Problems with 2000 Ford Windstar ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The rear axle hair line began to crack at around 90k miles and is severely crack now at 97k miles and awaiting parts. the part looks to cost around $500.00 not including installation. the gauges on the car are wacky and seems to work at will and the abs light continues to come on. *tr

I have a windstar and this morning i lost the speedometer, ac, cruise control, and the abs light came on. i found this site linked from several others this morning when searching for solutions to the issue. most of the sites listed issues caused by a faulty cruise control deactivation switch. i took the van to mechanic and the cruise deactivation switch had been leaking fluid and caused a short and fuse #10 to blow. i have had the switched replaced and the engine cleaned from the brake fluid. the van is now functioning again but would like to report this issue and find out if this is going to be recalled by ford as it is a potential major safety issue with others failures having caused fires. *tr

My minivan has started acting strange with lights flickering inside and on the dash board. i am also having problems with the brake lights not being on from time to time and the headlights having gone out. i only found this out when turning onto a dark street with no street lights one night coming home and saw no lights from my vehicle and only darkness. i was terrified thinking no other car would be able to see me . as i saw other cars coming down the (neighborhood ) street, i would pull over to keep from having them run into me. i got home and parked the car and refuse to dry it anymore at night until i can figure out what is the problem. no one can seem to figure it out and says this is a defect with ford and some type of wiring harness. i have bought a new battery, had the vehicle checked by a mechanic and even put on a machine and there have been many "guesses" but no definite fix. i do not have the money to try to fix the "guesses" and still not resolve the problem. *tr

Under normal driving conditions, i began to notice my abs light would intermittently illuminate. i took my vehicle to my local authorized ford dealership and i was told my abs module was faulty along with the left front wheel speed sensor. i was given the following results, c1155 - lf speed input fail c1185 - power relay circuit fail other codes below are caused by c1185 and c1155 c1144 - wheel speed sensor rr tone ring tooth missing fault c1198 - abs inlet valve coil lf circuit failure c1210 - abs outlet valve coil rf circuit failure c1214 - abs inlet valve coil rf circuit failure c1233 - speed wheel lf input signal missing c1242 - abs outlet valve coil lr circuit failure c1250 - abs inlet valve coil lr circuit failure recommend replacing abs ecu module and l/f speed sensor. the failure was intermittent over the past year but over the past month the abs indicator lamp is always on. the issue has not yet been corrected as i wanted to look into the issue more. some quick searching on google quickly brought up that i am not an isolated incident but one of many. i had found on many websites that c1185 is related to the expanding and contracting of the heatsink on which the abs ecu is mounted. the result is the abs ecu fails to power on correctly due to the stress placed on the sensitive electronic board. i am assuming that the l/f wheel sensor is a separate issue but with a bad abs ecu, it could possibly be related. *tr

Cruise control stopped working, heat went out, odometer stopped working, speedometer stopped working, rear blowers stopped working, rear wiper stopped working, brake light came on. we replaced the brake fluid and changed the pads, this seemed to fix the problem momentarily but then the brakes stopped working again and the gas hand began to move slowly also. the brakes squeal really bad when stopping and turning and they have to be pressed to the floor in order to make the van stop. *tr

Ford windstar brake, abs brake, cruise control, and speedometer/odometer electrical problems; all these problems are caused by a brake leak from "the brake pressure differential deactivation switch (2b264) located under the master cylinder (behind the air filter). this leak also causes brake fluid to wick down two wires to the abs brake module (2c219). the fluid accumulates on the (always on) power connectors for the abs brake system which are powered by fuses 101 and 102 and are both 40 amp. the fluid attracts moisture, road salt and leads to a fire when the fluid and moisture act as conductor between the hot leads and ground. this switch has been the subject of other ford recalls, just not the windstar van yet. it is happening to almost every ford windstar model years 1999 - 2003. thank you very much for your cooperation. hernan ardila *tr

Experienced blown #10 fuse in 2000 ford windstar today, 2/25/09. lost speedometer, odometer, abs light on, lost cruise control, a/c blew hot air. replacement fuse blew upon turning ignition to on. found leaking brake pressure switch beneath master cylinder. i disconnected the pressure switch and fuse #10, which restored speedometer, odometer, and the abs light is out. the fuse held for a brief test drive. will replace pressure switch. *tr

2000 ford windstar- the #10 fuse keeps blowing continuously - apparently due to faulty/leaking brake cylinder- leading to the #10 fuse to short out & blow. i now have no instrument cluster what-so-ever! this should be a recall, as it is a huge fire hazard. i now have to purchase a kit to fix the problem (that they graciously came up with since so many owners are having the same problem!). *tr

Abs and/or traction control sensors are on 24/7. dealer states i have to pay for diagnostic. this causes a problem when applying the brake in snow and rain. brake system does not function properly. i have consequently lost control of the vehicle and have had to swerve to avoid accidents. *tr

