Was driving my 1999 ford taurus at a speed of 30-35 mph after driving at 70-75 mph steady for about an hour on the hwy and then without any notice while driving, the speedometer dropped from 30-35mph to 0-5 mph and stayed at that for about 3-5 seconds and my car tried to downshift and deexcelerate and also drop the transmission into a lower gear all on its own without any attempts to brake or slow down from my current speed of 30-35 mph. it did this twice within 90 seconds of each time. since i was less than a mile from my destination i made it safely to my location and haven't drove it since. this activity did not occur at all while i was driving on the hwy (41 north) about 10 minutes prior to driving at city speed of 30-35 mph after exiting for about 2 miles to my final location which did not require any stop and go driving except when i got off the hwy and slowed to 30-35 mph onto prospect ave in appleton, wi. i did notice a similar thing happen to my car about a year and a half ago, but at that time the only thing that happened was the speedometer dropped from about 55 mph to 0 a few times within 5-10 seconds but it did not try to shift to a lower gear like this time when the speedometer and rpm indicators quit on me while in operation. *tr

A minor slippage in the transmission became a complete transmission failure in less than a mile. no power to any gears, had to be towed. only repair options presented were new/used transmission, ranging from 1500-3000 in price, even though the nature of the failure was known by the dealership and the other mechanics i spoke with. otherwise, good car, but now it sits in my driveway. i would like the transmission repaired/replaced reasonably or for free given the complete and total, sudden failure. *tr

A 51 point inspection done on a 1999 ford taurus i purchased that had the following safety issues: cracked brakes, loose pinion rod, transmission, steering wheel off center to name a few items. required a flushing, oil, etc. i had to pay out of pocket to have most of these items repaired or replaced. some old parts are available, but i also have documentation to support my complaint. i have not had the transmission fixed due to funds. these items are a safety issue and could have cause a major accident. *tr

1. normal operation of vehicle. 2. rear seat belt retraction mechanisms fail. replaced 1, unit failed again. now neither of the 2 units work. unable to use the vehicle with more than 2 passengers. 3. 1 part replaced, failed again within 1 year.

Dt: the contact stated that on december 1, 2004 front left coil spring broke that punctured the tire. also, the key will not come out of the ignition. once in awhile one could turn the steering wheel just right and the key will come out. the contact had to pry open the hood or it will not open. contact has not taken the vehicle to the dealer. the blower motor will not work, and that was what fogged up the windows. had to dash off in order to get to the blower. july 1, 2005 the door sensor will ding even when shut the door, and it will stay on until it runs down the battery. *ak

The interior light continues to remain on and the dash readout indicates that there is a door open when there actually isn't. as a result, the driver's side door will not lock as long as the car believes there is an unlocked door. *jb

I have a 1999 ford taurus station wagon. in 2003 the rleft rear seat belt would sometimes get stuck and not retract. i would have to feed the belt back into the mechanism in order for the belt to finally work. after doing this for some time, i took the car to my local ford dealer in december, 2003 and paid to have the seat belt assembly replaced. in 2006, i again had the same problem with the left and right rear seat belts and the left front seat belt. i again took the car to the ford dealer in december 2006 and had all three of the seat belt assemblies replaced. at the time i asked the person at the dealer if there was a recall or anything on the seat belts since this was the second time in 3 years that i had the problem. they pretty much ignored my question. now i found out that there was a recall on seat belt mechanisms and owners were notified beginning in 1999. we did not purchase this vehicle until 2001. *tr

Had first alignment done and rack started leaking into boot directly after. dealer replaced under warranty. new rack leaks, replaced out of warrenty by wheel works. rplacement rack leaks, replaced under wheel works warrenty. replacement rack leaks, resivour went dry after just 10 miles. i hope they replace it under warenty. somebody needs to wake up and address this issue!.*ak

I drive a 1999' ford taurus. upon entering the freeway i noticed that the car was accelerating on its own. car does not have cruise control. i thought that the accelerator cable was sticking. i had the car checked out for the sticky cable but found out there was no problem with the cable. between then and now i have gotten the problem fixed from the ford dealership twice (paid couple of hundred dollars each time) ,and the car was acting up again(for the third time). then a friend of mine remined me of this show he had seen where people had reported their taurus's accelerating suddenl,y but ford motor co. passed the buck on the drivers (they accidently may have stepped on the gas pedal). this was a real problem with the taurus and i have talked to the dealership, but each time i get an unsatisfactory answer from them. *ak

While replacing a flat tire, the jack collapsed. it was caused by the flimsiness of the jack. *ak the consumer states that the jack had never been used before, and collapsed during the tire change. the consumer feels that this could be harmful to a person while using. *scc
