My family of 6 was leaving sw florida this morning to drive back to ohio. about an hour into our trip i began to pass a semi when the transmission on my '07 gmc acadia locked up. the tach was pegged at 4500 but there was no response from the accelerator. im very concerned about other drivers with this same issue due to the lack of any acceleration. i consider myself to be an experienced driver, but trying to steer a dying car through 4 lanes of 70mph traffic while simultaneously answering my wife and 4 kids questions about what was happening was quite scary. please look into this soon. Vehicle would not shift properly and reverse would not work. had gmc fix the transmission but i had to come out of pocket as it was under mileage for the warranty but past the date by a few months. today 5/2/14, i'm being told that the transmission is going out again 1 year and 4 months after they fixed it. gmc says they only warranty for 1 year. unsafe vehicle for a transmission to be replaced by gmc twice within 1 1/2 years and under 115,000 miles. *tr
Vehicle would make very loud sound and the entire vehicle would jerk when going beyond 20 mph, i was terrified of putting my children in this car fearing that i would be entering the interstate of cars traveling 70 + mph and my car not shifting into gear!! after taking it in for a 3rd time. they kept telling me that no codes were coming up and refused to listen to me. after reading all of the blogs about this horrible car i went into the dealership insisted that the manager ride with me in the car to feel and hear what was going on in which he did. i told him that the wave plate was the problem with thousands of these cars so i was pretty sure this was the problem. he said don't believe everything you see on those blogs. well a few days later they called me and said the wave plate was bad and they replaced it!!! this car needs to be recalled for several reasons, power steering is bad and needed replaced, and is making the same sound again that it was making the first time it went out, the water pump went out and was replaced. i am almost to the end of my extended warranty and i hold my breath every time i drive my car praying that my transmission doesn't go out again, horrible to have this feeling on such an expensive vehicle, i am asking you to please recall these 2007 acadia's before someone looses their family's lives! thanks so much. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 gmc acadia. the contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the vehicle stalled and the transmission warning lamp illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician diagnosed that the transmission was defective and needed to be rebuild. the vehicle was repaired but two years later the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 150,000.
no recall for defective transmissions? bought 2007 acadiar used, 2600 miles /felt transmission problems early on. very noticeable jerk at 40mph. in and out of dealership since. last few months car has been in to dealer frequently re car bucking at stop lights really rough thought engine going to die. every time nothing showed in codes, emergency trip to doctor/heavy traffic main artery/can't get over 20mph/engine screaming/ make it to dr. (omg) towed to dealership. transmission gone. i could have had a serious accident. finally heard something about a wave plate. for 5 yrs i've said something wrong. no one said these were constant problems with acadias. they issued recalls for a leak in the sun roof. no recall for defective transmissions? known defective wave plates? i have extended warranty, but many don't. warranty or not, this safety hazard should be fixed by gmc at their expense. a recall is mandated. just ask the owners. . . *tr
2007 gmc acadia. consumer writes in regards to problems with the vehicle headlights and the transmission. *smd the consumer stated on december 17, 2011, the left headlight burned up for no apparent reason. the local dealer quoted him $1,213.59. he was able to get the headlight fixed for$ 695.67. on december 2, 2012 the transmission failed. the consumer had a rebuilt transmission installed at a cost of $ 3,737.25.
