I am having issues exactly as described in nhtsa campaign id number: 04v106000. i have a 2000 ford taurus where the the stomp lamp malfunctions when using the brakes. when i called future ford of roseville, ca in the automall they looked up my vin # and informed me that this recall is not in their list for my vehicle. but that the owner of the vehicle had the stop lamp replaced already in year 2000 for the same symptoms. i told them that this is a safety recall of the same year, make and model as my car with the same exact symptoms as found in the nhtsa recall article. there was not much interest in my problem and was told there is no recall for my vehicle. to me this appears that this should apply to my car also. too much of a coincidence to have the same year, make, and model with the same issues as described in the recall and having the part already replace when the vehicle was less than a year old.

In 2005 i had recall service done on the car. among other things, they replaced the brake light switch. on march 21, 2007, the switch failed again at which point i brought it in for service and was notified that the service for the brake light switch was out of warranty. is the dealer required to replace it again at no charge since it was a recall item to begin with? *tr
Tl*- the contact stated that the headlight knob in her 2000 ford taurus (89000 failure mileage), came off and will no longer stay on. there is a recall (01v078000) out for the same failure, but this vehicle wasn't included.

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle could not be shifted out of park and the brake lights were on constantly when the engine was running. a nhtsa recall, # 04v106000 was performed on the vehicle concerning the brake light switch; however, the recall did not remedy the problem. the dealership would not offer a second repair without charge under the recall.
My car is a 2000 ford taurus (vin number is [xxx]). i have the same problem as the nhtsa campaign id number 01v075000. the headlamp switch knob is fractured and does not correctly attach to the headlamp switch. i went to the dealership in macon, ga, and was told that this specific recall does not apply to my vin number, even though i have the same make, model, and year car. my only option the dealership gave me was to pay $80 to install a complete new light switch, even though all i need is a new knob. i was told that the knob is not sold as a separate part, only as a complete new switch. i would like this recall extended to cars like mine. this causes difficulty for me to turn on and off the headlights. *nm information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Dt*: the contact states there is a nhtsa recall campaign 04v106000 concerning the brake light switch. the brake lights illuminated when the brakes were depressed but intermittently darkened. the switch was replaced twice by the dealer, and the brake lights still did not work properly. the dealership refused to make any additional repairs to the vehicle since the recall work has been performed twice. the failure occurred every time the vehicle was driven. *ak
2000 ford taurus. additional incident re: odi # 10135016 low beam headlights failed after driving 45 minutes. drove to dealer, lights began working. while waiting lights failed again and dealer witnessed failure. dealer replaced multi-function switch with scorched connector-tab and wiring harness connector that had partially melted. *nm
2000 ford taurus headlights failed.*mr the headlight seals failed which allowed moisture to form on the inside surface of the lens. this reduces the amount of light given off by 10-25%. *nm
2000 ford taurus. driving at night, headlights and all running-park lights failed. parked car and idled while trying different headlight switch positions. after about 15 minutes, lighting resumed normal operation. dealer (of course) could find no problems nor cause of the failure. factory customer support was contacted, and have yet to receive call-back. *nm
The headlight swith knob (which is plastic) fractured. the electrical part of the switch is fine but the plastic knob is broken so there is no way to turn the headlights off or on unless you use a pliers.
Dt: 2000 ford taurus station wagon. the headlight assembly was cloudy and got moisture on the inside of the plastic itself. it sweats from the inside. called manufacturer, and asked for any recalls or problems on the headlights. they said no. the only solution for this was to replace the headlights for a cost of $155.00 and with only a year warranty or 12,000 mile. consumer spoke to a junk yard, and they said that this had been a problem since 1985. consumer owned this car since it was new, i, and just noticed this last week. consumer inspected vehicle and could not find any i seal fractures or broken lenses on the light or assembly. *ak
Headlights just shut off when on automatic. sometimes they come right back on and other times they stay off. very dangerous when on dark highway. *ak

Headlamp switch broken...again. i have had this part replaced 3 times. twice within 12 months and replaced during the recall. now it is broken again for a 3rd time and ford has told me that since it was replaced and outside of the 12 months from the original recall replacement that they would not replace it again. i believe someone should make a better part. can you say...metal post and plastic knob don't work well together? sorry ford bad call. what a pain to continually replace this part. i will be looking into missouri's 3x your out lemon law issue now.*ak

