The coil spring on the driver side if ford taurus 2001 broke. *tr

Routine driving is suburbs - back coil spring broke in 2001 taurus - this has been a huge issue and ford is not helping out. there is a recall on he front springs, so they were replaced for free, but the back ones cost my 83 year old mother $1000. please doing something about this. my brother had a 2003 and the same thing happened. no recall, so he had to pay all of it. i once had a 2000 and when it broke it blew out the tire and i almost killed me, my family and about 10 other people on the highway. this is as bad as the toyota thing. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2001 ford taurus. the contacted stated that the vehicle was being serviced for routine maintenance when the mechanic informed him that the front suspension had failed and there was a leak in the power steering pump. the vehicle was repaired for the front rotors, brakes, and the power steering pump. the failure mileage was unknown. the vin was unavailable.

Tl* the contact owns a 2001 ford taurus. the contact stated while driving at 55 mph the contact heard a clunking noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. the contact took the vehicle to a dealer to have the rear passenger side coil spring replaced. a years later when the contact took the vehicle in for an oil change the mechanic at the dealer notice the that both struts in the rear were broken. the contact did not have the vehicle repair because the contact feels this is a manufacturer defect and should be under a recall. the failure mileage was 90,000.

2001 ford taurus - 74,000 miles - both rear springs are broken and will have to be replaced. the mechanic said he sees a lot of these broken springs in the taurus line. he said quite often they will tear into the tire and cause severe damage or an accident. *tr

Rear coil springs and head gasket i didn't know how to describe the head gasket from the choices. *tr

2001 ford taurus. i found a large piece of metal lying on my driveway. i took my car to my local ford dealership and was told rear coil spring was broken. i was told i needed to replace both rear coil springs as well as struts. total bill was 970.00 we were very lucky we noticed the piece of metal on driveway. i understand these broken coil springs are causing rear tire blow-outs! i notified ford motor company and they do not intend to address this issue. *tr

2001 ford taurus model sel . rear coil springs. i purchased this car in 2004 with 35,000 miles and now has 71,000 miles. garage kept, wife drives. there was a recall on the front causing me to have protective shields placed around front coils due to possible blowout if coil broke, obviously some had broke. i had to have both rear coil springs replaced on 2/2/10 at a cost of $390 parts only. i'm 65 years of age and have never had a vehicle with two broken springs on the rear. i submit that one of the coils had shifted and could have blown out rear tire. i don't think dealerships are not seeing these repairs due to age and labor per hour at a dealership. a private mechanic repaired mine and reports having repaired others. i believe these coils on this model are defective , front and rear. nothing has been said about the rear coils or any protective device to prevent a blowout. *tr

Front springs break and cut the tire causing accidents. *tr

2001 ford taurus rear spring failure . the drivers side rear spring broke and ruined the tire . it almost wore through the side wall of the tire . i think this is a real safety problem . i called ford and to report the problem . at this time their are no recalls for rear springs . *cn

Front and rear spring coils are damaged. my husband was backing out of our driveway an as he did, the front driver's side tire exploded. we had the car towed to a mechanic and we were told that the spring coil punctured the tire. we were then informed that all of the coil needed to be replaced not just the front coils. after we found out about the front coils, we contacted ford and we were told to bring it to a dealership because the front coils were covered because of a recall. once we got the car to a dealership, they then told us that there was an issue with the rear coils and that the rear coils were that covered under the recall. i have been doing a lot of research and i have found out that all of the coils need to be replaced. fyi: we have a 2001 ford taurus with 28,000 miles (yes, that is 28,000 miles). i would like a reason why all there isn't a recall on all of the coils, especially since it appears to be a problem with these cars? also, the both front tires are less than a year old. ford needs to step up to the plate and take responsibility before there are more accidents and maybe even deaths! *tr

Front suspension coil broke and punctured side of tire. had this happen to back wheel at considerable expense. hopefully this will be covered under warranty. luckily this did not happen while my daughter was driving on highway to school or she could have been in a critical accident! *tr

