I have own a 2000 ford taurus se in which the transmission failed. my son was returning home from school when the vehicle decelerated then stopped. the vehicle's engine runs fine but it won't move forward or reverse when placed into gear. conversing with others i've discovered that this isn't an isolated incident. it appears to be a major problem that's being overlooked by ford. this situation is placing customers in dangerous situation, and my family was fortunate that this didn't occur on a highway or proceeding through an intersection. *tr

Water leaked onto the floor boards on several occasions. i have replaced the blower resistor three times, once following the installation of the new cowl and rain hat. *tr

I purchased this vehicle used and have had nothing but trouble since. the main issue is that it has had the potential to kill me,my family and passers by on 4 separate occasions . to start with we replaced all of the pulleys on the vehicle last winter, due to a constant squealing noise that replacing the belt did not fix. this cost a small fortune as we broke several tools (and 4 tensioner pulley's) as did 3 mechanics trying to get the pulleys back on. ford was absolutely no help, they wanted to charge 300 or more dollars to attempt the job, their quote was something like "those things are a pain in the a@# and we never know what we're looking at with labor when we get one in!" after nearly 2 weeks we completed the work and many dollars later only to later discover that when we drive it in the rain the belt comes off! as you can imagine this is not exactly fun when on a country road in the rain with your child at 55 mph and you suddenly have no control of your car. as was the case with me the first time by the time i pulled into my driveway 2 miles later i had something plastic smoking on the right front side and severe overheating issues!!! this has happened 3 times since, once leaving me stranded at wal-mart,once in a friends driveway and most recently after 2 days of rain i decided to take my kids to the end of the raod to the bus stop(this is only re: 80 feet or so away) and i hadn't been anywhere and hit no puddles out of fear, and yet still lost the belt coming back to my driveway. my child had a seizure at school a week and a half ago, 20 miles from me and i had to drive in the rains from tropical storm gustav to a family members house and get a ride to the hospital to be with my child. i am having to say no to work(substitute teaching) when it's raining again in fear of wrecking and or being stuck somewhere and can't sell it because it has these problems. we also have had major problems with the fan's burning out and the front tires wearing down. *tr

Front passenger seat belt stopped retracting and was not usable for the passenger (who happened to be my teenager) i had taken it to be repaired three previous times. was told that it was not a defect and that i had to pay 152 dollars this time to have it repaired since the car is now not under warranty but was under warranty the first 3 previous attempts to fix the problem. *tr

I pulled into my driveway after work and was going to park my car when i heard this crunch sound. i then noticed that the car was sitting lopsided on the rear passenger side and since then the car has been making crunching sounds. the dash lights also went out along w/the heater. it no longer blows cold air it is always hot air and the temperature is at its lowest. this all started w/a vacuum leak. the passenger side seat belt also retracted slow and now it doesn't even retract. this car seems to have one problem after another and all at once. i bought this car for my daughter cuz i wanted her to have a safe vehicle to drive for college, but it doesn't seem to be turning out that way. she is now driving my car because i don't want to have to worry about her on the road. *tr

On 12/2/04 i brought my vehicle to ford for a repair. my cruise control was not disengaging from the steering wheel, i had to step on the brake to accomplish this. the repair was done. i had no further problems with this until aprox 12/14/05. the same exact problem recurred with the cruise control not disengaging from the steering wheel. when i contacted the ford dealer who did the original repair, i was told i would have to pay for the service repair since they only warranted for 12 months or 12,000 miles. i feel this is a safety hazard. clearly a repair such as this should not recur if new parts were used. either there should be a recall for this issue or faulty parts were used. when i contacted ford mfg i was told the same >>>my warranty had expired (by 2 weeks i should add)>>>so i was out of luck. no wonder ford is going under! anyway, that's my issue. please advise. *jb

Make : ford model : taurus year : 2000 nhtsa campaign id number : 01v078000 recall date : mar 02, 2001 component: exterior lighting:tail lights:switch summary: vehicle description: passenger vehicles equipped with adjustable pedals. if the grease from the adjustable pedal assembly enters the stop lamp switch, it can contaminate the contacts leading to carbon build up, and potentially, a short circuit. consequence: a short circuit could lead to either the brake lamps staying on, or to a loss of brake lamp function, increasing the risk of a crash. remedy: dealers will replace the brake lamp switch and wipe down the adjustable pedal assembly to remove excess grease. owner notification began march 22, 2001. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact ford at 1-800-392-3673. after receiving the necessary corrective repair from the above mentioned recall, my vehicle has encountered the identical problem with the same symptoms. this is the 3rd time that my vehicle has undergone corrective repairs for the same problem. this time, ford and the local dealership said that i must pay for the repairs as ford has been billed for the recalled repair previously. additionally, my tail light stayed on, draining my battery to the point that a replacement battery had to be purchased. i would like to see the problem corrected so that i don't experience this every few years. additionally, i don't feel i should pay for an acknowledged recall problem simply because ford corrected the problem before, to no satisfaction. in addition, i feel i should be reimbursed for the cost of replacing my drained battery. apparently, ford will not take ownership of this continuing problem unless they are prompted to do so by nhtsa. *jb
