We have classified the 507 complaints from 2005 Ford Taurus about VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL into the following categories.
As i tried to slow for a traffic light, the car continued to accelerate. i managed to bring it to a stop with the brake, but the engine continued to rev and i could barely keep it from lurching forward. i tapped on the accelerator and the engine went back to normal. at the next light, it did it again. this time i put the car in park and the engine revved to 4000 rpm. i turned the car off, but when i turned it back on, the engine was still at 4000 rpm. i tapped on the accelerator a couple of times and it went back to normal again.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. while driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle accelerated to 40 mph without the accelerator pedal being depressed. the contact stated that the brake pedal had to be depressed with excessive force and the vehicle needed to be shifted into neutral in order to come to a stop. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 101,500.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. while operating the vehicle, the engine would suddenly rev very high and the rpm's increased without the driver pressing the accelerator pedal. while driving at various speeds, the vehicle experienced unintended acceleration. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the ignition coil, idler air control valve, and oxygen sensor were faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure continued. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 147,000.
While wife was driving, throttle became stuck open causing car to race forward. she applied brakes but had difficulty. she managed to get car to stop but engine was racing. she put into park and turned off. minor damage to front valance due to pulling onto shoulder and embankment suddenly. very dangerous situation. updated 9/15/15*cw updated 2/2/2016*js *cn
As the car gets to about 35-40mph it begins to accelerate causing me to have to tap several times the brake to disengage. the cars accelerator will also many times, stick as if its in cruise control, but the cruise control is off. this week i googled how to fix and saw many complaints, recall on almost 500,000 ford taurus as well as your pursuit to resolve. i would need it fixed before something serious occurs. thank you gor uour consideration.
This is my second complaint on the same problem. in the past week my car started accelerating with the rpms up to 4000. the first time i was able to pull over and put it in neutral. while in neutral i revved the gas but it took a few times before the rpms reverted to normal. i experienced this in the past a few years ago and made a similar complaint. my mechanic replaced the cable and i sent it in to be analyzed. i called my mechanic today and he is sure it is the same problem because it happened again while if was exiting an off ramp from the expressway. this time i put it in neutral again and pressed the gas pedal hard twice and the engine when to normal. this is obviously a defect and a safety issue. i am just happy it is not winter so i have a better chance of controlling this obviously defective vehicle. i am concerned that nothing was done initially and even if i wanted to sell this car i would not want anyone to experience this potentially harmful problem. i am getting this repaired again but i am disappointed that this problem is not important enough to recall.
20150705 0940 as i was driving about 25-30 mph the car started accelerating on its on, i tapped on the brakes, there were no deceleration of the vehicle, as the car continued to accelerate. as i was coming to my left hand turn approaching other vehicles i realize that i was not going to be able to stop the car as long as the car keeps accelerating, therefore i executed the turn prematurely to avoid a possible accident. as i entered onto the street i turned on to i pumped the brakes several times and the car continued to accelerate. i continued to press the brakes and slowing the car to about 5 mph and released the brakes and the car taken off again. i placed the car in neutral and revved the engine several times and the engine speed came back down to idle.i just had the vehicle at the butch oustalet ford dealership (20150512 with a written and oral description of the problems with the acceleration, engine shut-off, stalling . i was contacting by them informing me about the cruise control cable, windshield wiper water hose broken as well as bill for over $1000.00 to repair.as i researched online last night to find out there has been a issue related for this same problem, and that nhtsa has contacted ford about this, but given them the opportunity to handle it in-house, a recall was never issued of this potentially death trap at the cost of the consumer.on the invoice there is a limited warranty for certain parts, but there is no warranty for misdiagnosing, wrongful charge, intentional fraud and abuse of customer expectation, not to mention integrity of the dealership.what i have read online regarding nhtsa investigation is , it is going to take several deaths related to this issue before positive corrective matters are taken before the consumers receive the justice that is needed.1965 mustang issues, still in denial. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle independently accelerated without warning. the contact depressed the brake pedal, but the rpms increased and the engine revved. the contact powered the vehicle off and back on and the vehicle was driven without incident. the failure recurred on three other occasions while driving at various speeds. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the cause of the failure was unable to be determined. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 96,000.