We own a 2001 ford taurus with about 28,000 miles on this vehicle. i am handicap and this is the vehicle that we use to get me to appointments, etc. we are very lucky that the front tire exploded while my husband was backing out of our driveway and not while we were already driving on the highway or where ever! we had the car towed to our mechanic and he told us that the tire exploded because of the front spring coil. once we found out the cause, i looked on the internet for any issues or recalls for this problem, and low and behold there is a recall because of the front spring coils. we then had the vehicle towed to the ford dealership that we bought the car from. they are fixing the car now. yesterday we were told by the dealership that there is a problem with the rear spring coils and that they also need to be replaced. there is not a recall on the rear spring coils, even though i have been researching this issue for the last few days and it appears that ford should have an active recall on the rear spring coils. ford needs to step up and issue a recall for the rear spring coils. we have been told the ford will not pay for the tire that exploded (btw: the 2 front tires were just replaced this past summer) and they won't pay for the rear spring coils to be replaced, even though they have to be replaced! i thought that ford made safe vehicles, but i now know that is not the case. ford needs to do something before something serious happens to somebody. i am extremely disappointed!!! *tr

2001 ford taurus rear spring coils. why isn't there a recall for the rear spring coils, when there is a recall for the front spring coils? the same problem happens with the rear spring coils that happens with the front spring coils. tires are exploding! this is extremely dangerous!!!!!!! ford needs to take responsibility for this problem! *tr

2001 ford taurus with 52,000 miles. rear coil spring has snapped. just noticed on the annual state inspection. mechanic said i was lucky that it didn't puncture the tire while i was driving. this should be covered under warranty. the front coil springs are covered by a recall. the rear coil springs should also be covered by a recall. the mechanic said the total cost will be about $900. it is getting repaired today because it failed ny state inspection. mechanic said he sees a lot of these rear spring failures. please consider having ford recall the rear springs. *tr

2001 ford taurus left rear coil spring broke while driving 60 mph, end of broken spring cut and shredded tire. replacement cost for new tire and two new quick struts is costing me $1080.00. ford has a recall on the front springs and would replace up to 200,000 miles or ten years. they know they have rear spring problems but up to now are unwilling to do anything about them. *tr

Right rear coil spring on my 2001 ford taurus broke while driving and damaged my tire. *tr

2001 ford taurus with 68,000 miles was inspected by the dealer, the right rear suspension coil spring was fractured. this item had to be replaced at significant cost to me, not to mention the fact that the tire could have been punctured resulting in an injury accident. *tr

2001 ford taurus wagon with 80,000 miles while driving on route 80 i heard a loud banging sound in the front end - the left front coil spring broke. luckily the protective guards installed last year prevented the tire from blowing up. *tr

I own a 2001 ford taurus which i purchased brand new. it has less than 70, 000 miles and the rear springs completely rotted out. the service station advised me that i shouldn't even drive the car home because the spring could puncture the tire. it cost $850 to replace the springs and the struts. ford recalled the front but not the back. this is a safety issue and ford should recall the back as well as the front springs. *tr

I have a 2001 ford taurus sedan. i replaced the front struts as part of a recall earlier this year. the spring on the front strut broke. a few months after i replaced the front struts, i noticed a noise emanating from the rear of the car. when i got out of the car to see what was wrong, i noticed that the rear of the car was riding much lower than before. i discovered that the spring on the driver-side rear strut had broken, as well. the broken spring had come halfway off of the strut, and the sharp, broken end of the spring was dangerously close to my tire. i still have the strut with the broken spring. i went online to see if other taurus owners were having this same difficulty and found many posts on message boards outlining the same problem. i have now replaced the rear struts. because the rear struts are almost identical to the front struts, and because they are subject to the same failure, i feel that ford should recall the rear struts. *tr

