Recently reported EXTERIOR LIGHTING problems on 2000 Ford Ranger

Starting from home, the vehicle had no indication of trouble lights in the instrument panel. then, driving about 2 miles and up the bridge, suddenly the vehicle slowly came to a stop within quick time and stalled on the uphill direction. a few attempts to restart, i was not successful. the police was called and came to push the ranger down the bridge to the safety area and waiting two hours later for the tow-truck to tow to the ford dealer. and, the diagnosis was that the fuel pump is out. this vehicle had histories of repair since the first year and thereafter . *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2000 ford ranger. while traveling at speeds of 65 mph, the contact began to smell an unusual burning odor. the headlights failed moments after noticing the odor. the contact stated the failure had occurred at least three times. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for further inspection of the headlight failure. the failure mileage was 81,300 and the current mileage was 81,318.

Tl* the contact owns a 2000 ford ranger. the contact stated the brake lights failed and the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the dealer disconnected the cruise control however, the failure persisted. the contact took the vehicle back to the dealer but he was unable to provide a remedy for the failure. the manufacturer had not yet been contacted. the failure mileage was 86,000 and the current mileage was 90,000. updated 07/19/10 *bf updated 07/21/10*jb

Dt*: the contact stated smoke came from the steering column while attempting to use the left turn signal. although the dealer was consulted no inspections were made. *ak

On several occasions, the left turn signal has failed to work properly - when it fails, the signal will either not come on at all or will remain lit continuously (instead of flashing), even if the turn signal switch is off. in addition, when the signal fails, smoke comes out of the steering column near the hazard flasher switch and/or turn signal switch. i have ordered a replacement turn signal switch (and will be replacing it as soon as the new part arrives) - i will keep the old part.

While turning on the turn signal driver noticed smoke coming from the steering column. driver pulled over. the cause has not been determined. driver will contact the dealer in the near future. *ak

The windshield wipers failed, and the headlights cut off intermittently. *jb the headlights would go out 40-50 seconds at a time. the consumer stated that he has experienced the same problem as recall #b00b40. the dealer stated that the recall doesn't pertain to his vehicle and they would have to diagnose the problem to determine how to assist him. scc

The headlights went out, and wouldn't come back on. the dealership indicated the headlight switch might have a short in it. please provide more details. ph

The customer states that the turn signal lever wont lock when turning, the dealer stated that it is operating as designed. nlm

Vehicle shutdown while driving at hwy speed of 55 mph. towed to dealer, and informed consumer that problem was due to a battery failure. *ak also, the hazard light was not working. *yh

Turn signal does not stay on for full turn or lane change. dealer says its not a problem and there are no "fixes". this is unsatisfactory to me. please look into this and help us get it fixed. *ak

The left and right turn signals do not work, but when making a sharp turn like a u turn the signal comes on, the dealer was contacted about the problem but was unable to find the problem. nlm both left and right signals fail when making a slight turn to left or right. the driver window chatters when lowering windows. the dealer cleaned the window guide. right front seat would not latch. the dealer tightened bolts on seat. there was a squeak in suspension when stopping. the dealer could not duplicate the problem, but lubed suspension. there was a squeak sound from rear wheel when the vehicle was cold. also the vehicle pulls to the right on the highway. *yh

Left rear tail light broke, and dealer had to back order the part. consumer called manufacturer & was told they couldn't help him. the best thing was to go through the parts department. part has since been received and replaced. *ak
