Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. when the vehicle was started, the rpms increased and the fuel cap and check engine warning indicators illuminated. when the vehicle was shifted into drive, it lunged forward. the dealer and manufacturer were not notified. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 125,000.

When driving my 2005 ford taurus or parked wirh engine operating, it hesitates and accelerate on its own. i have taken it to a ford dealership and after several hundred dollars for a fuel injection system cleaning, i was told they could not duplicate the problem. this issue has been going on for several years now.

The car will start accelerating while parked going up to 4000 rpm, it will also while driving accelerate without foot being on pedal. please call me if you can help [xxx]. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

While in park, rpms surge at 2000 until shifting into drive or reverse. while driving, barely touching the gas pedal the car gains speed quickly without having to use the pedals, have to keep my foot on the brakes the entire time to keep it steady - its accelerating by itself and takes a lot of effort to keep it stopped. almost caused me to crash 3 times today out of the blue, once while at a red light with foot on brakes the rpms ran up to 3000 and tried to drive through the brakes, and twice while on city streets it accelerated from 20 to 50 in seconds, causing me to nearly miss a vehicle in front of me. why my model vin isn't included in the recall i don't know, because looking at everything online regarding the 05 taurus my car has all the same issues, which weren't disclosed to me upon purchase because the original owner had no idea. current mileage 186k.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. while driving 25 mph, the vehicle inadvertently accelerated as the rpms increased. the contact was able to move out of traffic, stop the vehicle, and shift into park; however, the rpms were still high. the contact turned off the engine and restarted the vehicle, but the rpms remained high. the contact repeated the steps three times before driving the vehicle while slightly depressing the brake pedal. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a cruise control cable failure that was causing the throttle to stay open and inadvertently accelerating the vehicle. the contact stated that the repairs were unknown, but the independent mechanic informed her that he placed an unknown substance on the cable to keep it in place. the contact was concerned that the failure would recur. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was approximately 168,000.

This vehicle was in motion on a busy street. it slowed down, sputtered, and would not move.it was in gear (d) drive. i was able to coast it off the main street to safety.the engine light and the check transmission alerts were on. accelerator seemed stuck as well. there are only 77,000 miles. i am told that the transmission is gone. there are more that 170 complaints concerning this car. ford needs to take responsibility and repair these transmissions. some owners have been on the highway. i was fortunate,i was only on a busy street. turning was also difficult. nhtsa please do something before someone is killed.

The timing in the engine is flawed, yhe car stahas periodically.

Accelerator would stick at a high rpm when stationary as well as in motion. this would occur erratically. the idol control valve was replaced twice before the mechanic noticed the cruise control cable was not connected. the cable was removed and not replaced. the idle control valve was replaced a third time with a motorcraft part.

While idling, the car suddenly accelerated on its on, and reached 60 mph before it could be braked down.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. while idling, the vehicle's engine revved without warning. the contact depressed the accelerator pedal until the engine stopped revving. the failure also occurred while driving. the contact felt that the vehicle was unsafe to drive and was fearful of a potential crash. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the failure mileage was 110,000.

2005 ford taurus with 53,000 miles has a problem that the engine accelerates on it's own while driving. the engine also revs up to 4000rpm in park on its own. vehicle must be turned off and the accelerator must be pressed hard to "reset" the problem. based on research online and previous investigation by the nhtsa, this appears to be a common complaint and issue with this model year.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. after starting the engine, the rpms revved extremely high. on several occasions, the engine would not start and the check engine light illuminated. the cause of the failures was not diagnosed nor repaired. the vin was invalid. the failure mileage was 200,000.

As i tried to slow for a traffic light, the car continued to accelerate. i managed to bring it to a stop with the brake, but the engine continued to rev and i could barely keep it from lurching forward. i tapped on the accelerator and the engine went back to normal. at the next light, it did it again. this time i put the car in park and the engine revved to 4000 rpm. i turned the car off, but when i turned it back on, the engine was still at 4000 rpm. i tapped on the accelerator a couple of times and it went back to normal again.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. while operating the vehicle, the engine would suddenly rev very high and the rpm's increased without the driver pressing the accelerator pedal. while driving at various speeds, the vehicle experienced unintended acceleration. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the ignition coil, idler air control valve, and oxygen sensor were faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure continued. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 147,000.