I have a 2001 ford taurus ses. i noticed that the rear end of my car was sitting very low and took it to the mechanic to find out what the problem was. apparently, the rear coil springs are broken due, presumably, to corrosion from salt in northern climate. this appears to be a common problem with this year/model of car. my mechanic told me i was lucky i brought it in when i did as the coils were close to puncturing my tires, which would be very dangerous if this had happened while driving. parts were replaced to fix the problem. there was a recall to have a shield installed for the front coil springs because they had so many problems, but no recall for the rear coil springs. *tr

In march of 2009 i had a front spring blow out on my 2001 ford taurus. at that time ford replaced them under a recall, however ford refused to pay for a new tire which a set of new had been installed in feb. 2009 and the towing bill. now the right rear spring has done the same thing and destroyed another tire. the mechanic at my local ford tells me the repair is 280.00 not including another tire and towing. he also stated to me that ford should have recalled these cars for the rear spring also, because they've had as much trouble as the front. luckily both instances happened at a low speed. i believe it is up to your agency to push for a mandatory recall, before someone driving on a highway get seriously injured or killed! or does the last sentence have to happen first! *tr

My 2001 ford taurus with 97,000 miles on it has one front and two rear coil springs broken. i have been informed that the rear ones are not covered. this car has been carefully driven....and ford won't cover it? were the coil springs on the front from a different supplier? made from different steel? where's the logic in this? *tr

My low mileage 2001 ford taurus had the rear coil spring break while i was driving causing other car damage including ripping open a new tire. all told $600 of damage occurred and if i had been driving faster, my life would have been in danger. *tr

2001 taurus se, while doing a tire rotation, noticed left rear coil spring broken, sharp end was only 1/4" from tire. left front spring broke last year damaging a new tire, spring was replaced in recall but not the tire. how many people have to die before you make them recall these cars with defective springs? *tr

My both front and both back spring coils broke in my car. no-one ever notified me about recall for my car models. i am lucky that didn't got into any accidents. my tires are less than 2 year old and are junk because of the springs damaging them. now i will have to purchase another tires, and it will cost me a money i don't really prepared to spend right now. i found out about recall on springs coil on my car by overhearing someone talking about it. i am really disappointed about that. do ford really waiting for someone to get into accident to fix their problems? *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2001 ford taurus. while the vehicle was at the repair shop, the mechanic stated that the rear quick struts spring failed. the mechanic stated that the springs failed several years ago. the issue with the springs for this year, make, and model vehicle is currently under investigation. the contact feels that a recall should be issued. the current and failure mileages were 115,318. updated 5/15/09 *cn the cost to replace everything was $ 921.03 udated 05/15/09.*jb

My son was driving my 2001 ford taurus. he pulled in to my driveway with smoke coming from under the hood and right side of car. my mechanic said the front spring broke which also broke the strut and shredded the boot. its covered by the warranty. now my concern is the rear springs. why is there no recall for this! apparently ford knows of these complaints and does nothing! please issue a recall!! before someone gets killed! *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2001 ford taurus. while driving approximately 20 mph, the contact heard a loud noise from the rear of her vehicle. she discovered that the coil springs failed, which could have resulted in a crash. she took the vehicle to the goodyear and they replaced the rear coil springs and the struts at the cost of $976. the failure and current mileages were 62,000. updated 6/8/09 *cn updated 06/11/09.*jb

I had my car towed to my mechanic because my tire was shredded. later i found out that the tire shredded due to the failure of the rear coil springs. my mechanic told me that the front was also in poor condition and should not drive the car much longer. i called ford and they told me the front was under recall. i dropped he car off to stoneham ford who told me that since they were not currently "fractured" they would not replace them. they would not tell me the current condition yet my mechanic states they are in very poor condition. ford continued to say that since they are not fractured and no one has yet been hurt, they are not replacing them. no one has been killed yet.*tr

