This 2002 red ford windstar is reported stolen out of kansas city mo
Rotted rear axle beam , 2002 ford windstar , this vehicle was taken to a near by town ford dealership : ace motors in woodbury nj , for the rear axle recall in 2015 not sure if anything has been repaired or not i was just told by the dealership that the vehicle was inspected and passed and ok to drive but when the axle broke on the driver side i took pitchers and it looks like someone has put on some kind of slave clamps on both sides of the axle that i don't see on other ford windstar mini vans ( see pitchers ) called up the dealership ace motors and they said to bring it up to them and they will have a look at it and maybe it can be put in a claim ticket but again maybe not , it's hard enough to put on a flatbed tow truck with the damage that it has and if some reason they don't put a claim ticket in i can't afford to keep towing this vehicle all over the place so dealership gave me the ford i.n.c company phone number : 800-392-3673 , so i called them and more less they told me there is nothing they can do , one thing i'm happy about is we was going slow in my home town pulling off the main road onto a side road heading to the house when it happened and nobody got heart when it happened even though it was so loud and nosy think it broke a shook and brake lines . 8 / 8 / 2019

2002 ford windstar. consumer writes in regards to safety recall notices never received for vehicle. *ld *js
I learned today there was a recall on the suspension:rear axle non powered axle assembly in 2010. the fix was to place reinforcement brackets (recall # 10v385000), and this was done. since i purchased the van in april 2016 i've had to replace the rear tire 4 times! i asked the tire shop attendant how could this be and upon further inspection he pointed out there seemed to be some repair done on the axle and it appeared to have a crack in it now. he said the tire is leaning slightly inward because of this. he went on to say he's seen many ford windstars with this issue and i should reach out to ford about recalls. i searched online first and found that there was a second recall on the axle assemble (recall # 15v608000). this was about the repair bracket, that it could be installed improperly. i called ford and to my surprise the operator (ralph) said my vin was not apart of the newer recall. i don't believe that to be true if it was apart of the initial recall and had the reinforcement bracket placed on the axle. please help. i was driving when i noticed the problem. i hadn't hit any major pot holes or anything! normal bumps in the road but nothing major. i noticed the issue more when i turned a corner eventually my tire blew out (making a loud noise) and i had to call for a tow. the tire repair attendant said it even looked as if the tire was leaning inward. the picture attached is of the inside of the tire. the part you can't see by looking at the vehicle. *js
Rear axle assembly snapped yet our vin is not on recall list. this was not due to any accident or damage on our behalf this was simple daily in town five miles driving then snapped and not usable. we were driving and turned left and. or even two blocks the vehicle made a snap sound almost like a popped tire. both tired are inward and the vehicle ian now parked due to the snapping of this.
The sweigh bar links have been replaced twice. breaks and rosters too! the tires are new with inlinement and rotation done! i have went through several sets of tires! the vehicle just doesn't drive correctly! the vehicle is also missing with no found reason and will randomly die! it feels very lose and unsafe on the road! the coil pack, plugs and plug wires replaced! all new fluids including antifreeze, break fluid, power steering fluid, oil and transmission fluid! the air filter and other filters! new fuel pump and it's still not right! break light comes on and off and emergency break isn't set nor is it low on fluid! new breaks and caliber and rotor! seriously have invested slot of money in this vehicle! also motor for windows being replaced now! gage hand will periodically go all the way to the right the after a few seconds go back to normal! this started in april of 2017 and is still continuing
The rear axle started to snap in november 2017 when i was driving with my wife and kids in the van. we smelled burning rubber and pulled over. if we had drove any further the axle was going to snap with all of us in the vehicle. ford is refusing to cover all the costs of the repair because the previous owner had the bracket/support put on. we did not purchase this vehicle till march 2017. we want the full cost of the repair covered and the ford dealership's storage fees erased. our bill is currently $1,809.65. we should not have to pay for the repair and the time it has been sitting there while we fight ford to pay the bill. this was not an act of wear and tear but an act of a recall on the manufacturer.
