Recently reported VISIBILITY problems on 2002 Ford Taurus

Dt*: the contact stated water leaked from the windshield into the engine bay, and the heater and air conditioner had problems. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who determined that consistent leaking caused the lower motor to rust out completely. the mechanic also printed out a recall # 03v087000 about the visibility:windshield. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who determined the vehicle was not included in the recall due to the vin.

Recurring problem with 2002 ford taurus leaking water through cabin air intake. results in puddles on passenger-side floorboard and ruined blower motor. needed to replace blower motor and spray for mold in the carpet. *jb

The motors of the two windows on the driver's side of a 2002 taurus 4 door sedan both failed. the ford dealer determined that the motors had failed and offered to replace them at $225 each. charge for inspection was $42. having power windows that won't go down could be a safety problem in some situations. *jb

I have a 02 taurus which leaked water onto the passenger floor board also causing my ac blower motor to short out. i could not get ford to act even though a related recall existed under 03v087000. *tr

Blower motor for defrost and heating system failed after water leaked into housing. requested dealers assistance to correct problem, dealer stated there was no known problem, service bulletins or recalls. replaced by consumer, water continued to leak into interior on passengers side floor. consumer found service bulletin (ford motor company tsb 04-15-3) to correct problem. *nm

Heater blower only works intermittently and only on high!*jb

During the winter the blower makes a weird sound like its struggling but its not. i have read so many complaints that have had problems with the blower and water coming in onto the passenger side floorboard. during a hard rain i also had water come into the cabin of the car and it soaked the passenger side floorboard. *jb

Dt*: the consumer stated the windshield makes a popping noise when cold. there is a nhtsa recall, # 03v087000, regarding the windshield. the vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however, it is not included in the recall due to the vin. also, while pulling out of a parking lot, a loud pop was heard. upon inspection, the front passenger tire was flat. the spare tire was put on and the vehicle was taken to the dealership. the dealership determined the passenger side coil spring broke causing the tire to go flat. both front coil springs were replaced. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated the windshield mounting leaks and there is a lot of wind noise. there is an nhtsa recall, # 03v087000, regarding the windshield. the vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however it is not included in the recall due to the vin. updated 3/28/2006 - *nm

Tl*the contact owns a 2002 ford taurus. the contact stated that water leaks into the passenger compartment from the windshield. the water then leaks onto the floorboards. as a result, mold is damaging the roof of the vehicle and the floor. she notified the ford dealer in her area and they stated that nothing could be done because her vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 03v087000 (visibility:windshield). the vehicle has not been repaired. the a/c, heater, and blower motor have also rusted due to the leak. the failure mileage was 49,000 and current mileage was 88,000.

The blower for the heating and air conditioning stopped working. i removed and replaced the blower motor. the blower motor had shorted out due to water leakage. there was still some water in the motor housing and the metal was rusted, evidence of water penetration for some time. the car is kept in a garage and only has 42,000 miles. i have kept the old part. *nm

No heat/air. no blower function with the passenger side floor soaking wet. happened once last year and then decided to work. now it is shot. how many incidents of a similar nature does it take the nhtsa to have the manufacturer issue a recall or at least a free fix. i see quite a number of blower motor failures listed on this site. taurus brake rotors should also be recalled since they have failed prematurely for as long as taurus' have been made. *jb

10149646. how many more complaints need to be tallied in order for ford to be addressed about the windshield leakage causing the blower motor failures? i see that there are over 20 complaints. ford needs to be ask to extend its vin list to include other cars. this is a safety issue. water leakage into a car is a problem. bad installation of a windshield is a safety problem. water damaged blower motors that will not run other systems is a safety problem. people's floorboards that collect and 1" of so of water is a safety problem. this is not normal wear and tear. *nm

Component: electrical system details: heater blower resistor blew from water injection from cowl from windshield. mechanic stated that cowl was problem. permitted water to get into blower resistor. blower resistor was irreparable. replacement of cowl and blower resistor costs 325.00. cause: defective cowl. result: replacement of both cowl and blower motor. $325.00. *nm

