2002 ford windstar axle repair failed. golf mill ford in niles, il repaired my ford windstar in late 2010 after inspecting it. golf mill decided to patch and not replace the axle. on july 6 the tire kicked out and started to slide in patch bracket. i called ford and they instructed me to take to original dealer who done repaired and to keep all receipts for work done for possible reimbursement. dealer looked at axle and said they have had similar field problems and ford has been replacing the axle and repaired had internal code stating they axle repair did not "expire". when the repair request was submitted to ford for authorization, ford declined. the service manager was shocked and i was told that ford said the program was declined for the program met its obligation and i was told to keep the receipt for it would be necessary for future reimbursements. golf mill ford in niles, il made the repair and "good deal" labor rate to assist in the bill and for this i thank them. however, i am shocked the ford is aware of field failures in a poorly designed field fix and has chosen not to properly remedy the first attempt at a fix. i have pictures if necessary! *tr
The abs and brake light keep turning on and off. this happens as soon as the car has heated up . it is not on when i first start the car it only comes on after i have drive the car for a while. this problem has progressively gotten worse. when i talked to the ford dealership, they acted as if they had never heard of any problems with the windstars abs ecm system. this seems to me to be a major safety hazard. i thought the abs breaking system was an important system on cars! doing some research i have found that it is due a defective part and ford wants to brush it under the rug. now i know why the dealer acted as if he had never heard of the problem before. this seems to be a problem that many windstars are having and they want to ignore it. their seems to be no concern for safety here. i only found out about this problem by going on the internet and asking what was wrong with my van. i hope ford admits to this problem and addresses it so no lives are lost due to poor brake performance! *tr

Braking distance suddenly increased due to abs and brake light on all the time. i took windstar sport 2002 in for a safety recall in dec 2009. they said that they fixed it and for the past 8 months these two lights keep turning on and off about 3 times a week. now for the last month, the light have been on constantly. i am concerned for vehicle setting on fire at any time due to this last recall and now a new recall of rear axle corrosion. i have a disabled 5 year old and i am very concerned. i would like these items fixed properly. obviously, the last recall was not. the thought of my van setting on fire with my child in it did not occur to the mechanic maybe. i learned of the last recall not being fixed properly by investigating this new recall. i honestly couldn't figure out why my lights were staying on and ford said that i needed an oil change maybe. i just had one done at the beginning of the month so that is not the case. i did own a 1996 windstar that burst into flames in 2005 february way before the recall came out in 2009. i have told them 3 times that it has already set on fire and there is no van left but they keep sending me notices for it. i would like my current vehicle fixed right the first time. it is a safety hazard especially since it would take longer to pull my child out of vehicle if it set on fire spontaneously while in it. i use my vehicle daily to transport my child to different therapies. *tr
First time i was riding on a major highway doing about 65 mph and i heard a loud crack followed by a rubbing noise coming from the rear of the car. when i looked in the rear view mirror their was smoke coming from the back. i pulled over and my rear tires were pointed inward and the axle was broken in half. that happened around february 2010. i had it replaced from my mechanic with a used rear axle and the same thing just happened again on july 8th, 2010. after talking with my mechanic, he said his parts supply guy is getting a lot of requests for these axles. *tr
My 2002 ford windstar van gear shift pin keep coming up and i have to take it to a shop so they can put the pin back in 3 times. my gears do not shift right it shifts hard. i brought this van brand new in 2003. also my air bag light stays on the avis ford body shop said my sensor is rusted out, also my abs light stays on. i don't feel these things should go out. i have had many ford vehicle brand new for years and never had these problems. i still got to get these things repair. i also had two front windshield wiper motors put in and the wipes are still not right. is there any help out there. *tr
Abs brake light comes on all the time when i'm driving the 2002 ford windstar sel. it started last year. i've replaced all the pads & shoes and bled the brake fluid. but it's still on. i've read many complaints about this online and wanted to add my complaint to the list hoping for a ford recall. *tr
My wife has a minivan that i had the tires replaced on within the past two years. i purchased a set of 4 high quality michelin tires with 75k warranty from sears at fair oaks mall in fairfax, va. earlier this year my wife had a blow out and i took the vehicle back to sears for them to inspect the tire. once they removed the tire there was no indication of a puncture anywhere on the tread or sidewall - i was a tire repair technician back when i was in college. i asked the technician why the tire would have blown if there was not a puncture, he didn't have an explanation. i asked if that should be covered under the manufacturer warrant and they seemed unwilling to help. i ended up buying another tire for $150.00. then just this weekend as i was driving i heard a hissing sound coming from the left front tire. when i got out of the vehicle i noticed the tire was leaking air from the valve stem. i took the tire in to have the valve stem replaced and they mentioned to us there has been a recall on valve stems. i believe the previous incident was also caused by a valve stem issue since there was no other indication of a puncture. i'm planning to have all of the valve stems replaced on the remaining tires so that my wife will not suffer a blow out with our 3 children in the van. i think there needs to be a greater campaign on this issue to increase awareness as it could potentially impact all 4 tires on a vehicle. *tr
2002 ford windstar with inoperable cruise control, odometer, a/c temp. control, abs light remains on and other related electrical malfunctions. vehicle is leaking brake fluid and i have no doubt i'm experiencing the same problem thousands of other windstar owners are with a contaminated "brake pressure differential deactivation switch". is ford taking responsibility for this manufacturing defect and providing a fix - without charge??? *tr
