wow, my 2003 ford windstar only has 119,ooo miles and i cant believe all the issues! the abs system and emergency brake lights costantly stay on, mechanic said high dollar part. also check engine light will not go off. car hops and jumps, replaced coils and all oxygen sensors and still throwing many codes. dont even feel safe in this family vechile. i beg ford to recall these issues!! *tr

Braking distance suddenly increased. after having my 2003 ford windstar serviced according to ford recall 09s09 i continue to experience my dashboard light for both abs and brakes almost continually on when the car is running. i have been told by the ford dealer that the addition of the fuses to prevent fires was the only thing called for in the recall. but obviously this alone did not fix the problem and i am driving around with no abs. *tr

Intermittent failure of abs module causing red brake light and orange abs light to come on and loss of abs function. this seams to happen more often in hot weather. sometimes the abs can be "turned back on" by shutting off the vehicle and restarting. also rear power sliding doors have intermittent problem to where they will not fully unlock. door will partially open, then get stuck, so that you have to manually push the rear of the door shut in order to attempt to get the door to properly open. worried that doors will not open in case of accident. *tr

Braking distance suddenly increased brake and abs lights come on when going down road. i have replaced the brakes and this still happens, the mechanic says there is a fluid leak around the abs connector system??. door open light stays on and will not allow doors to lock properly. *tr

2003 ford windstar with intermittent (but very often) abs and brake light warning lights illuminated. they will stay on for several minutes to several hours on a longer trip. no known leakage problems, just warning lights which indicate no abs system active (dangerous in winter driving when abs may be called for). ford has been ignoring a multitude of complaints for several years and has been let "off the hook" by the nhtsa as far as i can tell. shame on both parties! *tr

Ford windstar 2003 lx. abs light and brake light on instrument panel illuminate. *tr

2003 ford windstar (vin not included in ford's recent recall). abs control module is intermittently bad and has been since around 50000 miles. this has been a problem (as indicated by the intermittent illumination of the abs and brake lights on the instrument panel). ford had said that it was just brake fluid level a little low. dash. it was verified by a certified independent mechanic that the control module is bad. results in a loss of abs. ford will not replace this unit under recall and will not sell the unit to my mechanic or to me. *tr

2003 ford windstar with intermittent abs and brake light turning on. mechanics get several error codes and are unable to pinpoint decisively. *tr

2003 ford windstar se brake and abs lights on intermittently. the following codes are present: c1226;c1235;c1185;c1198;c1194;c1254;c1246;c1250; and c1242. the mechanic said it appears the abs control module is going bad or is bad at a cost of $700. i replaced both rotors, drums , right wheel bearing, left inner tie rod and my brakes work just fine. the lights coming on are an annoyance and could possibly cause a fire?? *tr

Ecm module defected according to the brake shop. the brake shop pulled the codes and all the codes said to replace the ecm module. the reason i took my 2003 windstar to the brake shop because my brake light, on by dash, comes on and my brakes makes noise like the brakes are on but they are not. this problem is intermittent and the brake light resets when the minivan is turned off. the brake shop said i had excellent brakes and the ecm module is defected. it will cost 600-800.00 dollars for repairs at my ford garage. but i understand as of now, there is no recall for the ecm module, however there maybe a recall in the near future. a recall will be great for me saving me 600-800.00 dollars. thanks*tr

Abs and brake light stays on. abs brakes do not work. *tr

The amber abs warning lamp and the red brake warning lamp on the dashboard have been coming on intermittently since about november 2008. it has become more frequent as of late. additionally, the steering wheel-mounted 'off' control for the cruise control has only ever worked intermittently in the three years we have owned this vehicle. as the vehicle sat parked in the garage over night on september 2-3, 2009, the battery drained (2-month old battery; all connections are fine, and it subsequently took a charge from a charger). i read on ford's recall site that these are all symptoms of the voluntary recall that was issued by ford in june 2008 ''involving speed control deactivation system.' based on all the related complaints on this production model--1999-2003--i am very concerned that ford's design is failing due to improper engineering, not normal wear-and-tear or owner neglect, abuse, or misuse. if the dashboard warning lights are on intermittently due to a design flaw of the control module whilst there is not actually a problem with the functionality of the brake system itself, there will not be any additional warning when there actually is a problem with the abs or the brake system. this needs to be recalled so that the warning system will function as it is supposed to. *tr