My 2002 ford taurus had water in the front passenger side floor board. we couldn't explain how it got there. we checked everywhere - nothing. then, our defrost and air conditioning system only worked on high. just recently, nothing works. the blower or fan stopped putting any air out. i started doing some research and a ton of consumers are having the same problem with their fords as well. each one described exactly what went wrong with my vehicle -- water on the passenger side front floor board and their ac/defrost system only working on high or not at all. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2002 ford taurus. the contact stated that the front blower motor had become inoperable. the dealer as well as an independent mechanic made two attempts to duplicate the failure to no avail. the manufacturer was contacted and stated that there were no issues with the blower and did not offer any additional assistance. the current mileage was 80,000 and the failure mileage was 40,000.

2002 ford taurus front right side spring broke. *ts ***no answer required*** the windshield had to be re-sealed due to water leaking inside the vehicle. the motor assembly had to be replaced for the heater. the consumer discovered there was a recall for the coil springs as well as the windshield problem that she was experiencing. the consumer felt she should not have been charged for the problems that she was experiencing because of the recalls. *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2002 ford taurus. in 2005, the contact was informed that water leaked into the cowl panel, rested in the blower motor, and caused a shortage in the blower motor. the dealer paid a small percentage to have the vehicle repaired, although it was out of warranty. however, the failure recurred. the contact vacuumed the water from the floorboard. the purchase date was unknown. the current mileage was 83,000 and failure mileage was 52,000.

Dt: 2002 ford taurus, the consumer stated she purchased the vehicle used. she did a car fax report before buying the vehicle and all the maintenance that had been done was done by the ford motor company. this car has ford motor parts on it. when it rains it leaks into the passenger floor board. the water was about one inch deep in the floor board yesterday. the consumer called the dealer where she purchased the vehicle from and they said there was no recall. the consumer had her insurance company to see if there was any recalls. they told the consumer there was the recall number is 03v087000. this recall was on the windshield, leaking. there were also two other recalls numbers 04v106000 service brakes wiring and 02v266000 brake pedal. the consumer wanted to know why her vehicle was not included in the recall. *ak

We purchased a 2002 ford taurus ses new in 2002. the blower motor for heating and air conditioning recently quit working. i took it to the dealership for repair. i was advised that water had shorted out the blower motor causing it to burn up and they had to replace the blower motor, blower resistor and installed a "rainhat extension kit". i was advised that the kit was developed by ford to address the problem of water entering the blower motor and shorting it out. i was billed $374.37 to repair what is obviously a manufacter's defect. i feel that ford should have repaired this defect under an extended warrenty as it is obviously a design defect. the car has been garaged when not it use since it was new. it presently has about 49,500 miles on it.

Windshield is always damp on starting. blower motor ceased working and was repaired for $250.00. wondering about the winddshield leaking? and recall as this will probably happen again.*ak

dt: the contact stated the heater blower motor stopped working. the motor and resistor short out due to rainwater that entered the heater assembly through the venting along the hood of the vehicle. also, the rain water leaked onto the floorboard. he has replaced the heater blower motor twice at his own expense. *ak

Just purchased the car and have(water in the blower case or on the passenger side floor, an inoperative climate control blower motor, a motor that operates on high speed only), have not had car repaired yet but did call ford for complaint.*ak

I drive a 2002 ford taurus wagon, purchased new from the dealer, the warranty is now up. i was driving my car(canadian winter) and turned on my heater. i smelled something burning, and then smoke started coming out from under the dash. i turned the heater off and it went away. i took it to the dealer and they told me that it was a problem where water leaked into the heater motor and froze burning out the motor. now this is going to cost about $400 to fix. it apparently was a problem with taurus built from 2001 - 2003. there should have been a defect recorded on this and a recall done.