Left rear coil spring broken, no immediate damage to vehicle. *tr

Driving my 2001 ford taurus and realized i had a flat. my husband came to get me and noticed that my rear tire was shredded and my rear springs broke and the jagged metal shredded my tire. i called ford who told me it was covered under something like a recall, but not an actual recall. we drop car off, i then get a call saying it will be $736!!! the service manager said he didn't realize it was my rear tire (not front) when he told me it would be 100% covered. why isn't it covered if all these complaints and they are covering front. my car has a little more than 40,000 miles on it. this was after spending $1200 on air conditioning system last summer and $600 for heater problems this winter. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2001 ford taurus. while driving 5 mph and turning left out of the driveway, the front passenger side coil spring failed and punctured the passenger side tire. the manufacturer had not yet been notified. the current and failure mileages were less than 151,356. updated 12/08/09. *lj updated 12/10/09.*jb

My husband was driving the vehicle when the rear tire blew making the car undrivable. it was towed to a mechanic who found that both of the rear springs had snapped. i was told that had he been traveling at a higher speed he most assuredly would have either been seriously injured or killed. the cost of the repair so far has totaled almost $900 dollars. ford has acknowledged that they know about this problem and my front springs are also about to snap. ford stated that the front springs are recalled but the rear are not because there have not been any fatalities yet. i hope that it does not take a death or serious injury to get ford or the nhsta to make ford own up to its responsibility. *tr

My most recent contact with ford was highly unpleasant and discouraging. i own a 2001 ford taurus with 80,000 miles that had 2 front coil springs and 1 rear coil spring break. i contacted ford customer service to inquire what i needed to do regarding the recall on the coil springs; i gave my vin # to the agent and was told that this car does not have any recalls and ford could not offer me any service for the broken springs. i then contacted airport ford in florence, ky and explained what i was told by ford customer service and the 3 broken coil springs, they told me i could not be helped since ford customer service said that there was not any recalls on this vehicle. recall 04v332000 recalled the front coil springs and extended the warranty to 10 years or 150,000 mile, which this car is still covered. rather than continue driving an unsafe vehicle, i decided to get the car fixed. i had the coil springs, wheel bearings, ball joints, tie rods, drive shafts, and rotors replaced on this car. the 2 broken front coil springs destroyed each of these components by placing unnecessary stress on these components. the rear coil spring was inches away from puncturing the tire of this vehicle; this was an accident waiting to happen. i believe that at a minimum the front coil springs should have been replaced by ford due to the recall and extended warranty on these fractured springs; this cost me $343.12. i feel that ford should cover the total cost of this repair to make this vehicle whole again at my cost of $986.28. ford motor company's response to this complaint will make or break our mutual relationship. i look forward to hearing your response and hope a mutual agreement can be reached. *tr

2001 ford taurus. march 09, 68,000 miles drivers front coil spring breaks and cuts tire down. july 09, 78,000 miles mechanic finds both rear coil springs similarly broken. i had to replace all 4 springs, struts and 1 tire. luckily, the car was not being driven when springs broke on front end. dont know when the rears broke, but sometime in the last 10k miles or the 4 wheel alignment would have discovered the broken rear springs in march 09. *tr

Passenger rear coil spring on 2001 ford taurus broke and ruptured tire. *tr

I own a 2001 ford taurus. approximately 2 years ago, i was driving to work and heard something drop from my car (at a speed of 20 mph). i stopped my vehicle and walked down the road to find, what appeared to be a part from my vehicle. my husband looked at it, and wouldn't you know, it was my front coil that had busted. i took it into the dealership and they repaired it since there was a recall on the front coils. last week, i was on the freeway and i heard something metal-like fall off my vehicle and my car fishtailed (about 55 mph). i stopped the vehicle on the side of the road and found that a coil had busted yet again. this time, the coil that broke was from the rear and good old ford advised that there is no recall on the rear coils---just the front!are you kidding me? so, in short, there is an apparent problem with the coils on the 2001 ford taurus. i have read through about 200 complaints thus far and decided that something as to be wrong with these coils and i feel that it's the companies responsibilities to resolve these issues. please, do no wait for someone to loose a life in order to issue a recall. *tr