My abs brake light came on, but all of my sensor lights have been malfunctioning. they couldn't find anything wrong; just said it was a bad sensor. then the cruise control quit working. last week my brakes locked up on me and i almost hit a school bus. i took the van in and the mechanic said there was a leak in the break line caused by the electrical system that caused everything to fail that had been recalled by ford. we contacted ford and they said there was no recall they said they only recalled this part on f150s. this is a major problem the mechanic said. we had two fuses to blow the horn won't work; the electrical system is going haywire. the thing that concerns me the most is the brake system, but they say it is all related. we are having it repaired now. when i locked up my brakes i balled two brand new tires so now i have to buy two new tires that are less than 4 months old, because ford refuses to fix this problem. *tr

While driving the abs and brake light came on, the odometer displayed only dashes. after doing a google search, was able to identify the problem as a leaking brake pressure deactivation switch xw7z 9f924 ba. switch was replaced along with #10 fuse and all problems resolved. internet research provide the link to this site for reporting. *tr

Sending unit under front of brake master cylinder leaks. corroded wiring harness of transmission causing erratic operation and a warning message about the transmission. could have caused an engine compartment fire or a locked up transmission while driving. *tr

First indication was the abs light, then the #10 fuse blew losing the odometer, a/c, etc. turns out the brake pressure deactivation switch is leaking brake fluid causing things to short out. i now have to replace that switch, cable and some parts on the abs. *tr

Back in 2008 i was involved in a fender bender (about $6,000 in damages) when my abs failed causing me to slide into another car. at first i thought it was minor issue, but have since been told it's a major issue with many owners. i've found that the recall (09s09) does not address all the underlying issues and the ford dealer will not fix all of the issues. additionally i was told by my local ford dealer that there were no open items on my van for abs. when i inquired what that meant, they said that there was nothing on recall for abs on my vehicle. i had never had anything done to the abs, so it was not because it was already fixed. a week ago, i was almost involved in an accident because of the failure of the abs system; i was only going 40 mph. i constantly have my brakes checked because i have to press them hard to work. the rear brakes are almost new, and the front (pads and rotors) are new so the brakes should work better than they do. since there are major reports of problems, this needs to be addressed by ford. *tr

Noticed cruise control does not work in july 08, not sure for how long as i do not use this feature. started to lose brake fluid about a year ago, added brake fluid on 9/14/08. 9/16/08 abs light came on & stayed on. odometer & speedometer stopped working. decided to check recalls and complaints, was amazed at the number of similar problems, but yet no recall. mileage was 81,000+. no abs brakes and not knowing your speed are safety issues. i had a 95 ford windstar which ford bought back from me due to equipment failures at 45,000 miles but i had to buy another windstar. ford should provide a recall and fix these problems. i planned to drive this car for several more years, now what am i going to do. this car requires new brakes almost every year. there is definitely engineering problems that ford should be responsible for fixing. i had a huge repair bill at the ford dealer about 4 years ago, i think it was the rear axle. *tr

We received this vehicle as a gift, about a week or two after the vehicles odometer, speedometer, air conditioning and heat stopped working. it kept blowing the fuse for this. we have change the fuses multiple times sometimes we get it in, turn on the car it will blow or putting it in drive and it will blow. a couple of weeks ago the van started smoking and we smelled something electrical. we had 3 of our 4 kids with us, it really scared us. we have taken it to a mechanic and he located the problem finally, it is a faulty switch --apparently ford never recalled these vehicles the brake fluid drips on to the switch which is located on the bottom of the master cylinder and drips on to the wires, which causes the fuse to blow and can cause a fire (the mechanic has known of two burning to the ground). why should we pay $95 hr for labor plus parts with a job that take 4-5 hours to do?! this is something very dangerous!! i heard they have a kit to fix the problem but if you aren't mechanical why should be have to pay for it?! i feel something should be done about this. the mechanic told us a recall has been on these but when we called the dealer they tell us no recall is on our particle van. any website that helps you repair these shows and tells about the cost involved and the huge risk of fire! can something be done? we don't have the funds to fix this. thanks! *tr

My 2000 ford windstar abs, cruise, control and speedometer/odometer light came on. took to ford dealer said the pressure switch and pigtal splice in harness was defective. also the ecm, electronic control module was defective. the deal replaced the pressure switch for $302. to replace the ecm was $1200 and couldn't afford to replace. abs system not working as defective. *tr

I own a 2000 ford windstar and for 2 years, my brake have been on, speedometer has not worked along with cruise control and mileage reader. beings its due for inspection, my husband has researched the problem and has found that the abs switch is to blame. the connection is covered in brake fluid under the master cylinder and is shorting out the entire system, along with others on fuse #10. we discovered that this is a common problem with the 2000 windstar and that it could cause a severe fire and jeopardize the safety of us and our 3 kids. *tr