Abs and brake light stay on ,2003 ford windstar. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 ford windstar. the contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph the abs light came on. the vehicle was taken to the dealer but they were unable to diagnose the failure. approximately one month ago, the abs light came on and has remained illuminated continuously. the vehicle was taken to the dealer today they could not determine what caused the failure to occur. if the contact wanted them to continue the diagnostic testing the cost would have been an additional $300 or more. the vehicle remained at the dealership and was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 120,000. the current mileage was approximately 130,000. updated 11/05/10. *lj

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 ford windstar. the contact stated that when he started the vehicle, the abs and brake lights would illuminate on the instrument panel and stay on. he had to turn off the ignition and restart to regain control of the vehicle. the vehicle had not been inspected or repaired at the time of the complaint. the dealer, when called, stated that there were no recalls for that vehicle. the contact called the manufacturer who would not offer any assistance. the failure mileage was approximately 38,500. the current mileage was approximately 53,000. updated 07/08/10 *bf updated 07/09/10.*jb updated 7/20/10 *cn updated 07/23/10*jb

My 2003 ford windstar engine caught on fire on 8/22/09. the fire department was called. it was towed to a auto shop by aaa. i was told it was the abs and oil leaked, which caused a fire. *tr

Brake & abs light come on for no apparent reason some time when you start vehicle ,some time when you are driving not using the brake some time when you start to accelerate..once it comes on it stays on until you shut the car off most times it will be off when you restart the car. *tr

2003 ford windstar sel - abs/brake light stays illuminated. the shop technician says this is a common problem among ford windstars and that taking no action could result in a fire hazard. the abs brake module needs to be replaced but the problem could still occur. the answer i was given was to remove the brake deactivation switch and replace it with a plug. this will disable the abs and prevent any brake fluid from leaking which could cause fires. *tr

Our brake & abs lights came on and we took it to the ford dealership to be repaired. they said it was the front brakes and replaced them. we drove it off the lot and the brake & abs lights came back on. now they say it's the abs module (the problem ford needs a recall on). dealership now wants to charge us over $600 to repair this problem, after they already got over $200 out of us to replace the brakes they said were the cause of the brake & abs lights coming on in the first place. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 ford windstar. the contact stated that intermittently the brake warning light illuminated on the instrument control panel which caused her to increase the stopping distance. this braking adjustment increased the risk of a vehicle crash. a local mechanic replaced the brake pads, rotors and stated that in the near future the brake module would need to be replaced to completely remedy the failure. she was in the process of notifying the manufacturer. the failure mileage was 82,694 and the current mileage was 91,326.

2003 ford windstar van. brake and abs light comes on. it came on a lot during the hot weather. dripping and sizzling sound when van is turned off. have not replace anything yet. reading boards to find out what to do. *tr

On-going intermittent abs and brake warning lights on a 2003 ford windstar. the computer code indicates fault code c1185. the ford dealer suggests replacing the ecu at a cost of $800 but ford is not sure if problem will be corrected. a recall was issued for brake fluid leak at the cruise control deactivation switch which is not the cause of the warning lights on my vehicle. the warning lights illuminate on longer drives especially in hot, or wet, or sub-zero weather. *tr

On july 17, gaudin ford charged me $169.95 to diagnose why my abs/brake light was on constantly on my 2003 ford windstar... to this day, the problem has not been resolved and the lights are still on... i now learn this problem can lead to fire in the van and there was a recall october, 2009 but i was never notified of this recall. i feel ford should refund my money and fix the problem! *tr

Bought the car used with 69000 miles from used car dealer. the next morning the abs light and the red brake light went on. dealer says the anti lock break control module needs to be repaired. *tr

Brake light and abs light. *tr

The abs and brake lights keep coming on even though there are new brakes on the vehicle. *tr

