Recently reported SERVICE BRAKES, ELECTRIC problems on 2002 Ford Windstar

Brakes leaking oil onto wires causing odometer and speedometer to not work. *tr

2002 ford windstar abs light intermittently comes on. unable to determine problem. *tr

Brake light and abs wont go off. *tr

Normal driving, abs warning light and brake warning light come on. i turn the vehicle off and the warning lights go away. it is thought that the problem is the same problem that ford trucks had that cause fires under the hood and has been recalled. from what i have read this should also warrant a recall. *tr

Abs and brake light coming on and having no speedometer or odometer reading. when vehicle warms up the brake light will come on. replaced fuses and they will blow shortly after replacing. had smoke and burning smell from under van. light on daily and smoke was when fuse was replaced. removed fuse and left out and smoke and smell stopped. consequences if possible fire and not knowing correct speed and cruise control not working. to correct the problem we have tried to replace fuses and see what is causing problem. can't afford to do all replacement of parts to questionably fix problem. the dealership is not sure what is going on because the computer does not properly diagnose what is going on. according to web-site others are having same problem. feel recall is warranted to help keep the ford windstar families safe and prevent someone's death or injury. *tr

Lost brake pressure, speedometer not functioning properly, no brake fluid in master cylinder, brake light and abs light on, and the brake differential deactivation switch is leaking. *tr

Various warning lights coming on,abs , brake light , odometer reading dashes only and overdrive lights started blinking while driving. electrical diagnosis and pinpoint test by ford found that the fuse blown due to the brake pressure switch leaking fluid through the wiring harness to the speed control servo and melting the servo. two days after the repair, the abs light and brake light started coming on again. tested again by ford dealer, they said it's a faulty ecu module. *tr

My 2002 ford windstar abs and trac active warning light currently on. no abs or traction control. ford dealer says it is the abs control unit. understand this is a common problem with these vehicles. *tr

I have a 2002 ford windstar van. my abs light and brake light stay on all the time. i have replaced the brake pressure deactivation switch once. it seemed to cure the problem for about a month, then the lights came back on. i have read of other people with similar problems that have lead to a fire. i have talked to the local dealer, king's ford, and their service people tell me this is a very common problem. is there a recall on this? if not there needs to be. *tr

2002 ford windstar - abs and brake light come on all the time in warmer temperatures. understand it to be a known defect in the braking module - aluminum housing expanding when warm. no problem in colder weather. abs braking system not active when lights are on. no parts repaired or replaced at this time because of cost and after seeing hundreds of similar complaints with this year/model it appears to be possible recall along with faulty cruise control deactivation switch leaking brake fluid and causing fires. *tr

Failure of the brake/cruise control deactivation switch caused leaking brake fluid to fall into and cause failure of abs module. i am aware that the nhtsa is investigating and i encourage you to demand an immediate and complete recall. this is a serious fire hazard that can happen even while the vehicle is parked in the garage, hours after the vehicle was shut off. please act! *tr

Poor design, placing electrical connection under master cylinder, filled with brake fluid. caused instrument panel to malfunction, including no speedometer, and left the abs & brakes warning light on steady. the connecter that got wet from the fluid is charred. this is definitely a fire hazard. *tr

The abs and brake lights on my 2002 ford windstar come on intermittently in warm weather. the diagnostic codes are c1194, c1185, c1242, and c1095. the problem started last summer, stopped over the winter, and have started again this summer. *tr

Intermittent warning lights on instrument panel. brake light (red) coming on then going off. abs (yellow) light doing the same. we have taken the vehicle in for diagnostic and repair but the problem repeats after only one day. we are concerned after reading several reports of fires and brake failures. *tr

I have a 2002 windstar the brake pressure differential deactivation switch was leaking. i had it replaced under the ford recall. but i am also having problems with the abs and brake light coming on intermittently. also the cruise control does not work anymore. so after reading the article on http://www.fordwindstarrecall.info/ i decided to report this issue i am having. i looked under the care and the module is a ford kelsey-hayes. *tr

I have an intermittent problem- i get message "check traction control". the abs light, the brake light and the traction control lights all come on at this time. when this happens the van appears to drive and handle normal- however the abs and traction control are not functional and the brake light is on. if the brake light is on all the time we don't know if we have a real problem with the brakes. if engine is shut off and restarted the problem may or may not repeat. i took van to garage and checked brakes and wheel sensors. the scanner showed a c1185 code. (problem with ecm; abs control module). from my research it appears the problem is caused by thermal expansion of the ecm board. this first occurred approx june 1st and happens everyday we drive the van. *tr

I own ford windstar lx model year 2002. it is cluster panel it shows brake light (red) and abs brake light (yellow). *tr

I own a 2002 ford windstar sel and my abs/brake light have been coming on intermittently for about 2 years. at this point they are on almost all the time. i have read online that there is a recall, but only if there is leakage and a potential fire hazard. since so many consumers are having issues with these lights coming on (and staying on) i feel ford should be fixing this issue regardless of whether or not there is a potential of fire. i was told a diagnostics and repair of these sensors could be extremely expensive (due to the amount of time involved in locating exactly what is causing the problem). *tr