Make : ford model : taurus year : 2000 nhtsa campaign id number : 01v078000 recall date : mar 02, 2001 component: exterior lighting:tail lights:switch summary: vehicle description: passenger vehicles equipped with adjustable pedals. if the grease from the adjustable pedal assembly enters the stop lamp switch, it can contaminate the contacts leading to carbon build up, and potentially, a short circuit. consequence: a short circuit could lead to either the brake lamps staying on, or to a loss of brake lamp function, increasing the risk of a crash. remedy: dealers will replace the brake lamp switch and wipe down the adjustable pedal assembly to remove excess grease. owner notification began march 22, 2001. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact ford at 1-800-392-3673. after receiving the necessary corrective repair from the above mentioned recall, my vehicle has encountered the identical problem with the same symptoms. this is the 3rd time that my vehicle has undergone corrective repairs for the same problem. this time, ford and the local dealership said that i must pay for the repairs as ford has been billed for the recalled repair previously. additionally, my tail light stayed on, draining my battery to the point that a replacement battery had to be purchased. i would like to see the problem corrected so that i don't experience this every few years. additionally, i don't feel i should pay for an acknowledged recall problem simply because ford corrected the problem before, to no satisfaction. in addition, i feel i should be reimbursed for the cost of replacing my drained battery. apparently, ford will not take ownership of this continuing problem unless they are prompted to do so by nhtsa. *jb
Rear brake lights and brake pedal shift interlock inoperable caused by failure of break pedal switch. wiring connector assembly also replaced due to melting of wires when switch failed. could have caused fire if not corrected promptly. dealer not surprised, stated this is a common problem with taurus and keeps extra brake light switches in stock. this is not an adjustable pedal model that was previously recalled. brake pedal light switches are defective on non-adjustable pedals. *la
Brake light switch assembly has failed three times in 53,000 miles on my 2000 ford taurus. it was replaced under recall in 2001, i paid to replace it in 2002 and 2003 as the dealership says the reapair can only be covered under the recall one time. when it fails, the lights either stay on and drain the battery or they won't come on at all making it impossible to shift out of park. either way, it creates an extreme hazard as traffic behind you does not know if you are stopping or not. ford's recall was estimated to affect about 179,000 vehicles. if each needs a $17.47 switch each years as mine has and those vehicles stay in service for ten years, that is a tidy 30 million dollar profit for ford. let's just hope no one dies as a result. ford's consumer phone line and dealership were of no help. i have sent a formal letter to ford's customer relationship center, but hold out little hope.*ak
Brake light and shift interlock failure had been recalled once and 'fixed' in 2002; switch failed again and replaced again. *la
The consumer was unable to turn the key in the ignition switch, and to shift the transmission out of the park position. *ak the brake light had become inoperative. the brake lights had come on and stayed on after wiggling the brake switch, it started to work (for 6 months), then on another occasion, the consumer's wife attempted to start the ignition switch and it locked after many attempts and was able to start, but the transmission was locked in park. *scc *jb
The headlamp switch broke off. other taurus had the same problem and there was a recall, but ford says my car was not involved. the exact same thing that happened to these other cars happened to mine. *jb
Brake lights went out. as a result vehicle locked itself in park. dealer notified. *ak the vehicle brake light went out and as a result the shift lever could not be moved from the park position. the consumer stated that this feature was not referenced in the owner's manual nor was there any indication on the dash that there was a failure. consumer couldn't believe this feature wasn't addressed in the owner's manual. a ford service representative stated the safety feature wasn't in the manual because ford thought it was in the best interest of the consumer not to mention the locking in park feature. *ph *nlm
Poor design on brake light switch on brake pedal. the wires that connect to the brake indicator switch are mounted on the front end of the brake pedal. they are positioned 3-4 inches above foot level, a location where the wires are vulnerable to being sheared off with an errant foot. additionally, the wire coming from the wire loom is too short, leading to strain on the wire. the result is the wire disconnects and you lose the brake lights. in our case, the wire held on only by the insulation and would connect when the brake was lightly applied (allowing you to shift out of park), but would fail when the brake was fully depressed*ak.
Tail light is on all the time just like some one is stepping on the brake. dealer notified. consumer stated there is no warranty for this vehicle. *ak
Brake light switch went out while the cruise control was engaged stopping the cruise control. *la
Problems with brake lamp switch went out on 2000 ford taurus. *mr the brake light had gone out which was a recall item. the brake lamp switch had gone out again and the consumer discovered the vehicle would not go out of park into drive but was finally able to get it into neutral and then into drive (g2). the consumer was unaware the brake light was out, which was the third brake light switch in less than three years. the consumer requested a refund. there was noise which had come from the blower motor, and the fuel gauge acted erratic and the fuel pump was replaced. *scc *jb
2000 ford taurus, brake lamp switch always stays on. nhtsa shows that there was a recall for this problem. ford would not honor the recall on my car and replace the faulty brake switch, dealer said my car was not one of the 157,000 cars effected. so i had to pay $213.00 to have them replace the faulty brake switch that was a problem listed as a recall on nhtsa. nhtsa recall no. 01v078/ford recall no. 01s08. *ak
Brake lamp switch malfunctioned. the dealer was notified. *ak brake light switch failed a second time due to oil leaking onto the switch.*ts *jb

