Faulty abs sensor in 2003 ford windstar. both the abs and brake lights on the dashboard starting coming on this past summer. i had it checked at firestone, automasters and the ford dealership. i was told they were all getting a c1185 error code and that the sensor needed to be replaced before they could figure out the problem. the cost at the dealership was $495 for the sensor and another $500 to install. while checking another recall from ford, i stumbled upon a website [http://www.fordwindstarrecall.info/#problem2] that mentioned that others have had the same problem and that the problem could start a vehicle fire. it suggested two solutions: 1) replace the ecm unit and wait for it to happen again at your expense, so save your receipts. always buy ford parts if there is a chance you will be reimbursed. also a ford dealership may be the way to go here. 2) deactivate the ecm high power by removing fuses 101 and 102 so that the abs is always off and not intermittent. and wait for ford to listen to us through your report to ...
The abs and brake light keep turning on and off. this happens as soon as the car has heated up . it is not on when i first start the car it only comes on after i have drive the car for a while. this problem has progressively gotten worse. when i talked to the ford dealership, they acted as if they had never heard of any problems with the windstars abs ecm system. this seems to me to be a major safety hazard. i thought the abs breaking system was an important system on cars! doing some research i have found that it is due a defective part and ford wants to brush it under the rug. now i know why the dealer acted as if he had never heard of the problem before. this seems to be a problem that many windstars are having and they want to ignore it. their seems to be no concern for safety here. i only found out about this problem by going on the internet and asking what was wrong with my van. i hope ford admits to this problem and addresses it so no lives are lost due to poor brake ...

My 2000 ford windstar has bee having problems with the abs. over the past few weeks the brakes have occasionally made a high pitched noise that sounds like metal grinding together. i also happened to be driving down the road the other day and the brakes decided to activate themselves without me pressing them. the abs light also came on the dash. i was unable to move forward because this made me come to a complete stop. i then turned off the vehicle and turned it back on. the light then went out and i was able to continue on my way. this has happened several times since then. ford needs to issue a recall on the abs. *tr
Abs and brake light usually stay on although there is no problem with the system. bought used as ford certified preowned and cannot diagnose the problem. at times the light will go out for a short period of time but no noticeable pattern has been established. the light problem has been ongoing for at least 3 years. *tr
For two years my abs and brake light for my 2001 ford windstar will come on after driving for long periods. i have taken to the dealership and they say nothing is wrong and that if the abs light is on it just means that the abs system won't work. well, driving in snow and ice in chicago without abs is a huge issue. *tr
