on a hill, because my husband hit the gas and we didn't go anywhere. the car just revved up to around 4 rpm's. we finally gained some momentum going down the hill and then the car drove just fine again. next stop light, same thing...only this time, we were making a left hand turn and facing on-coming traffic. it took everything it had and about 20 seconds just to roll through the intersection! if our kids had been in the car with us, this could have been a major accident if we had been hit! the car was towed to the mechanics and was found to be a broken wave plate. there are numerous complaints about the wave plates in the acadia's, traverse's, and the outlook's, but no recall. i am also only 1 month out of the power train warranty! please help! thank you! *tr
Been going through forums and know a few people who have purchased acadia's and the transmission gives out on these cars really quick and it's a 5000 dollar fix that gmc knows about and refuses to fix and at 50,000 miles their is no reason you should need a new transmission i personally am two weeks out of warranty with a 22000 dollar sitting brick and expected to pay for poor production quality this should be addressed on the national level and is extremely unfair to loyal tax payers to be almost robbed in plain daylight. *tr
Warning indicators turn on for the system braking components such as abs brake failure, traction control and loss of engine power while accelerating between 35 to 50 miles per hour. engine power decrease and the car speed and power is decreased with the loss of engine power warning. the car would just stop at this point. i contacted onstar each time this issue occurred to a diagnostic scan and each report indicated that same warning reported on the console. after 10 minutes the vehicle would re-start and i was able to drive it. this issue has re-occurred within 2 years and the gmc service department was unable to diagnose the problem but during the latest incident the mechanic had ruled the issue as low brake fluid. i've investigated this issue online on various blog forums for the gmc acadia with the same description of braking system failure and others report the failure as an internal braking malfunction in which the master cylinder leaks into the brake booster. i'm concerned that this problem could potential become fatal is it recurs. the gmc service department refuse to look into my concern and investigate the problem. there are no visible signs of a leak because the leak is internal. *tr
The power steering stopped working while driving and i had to complete emergency maneuvers to get the car off of the road. *tr
Picking up my car after an oil change and tire rotation at the dealer, the car would not go into reverse. they ran diagnostics on the vehicle and i was told the transmission or more specifically the wave plate in the transmission broke. it's been at the dealer going into the second week now. they are still having a shifting issue. *tr
While traveling down the road at highway speeds, the vehicle looses power on its own, and down shifts to first gear at times, without the ability to shift into higher gears. also at times, you pull up to a intersection, and the vehicle will not pull off under its own power. vehicle has 80,000 miles on it, with a 100,000 mile power train warranty. gm says the warranty went out in october of 2012. the vehicle has multiple history of gm reprogramming the transmission, and the vehicle has been serviced regular. *tr
Purchased 2008 acadia in march 2012. eight (8) months after purchase while driving with infant son in vehicle, without any warning or lights the car lost all power. luckily, a serious accident didn't occur. the transmission had completely failed. the cause was a broken 3-5 waveplate, the transmission had heat damage, and material throughout. our local gmc dealer service department removed, torn down, and overhauled the transmission. this service was covered under a 5 year 100,000mi warranty. it has been 1 year and the transmission is slow to change gears and shaking rumbling at 20mph and 40mph. i called my local dealer they were unable to set up an appointment for 4 days, the car is now at the dealership. i was told it needs $4,900.00 of work. the cause of the shake and rumble during acceleration is the failure of the torque converter ($2,000). the torque converter was replaced with a remanufactured torque converter, when the transmission was rebuilt 13 months ago. when i asked gm to replace the torque converter, i was told i was lucky it lasted more than 12,000mi. very disappointed with gm. the transmissions are defective and the are aware of this issue, they put a band aid on the car until it passed 100,000mi,and no longer covered by warranty and now the consumers problem. i do not consider myself lucky that my car spent 7 days in the shop last november and now has been in the shop 4 days with no end in sight, for the same issue. *tr