Complaint regarding having to pay for something that has been recalled.*mr the vehicle brake light switch failed prior to recall notification. the consumer had an extended warranty therefore only had to pay a $50 deductible for the repair. the consumer call the manufacturer and requested reimbursement but was denied. *nm
The brake lamp switch was replaced on this car under a "safety recall" by ford motor company. they stated that the switch may fail, and could cause the brake lamps to stay lit, or not come on at all. this was done at around 15,000 miles. at 39,000 miles the switch has failed again. the brake lamps will not come on, i cannot move the gear selector out of "park", and the cruise control will not disable when you press the brake pedal. this is an obvious safety hazard, and ford has attempted to correct the problem by replacing the switch, but, unfortunately, the replacement switches are also defective. the defect obviously causes several safety hazards and serious risk of an accident. the worst part is, my dealer has informed me that the recall has already been performed, and i will have to pay to have the recall work done again. ford motor customer service confirmed this during phone conversations with them. this concerns me because you cannot say you have fixed a defect if the defect keeps occurring over and over again. they are responsible for fixing the problem, which they have not done. i have also had a wiper motor cover replaced on this car under recall. this was due to a risk of fire. does this mean that i still have a risk of fire? they told me the recall fixed the brake light problem, but it did not. could it be that my wiper motor may still cause a fire, but it is ok, ford has already fixed it, so they are not responsible? this is very poor judgment. i hope the nhtsa will compel ford motor to find a permanent fix for this problem, and reimburse those that have paid for this repair out of their own pockets. *nlm
The vehicle experienced the same problem with the brake light as stated in a recall that was issued, however the vehicle identification number was not included. *jb
The brake system in our car has not performed properly on wet roads many times. on jan 21st, 2002 and mar 13th, 2002, we asked muzi ford to fix this problem. they could not find the problem. they reported, it is common to confuse abs activation with difficulty stopping". in fact, our car is not equipped with abs. on the morning of jan 17th, 2003, my husband was driving in the slow lane of i-95; the car in front of our car came to a sudden stop. he immediately braked. he was still far away, and the speed was only 45-50 mph, the road was wet and our cars brake system did not work properly and it hit the front car. there are many problems with our car. the emergency brake on/off has been adjusted, the transmission fluid and both front axle seal have leaked twice; steeling fluid has leaked once, the brake light, gas cap assembly and solenoid canister have been replace, and the wiper motor park switch has been recalled. please help us to solve the brake system problem with ford motor company.*jb note: did not count as crash for rq03008 since crash was not due to brake light issue.
Brake lights would not go off even when car would be shut off this is the replacement switch from a earlier recall. the car now has its 3rd switch. dealer said it's not un expected for the switch to fail and it is the customers responsibility to replace it since they did the recall one the cost was 105.34. dt
There is a recall on this component however my car isn't covered. i would like reimbursement since i was required to replace the entire switch assembly and not just the knob. dt *ts
