Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford ranger extended cab xlt. the contact was driving 45 mph when the front passenger side tire detached from the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to a private mechanic where the mechanic confirmed that a nut had detached from the wheel. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and the current mileages were 3,000. updated 03/16/12 *bf the consumer stated as he was driving, the steering wheel suddenly jerked itself out of his hands and pulled to the right. the consumer ended up in a muddy ditch where he slid to a stop against a fence and some small trees. the consumer stated there was no cotter pin that safe tied the nut that held the wheel on the spindle. updated 04/20/12