We got a recall on our ford windstar for the rear axle. the axle snapped while we were driving and we contacted yankee ford in south portland in so. portland me. and we had aaa tow it there jame at ford motor company approved the axle to be replaced and yankee ford replaced it and now ford won't pay for it and we haven't had a vehicle for 3-4 weeks. yankee ford is 207-799-5591 and ask for dan brubach. the state of maine attorney general's office tracy thompson 207-626-8851 said i should make a complaint through you. we could have been killed. we can't have our vehicle now as the part had been put on and ford says that this jame never had the authority to request. this . she had spoken with ernie bodman 1-207-799-5591 and authorized it. we are beyond upset and would like to have our vehicle. yankee has tried but ford won't pay them. we were on the road when it happened. luckily we weren't on a highway. yankee ford has the pictures that was taken when jame requested them. dan brubach spoke with randy arnoldi who is the service manager for the boston and above division and randy said most likely it wouldn't be paid. it is not our fault jame approved the work to be done. it had been a federal recall. the last recall was sent out in feb. it said but we didn't get it until march.
My 2002 fors winstar on passenger side had the axle bracket break off and in the letter that was recieved, there was a recall after axle was fixed on the assembly of the brackets. which ford is not honoring
2002 windstar recall i was driving down the road one day to find out all off all the shifters but neutral the van suddenly had stopped going we could not go in drive reverse or anything find out stuck in middle of intersection with cars coming our way this problem is still unknown
Vehicle currently at the dealership for more than two months awaiting from ford customer relationship center to resolve the issue as the dealer wont fix the corroded sub frame instead they want the crc dept send the parts to them, according to crc dept they escalated the issue to the second level but no action until now has been taken...i feel that they're ignoring my request or has been sitting there without taking any action. we almost died on this as the passenger side wheel fell off..i'm trying my luck if you can help us to resolve the issue with them...thanks [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Leaving parking lot at work my car fully accelerated, lost steering and crashed into steel post. inspection revealed both rear engine cradle mounts were completely rusted through causing rear engine cradle to drag on the ground. which caused loss of steering, full throttle and crashed right front of vehicle.
Our van had a recall on the rear axle in 2010. the repair was made by an authorized ford dealer. while returning from a weekend trip on october 4, 2015, and driving on a busy pennsylvania interstate, the rear axle broke in the exact spot of repair. i initially lost control of the car, but was able to guide it to shoulder of road. i subsequently learned there is an extended recall on the rear axle, as the initial repair may not have been correct. car was inspected, and now ford motors said they are not responsible. they will authorize a new axle at a discounted rate of $300.00 to us, and we are responsible for replacing our shredded tire. we also must pay tow fees.
Took vehicle to dealership for routine service. was told that the rear axle is cracked, repair to be $918.63. vehicle was recalled in 2010 for this problem. ford motor company installed brackets and patched the axle at that time. upon calling the company, i was told that the warranty on the patch job had expired and the expense of replacement is ours. we contend that they should have replaced the axle in 2010 in lieu of a "patch job". we purchased this vehicle new in 2002, and have never taken it anywhere but the dealership for service. being in very good condition, with only 88,000, we feel that this is a repair that ford motor company should cover.
The abs and brake light indicators turn on sporadically and remain on until the car is restarted. i have watched for some patterns, but seen few. cooler weather keeps them off longer and when it is hotter out, then they turn on quickly. i might also drive the car for 30-45 minutes before they turn on, and when i restart the car, it is inconsistent on if they come back on or stay off. this has been happening for quite some time and is now happening more routinely than when it first started.
I was not aware that there were recalls on the 2002 ford windstar. my mom purchased the vehicle 3 years ago from ralph thayer dealership in livonia michigan. the abs brake light has been on and now the gauges are just flipping. *tr
From a stop, started making a left hand turn when the brake warning light and the abs warning light came on. there may be a possible leak from the scds which could end up causing a fire. i will have it inspected. *js
Vehicle making strange noise, taken to repair shop. they said frame was rusted and rear end had a crack.