I have a 2003 ford windstar and have had problems with the abs and the brake light coming on intermittently soon after buying my van new. i took it to the dealer and it would go out for a few months at a time, but i am a women and know nothing about cars and trusted them. over the years i did my part and had pads, shoes ect. replaced and no one could ever see any problem with my brakes, i tossed it up to a "computer error" until now. both abs and brake light stay on all the time, they squeak, and sometimes feel funny when i am trying to stop my van, so i took it to a garage. the garage put it on the machine to print out problem codes and it gave 10 problem codes having to do with the brakes. the man at the garage was acting funny (maybe he knew about the fire issue) and told me i had to take it to the dealership. it sounded suspicious,so i checked for recalls. i have had no fires as of yet. i don't want to wait until i do have one, and frankly can afford to sink thousands of dollars into a car, when ford made faulty equipment in the first place. *tr

Bad abs module is a problem that very many windstar owners have. so you think you have abs and you do not also alot of windstars have burned. this is a danger to owners. *tr

The brake pressure differential deactivation switch leaks. this causes brake fluid to wick down two wires to the abs brake module. the brake and abs lights come on. the failure occurs on every day driving, especially warmer days. *tr

2003 ford windstar. abs and brake warning lights on. new pads and rotors. lights still come on. problem began happening in june 2009. *tr

Abs and brake lights intermittently on. possible brake fluid leak. *tr

Abs and red internal brake light intermittently light up due to faulty switch. there is an unrelated recall issued for 1998-2003 windstars but it does not cover this particular problem. since the recalls was issued have seen that this problem is rampant among windstar owners. this causes a safety issue as we are told it is just a switch and not to worry but then if there is a problem we are unaware. *tr

Abs control module 2003 windstar light flashes on dash scared of loosing brakes. *tr

Abs and brake lights on dashboard come on for no reason. when these are on my abs system is not working. brakes have been inspected and are fine. *tr

My abs and brake light go on at various times, but is more and more frequent. one place, munro muffler and brake said brakes are fine. h & l dealership said i need 2 things replaced that will cost me a minimum of $1250.00 of which i do not have.( i just returned to a job after being out of a job for almost a year. just catching up and now this.) i may loose my van because i cannot afford repairs on a problem i am seeing as a continued problem in a ford windstar 2003 van. i need immediate help. i did have a auto accident in january 2007 and january 2008, both not my fault. problem started a few months after january 2008 crash....i do not know if could be related. *tr

Brake light and abs light intermittent illumination. occurs without warning. may be accompanied by a brake 'squeal' noise. dealership inspected and could not find a problem. no computer codes stored. no codes present when lights are illuminated. brake fluid level, pads, shoes within specification. *tr

During warm weather, the amber abs indicator and the red brake light on the instrument panel are illuminated intermittently. when these lights are displayed, they remain on until the engine is turned off. when restarted, the abs and brake lights do not display immediately. they typically return within 15 minutes of driving time in warm/hot weather. seldom does this occur during cold weather. no repairs have been made to the braking system other than routine brake pad/rotor service. the brakes appear to function normally during the times when the abs and brake lights are illuminated, although we've never needed to "panic brake" during these times so we cannot attest to the functionality of the abs system's functionality. *tr

Abs and brake light come on dash because my son-in-law said there is brake fluid leak toward the back right side of the engine. when it is hot weather or the engine gets hot the abs light comes on. this has been a problem before. it has happened two times since i bought the van. my dealer closed for business and i need to get this fixed. *tr

Brake light and abs light comes on after a few minutes of driving our 2003 ford windstar. started happening intermittently in july 2008 but now just about every day. ford dealer inspected the vehicle on 5/13/09 and found hydraulic control and electronic control units need to be replaced. est cost nearly $1,300. *tr

2003 ford windstar abs and brake lite comes on and goes off at times. i bought the car 5 months ago, i don't know if it had this problem before i got the car. *tr

Abs and emergency brake lights turn on. tends to happen in warm-hot weather or when the vehicle has been running for over 1 hour. abs brakes don't work. emergency brakes work. *tr