Hello, this is the second time this car's accelerator petal went out of control (ford taurus). on yesterday, i had my daughter in the car and the car started to accelerate on it's on faster, faster and faster. it was so scary my daughter said mommy you are shaking. even while holding the breaks down i was able to slow it down but the car was still moving. this happened previously about 8 months or so ago. that incident was really bad. i had to call 911 while driving down the road unable to stop the vehicle. as i was sliding on my breaks i almost got hit in the back as well as almost hit someone else. this happened in a high speed busy traffice area. i took the car back to the dealer. they told me it was nothing they could do. they first charged me over a hundred dollars to look at it. then when he did a test drive he refunded my money. i still owe a great deal of money on the car. so, i can't afford pay the car note and purchase a new car. i had contacted the ford corporate office. they inform me that not enough fatalities have taken place for them to recall the vehicle. i am unable to go to work and have no way of getting there and no money to pay this car off and purchase a new card. i contacted performance ford on s. blvd in charlotte during the previous incident. they were nice but sent me home with the same car and now the issues are back again. i am terrified to drive my car, recently divorced with a daughter and college. can someone please help me.
Car accelerated without pushing on the gas pedal. unable to get the acceleration to stop until the car was shut off. after parking, i found that the cruise control clip had come off the throttle. .. updated 09/30/15*bf
I was driving on a country road with curves and hills. my car began racing ahead, even though i wasn't pressing harder on the accelerator. i took my foot off the accelerator and it surged uphill, i braked but the engine pulled hard speeding up even faster. i was in drive, but shifted to 1 (low). there was no where to pull over, i managed to make it home and call my mechanic. he replaced the ignition coil and the problem went away until june 26th (while i was away from home on a long distance trip). there would be acceleration and when the floor mat was pulled away and the accelerator pedal was pushed up from underneath with the foot, the problem would go away. this was intermittent between june 26 - july 1. on july 2nd, we were in san francisco in bumper to bumper traffic, when the car would pull ahead, pressing hard on the brake i could barely keep the car from hitting the car in front of me. finally, i managed to pull over and park. when i turned the engine off and back on again, it no longer revved up (3,000 - 4,200 rpm). we drove for 45 minutes, then the same problem started again. we pulled over and got a tow to a mechanic. the mechanic checked everything (including the cruise control cable, accelerator cable, and throttle) he found intermittent problems with (i think, it was a long scary day yesterday and the car is at the mechanics with the paperwork) the throttle (not throttle cable). i had him replace the throttle and halfway home from san francisco, it began revving and racing ahead, brakes were applied, but we could smell the brake pads burning, we were able to pull off safely without incident. after allowing the car to rest for almost 2 hours, it was still revving between 3,000-4,200 rpm's, with an intermittent "thump" lurch. i'm afraid to drive it, i feel like my life is in danger in this car. *mileage listed above is approximate*
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. the contact stated that the engine rpms increased excessively without warning. in addition, while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle suddenly surged forward to a speed of 70 mph or higher. the contact had to shift the vehicle into neutral and then park to maneuver the accelerator pedal and the brake pedal to prevent the failure from recurring. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vin was not available. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 74,700.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. while driving 55 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed and remained stuck causing the vehicle to accelerate. the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence and was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 140,000.
My daughter-in-law was using the car going approx. 30mph, when she attempted to break, but the car would not slow down and the acceleration remained constant (there was no deceleration until the rpms randomly lowered after flooring the breaks for a considerable period of time) almost causing an accident with the car in front. i then had the car checked out and received throttle body work, totaling approx $450.00 including labor. the condition of the car had not changed, upon arriving at my home there was a strong smell of burnt rubber and smoke rising from the front right hood of the car. i then contacted ford and was told to get an appointment with a local dealership. *tr
Accelerated on its own. reached a speed of 60 mph on busy highway. was unable to brake but was able to pull over and put the car in park. after looking under the hood, noticed the cruise control cable had come off. almost had a collision. very dangerous!