Car will accelerat on its own . very difficult to get stopped. once its stopped and put in nutral or park will rev up4000 to 7000 rpm. have been extremely lucky not to have hit anything. has happened on several occasions. very scarry and dangerous situation . made a complaint to ford. car has been to ford dealer twice now withno fix thus far

I saw a recall notice in the news: 06n07 7807 for my vehicle powertrain control module pcm recalibrating for the flex fuel. i never received any notices by usps and have lived at the same address since 1984. i had the taurus into two different ford dealerships for service and no one mentioned the recall. as i am retired military my vehicles are always kept in top condition for travel at anytime. i was refused service on the taurus ( tow different ford dealership had completed work on the taurus, without taking care of the recall) the service rep stated that the time for repair had passed. no wonder ford motor company stock is down in the time passed, (i have service bills that show that two different ford dealerships and i do have starting problems with the e85 fuel. i am wondering if other consumers have the same problem with the lack of notices for recall. i just want another dealership to repair the problem and make a customer and shareholder happy...updated 08/27/15 *bf

20150705 0940 as i was driving about 25-30 mph the car started accelerating on its on, i tapped on the brakes, there were no deceleration of the vehicle, as the car continued to accelerate. as i was coming to my left hand turn approaching other vehicles i realize that i was not going to be able to stop the car as long as the car keeps accelerating, therefore i executed the turn prematurely to avoid a possible accident. as i entered onto the street i turned on to i pumped the brakes several times and the car continued to accelerate. i continued to press the brakes and slowing the car to about 5 mph and released the brakes and the car taken off again. i placed the car in neutral and revved the engine several times and the engine speed came back down to idle.i just had the vehicle at the butch oustalet ford dealership (20150512 with a written and oral description of the problems with the acceleration, engine shut-off, stalling . i was contacting by them informing me about the cruise control cable, windshield wiper water hose broken as well as bill for over $1000.00 to repair.as i researched online last night to find out there has been a issue related for this same problem, and that nhtsa has contacted ford about this, but given them the opportunity to handle it in-house, a recall was never issued of this potentially death trap at the cost of the consumer.on the invoice there is a limited warranty for certain parts, but there is no warranty for misdiagnosing, wrongful charge, intentional fraud and abuse of customer expectation, not to mention integrity of the dealership.what i have read online regarding nhtsa investigation is , it is going to take several deaths related to this issue before positive corrective matters are taken before the consumers receive the justice that is needed.1965 mustang issues, still in denial. *tr

Traveling on interstate highway at 70mph. suddenly the transmission gears disengage and there is no more acceleration. i coast to the side of the road. engine is running, but the vehicle will not move when shifted in any gear (forward or reverse). towed to nearest ford dealership. they suspect torque converter and/or full transmission failure.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. while driving over 55 mph, the vehicle accelerated independently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where they cleaned and lubricated the throttle body. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 57,000. updated 10/18/2017*cn

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 20 mph, the vehicle accelerated independently to 55 mph. the contact applied the brake pedal on multiple occasions; however, the vehicle continued to accelerate. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the cruise control cable became disconnected from the throttle linkage which locked the speedometer at 55 mph. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 196,560.

I have a 05 ford taurus with the same exact symptoms as the previous year taurus had wich lead to a recall. my cruise control cable will come off the throttle body holding the throttle open and revving at 4 grand when pit in neutral to resolve the issue. after a week of disputing with the car dealership, they finally fixed it at no charge. *js

My 2005 ford taurus experienced sudden acceleration last night when i was turning into a parking lot. the engine revved up to about 4,000 rpm and i had to apply the brakes to try and keep the car from speeding up. i was able to park the car and turn it off. when i started it again, in park, the engine immediately sped up to about 4,000 rpm again, with no pressure on the gas pedal. when i tapped the gas pedal, the engine slowed back down to normal. i have not tried to drive it again since then. *tr