Wave plate broke into pieces in transmission in nov 2011 with 75,000 miles. now same issue with transmission in october 2013 with 102,000 miles. *tr
2007 gmc acadia transmission slips continually until it had a complete failure at 127,000 needing 2,3,5 and reverse wave plates. google acadia transmission problems, why has this transmission not been recalled? gm failed to harden these wave plates in the 2007 & 2008 gmc acadia along with the clone cars in the gm line up. there are documented failures out there as soon as 25,000 miles. this transmission is such a piece of junk. the local transmission shop works on this transmission more than any other. did the nhtsa stop holding gm accountable for gross negligence after the bailout? i guess the only recourse is to take matters into our own hands like mini cooper drivers and become part of a class action lawsuit. *tr
Transmission stuck in low gear causing dangerous driving condition. *js
When i purchased the vehicle there was a noticeable whine in the steering. i asked the salesman and he said that noise was typical with acadia's and there was no issue with the car. when i took it in for an oil change at a different dealer right before we left on vacation, i was told the power steering pump was going out and needed to be replaced immediately. did that even though we were delayed going on vacation and subsequently had it replaced two more times as well. also have had leaks in the sunroof that continue to return, and have now messed up my power window controls to the point that i can not control any of the other windows from the drivers seat. have had to replace the water pump, front struts, and now the solenoids are being replaced as well. when i purchased my car it had right at 54k miles on it and i had an extended warranty, that covered my power steering pump issues, but i have had to deal with the rest. i will have now put almost $3k into repairs that seem to be very typical with this car, based on what i have read on the internet. *tr
Transmission slipping jerks and bumps when shifting. passengers noted there was issues also. loses power going up hills. took it to cochran pontiac for two years and did not correct situation, since there were no codes on the computer even though the car had no power and was jerking. engine light, antilock braking, no rear sensors, and the fuel gauge lights are now on after another dealer fixed transmission and i had to pay $1,500 and i should have not paid anything. i did not have these lights on my dash board when i went to get the transmission fixed and the dealer has not fixed them. recently, my car lost power and died on a blind dangerous curve and shut down the engine. i was afraid to get hit and felt my car was unsafe. we put gas in and would not start and engine was hot. i had to have it towed to dealer after two weeks from getting the transmission repaired and told dealer transmission has noises in it and engine was hot and car would not start. they called and said it was out of gas and runs now, however, they did not address the issues noted above for all of the lights that were on the dash board. the gas was not the issue before car was towed since we put gas in there when it broke down. this 2007 acadia has had issues since 2011 that continue to present and this suv is known to have many recalls and is unsafe. the car was taken to the dealer numerous times with complaints by the customer. *tr
Transmission dead-racing rpm without gear shifting, broken wave plate inside transmission is the cause. water leaking from sunroof when raining, constant whinning in steering column. all these major problems under 75k miles. *tr

I have had several problems with this vehicle. the washer fluid light is always on, no matter how many times i have taken it for repair the power steering went out 8 months after the vehicle three months later at this present time. after having the vehicle for not even a year, the transmission has given out beyond repair. i have gotten several different people to look at it, its beyond repair (rebuild). i have done a lot of research and found that many people have had the same problems i really hope this helps, i don't think the customers should be responsible for the repair of this constant problem. *tr
I purchased a brand new 2007 gmc acadia in nov. of 2007. since new it has had a steering issue that can not be fixed. the rack and pinion has been replaced and the vehicle has burned up numerous powersteering pumps. the steering, while in a curve, will lock up and then release throwing the vehicle in the direction the wheel is turned. it has thrown the vehicle into the other lane of on coming traffic as well as throwing the vehicle of the road into a fence. each time the dealership has picked the vehicle up replaced the steering pumps but the problem still remains. the vehicle currently has 47,000 miles on it. the transmission locked up and the shifting components were replaced, then the transmission locked up and was replaced. the steering issue is are main concern. it was taken in on 9/28/10 and received new transmission and powersteering pump. we received the vehicle on 10/25/2010. on, 10/28/10 the vehicle steering locked up again throwing my wife off the road into a fence. there is no way that gm has put three bad power steering pumps on the vehicle. the vehicle has a more serious problem that is binding the steering causing the pumps to burn up. the same problem has made the vehicle unsafe to drive due to the danger of it locking up and throwing the vehicle into on coming traffic. i have all service records reporting this issue. i will not allow my back in this vehicle and i am not comfortable trading it in for another family to be killed in it. i could not live with that. gm will doing nothing about as they have been contacted. please help me get a replacement for this vehicle (same year model type and equally equipped) and get this vehicle off the road. i could trade it in as gm wants me too and they will give me $1600 off the trade. but could not sleep at night knowing i put someone else and their families in danger with this vehicle. my email is [xxx]phone # [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Driving my 2007 gmc acadia. went to pass a slower vehicle, pressed on the accelerator to pass and the transmission went haywire and the accelerator stuck. i had to put the car in neutral to get it stopped. the rpms were in the 4000s. then the acceleration would stop and start again over to 4000. luckily when i passed the vehicle there were no cars in front of me or i would have had a major accident with the acceleration out of control. i took it to the dealer and they told me that two of the timing chains were very worn and there was an issue with the clutch pressure control with harsh shifts in drive range 3rd and/or 5th gear. this is the second time i have had problems with this issue. the first time the gmc dealer 'flashed' (reprogrammed) the transmission, even though it was not acting up when the car was taken into the shop. if this issue is not addressed "properly", i believe someone somewhere will be injured or killed. the condition my vehicle exhibited leaves me with a very uneasy feeling. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 gmc acadia. while driving at 40 mph, the contact noticed that the vehicle would not shift gears. prior to the failure, the contact noticed that the vehicle would hesitate when driving at any speed. the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealership where the clutch plate was replaced. the failure mileage was approximately 6,000. the current mileage was approximately 48,000.