I purchased my 2008 gmc acadia on 9/22/11. the following summer on august 25, 2012 the transmission went out while on vacation. it was towed to a dealership where they told me the wave plate and snap ring were broken. they replaced the clutch housing, all pistons, all fibers, replaced side cover and pistons and seals and springs. they replaced control valve body spacer plate and tom solenoid gasket screen. the vehicle had 73,730 miles on it. since then i have also replaced the headlights twice, the battery once. my dash lights only work when they want to and my windshield sprayer stopped working. to top it off my transmission went out again just the other day!!!! it's november 10th 2014 with 119,000 miles and i'm already needing to have another transmission!?!? this vehicle is junk, and i still owe a ton of money.....something needs to be done about this! *tr
My friends and i left a store and was pulling out onto a busy route. speed limit is posted as 45 mph. i was idling at the stop sign waiting for a vehicle to pass. when it did i pulled out into traffic. i gently pressed on the accelerator and that is when i felt the truck jerk and then the pedal was floored!!! i was not doing this!!!! i was in amongst the traffic, trying to dodge others, and then i tried to turn my truck off. i couldn't do it. it was not allowing me to and the speed had increased dramatically!!! i reached down and was messing with the accelerator hoping to pull it up from the floor. the accelerator was completely pressed into the floor as if someone glued it there. i crossed over 3 lanes of traffic trying to dodge vehicles and trying to prevent a crash. i finally managed to free the accelerator. it freaks me out when i drive now,. *tr
Transmission failed with defective swash plates. stuck in gear and would not go into to reverse. common issue with 2008 acadia and needs to be recalled. luckily transmission did not stick in gear on freeway that could have caused an accident. *tr
I have been very disappointed with my vehicle! when i was in the market for a new vehicle i new i wanted the acadia. i have been a long time customer at my local dealership and when i arrived at the lot they had just brought in a 2008 that had one owner. i was ecstatic because it was everything i could want and not as expensive as a 2012. when i first started driving it was great i loved it! i bought the car with 8,000 or so miles on it and as time went on i started to notice that it wasn't driving like it did the first day i bought it. i drive to and from work 5 days week roughly 35 miles a day. i was in town at the bank and as i started to pull out into the lane my rpm's went sky high and wouldn't come back down and i could not accelerate. i was so scared i pulled over in the next available spot and turned off the car. i waited for 5 minutes, turned it back on and proceeded to pull into traffic. ever since that day my car has been in the shop twice for transmission issues. i currently have 29,000 miles on the car and it drives like crap! i have it aligned, tires rotated, and i cannot get a smooth ride. the steering wheel shimmies over 50 mph, shimmies when i hit the breaks, my heater doesn't seem to work well unless it is on 85 way too hot. i now have to take the car back into the shop yet again for the same thing transmission failure, alignment off, and who knows what else. i read a lot reviews on this model and seems as though we have all experienced the same issues. i have been a long time pontiac/gmc buyer and i am very disappointed in gm for not taking this transmission thing serious. how many more complaints do you need to receive before something is done? fatal accident? in which case i hope it isn't me but also nobody else. please fix this issue it has been a thorn for some time and it's about time that gm do something about it! *tr
I bought my gmc acadia in february and have had it at the dealership i know 15+ times. everything is wrong with it. it started off that it was the stability track and stability control censors, then it went to both rear wheel bearings replace, bypassing the wiring (because gm) told the dealership to bypass the factory wiring and build a new harness for the wiring, several other things wrong, and now the transmission!!!! what will happen next!!! so many people are having major issues with the acadia. not dependable nor safe for me nor my family!!!!! *tr
3.5.r waved clutch plate failure in 2008 gmc acadia 6 speed transmission. engine in reduced power mode. call to onstar - diagnostics - transmission issues. no reverse gear. limited forward gears. *tr
My acadia's transmission failed (the 3, 5, r wave plate) while 4 hours from home. it has now been at the dealership for 22 days ... the transmission has been taken out 3 times and still can't "get it right". this is a huge mess that gm has not handled well at all. they will not let the dealership put a new transmission in it. they can't tell me when my car will even be ready ... there are 4 other acadia's at the dealership with the same problem .... just google gmc acadia transmission problems and you will see that i am not alone ..... thank you for any help you can provide. *tr