I was driving to the store down curvy, mountain road when i slowed down to cross a railroad track. then when i came out on the other side the car suddenly accelerated and just wanted to keep speeding up. i had to down shift and ride the brake to try to get it to slow down. i was doing 40 in a 35 zone and it just keep wanting to go,go,go. i put mt left foot on the emergency brake and was barley able to keep from going through a stop sign into oncoming traffic. as i pulled out i tapped the accelerator and from that point on it seemed to go back to normal (thankfully because i was then approaching a 15 mph school zone.) ford and the government have known about this problem since 2007! what are you people waiting on? are you going to wait until somebody dies from this defect before you deem it worthy of a recall? you need to fix this now!!! which one is more important to you, profit, greed, quarterly statements, or a human life???? *tr

Sudden acceleration problems. *tr

About a month ago while driving on the freeway, after accelerating, the vehicle wanted to keep accelerating. i maintained speed by braking. i pumped the gas pedal a few times which seemed to fix the issue. this occurred a few more times over a months period. the beginning of july 2014 the same thing happened but pumping the gas was ineffective. i braked and pulled off the road. i put the vehicle in park which made the rpms go quite high and then shut the engine off. i looked under the hood and found a cable disconnected going to the throttle which i believe is part of the cruise control. i reconnected the cable and was able to drive home. today i went to the ford dealer to discuss the issue. they gave me the contact info for ford owner and i opened a case. ford said there is currently no recall for this issue. currently the car seems ok but the problem is intermittent and im not sure if the cable will disconnect again. incident was a bit nerve racking but could have been serious if i needed to bake quickly. *tr

I was driving my 05 taurus today and i noticed that i did not have to push the pedal to keep going. i let off the gas and the car kept accelerating and i had to brake to slow down. i put it in neutral and the engine whinned out at 4000 rpm's. i had to hit the gas pedal two or three times for it to settle down. it would go okay for a while and then start up again. i wondered why my brakes were wearing down so fast. this is my wife's car and she normally drives it all the time. she did not tell me it was acting up because she thought she broke it! thank god she did not have a wreck. i have deemed the car now undriveable till it goes in the shop. this is a very dangerous situation and ford should take care of it. *tr

While driving with my two young children in the car on the freeway, i noticed that i seemed to keep picking up speed even after i had taken my foot off the gas pedal. i first attempted to push and pull on the gas pedal thinking it was stuck but no success, i then attempted to pull off the freeway and turn the engine off but the car would not come to a complete stop while pushing the brake. i then placed the car in neutral and attempted to stop, still unable to come to a complete stop. i slowed down as much as i could and threw the car in park, with the engine still attempting to go! i immediately turned the car off and had aaa come out to assess the vehicle. i do not understand why this has been an ongoing issue for so many of the same vehicles and nothing has been done for years!!! its better to be proactive and have the part fixed than to not fix the issue and have accidents from this issue! *tr

The vehicle begins to accelerate and will not slow down unless the vehicle is completely turned off or i brake the vehicle the entire time. the rpm rises to 4,000 and will not decrease while in drive. *tt

I was driving and coming up to a 4-way stop at an intersection. there was a truck stopped at the sign at the intersection in front of me. i applied the brakes and was nearly stopped when the engine of my car began revving on its own. i pressed harder on the brakes but felt the car edging forward still and thought for a moment i had lost my brakes. since my foot was on the brake pedal i put the car in park, stopping it from running into the truck in front of me. the engine revved for a few more seconds and then the needle dropped on the rpm dial back to normal. i put the car in drive and completed my trip home without further incident. this is the second time this has happened. the first time was nearly a month ago but i thought it was a fluke, that perhaps i had some how stepped on the gas pedal as well as the brake. i do not believe that is the case now. *tr

The car will accelerate by itself from the gas pedal sticking-- total transmission replacement now there is difficulty steering left or right, which forces the vehicle into extremely wide turns or use of excessive force to get wheel moving. -the car will rev/chug excessively while idling at a light, forcing me to turn it off several times for fear of something happening. --car has been checked several times by auto shops and they always claim the car is fine yet i have all these difficulties with it. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. the contact stated that the engine warning was illuminated. the failure continued to occur over a period of one year. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the technician stated that the massive air flow sensor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was reparied but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximated failure mileage was 100,019.