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. while driving at approximately 65 mph, the vehicle accelerated independently without any warning. the contact had to engage the emergency brake in order to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician diagnosed that the throttle needed replacement. the vehicle was in the process of being repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 87,000.
My daughter was driving down the road going 35 mph, when there was sudden acceleration and the pedal got stuck. the engine was at about 4,000 rpm. there was no traffic, so she was able to pull over and shut the car off, however, it was extremely difficult for her to brake. this is the second time this has happened, and we recently had the transmission and the accelerator wiring replaced. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 20 mph, the vehicle accelerated independently to 55 mph. the contact applied the brake pedal on multiple occasions; however, the vehicle continued to accelerate. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the cruise control cable became disconnected from the throttle linkage which locked the speedometer at 55 mph. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 196,560.
The gas pedal was stuck and i could not slow down, i put the car in neutral and stepped on the gas pedal hard and the rpms lowered and i could drive normal again, i did a search on the internet and the speed control cable is the cause, sure enough i looked under the hood after my search and it was disconnected and was interfering with the throttle. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. while driving 45 mph, the vehicle accelerated independently to 60 mph. the contact was able to stop the vehicle on the side of the road by shifting into neutral. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be cleaned. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 91,000.
This happened on 3 separate occasions when slowing to stop for a light or because of traffic. the engine would rev and feel like it was putting out more power than it should. if i had bad brakes, i would definitely have hit someone. i would either shift the car into neutral or park and the rpms would shoot up to 4. i had to pump the gas a few times to get it to return to normal. i took it to a repair shop and they diagnosed it as a faulty idle speed motor that was sticking and causing the throttle to be stuck wide open. *tr
I have a 05 ford taurus with the same exact symptoms as the previous year taurus had wich lead to a recall. my cruise control cable will come off the throttle body holding the throttle open and revving at 4 grand when pit in neutral to resolve the issue. after a week of disputing with the car dealership, they finally fixed it at no charge. *js
My car continued to accelerate on its own. *tr

Gas peddle stuck causing car to accelerate. had to apply brake with force and press accelerator to floorboard to get it to unstick. could have caused a serious wreck. *tr
My car continued to accelerate on its own. *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. while traveling 45 mph, the accelerator pedal became stuck and caused a sudden increase in engine rpms. the contact had to depress the accelerator pedal several times and shift into neutral in order to release the accelerator pedal. the contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, but the failure persisted. the vehicle was inspected and it was determined the cruise control cable was broken. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 104,000. updated 12/22/14*lj updated 02/03/15 *jb

On the afternoon of 10/08/2014, owner's spouse was operating said vehicle on a country road. she had just stopped at a stop sign, accelerated and turned onto a state highway. when the vehicle reached approximately 40mph, vehicle began quickly accelerating on it's own. car reached 80mph. in a panic, driver didn't know what to do, so she pressed on the brakes as hard as she could but could only get the vehicle to slow to approximately 40mph. driver made a quick decision and turned into a driveway, shut vehicle off and put it in park. driver called husband. husband told driver to turn on car. car revved up to approximately 5000rpm. husband told driver to put the car in neutral and punch on the accelerator a couple of times. this brought rpm back to normal. this was an extremely dangerous situation, as driver didn't know exactly what to do in this instance and there were many other vehicles on the road. driver just got lucky that she did the right thing. this happens to the car daily. this evening, owner's son checked under the hood and found the cruise control cable was unhooked due to a broken bracket. this evening, owner's spouse checked the internet for possible causes. exact cause was found but couldn't find any recalls for this specific problem. son said to unhook the cruise control module. will see if this solves the problem. *tr
Car accelerates suddenly and rpm stay at 1500rpms when in drive and go up to 3000 to 4000 rpm when in neutral or park. vehicle has to be pulled over and engine turned off to be able to drive it again. this incident has happened twice in the past 4 days. *tr