I own a gmc acadia 2008 that started having transmission problems one year ago (july 2012), i was on a busy highway in austin, tx and had my three young daughters with me when i started noticing i couldn't accelerate very well. next day my gmc acadia just stopped in the middle of a road and i couldn't accelerate at all, thank god this time my daughters were not in the car with me. i had the car towed and it turned out the problem was a broken wave plate which seems to be a very common problem with gmc acadias 2007 and 2008. *tr
I was driving on the highway and pressed the gas and started to move then without the warning the car stopped running. it felt like the car had been pushed into neutral, the motor would rev but it would not go anywhere. took it to the gm dealer. i was told it was all set. fast forward 2 weeks later same exact thing happened, also my car started to "buck" in reverse. again brought to gm dealer and told nothing is wrong with it. fast forward 4 days later heading on vacation with my 4 year old int he car. same thing happens in the middle of the highway, we came to a dead stop. this was very scary since i had my daughter with me and we were 150 miles from home. called gm dealer i had been dealing with and they gave me the number for the gm dealer closest to were i was located. called the gm dealer on cape cod, ma. was told to drive it there and they are so busy it will be days before they could even look at it. they had my car for 2 weeks and told it is fixed. i can tell it is not the transmission is still acting up. due to the incidents with this car i do feel myself or my family could have been seriously injured with from this car stopping in the middle of highways. after doing research on the vehicle i have come across numerous gm owners with the same situation. i do believe that this situation could have been life threatening- by a major car accident. i hope someone can help us because gm does not seem to care about what is happening. *tr
Transmission failed. this is the first of two 2008 acadias in which we had to rebuild the transmission as the wave plate broke. there needs to be a recall is this is a very common issue and happens around the 70k mile mark! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. the contact stated that the steering wheel failed and became hard turn when parking or when turning at low speeds. the failure was experienced numerous times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who flushed the power steering lines. the failure was not corrected. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer for further inspection. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 77,700 and the current mileage was 104,000. updated 11/19/13*lj the consumer stated that the wave plate and timing chain were both replaced under warranty. the steering gear box pump was not covered under warranty. updated 12/2/2013 *js
Vehicle failed to shift into the next gear smoothly. gears within transmission broken. gmc replaced under warranty, but at 52,086 miles the transmission should not be breaking down. *tr
Hundreds of complaints about the transmission problems i am complexed that there is no recall at this time. february 2012 my gmc lost power as i was driving. the car was towed to gmc and i was told something was wrong with the transmission (on top of all the other major problems i have had) this luckily was covered under the warranty. fast forward one year later february 2013 transmission fluid leaking went to the dealer where they put in a dye to trace the leaks as they said they did not believe it was the transmission, they wanted to charge for this but agreed to do this for free. i was also told the transmission that they fixed was only covered for 12 months or 12,000 miles. at this point it was a lost cause dealing with the dealer as they were not covering any of their work and said these issues did not fall under warranty even though it was still under the 5 year/100,000 mile warranty period. after driving it for a while we noticed more fluid leaking from the car so my husband brought the car to gmc in early october 2013 to discuss the issue of the transmission, he was told the 5 years period ended 9/27/13. on october 15 i was driving on the high way and the check engine light came on and the car would not go faster than 40 mph. i drove the car to my mechanic as gmc was clear this car was no longer warrantied. i am now told that my car is in need of a new transmission costing over $4,000. calls into the dealer went unanswered for over a week and complaints to gmc corporate were useless. this is not normal wear and tear of a car and if you look at all the complaints made on the transmission of this car there needs to be a recall as this is a huge safety issue with transmissions failing more than once. if you look at the buick enclave and saturn outlook yas these "triplets" all have the same issues it is enough to justify a recall or class action law suit. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. the contact stated that he noticed a puddle of liquid underneath the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and they stated that the transmission needed to be replaced .the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 37,960.