The abs and red brake light as well as the traction control light, and now my battery light come on and off intermittently. the abs system kicks in at unnecessary times making it difficult to stop. the speedometer is now also bouncing up and down intermittently, but no other gauges seem to be affected. *tr
I was driving my 2002 ford windstar at approximately 60mph when it began to shake violently. suddenly the rear axle snapped. i almost went into a spin but fortunately i was able to keep control of the vehicle and not hit or kill anyone. god was watching. the axle snapped to the left of center just like countless other windstars that i have read about.
While driving we noticed a loud popping sound and the car pulled to the side. we stopped at a firestone and they showed me that the subframe had rusted through on the passenger side and the motor mount was completely broken loose. they recommended that we go to ford. we took it to the ford dealer and they said they knew of the problem but our minivan was not included in the recall because it is here in florida. i have serious problems with my spine and the doctor told me that a small accident could be fatal. i called the number ford service manager gave me. ford refused to help. even though the subframe corroded and broke on the passenger side as was the concern with recalled vans, they flatly refused to do anything -- not even provide a discount on labor! since this car is here in florida, it is very obvious that the corrosion must have been caused by a defect in manufacture. i need the van to get to physical therapy and to take care of my family. it is not just that i should pay the $1700-$1800 that ford estimates will be the cost to fix their error and am left without transportation. if i had not noticed the popping sound, i could have had a serious accident and been dead or paralyzed from my neck down!
Van won't go into gear or drive . i don't know if it the corrosion fractures of front lower control arm or transmission . trying to find out if any recalls would be on the van on what's going on with it .
I'm one of the lucky folks that has a 2002 windstar sitting in my local ford lot waiting on the rear axle to come in so it can be repaired. what i wanted you to know is that my subframe is very rusty too. i haven't had a failure yet, but my mechanic suggested i get it undercoated to try to stop it from deteriorating even more. i'm very concerned as it's my wife's car usually, and i think ford should be required to inspect each one of these cars while they're sitting in their lots to determine if failure is imminent (like what they did with the axles). that would be very little to ask and easily done since they're still telling us the axles won't be available till possibly late march. thank you./cgs
Ford motor co. recall #10s13 nhtsa #10v385000 recall inspection performed at casco bay ford yarmouth maine 04096 on 10/01/10. no cracks found. technician removed large areas of paint from rear axle. maine winter weather. unpainted rear axle has rusted badly since inspection. ford motor co. has assigned case #0333002594.
About 2 years ago i have noticed that the abs and brake light would come on sometimes now after driving a few miles they come on constantly now. i spoke to a ford service advisor and was told it would cost me over $600.00 to repair and that there was a recall only for certain states. this does not seem fair to other ford owners to have to pay for something that ford has a default on and seems to be a problem with in a lot of these vehicles. i can not afford this repair and i'm sure most people can not afford. please look into this. *tr *js
My passenger side rear brake pads wear out - down to bare metal each year and i keep asking that they look into it being something other than my braking habits because it is only one brake. i just saw on the news that the rear axle's on my particular make and model are breaking and there is supposed to be a recall. i drive through rural areas long distance and i am very concerned for my safety. i wonder if there may be a connection between the faulty axle and my brake not fitting right and wearing out every year. now i have a strange sound coming from the back of my van either the middle or passenger side and i am afraid i will suffer a terrible accident. i have been unemployed over 2 years because i couldn't get a job while in college and graduated in a recession....i have no credit cards and can't afford the mechanic's charge to inspect it or fix it. *tr
Stopped in visitor center in gettysburg,pa. put van in reverse and it locked up. looked under van and noticed rear axle broke in half. had to tow it home and had local ford dealership install new axle at my expense. *tr
2002 ford windstar; the rear axle broke in two while driving at 40 mph. both tires tilted out, axle cracked a little to the left of center while looking at it from the rear of the vehicle. fortunately my wife was able to control the van. i understand this has happened in hundreds of windstars, and something needs to be done before people die, if they have not already. *tr