While stopping at a red light my car was wanting to accelerate and not stop the engine was revving up rpm about 4000 had to put the gear in neutral then hit the gas pedal a couple of times for it to stop, a short time later it did it again. *tr

Earlier in the week, the accelerator pedal on my 2005 ford taurus got stuck and would not function. hitting the brakes slowed the car. when car was put in neutral, the engine raced. i immediately took it to a repair shop and they could not replicate the problem. it worked fine for a few more days, but happened again yesterday. *tr

Vehicle accelerates on own. this usually occurs at speeds of 20-35 mph. rmps also surge significantly. it is difficult to bring the vehicle to a stop when this occurs. the problem is intermittent.

Sitting at a red light, waiting our turn, car accelerated thru the light! had to put it in neutral to stop it. after that numerous times the car would accelerate while driving. our mechanic has worked on this issue for over 9 months, keep thinking found it, drive a week or so, then it would do it again. *tr

While my daughter was driving at posted speed, engine revved excessively and needed to do heavy braking to get vehicle stopped. problem went away after stopping, turning vehicle off for a couple minutes than then restarting. about 10 miles earlier, tried to use cruise control but it never worked (could not set it). on friday 8 june, while daughter was driving in buffalo, mn, symptoms occurred again. i don't know if my daughter tried to use the cruise control this time. she was able to drive the car the 8 miles to home and park it in the driveway. several hours later, when i started the car, while in park, the engine rpms was 3500. tapped gas pedal a couple times and engine stayed revved. then turned off car and started it and engine rpm was back to normal. i drove about 10 miles, including trying to use cruise control, without incident, though the cruise control still never worked (would not set). on wednesday 10 july, in albertville, minnesota, while my wife was driving 30 mph, she noticed that it was very difficult to get the car stopped at 2 different stop lights. then about a half mile from the second stop light, while driving 40 mph, she was not able to stop her car for a 3rd stop light and had to drive through a red light, this time with several passengers. she was able to stop the car with engine revving and after tapping the gas pedal several times it returned back to normal. she was not trying to use the cruise control. *tr

We was driving and the car started to accelerate on its own and continued to accelerate @ faster speed till about 75 mph .. we was going 40 mph on our own to start .. we had to brake the car but it seemed the more we brake the more it would go .. but we did it @ force till it stopped , and squealing brakes and put it in park and the car sound as if i was pushing pedal to floor and i turned it off as is .. so i opened hood went to throttle and moved the cage on it then i heard a click and started it up and it was fine ..now 5/20/13 it does it atleast 1 a day and my cousin who is mechanic said put it in neutral and give the gas a little push to get it to release .. and call ford to see if there's a recall .. i called and they said there isn't a recall to have it service asap because it dangerous .. but my thought is if there is a lot of people with same issue why wouldn't it be on recall due to severity (fordforum.com). *tr

2005 ford taurus wagon accelerates all on its own. happens on freeway going 65. happened while coming to a stop light, brakes had a hard time stopping vehicle. can get up to 3000 or more rpm's at any given time on its own. very scary and very very dangerous. *tr

Car began to accelerate on its own and would not slow down when foot was removed from gas. it responded to the brake, but then revved up to 3000 rpm on its own, with my foot off the gas pedal. it was hard to stop. this happened in speed ranges of 0-60 mph. after car sat for 8 hours, i turned the ignition on and it shot up to 3000 rpm. i shifted into gear and the car accelerated on its own, without my foot on the gas pedal. i called aaa and the tow truck driver found the plastic clips on the cruise control cable disconnected from the throttle. he reconnected the clips but they seemed to be too loose and easily came off again. the car was towed to a aaa car center, where the technician replaced the cruise control cable and idle air control valve. no issues since the repair. *tr

Several times since april 1st, my 2005 taurus has suddenly accelerated on its own. in order to stop the vehicle i had to constantly apply and then ride the brakes. i also had to put the car into neutral. *tr

Was pulling out of a parking lot and hear a loud exhaust and heard it dragging. looked under car and the catalytic converter broke off at the front flang behind the mounting bracket.. order a new one from auto parts wear house .com for $137.78 better weld then original part. *tr