Driving my 2007 gmc acadia. came upon a busy state highway. after coming to a stop, i saw an opening and pressed on the accelerator to cross the 4 lane road. when i pressed the accelerator, the car just started to creep out into traffic. the engine rpm's increased, but the car was moving at walking speed. it was obvious that the transmission had not shifted back into 1st gear. i tried to manually shift into low, but it did not respond. i finally was able to get it going fast enough to have it pick up some speed to get across the lanes of traffic. on the way home, every time i came to a stop, the car acted the same way upon acceleration. the only way i was able to get the car to go back into 1st gear was to shut the car off and restart it. even doing that, it only lasted until the next time i stopped. after letting the car sit over night, it performed fine the next day. this is the second time i have had problems with this issue. the first time the gmc dealer 'flashed' (reprogrammed) the transmission, even though it was not acting up when the car was taken into the shop. i spoke with a car dealer at the shop, and he owned the same vehicle. his transmission has been 'reflashed' 6 or 7 times for the same issue. if this issue is not addressed "properly", i believe someone somewhere will be injured or killed. the condition my vehicle exhibited leaves me with a very uneasy feeling (i.e. when i press the accelerator, i expect the car to move). if reflashing the transmission (1, 2, 3, 4...7 times) does not fix the problem, then maybe something different needs to be done. *tr
The car has had electrical and engine problems since we purchased it due to water leaks from a flawed sunroof design. even after a recall to fix the sunroof to prevent water leaks; it continues to leak and damage electrical and engine systems. this is an ongoing problem and is a widespread concern for the 2007-2008 gmc acadias. i would like someone to investigate this problem. i believe it is a safety concern because the leaks occur in the area where there are airbags. i think there is a structural defect that may not be able to be repaired and it presents a safety hazard for all who drive these vehicles. please investigate this problem. do not let gmc sweep this under the rug! *tr
My 2007 acadia would drive above 50km it finally broke down and wouldn't move. we had to get a flatbed truck to take the car in to gm and found out it was the sway bar that was broke as well as the crankshaft sensor and just a month before this we had issues with the steering wheel that had to be fixed. there has been so many things wrong with car its unbelievable i went to trade it in and finding out that we paid 45,000 for it brand new now its only $20,000 at the max we can get for our awd acadia with most of the bells and whistles. now it is lacking power in acceleration again merging on highways or pulling out in traffic the car lulls out and sounds like its stuck in neutral and it finally kicks in and goes very dangerous i could of been rear ended the other day because of this it was a close call. *tr
03/01/2008 - 16,000 i wasn't able to steer, power steering is completely out on the middle of the road 12/01/2008 - 32,000 - misfire in the 2 engine cylinders and was making lot of noise, dealer took 5 weeks to fix the problem 06/01/2009 - 41,000 issue with the engine making noise at start, had to make multiple trips to the dealer 06/01/2011 - 66,000 water pump leaking 03/01/2012 - 72,000 brake control failure 06/29/2012 - 76,000 broken wave plates, evaporater solenoid, and transmission failure most of these issues are very common in this model, gmc need to recall and fix once for all rather than waiting on the issue to happen on each vehicle. *js
Several issues with this new 2007 gmc acadia. most prevalent is the failure of the gas gauge not reading the gas reading correctly. 1st time noticed and taken for service was 3 mo. old. the gas gauge reads (e) when i've just filled up the tank. dealer replaced 02 sensors. 1 mo later experience same issue. gas gauge reads (e) even when tank is full. taken back to dealer and this time replace (2) o2 sensors and the "sending unit". 2 days later, with the gas gauge reading at half full, the car lunges forward into another gear on freeway in traffic, and stalls. cannot turn car on - all warning lights on. towed to dealer. now states that i need a whole new gas tank because the "baffle" is broken? still at the dealer and is unresolved. this car is unsafe. previous issues: car leaks at the sunroof. not fixed yet lumbar support broken - somewhat fixed but still not like the new ones on the lot. lumbar handle fell off - replaced backup sensors fell off of bumper - replaced seat tracks jerk - replaced both driver and pass. still not smooth but dealer says that's the best they can do. *tr