Blower of heat and defroster on my 2002 ford taurus ses failed. due to failure, was unable to have windshield defrosted until problem was fixed for over $300.00. motor failed due to defective drainage around windshield which caused water to get in blower motor and destroy it. *nm

My 2002 ford taurus had a water leak in the ac/heater blower during rain storms. the dealer fixed the leak but i have had to replace the blower motor and blower motor resistor twice. my blower quit running again today. motor and resistor need to be replaced again. *tr

Water leakage on the front passenger side. heater failure.*ak

There is water on the front floor, mainly passenger side after a rain. the dealer says that my taurus is not a part of any recall. nhtsa campaign id number: 03v087000 states that 2002-2003 taurus are affected. my windshield, apparently is leaking, but my vin # does show up as part of the recall. the vehicle was purchased used but has not been involved in any accidents. the dealer has only offered to repair the problem for a fee.*ak

While driving in inclement weather the blower motor failed work and the windshield became foggy. this caused poor visibility for the driver. consumer heard a loud knock noise coming from the front. consumer took vehicle to the dealer, and mechanic determined that defroster/defogger motor, and the passenger side lower ball joints needed to be replaced. *ak

I bought my car new in nov 01. i noticed a stale smell and complained to the dealer and they changed a filter. two days later the smell was back. this month, after a heavy rain, there was 1 1/2 inches of water on my passenger floor and water in my heater blower which within a matter of minutes killed my blower on all positions but high. i called ford and they said there was no recalls on my vehicle. i did some research and found that my car was manufactured in oct 01 and there was a recall on the windshield. i took the car to the dealership and they told me it was probably not the windshield put a design flaw and they had a kit that would fix the problem and they would put a new blower in. i informed them that i was not going to pay anything for this they said they would contact the rep. i scheduled an appointment and in the meantime called ford and told them that i was not paying for it because it was a design flaw. i talked with gloria and she took all the information and she told me that she would advise the dealership and also throw in a carpet shampoo and deordorizer treatment. when i picked my car up i was charged $36.66 for a consumer co-pay and i had to pay it or i could not have my car. *la

The blower motor on my 2002 ford taurus works intermittently. the ford dealer claims there is nothing wrong since the blower worked when the car was in the shop. when it happend again the dealer told me that there was a bad "motor. *ak resistor" and replaced it. now after the car was sitting for 3 days in the drive way the blower motor quit again. the dealer tells me there is nothing they can do unless it happens when the car is in the shop and they can duplicate the problem. without the blower neither the a/c nor the heater will work and depending on the weather the windows will fog up creating and unsafe driving condition.

Since i bought my ford in july 2003 i've been complaining about my windshield being defective, the windshield itself has little chips in it (a manufacturer defect in the glass) and i've always complained to my ford dealer about highway noise. 9 years later the "noise" has gotten so bad that i'm afraid that if i hit a pot hole hard enough that my windshield will fall out! also the bottom right corner of my windshield has gotten so bad that i had to stuff tissues to reduce the rattling of my windshield. after doing extensive research on recalls for my car i've found one recall for the exact problem i've been having all these years. please tell me that i can still have my windshield replaced. it's coming to the point that i am afraid to drive my car. ford recall number 03c03, dated march 03, 2003 from nhtsa. these recall notices were sent out in march on 2003, i bought my car from ford in july 2003! . the website that i had found this information: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/acms/cs/documentlist.xhtml?docid=03v087&doctype=rcl *js

The vehicle caught on fire. *jb the vehicle was parked and locked for 8 hours when a noise was heard. the consumer viewed the front of the vehicle on fire. the insurance and fire investigators thought that maybe the fire started in the windshield wiper motor. *scc *jb

The dealership hasn't ordered the parts for the windshield wiper recall 03 v 087 000. consumer has been waiting for a month. *nlm

The heat/ac control on my 2002 ford taurus suddenly started working only on the highest setting, and the air is neither hot nor cold. after doing some research on the internet, i found that i am not the only person to have this problem. the floor on the passenger side front also becomes damp after washing the vehicle or a hard rain. i also have rust inside the blower motor itself, which i am suspecting is from the water leak. *tr

Right power window is in failure. dealer ph

Windshield develops a leak passenger side. i've had the blower motor repaired and the windshield re-sealed but is leaking again. water puddles in the passenger floor. heater looses heat when blower speed is turned up, think this may be related to water issue as well. hope something can be done the windshield is getting loose and dangerous. *tr