I purchased new 4 tires from sears auto center in dulles, va on 1/46/07 which they installed on our 2002 ford windstar. my wife, 3 year daughter and myself were traveling on interstate i81on 4/24/08 with this ford windstar experienced a front passenger side tire blow out. it was a good thing i was the driver and not my wife as this could of been tragic!! i quickly pulled it on the highways shoulder after traveling at 70 mph. i replaced the blown tire with the temporary spare. we then proceeded to have it replaced. the sears auto center in winchester, va told us they did not carry that exact tire and did not have one with the same speed rating and can not legally install one the doesn't match the rest. we needed to get home to our two children who were coming home from school, therefore, we were forced to purchase two new tires along with fees associated with doing so. we didn't know what caused this tire blow out and the sears technician was baffled as he said he found no holes or puncture in the blown tire. the two front tires are now new and the two rear tires were still in place from the original 4 tire purchase on 1/6/07. on 6/12/2008 we experienced a sudden loss of tire pressure on the passenger side rear tire and the tires valve stem was hissing from a sudden crack that had formed. i had the stem replaced at walmart in front royal, va. on 6/27/08 i had the last of the original tires have a sudden valve stem failure causing instant pressure loss. i was now suspecting the valve stems must have a major flaw and requested that the walmart technician give me the failed valve stem after he replaced it. after i returned home from getting this repaired, i researched on the internet for any tire valve stem recalls and i discovered the tech international recall under your investigation campaign id 08t018000. i have saved this remaining stem with the part number dill-acp tr413 on the base. *tr

2 times over the past 3 years we have turned on the air conditioner in our 2002 windstar and the car has lost power and stalled on the highway. the compressor failed and seemed to seize causing significant loss of power and the car to stall while on the highway. this is the second time and each time the air conditioning system needed to be replaced. the first time it happened the repair was covered under warranty but this time the repair cost more than $1100. the failure caused a loss of power in the car and caused the engine to stall, the steering was stiff and brakes became difficult due to lose of engine power. *jb
During the summer of 2003 while driving one evening, the rear window of my 2002 ford windstar shattered (believing it to be caused by hooligans, the police were notified). the rear window was replaced by the dealer-recommended glass installers using the oem recommended parts. approximately 18-months after replacement of the window, the vehicle was rear-ended necessitating replacement of the entire hatch. this replacement was made by the dealer. this evening (7/14/05), while the vehicle was parked in the garage, the rear window again shattered.
A car accident occurred on january 9, 2004. car was hit behind, and the bags did not deploy, but airbag light came on. van was taken to repair shop twice to fix light. they came to the decision that a code needed to be put in and could only be done at ford. the van was taken to ford 4 times, and the light still comes on. first they put in code. 2 weeks passed then light came on again. van taken back to ford. it was released to us. after about 5 weeks light came on. they put in the code again. light came back on as soon as we got to the driveway. we went to ford again, and they said there was a problem with module. they replaced the module and a whole new air bag system in july. the replacement was done twice due to the first air bag system was defective, the light came on and stayed on the next morning. a complete new system place in the next day. the air bag light came on again then went out. they said it was okay. light is back on now (march 2005). now ford is telling us that a new module has to be placed in because it has burnt out. also ford needs to find out what is burning out the electrical system? over $500 worth of work to be done and now not covered by warranty from july 2004? we are not sure if the airbags will deploy in case of emergency. and we have small children to transport in the vehicle. spoke to ford dealer in our area. no help.*ak
I owned a 2000 ford windstar. the passenger rear door would, upon closing, slide back open frequently. the dealership constantly said nothing was wrong. finally, we traded in on a 2002 ford windstar. within 1 week of purchase the passenger sliding door began sliding back open upon closing - and would jerk back once closed. we have had it worked on 3 different times. it closes now, but has a rattle in it when driving and when the weather changes it makes loud noises when opening and closing. once in a while, upon cold start, the cd player will constantly rotate back and forth - while radio is on or off-until i turn car off and open driver door. when parking, i can open driver door, push lock button, then push unlock button - get out and close door. the security system will flash, indicating activation. keep in mind, the car is uplocked. if i open a door, the horn will begin blowing. as you can see, we have had out fill of ford. this is a company car and the entire mangement staff is fed up.
Ford motor company main topic: vehicleserviceissues your inquiry: my vehicle was recalled for a repair. i took my ford windstar to bob macxey dealership on 06/03/2011 for recall service. when i took my van in , it ran smooth , i just had an auto starter put on the van this winter and you couldn't even tell when the van was on. i went to pick the van up and was told i would have to leave it overnight to seal/glue. i was told they didn't have a loaner so i had to pay my supervisor to pick me and my kids up from school. when i picked the van up it was riding very rough and loud. this is the van my wife and children use everyday, now it sounds like a truck and it is shaking and vibrating more. i took the van back and spoke with the manager wayne dallwein. he told me i was luck it didn't sound worse than that because it was an old van. i explained to him the van was not like that when i brought it in. he insist there was nothing more he could do. this is the worst service i have every recievedand my van is no a wreck. i even has a rust hole on the side that was not there and something coming from the bottom on the driver side that was not there. i plan to file a complaint with bbb but wanted to try to resolvethis issue fairly first. please do not send anyone else to this dealership. owner: yes vehicle identification number: [xxx] mileage: 17000 vehicle location: inpossession if contacted dealer: yes dealer name: bob maxey owner first name: [xxx] owner last name: [xxx] owner email address: [xxx] owner address1: [xxx] city: [xxx] state:[xxx] [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
When the air conditioner and windshield defroster were turned on the engine seized, which caused the vehicle to lose power steering and brakes. the dealer replaced the air condition compressor twice. ph *jb
