Problems with 2002 Ford Windstar VISIBILITY

The brake light keeps turning on and off(abs control module problem?). the power window on passenger's side had stopped working a few years ago. *tr

We bought our van in march 2012. by april 2012 we began noticing problems with shifting. it shifts hard. the windows stopped working in may 2012. the lights on the dash for the abs and brakes are always on. the brakes are not very good and the pedal must be pushed hard to get the van to stop. our biggest issue is with the transmission. the mechanic at aamco would not even change the fluid because if he changed the fluid then the transmission wouldn't be able to shift. i don't know the details but i do know that my van is not safe to drive. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2002 ford windstar. the contact stated that heat would not come out through the vents in the front of the vehicle even though the heat was functioning properly in the rear. in addition, heat would not come through the defrost vents, allowing the front windshield to become foggy and reduce visibility. the contact also stated that when the failures began, a clicking noise would emit from behind the dashboard. the vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 113,000 and the current mileage is 115,000. updated 9/13/11 *cn updated 09/28/11*jb

Windows needed motors, which makes it not fun since the front air conditioner/heater went out because of the blend door actuator. another fine example of ford quality! *tr

Front heat not working. was told it was the blend door actuator. this ford windstar was not..i say not built ford tough! *tr

Brake light (red) and abs brake lights (yellow) stay on. i went to replace fuse #10 and it keeps blowing out. speedometer and odometer do not function. cruise control does not work. a/c does not work. the o/d light flashes after about 30 seconds after the vehicle starts and continues to blink until the vehicle is shut off. i took it into a ford dealership today to have them perform the 09s09h recall and it did not change anything. all issues seem to be associated with this 'leaker' scds that was replaced, but that caused further damage to the abs ecm unit causing it to fail. *tr

I own a 2002 ford windstar and had recall 09s09 performed at my local dealership last november and now my cruise control does not work at all. also for the last 6-8 months my (yellow) abs and (red) brake lights come on and off on my dash. my power window on the driver side works only when it wants to and the passenger side window can be rolled down from the passenger side but has to rolled up from the driver side. and last but not least the rear door lock buzzes every time the doors lock which is every time i put the vehicle in gear. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2002 ford windstar. the contact entered her vehicle and noticed thick white smoke inside the entire passenger compartment. the fire department arrived and disconnected the battery. they stated that an electrical fire had occurred. a police report was filed. there were no injuries. the vehicle was inspected by an insurance adjuster, who determined that the rear window wiper motor failed and caused the fire. the vehicle was labeled as destroyed due to the cost to clean the chemicals out of the vehicle, which was more than the vehicle's worth. the vehicle was taken to a local repair shop. the technician stated that the window wiper motor caused the failure. the contact called the manufacturer and her vin was requested. she was later informed that she needed to call her insurance company for further assistance. the failure mileage was 82,241.

Abs warning light comes on then goes off after vehicle shut off for a period of time. headlights dim and interior lights don't shut off at times for a long period of time. sliding door and door locks don't work properly at times and power window on passenger side doesn't open at times. sliding door has opened on it's own at times after the vehicle has been vacated and locked. *tr

I have a 2002 ford windstar minivan. this morning the rear windshield broke completly. there was no impact of any kind to cause this failure. no one was injured, and my insurance will cover all but $100.00 for the replacement.*ak

Vehicle was parked and someone noticed that smoke was coming from under the hood. an electrical fire had started from windshield wiper motor assembly and burnt through motor terminal guide. both parts had to be replaced. if this problem was not caught early extensive fire damage would have occurred. *kb

The heater does not work going to the feet in my van. it pushes air through the other components when selected but never to the feet. *tr

I bought a 2002 ford windstar. it had 53,000 miles on the vehicle. the day i bought the vehicle it was raining and had no reason to roll down the windows and assume the car has electrical problems. the next day after purchase i tried rolling down the window and was unable. i left a message with the sales dept. now they say they have no record of this. since this day i have experienced various electrical problems (lights shutting off, doors not wanting to lock/unlock, abs brake lights on, gas on empty although i have a full tank) i brought it to the dealer for repair states there is a $100.00 deductible. i feel as though i should not have to pay this, you sold this car to me unsafe. i was told they did not know the lights were intermittently going off/on. so i said you guys are selling cars that are not thoroughly checked prior to selling. manager told me they just didn't know. but at the same time is unwilling to take care of repairs. i informed these people of this problem the very next day i bought the car. is this considered a lemon or what? *nm

Dt: the contact stated that there was a leak inn the windshield while driving in the rain. water came through the left driver side area along the top corner. she took the vehicle to a dealership for inspection where she was referred to a glass repair shop. the repair shop said the entire front windshield would have to be replaced. the windshield wiggles to the touch. there are no visible cracks or blemishes. no explanation why this happened. no repairs or corrections at this time. *ak

During the summer of 2003 while driving one evening, the rear window of my 2002 ford windstar shattered (believing it to be caused by hooligans, the police were notified). the rear window was replaced by the dealer-recommended glass installers using the oem recommended parts. approximately 18-months after replacement of the window, the vehicle was rear-ended necessitating replacement of the entire hatch. this replacement was made by the dealer. this evening (7/14/05), while the vehicle was parked in the garage, the rear window again shattered.

My wife entered the car through the driver door. after starting the car, she heard a loud "pop". then felt a cool breeze and noticed the rear window was mostly gone. a semicircle in the center of the window had blown out. the rear windshield wiper was hanging inside the van. the window had not been cracked or scratched and there was no ice on it. the temperature was around 45 degrees.*ak

While driving, in inclement weather the windshield wipers would come on and go off intermittently. the dealer was aware of the problem. the mechanic informed the driver that the windshield wiper motor needed to be replaced please fill in additional information. *jb

When braking at any speed steering wheel vibrated heavily. dealership repaired the front rotors/pads, but this did not resolve the problem. *ak had to change wiper blades one week later, they were rotten. transmission problems, had to drive in 2nd gear all the to the dealer, also has a strong clunking while putting vehicle into any gear. *bf

While waiting at green lightand without any warning rear window shattered. *ak *mr

I owned a 2000 ford windstar. the passenger rear door would, upon closing, slide back open frequently. the dealership constantly said nothing was wrong. finally, we traded in on a 2002 ford windstar. within 1 week of purchase the passenger sliding door began sliding back open upon closing - and would jerk back once closed. we have had it worked on 3 different times. it closes now, but has a rattle in it when driving and when the weather changes it makes loud noises when opening and closing. once in a while, upon cold start, the cd player will constantly rotate back and forth - while radio is on or off-until i turn car off and open driver door. when parking, i can open driver door, push lock button, then push unlock button - get out and close door. the security system will flash, indicating activation. keep in mind, the car is uplocked. if i open a door, the horn will begin blowing. as you can see, we have had out fill of ford. this is a company car and the entire mangement staff is fed up.

While opening the drivers side sliding door the consumer heard a popping noise then the rear window shattered. the dealer was notified. *nlm

The windshield wipers extended beyond the vehicle's windshield. the consumer feels that this is a safety hazard. the blades are not stationary and need to be tightened regularly. the manufacturer and the dealer are aware of the problem. *nm during a winter storm, the wipers worked fine then all of a sudden the wiper arm and blades started moving to the left of the windshield completely off the windshield on the driver's side of the vehicle. this distorted the consumer's wife's vision. *sc *jb