8/26/2011 - 71,309 miles - water pump went out and had to be replaced. 5/07/2012 - 86,885 miles - transmission shuttered when coming to a stop in traffic. would not start and had to be towed to mechanic. transmission assembly replaced with gm reman transmission due to broken reverse wave plate that damaged the carrier, sun shell and metal throughout. also detected an oil leak in the engine front cover that needed to be repaired and heard power steering noise so bled power steering system. 12/31/2012- 100,947 miles - headlight switch fell inside dash panel. 7/26/2013 - 112,506 miles - power steering has never worked properly. it has always made noises and has been stiff. had it bled several times with no improvement. power steering went out while making a left hand turn into a busy intersection. at shop now to determine if it needs a new power steering pump, rack, and/or serpentine belt. i have read many complaints with the same issues as those that i have experienced. i am disappointed that gm isn't more concerned about the safety of their consumers and the reliability and quality of their vehicles. i have never owned such a lemon! i personally will never own another gm product. going back to lexus. *tr
My power steering groans and moans when turning at low speeds. turning the wheel is very difficult even for me being a male. the noise is very annoying and may affect the steering. the car is for my family of three kids and wife --- not sure they should be driving this anymore. i called the a gmc service dealer and they said they have heard of "very similar issues" waiting back to hear if they will repair this. i've had too many repairs lately for a car with only 58k miles -- one sway bar, another sway bar, transmission issue, headlamp issue, faulty thermostat, limited life brake pads, now power steering issues! ugh! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. the contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the vehicle shook and decelerated to 40 mph. the contact was unable to accelerate beyond 40 mph. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and the transmission was replaced. approximately one year later, the failure recurred. the vehicle was not taken back for repair. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 50,000.
I have had the rack & pinion steering rack replaced 2 times since i've owned the vehicle (bought new in july 2008) dealership replaced both after getting ugly with them, now at 75,000 miles transmission went out, replaced it. got it back from dealer and now the steering locks up when turning, usually happens when taking off from a stop and then it finally unlocks as your trying to turn with excessive force. feels like the power steering just goes out for a few seconds and then comes back. have just dealt with it last few weeks, but now after not able to turn and hit a curb while turning, there is obviously something defective. doing research on this there is numerous complaints about the steering locking up, this is very dangerous if its defective. paying 45k for a vehicle you shouldn't have to argue with the dealer on replacing this part. is there something being done to fix this issue. i have almost come to a decision that gm doesn't stand behind their product and have about given up on them. *js
Most recent incident was 5-25-2014- transmission wave plate broke. i have learned that these plates were not stress relieved on the 2008s. 02-2014 water pump cracked and had to be replaced, this caused a total system failure while driving. vehicle has been towed at least 3 times. vehicle currently in shop, all repair paperwork is in the vehicle. i don't remember the specifics of the first time, it was days after i got the vehicle. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. the contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was towed to the dealer. the technician diagnosed that the water pump had failed. the vehicle was repaired.in addition, the contact stated that the transmission failed and she was not able to exceeded more than 10 mph. the dealer repaired the fuel kit, housing, sensor and cover. however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was aware of the issue. the approximate failure mileage was 28,000.
Cause code: 6021 - component damaged/cracked, reverse clutch plate replacement reading various forums, these seems to be a problem with all lambada platforms, hundreds if not thousands of transmission failures, creating a major safety concern for myself and the public. gm needs to replace these trannys with a new more durable/reliable design before someone is seriously injured or killed, its only a matter of time. please confront gm with these complaints...thx http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/webx/.f215073?displayrecent. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. the contact stated that while the vehicle in the drive position, it reversed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the failure was due to a faulty wave plate. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 53,000.
I've had three transmissions in this car with only 114,000 miles. wave plate, torque converter problems. *tr
I was driving to visit my daughter up at college and drive her and 2 friends home. as i drove though the college town my car started acting funny. just not accelerating and the rpm were racing, transmission appeared to stuck in first gear. drove as little as possible just needed to get home safe. as i was driving home, again car not accelerating properly. i drove though the ezpass toll on the tappan zee bridge and my car just wouldn't go. drove along it was very scary. i had to stop on the side of the road in the bronx. eventually got it to the dealership who replaced the reverse clutch plate. *tr

Recently, when loading the cargo area of my 08 gmc acadia, the vehicle started rolling forward (the ignition was off, and in "park"). it rolled approximately 2 ft. before "park" engaged. (my 2 grandsons were playing in my driveway a short distance away). after having the vehicle checked out at the gmc dealership where it was purchased the service mgr told me that this is a "normal" condition, acceptable by gm, that the parking gear "pawl" can actually roll up to 2 ft. before engaging. it doesn't seem probable, or even possible this can be considered to be a "safe" condition. when i asked who would be responsible for injuries resulting from this situation his response was, "gm". *tr