While driving through a residential area my car began to accelerate uncontrollably. i had to keep my foot on the break to maintain the 25 mph speed limit and had difficulty coming to a complete stop. *tr
The accelerator on my 05 taurus appeared to have gotten stuck. the accelerated on its own without me applying pressure on the gas pedal. i was able to safely get off the road but this appears to be a known issue with this vehicle and ford is doing nothing about it..... *tr
Car has issues of sudden acceleration, seems like a stick in gas pedal, noticed when speed reaches between 40 and 45 mph and then when speed is reached at 65 mph. no explanation for sudden acceleration. does not happen every time car is driven. had taken to dealership and they could not get acceleration issue to happen with them. had checked out 2 times, both times, nothing found. scary when you think you will not be able to stop car when acceleration happens. issue started all of a sudden, first time the first of september, never had any other issues with my taurus, acceleration happened two times in the past week, stood up on brake and was able to stop, but car seemed that it wanted to creep down the road, tried tapping gas pedal to see if it would unstick, didn't work. had to throw in park and cut off ignition. i love my taurus, but i'm really scared to drive it now. i checked to see if recalls were listed for it, but there wasn't. service manager at dealership states they were no recalls listed. seems you can't find cars without some type of issue now. recalls, recalls, recalls, or matters that are in being investigated, manufacturers don't investigate issues reported by public until there has been a serious injury or death due to safety issue with vehicles. *tr
Was driving on road and car suddenly accelerated on its own. vehicle difficult to stop until gas pedal was stomped on. this has happened several times. also the cruise control does not work. this is horrifying, when it happens as the engine goes faster. this can easily cause an accident! *tr
I was traveling at about 35 to 40 mph when suddenly the engine started increasing rpm's and the vehicle began accelerating on its own. it made the vehicle hard to stop. it does not occur every time i drive but has happened 4-5 times and is becoming more frequent. *tr
My 2005 ford taurus experienced sudden acceleration last night when i was turning into a parking lot. the engine revved up to about 4,000 rpm and i had to apply the brakes to try and keep the car from speeding up. i was able to park the car and turn it off. when i started it again, in park, the engine immediately sped up to about 4,000 rpm again, with no pressure on the gas pedal. when i tapped the gas pedal, the engine slowed back down to normal. i have not tried to drive it again since then. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. the contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the vehicle independently accelerated to 50 mph without warning. the contact also stated that while the vehicle was in park the vehicle would rev up to 4000 rpm. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was unavailable. the approximately failure mileage was 150,000.
The problem is sudden acceleration for no apparent reason. the first time was starting from a stop sign and the speed continued to increase have releasing the accelerator. it continued until the car was put into neutral tapping the accelerator which caused the rpm to return to idle speed. the sudden acceleration has occurred several times in the past two week with increasing intervals. the start of the sudden acceleration has began anywhere from 5 mph to 60 mph. shifting to neutral and tapping the accelerator has always returned the engine to idle speed. *tr
I was driving to the store down curvy, mountain road when i slowed down to cross a railroad track. then when i came out on the other side the car suddenly accelerated and just wanted to keep speeding up. i had to down shift and ride the brake to try to get it to slow down. i was doing 40 in a 35 zone and it just keep wanting to go,go,go. i put mt left foot on the emergency brake and was barley able to keep from going through a stop sign into oncoming traffic. as i pulled out i tapped the accelerator and from that point on it seemed to go back to normal (thankfully because i was then approaching a 15 mph school zone.) ford and the government have known about this problem since 2007! what are you people waiting on? are you going to wait until somebody dies from this defect before you deem it worthy of a recall? you need to fix this now!!! which one is more important to you, profit, greed, quarterly statements, or a human life???? *tr
Sudden acceleration problems. *tr
About a month ago while driving on the freeway, after accelerating, the vehicle wanted to keep accelerating. i maintained speed by braking. i pumped the gas pedal a few times which seemed to fix the issue. this occurred a few more times over a months period. the beginning of july 2014 the same thing happened but pumping the gas was ineffective. i braked and pulled off the road. i put the vehicle in park which made the rpms go quite high and then shut the engine off. i looked under the hood and found a cable disconnected going to the throttle which i believe is part of the cruise control. i reconnected the cable and was able to drive home. today i went to the ford dealer to discuss the issue. they gave me the contact info for ford owner and i opened a case. ford said there is currently no recall for this issue. currently the car seems ok but the problem is intermittent and im not sure if the cable will disconnect again. incident was a bit nerve racking but could have been serious if i needed to bake quickly. *tr