Rear coil spring on my 2001 ford taurus broke. *tr

2001 ford taurus has a broken rear coil spring. i understand that the front coil springs are covered under an extended recall due to a corrosion/high failure rate issue. why aren't the rear coil springs covered by this recall? *tr

Ford has a waranty replacement on thier front springs for a ford taurus but not on thier back springs, i own a 2001 ford taurus with 83,000 miles and the both back springs are broke and it was close to punturing the rear tire, if the front springs break and are coverd but not the backs one is'nt it a safety issue as well. *tr

A noise from the rear of the vehicle lead me to look and find my rear coil springs on both sides are broken. i understand there is a recall on the fronts, but not the rears, which makes no sense. from other complaints i've read, i'm pretty lucky. mine broke near the base, and caused no further damage, but many apparently break in the middle and destroy the tire. just about every taurus i see sags in the back. i'm sure there are a lot more out there that people are driving on and have no idea. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2001 ford taurus. the contact stated that the rear driver's side coil spring broke from the vehicle. he took his vehicle in for a routine oil change and they confirmed the failure. the mechanic replaced the rear coil springs at the cost of $1,200. the contact called the ford manufacturer and they stated that they do not cover the rear springs of the vehicle, only the front springs. the failure mileage was 32,000. updated 3/11/09 *cn updated 03/13/09. *jb

I am sending this on behalf of my father who does not have internet access. he owns a 2001 ford taurus that is primarily driven by my mother and only has 26000 miles on it. a few days ago when he was cleaning out his garage he found a piece of metal on floor which he believed was from the car. after taking the vehicle to his local mechanic he was informed that the rear coil spring was broken and needed replaced. after doing some research on your website i found that there is a recall on the front springs but not the rear. i also checked with the dealer where the car was purchased and was told the same thing about the recall for the front but not the rear. i asked the dealer why there would not be a recall for the rear and according to him he thinks there should be but ford has not released one as of yet. both rear springs and swag end links had to be replaced the correct the issue at a cost of about $500. this whole situation is a little disheartening since the vehicle has such low mileage, is a 1 owner, very well maintained and has been garage kept since it was new. *tr

2001 ford taurus with suspension noise while driving. ford mechanic diagnosed problem as front and rear springs broken on 2/2/2009. parts have not yet been replaced. *tr

My passenger side rear coil spring broke. luckily i found the broken piece in my driveway. took it to midas and received a quote to replace both rear springs at a cost of $900. *tr

2001 ford taurus, 112,000 miles. driving about 35 mph on highway interchange, heard loud bang and car pulled left and i gained control and stopped. found left front coil spring broke puncturing left tire. took car to dealership for repair. ford will cover cost of front springs replacement. dealership called and said right spring was broken also and transmission pan was also punctured from broken spring and needed replaced. ford will not cover cost to pay for punctured tire or transmission pan plus fluid. tire had around 300 mile on it. ford garage called back and said rear springs were also broken and not covered under recall from ford. shouldn't rear springs be covered also since breakage was result of corrosion problem like the front springs? also, shouldn't the collateral damage to the tire and transmission be covered also? never received any form of notification relating to this recall. but i had receive other recall for wiring problems. *tr

Broken coil springs in front and rear of vehicle. *tr

The failure is a broken left rear spring, requiring replacement of both rear springs. the old parts are not available. i would not say that the broken spring in my particular case caused immediate danger as the spring was still in the spring seat, however it is cause to fail a pa state safety inspection, and could have become dangerous if the spring was not replaced. the vehicle had 99,600 miles at the time of the failure. i can't pinpoint any specific events other than almost 100,000 miles of use in the salt belt. it is a common failure on the taurus, and mine broke later than many others. the front springs (which have not broken on my car) are covered under recall...the rears should be as well. *tr