2007 gmc acadia: when stepping on the gas to accelerate or pass the transmission does not immediately respond (several seconds delay) which causes you to continue pushing down the gas peddle until it engages which usually causes a 10,000 rpm surge. makes it very scary when passing and the acceleration could cause issues when the road is wet or icy. gmc states that the issue is well documented and "normal" for the vehicle. after three attempts and discussion with the service manager who also drives this same model and states how scary it is when trying to pass in his acadia i am looking for someone to force gmc to fix the transmission before someone gets killed. according to the dealership this is a very common complaint from customers and not getting attention from the manufacturer. basically gmc states " here is the fix and now you live with it!" this is an actual quote. i have also spent time discussion with the so called gmc customer service rep. who basically can't/won't get me in contact with anyone who can resolve.(tomeka monroe 1-866-790-5600-ex 31353) please help, brad barger *tr
Noticed a sudden shaking in the car when driving more than 25mph. felt the car was unsafe to drive, so left it at a local tire and auto shop for inspection the next morning. the technician called to inform us that there should be 6 bolts that attach the driveshaft to the front differential. the car only had 3 of the 6 bolts left and of those 1 was bent. they were also all loose. he suspected that they were not tightened correctly at the factory. the car was towed to the nearest dealership for inspection and repair. this car was purchased in 3/07 and currently has 12,000 miles. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 gmc acadia. while driving 25 mph the vehicle would vibrate. the contact heard a loud bang noticed parts fly past the window. the vehicle was towed to the dealer and they stated that all six propeller shaft bolts became loose and the drive shaft fell off. the current and failure mileages were 5,400.
On july 5th 2007 my family and i were traveling in our recently purchased 2007 gmc acadia while on vacation in fenwick, de. and as we were traveling through an intersection our vehicle experience a massive failure. the front portion of the drive shaft, the portion that extends from the transaxle to the rear axle, drop from the vehicle, at speed, and caused the vehicle to loose power while at speed in traffic. realizing the loss of power, we pulled the vehicle safely to the side of the roadway to inspect the vehicle. upon looking under the vehicle, i observed the drive shaft hanging, in the forward position, to the roadway. i immediately called "on-star" who i found to be extremely non-responsive or helpful to our situation. the following day, the tow truck finally responded to our call and upon our direction took the vehicle to hertrick gmc for repair. later that week i ws informed that the "safety ring" had failed and the replacement prt was on indefinite back order. *tr
I leased a 2007 acadia on 5-24-07 and shortly after taking delivery i felt there was something wrong with the transmission and the way it shifted, i notified the dealership about the problem and took it in for repair. they told me they couldn't get the problem to repeat and felt there was nothing wrong. on 6-14-07 i took a trip to florida from michigan and got 11 miles into georgia and the transmission decided to shift into 1st gear going 70 mph. i managed to get off the road and was wondering what went wrong. i pushed the onstar button and they got me to a dealership (newton gmc in tennessee), they done a quick computer check for error codes and found many codes that they didn't know what they were but they said it was related to the transmission. i left the acadia with them and finished my trip to florida in a ford pickup. after 2 weeks the dealership got the ok from gm to replace the transmission. i am still having problems with the new transmission shifting correctly. as of 9-17-07 there is a new software update the dealerships will have to correct the shifting problems for 2007 models, the 2008 models already have the new software in them when they leave the assembly plant. this problem may be on the 2007 saturn outlook because they have the same transmission. *tr
I have had my transmission worked on already on my 2007 gmc acadia the speed control in the transmission has been replaced but i still have a problem with the performance of the car. it is an all wheel drive with an automatic. it will not hold on a hill and searches for a gear or chances several times when it comes to any kind of incline even at 70 mph.i was getting 15 miles to the gallon before the new speed control now i get 13. i have spoken to my dealer several times and he says to wait and soon there should be a update in the software to address this problem i am willing to wait but want it on record that the transmission has problems. this is a new design and is very rough riding. my car has only 5000 miles on it and i have been there 4 times.