It appears that i am having a similar problem as other ford windstar owners. i have a 2002 ford windstar which brake and abs light continually illuminates. i have not had to replace anything on it yet, but would like this looked into further as it is a problem for many ford windstar owners. *tr

We own a 2002 ford windstar. we have had the abs light and brake light come on sporadically for the last year and a half. we have had the brakes checked on the car since this has occurred and there has been no cause found for the lights to keep coming on. *tr

Abs and brake light on. *tr

1-1-08, smoke from engine on a road trip, noticed leak from hoses connected to abs, (brake fluid). connector melted and was removed. melted deactivation switch, continual loss of brake fluid, new brakes installed to no avail, continual squeak of brakes. complete loss of brakes over the last few months. almost in two accidents due to complete loss of brakes while my children were with me in the vehicle. the only thing that works is adding brake fluid every other day. replacing fuses continually since. brake light, abs light goes on. causes a short with the cruise control and odometer readings. continual activation of brake light after brake service. melted abs, ecm wiring connector. this needs to be recalled asap to prevent any future problems, and the possibility of someone getting killed. *tr

I have been having trouble with the abs light and the "e" brake light staying on all the time. my cruise control doesn't work any longer since this has occurred. *tr

Windstar 2002 abs ecm failure - abs brake light. in warm weather or when vehicle gets warm , abs system malfunctions. brake pedal fade (right too floor) no loss of fluid. front and rear brakes replaced, master cylinder replaced, brake system bleed, problem still exists. problem identified as "2f2z-2c219-ba - ecm control module". this problem is intermittent but very dangerous when experienced. this is a safety hazard and should be made a recall from ford. the ecm control module is a"kelsy hayes ebc 430" s108198003. many complaints have been made with this unit. i am a class "a" mechanic, this in my opinion is a safety hazard and should be corrected by ford. *tr

Own a 2002 ford windstar. for about 2 yrs. we have had problems with the brake light/abs light coming on intermittently. then we experienced problems with fuses blowing. we would replace them and sometimes they would last 10 min. sometimes 2 weeks. now besides the interior lights not working, the radio, clock, cd player are all not working and replacing fuses doesn't help. there is always an odor of burning plastic and at times smoke comes out from under the hood, but no fire. i have received the recall for the speed control deactivation switch, yet when i called ford to schedule an appt. they told me the electrical problem was something different. i don't believe them a since supposedly brake fluid is leaking and destroying wires. i just want this documented as i do not have the money for a large repair bill. *tr

The abs, brake light and traction control light come on the dash. *tr

I''m reporting this as a fire hazard. the vehicle was in the driveway and began to smoke. the vehicle is in good repair, not neglected or abused. i located the source it was the abs module and disconnected the battery until i could make arrangements with the dealer. i drove the vehicle to the dealership. the abs module had failed and burned the wiring harness. there were no warning lamps or fuses burned. i questioned why there was no warning and shouldn''t there been safeguards in place to prevent such damage. i asked if there were other cases of the same occurrence and the dealer didn''t know. i asked if there was someone else i could contact and they told me i could call ford customer care. the dealer informed me that the dealership and ford motor company are not responsible for the damage caused to the vehicle since the warranty expired and that further damage or fire would result if not repaired. a copy of the invoice for repairs is available upon request. parts replaced: 1l1z9f924aa - kit- brake repair 2f2z2c219ba- control 1f2z2b373aa - valve asy-motulator 1f2z14290ca - wiring asy the dealer has the old parts i call and asked them to hold them for investigation. please investigate my complaint and contact me if you have any questions. i''m also requesting assistance for litigation if possible to recover the cost of the wiring assembly part #1f3z14290ca.

2002 ford windstar abs light & brake light go on & off all the time, 4 different mechanics say brakes are all working correctly and have all been replaced new. ford dealership westlake, ohio has informed me after 1 hour $100.00, that they get other codes and i will have to pay hourly until they find the problems. *tr

Red brake and abs warning lights appear. brakes grind and squeal repeatedly although even though i've spent thousands ensuring the system is operational. *tr

Constant abs and brake light from factory faulty abs module. one of thousands. how about some help. *tr

My vehicle has had the brake light, the check engine light, the abs light on at all times and the over drive light is blinking and now the odometer is blank. we have taken the van into the ford dealership and they have no idea what to do. the brakes squeal and the battery dies often. *tr

Abs light comes on in the instrument cluster panel this disabled odometer reading, speedometer , od(over drive) begins to flash and heater and air condition stops working , in the cjb (central junction box) 15amp fuse keeps blowing out.each time i replace it. note: when i replace the 15amp fuse every component will be operable for only 10 to 30min driving then the abs lights comes back on and every component mentioned will be disable . *tr

Abs light comes on when it rains. goes out when begin to drive. sometimes makes noise. it has been doing this for years. *tr