I own a 2002 ford windstar. i bought the vehicle new in 2002. it currently only has only 75,398 miles. approximately, 1 week age my wife drove my son to his soccer and baseball practice. while she was driving home with my 2 other sons in the van, she noticed that there was suddenly a problem with the back wheels. luckily, she made it home without any injuries. after she parked the van, she noticed that the wheels were smoking and were slightly turned in. i had it towed to our mechanic. a few days later, the mechanic called and stated that the rear axel was cracked. he said that he never seen anything like it, especially on a vehicle with only 75, 398 mile. he said that he was going to call around and try to find a used part. after a week (of not having a vehicle), the mechanic called and stated that he called everywhere for a used part. however, he was not successful in locating the part. once again, he stated that he never experienced not being able to locate a part. he said that it was probably due to the fact that so many other vehicles had the same problem. he said that he could put a new part on, but it would cost approximately $1,000. i called the dealer where i purchased the van and they stated that since the warranty has expired, there is nothing they could do for me. after doing research and trying to find a used part on my own, i have noticed that i am not alone with this problem. in fact, there is a class action law suit filed against ford motor company. i think that this matter could easily be resolved if ford were required to have a recall to rectify the problem. i realize that i am only 1 of a few thousand that have made this problem known. however, i wonder how many ford windstar owners who have not experienced this problem yet or who have elected to do nothing about it. it make me very furious to know that this problem exists and was made aware of, and nothing is being done about it. how many lives will it cost before something is done? *tr
In september 2009 the mechanic at the dealer where i bought my windstar told me the abs module is bad and that i need a new one and have to go to the ford dealer directly and pay around $800.00 and have it reset by their computer. this has cost me lots of money because i already spent $600.00 on rear brakes because of not knowing this is a common problem with ford windstar.also, immediately after purchasing this vehicle in 2007, the locks on the van don't work. sometimes it locks by remote and sometimes the locks all work, but, the driver side. this is a pain. now, i have a problem with the 'check engine' light coming on and i have had various mechanics try to reset the light and it will come back on again and again! i have spent hundreds on this van to have it in shape, but always something arises. despite the cruise control recall, i have not had any problem with it and use it all the time, but will have to have it done. i wish ford to fix all the problems this type of van has and so i won't have to spend hundreds, again, or i will have to get rid of it, which is a shame because i really love the tv, even though the screen give me problems and the vcr no longer works. *tr
On june 8, 2008, our 2002 windstar experienced the following: abs light went red: brake red light went on. speedometer, and tachometer stopped working. all will require repair to prevent the possibility of fire, crash or break down. *tr
Getting lean code p0171 and p0174. dealer analyzed and from what i can tell it's tsb 03-16-1 (nhtsa sb# 16920) i have searched the internet (as you can) and it's a widespread problem (i know 2 other people personally who may have it). it is my belief that there should have been (or should be) a recall on this defect. in my case, the van will lose rpm's, then "rev" up on cold startup. when it does this, the van executes a "jerking" motion which to me could be dangerous. in other cases, it will stall or nearly stall at traffic lights. *tr
Vehicle was off and parked. smoke from under vehicle. disconnected battery to stop fire. fire at the connection of the abs computer at site of two 40 amp circuit connections caused abs system to stop working. abs and brake light are on all the time, speedometer stopped working, odometer stopped working. i have detailed pictures of the damaged part 2f1z-2c219-ba connected as part of 1f22-2c346-ac. code c1185 was present in the abs computer prior to the fire. *tr
Orange abs and red brake light on while driving 02 ford windstar le . this can cause fire and death according to about 5000 posts on website : http://www.2carpros.com/forum/14-vt49767.html?postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=130. my van has been doing this for a year. *tr
Upon braking the abs light and the brake light comes on (on the dash panel) and stays on until vehicle is turned off. replacement of sensor did not solve problem, ford dealer showing codes dtc 1185,1194,1198,1210,1214,1242,1246,1250,1254,1446,u1262 all related to abs module assembly. *tr
