We have classified the 2 complaints from 2000 Ford Ranger about EQUIPMENT into the following categories.
I bought a 2000 ford ranger. i have kept the all the upkeeps for this car and more according to the ford dealers instruction manual for the ford ranger truck. it has about 81000 miles on it. i recently had to pay $2300.00 to the kearny mesa ford to fix my car. i do have the cruise control on it. one day, i smelled antifreeze. my heat gadget did not go off. there was no indication that the truck was overheating, but i chose to bring it in. i thought it was probably a leak in a hose. it turned out the a heating element was "probably the culprit", but they found through their computers that the engine had to basically be rebuilt because the engine had overheated. my concern was that not once did my heating gauge tell me that the truck was overheating. that is dangerous. i do not know if this is connected to the cruise control problem, but for a heating gauge to not go off when there is sever heat going on in the engine is dangerous. i could have gotten stranded in a dangerous place or the engine may have exploded on the freeway with the enormous damage that took place. i thought this needed to be reported. ford couldn't tell me why the heating gauge did not work. they told me that now and then even trucks that are kept up go wrong. that is not a good answer when this could have caused a serious accident. *tr
I went through 3 supposedly new alternators within one month. dealerships in both tennessee and georgia denied any problem with the alternators and refused to repair/replace them at no charge. i paid for three alternators in one month!!!! don't tell me there's nothing wrong with them. also, the first replacement alternator was supposed to be new (i was charged over $500 for it) but after it failed and was inspected, it was determined that it was a rebuilt alternator. why did the dealership charge me for a new one, and why wasn't i refunded any money?!?! also, i have wilderness ht p225/10/r15 tires. they always squeal when going around corners or over speed bumps, no matter how slow i am going. is there something wrong with them? i have read a lot of complaints about them. thanks for the help. *la
I believe that the drive belt in most ford rangers are pushed to far inn. when water gets on the belt it will squel for the longest time. i took my ranger to the local mechanic and he pulled one of the drive pullys forward3/4 of an inch and i havent had the problem since. i have neighbors with the same problem and i have heard quite a few rangers drive by that sound like this./
There is a clicking noise when turning on air conditioner. took vehicle to dealer, and they replaced some parts, currently, engine check light is on, and air conditioner won't come on.*ak
Engine is leaking oil, reoccurrences have caused consumer to take vehicle to dealer 7 times for the same problem, last repair was 1 year ago, vehicle is acting sluggish, the oil pan and rear mail oil seal was the cause of the oil leak.*ak. consumer also stated the the air conditioner was blowing out hot air, the dealer discovered that the compressor was leaking.*jb
The cigarette lighter fell into the inside of the dash. the dealer tells me this was the result of an "external device" being plugged in to the lighter socket instead of the auxiliary power outlet. it is my daughter's truck and she rarely plugs her cell phone charger in to the lighter. the dealer tells me this created enough heat to melt the mounting tabs on the inside of the dash allowing the lighter to fall inside. i ask you: if a cell phone charger can create this type of problem why does the lighter socket readliy accept the plug of the charger? why isn't it sized differently to prevent this? why didn't a fuse blow long before this much heat was generated? how many people are risking their lives plugging their cell phone chargers in to the lighter? i have a nice (1) page letter written about this situation but there is no provision to attach it to this form. thank you for your attention. i look forward to your response.*ak
Two weeks after i bought the truck the airconditioner broke twice, then the abs light came on for no reason, the seatbelts were recalled and now the transmission is going out. i would like something done about this i.e. them give me a new truck or my money back. its getting ridiculous.

Bill pierre ford of seattle washington, misusing the global positioning system. vehicle is fully paid for, management continues to track vehicle, harassing myself and other customers. dealer accounting is inaccurate, did not credit all payments, and after request to void extended warranty, did not reduce contract price as agreed. *nlm