I was driving my 05 taurus today and i noticed that i did not have to push the pedal to keep going. i let off the gas and the car kept accelerating and i had to brake to slow down. i put it in neutral and the engine whinned out at 4000 rpm's. i had to hit the gas pedal two or three times for it to settle down. it would go okay for a while and then start up again. i wondered why my brakes were wearing down so fast. this is my wife's car and she normally drives it all the time. she did not tell me it was acting up because she thought she broke it! thank god she did not have a wreck. i have deemed the car now undriveable till it goes in the shop. this is a very dangerous situation and ford should take care of it. *tr
I was driving along and all of sudden my car felt like an out of body experience and was accelerating faster than i was going. i was able to come to a stop after applying the brakes very hard. shut the car off - started it again 2 different time and the tachometer went up to 3 rpm - on the third try i tapped the gas pedal and the rpm's came down. i drove home (approx. 8 miles) safely without any further incidents. i took it to the dealer the next day - i told them what had occurred and i also mentioned that my cruise control was not working. (this is the third time i had trouble with my cruise control) they are replacing the throttle control body and speed control cable. i am now waiting to hear from them to pick up my car. what i don't understand is this - if it is known there is a problem with the gas pedal sticking why has there not been a recall. are you waiting until some serious accident occurs or for a fatality? i am just glad i was not on a congested highway when this happened - it was 9:00 pm at night on my way home after visiting my sons and believe me when i say i was quite upset and shaking when this occurred. i never want to experience something like this again. i wish your association would look into this further so it can be rectified. thank you for your time and attention to this submittal. *tr
The 2005 ford taurus experienced an uncommanded acceleration. the ignition had to be turned off to control the vehicle. similar to nhtsa investigation pe-12-005, the problem was caused by the cruise control cable detatching from the throttle body assembly and interfering with the throtlle assembly, causing the rpms to exceed 4,000. this caused the vehicle to lurch, nearly striking a vehicle in front of the taurus. this is a severe safety issue and has the potential to cause serious injuries or loss of life. *js
The car began accelerating on its own. when i attempted to brake the car would rev and when placed in neutral or park it would rev up to 4000 rpm. this has made me very worried that the car will not stop when it need to since it took much further to get the car stopped. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. the contact stated that the vehicle abnormally accelerated when the brakes were engaged. the check engine light illuminated after the failure occurred. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 135,000. the current mileage was 135,040.
Throttle body/cruise control cable needed replaced for the second time. car accelerated w/o pushing the gas up to 30 mph. this is the second time i have had to have it fixed for the same issue. *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. the contact stated while driving 10 mph, the rpms increased and the vehicle would suddenly accelerated without warning. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 83,400. the current mileage was 83,463.
Throttle sticks at cruising speed, and won't release without kicking accelerator pedal. cruise control cable causing throttle not to return to idle position when letting off accelerator pedal! car maintained speed if not slowed by braking without cruise control activated. removed cruise control cable and throttle works fine, however ford dealer wants to replace throttle body for $400 and not replace cable? this same vehicle also has an intermittent hard shift problem with the transmission between 1st and 2nd gear approx. 5% of the, but runs fine the rest of the time, dealer says it would need to replace the entire transmission for $3300 but vehicle is now valued around that! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 taurus. the contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the vehicle accelerated to 65 mph. the contact had to apply the brakes abruptly. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the cruise control cable was disconnected. the failure recurred and the dealer then replaced the throttle body and the cruise control cable. the manufacturer was not notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 79,000. updated 7/16/14*cn updated 8/25/17*cn