Throttle will stick and car will continue as if on cruise control. it is a random event. so far, have had the throttle cable replaced, fuel pressure "thing", and had the throttle body cleaned, and throttle continues to randomly stick. *tr

Driving down the road when i accelerated the car continued to accelerate after i took my foot off the gas pedal. this happened to my girlfriend earlier when she drove the car. i was able to stop the acceleration by stomping on the gas pedal twice very hard. my girlfriend had to shift into neutral when it happened to her. this is an ongoing problem with this car and happens randomly at different speeds and conditions. when it happens the engine revs to about 4,000 rpms when shifted into neutral before going to normal. i did some research and discovered that as of march 2012 there were over 395,000 complaints about this and that the nhtsa was investigation. this is a common problem and well documented. i am a ford fan but am very disappointed this has not been addressed properly especially in the wake of the toyota recalls for similar problems a few years ago. i contacted the nhtsa this morning to discover that: nhtsa campaign id number: pe12005 "a safety-related defect has not been identified at this time and further use of agency resources does not appear to be warranted. accordingly, this investigation is closed. the closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that a safety-related defect does not exist. the agency will monitor this issue and reserves the right to take further action if warranted by the circumstances. " i am asking that this case be reopened before someone is killed and that ford be forced to do the right thing and issue a recall if they won't do it voluntarily. *tr

Vehicle accelerated unexpectedly and speed continued to increase even though i removed my foot from the accelerator. i put the vehicle in neutral - the engine was running at this point at nearly 4000 rpm - and pressed quickly on the accelerator. this stopped the acceleration and the engine returned to normal rpm. this scenario was repeated two more times before i arrived at my destination. *tr

While driving in a 45 mph zone throttle stuck had to brake hard to slow vehicle down put into neutral, engine rpms in excess of 6000 turned off car waited several minutes before restarting. seemed fine however cruise control no longer worked. upon inspection later on the cruise control cable had become disconnected. reconnected cable, problem recurred in residential neighborhood. reconnected again and again problem of stuck accelerator happened, again in a residential area. *tr

While my wife was driving the car she told me the engine raced and it was all she could do to stop the car. at first i thought she had maybe turned on and set the cruise control by mistake because i could not get the symptoms to repeat. about three weeks later the same thing happened to me. i put the car into neutral and the engine revved to almost 4000 rpms and stayed there for about 15 seconds. had the car checked out with nothing found wrong. has not recurred. *tr

My daughter was driving the car the engine was idled up she turned in the driveway and could not stop the car before it hit a tree. this is the same day i replaced a idle control valve for the third time. *tr

I was driving at 40 mph down the road when traffic slowed down. i released the throttle to apply the brakes and the engine rpms increased and the vehicle would not slow down. i narrowly avoided an accident by applying the brakes as hard as i could and drove into a parking lot before shutting the vehicle off. upon restarting the vehicle, the engine rpm was around 4,000 rpm and would not come down. after pressing the accelerator pedal several times the vehicles engine returned to idle speed. upon further inspection i found that the cruise control cable had become disconnected from the throttle body. i assume that the cable was able to wedge the throttle open and became unstuck once i depressed the accelerator pedal several times. the plastic end on the cruise control cable is not broken but does fit loosely on the throttle body when i reconnected it. i have applied a plastic zip tie to the cruise control cable to keep it from coming off again. *tr

My husband was driving our 2005 ford taurus with the air conditioner on high, he heard a pop and then saw flames coming out of the engine. he was able to get out of the vehicle and call the fire dept. the car went up in flames. the mechanic said the fire started in the air conditioner. the car is a total loss. *tr

I had noticed on several occasions that the gas pedal seemed to stick and the engine seemed to rev and the rpm needle would increase to 3500 or more even though i had my foot on the brake. after a couple of minutes, the engine would return to normal. last week, my cruise control would not work, although i was able to turn on the word cruise on the dash when i pushed the on and set buttons, but the cruise did not take hold. the engine continues to rev up when i start the car and when i bring the car to a stop.. *tr
