Problems with 1999 Ford Ranger UNKNOWN OR OTHER

On average, the 1999 Ford Ranger starts to “feel” problems with the UNKNOWN OR OTHER and its various aspects after 111 803 miles.

Recently reported UNKNOWN OR OTHER problems on 1999 Ford Ranger

Rusted out straps and mounts to the gas tank and other major rust damage to the underside of truck do not know if should repair or not

I am upset that this tire shop sold me tires that have been discontinued. i paid 312.00 for two tires and when i went to buy two more i was told they were discontinued. their is no warranty except a manufacturers warranty. i wanted to get all 4 the same. that is my complaint

Rear frame of truck has rusted so much that spare tire fell off while driving, and has a hole near rear driver's side leaf spring shackle and will not pass ny state inspection.

1999 ford ranger 3.0 v6 frame is completely rotted and falling apart frame of a truck that has been parked in a gradge its entire life and only driven in snow and rain but parked indoors and very well taken care of and my entire frame is shot! something has to be done about this issue i've seen many people with the same issue and ford should do something about it i can literally poke it with my finger and poke a hole thou the frame...and to make it worse i've been driving it without knowing how bad it was til the back bumper fell off today in traffic and had another car smash it !!!! not happy with ford! then when i got home i crawled under the truck and found that the frame is about to fold in the middle behind the cab...no remind you i'm a detailer and clean my truck religiously every single day and park in a gradge every day and every night!

The frame is rotting away and i am afraid of it now. it is about to break.

Severe frame rusting, bed has severe rust, rear leaf spring shackles rusted out and had to be replaced at my expense. vehicle is nearly unusable and unsafe at 112,000 or so miles.

99 ford ranger xlt sport package. 5 speed manual. truck body is rust free but frame has rotted out. rust began on left rear frame and spread to entire frame and cross members. spare tire fell off, frame cracked in half causing bumper to fall off, gas tank fell off truck hitting a small road bump at 60mph. both sides of rear frame, bumper, and gas tank were repaired. now frame has cracked in half under passenger side door. truck is unsafe to drive with only 99,000 miles. windshield wipers also go off intermittently and do not always work when turned on.

My 1999 ford ranger frame is rusting in several location which will make it very unsafe the body looks brand new but the front frame and rear frame are rusting away. the shocks on the front right side are about the break through the support and the upper control arm is about the break off.

My frame has rusted/ rotted almost completely off where it connects to my rear bumper. the bumper is now attached by one of two brackets and is soon to fall off where as it may cause a fatal injury to another driver or pedestrians.

Upon inspection mechanic said "shackles , frame, leafsprings, all rusted and truck will not last. motor runs great, body no rust.

The frame keeps cracking at the passengers side shock mount and working its way to the front of the truck. i have welded it several times in the past 2 months and cracking in different spots. alot of people are having the same problems.my frame is about to snap in half. the truck only has 124,000 miles on it. its pretty much the same as toyota's frame recall. *tt

The frame near my back wheels is completely rusted out and there is now a big crack on both sides of the frame. the rust amounts are excessive, and in my opinion seem to be a failure in design of the frame. the truck has only 105,000 miles on it and the frame in that section of the car has serious rust while the rest of the car looks good. all of the connections in the back have a lot of rust, more than can be attributed to poor maintenance. if i hadn't seen this crack developing in the frame a serious accident could have resulted. i feel ford should be held accountable for a faulty product

While driving down the road i went over some bumps in the road and truck lurched sideways suddenly, after that the handling of the truck was extremely poor. upon inspection of the truck i saw that the rear frame of the truck from the rear leaf spring mount back was severely rotted (the frame has rot holes in it) and the drivers side rear leaf spring mount had rotted off the frame. the truck has no body rot whatsoever and has been well cared for and the frame should not rot out before there is ever a spec of rust on the body.

Left side of frame rail rusted through to the point frame is almost broke in half on left rear portion just ahead of rear axle. sway arm was also connected to this part of frame. large portion of frame rail is missing, (approximately 6x6") which has rendered truck useless & unsafe to drive. last year both rear spring shackles had to be replaced or rear axle was going to fall out. until now this vehicle was in excellent condition.

Extensive rust damage to rear section of frame. spare tire holder completely rusted out.

My grandfather bought this truck new and replaced the rear spring hangers in10/2009. i have the truck now. after pressure washing the frame i noticed the frame cross member has a hole in it at the muffler. front spring hangers are extremely rusty as is the shock mounts. the frame from the cab to rear is extremely rusty and thin looking. the spare tire holding area has a hole in it. this truck has never been off road or in the mud. very little time on the road in the winter. the body is in excellent shape as is the frame from cab to front. truck has only 98,000 miles on it now. could this be a frame issue as it was with toyota? same manufacture maybe? just a thought because they are plenty of the same complaints in the same area.

Dt: problem occurred on 6/2/05 when the wire that hold the spare tire on the vehicle broke and the tire fell to the ground. owner was driving down the road going around a corner about 5 mph. no previous problems with vehicle. regularly maintained. *ak consumer is not making a complaint but is just reporting a safety hazard in the design of the spare tire holder.*sb *nm

While driving, the cable snapped which caused the spare to fall to the ground. *jb *cb *jb

vehicle was going 55mph and the engine started racing. rpm's shot up to 6 on the gauge. vehicle acceleration stop, and there was no throttle control. brakes were not affected. the abs, over drive ,and engine check light illuminated. consumer got to a local gas station and diagnostic reading read rear sensor was malfunctioning. the dealer was not notified. please provide more informtion.*ak

Engine check light(po455 code) came on 5 times since new, problem in fuel system and no vacumn being able to be detected by the onboard computer system in fuel system (leaking vapors?), problem not corrected to date, attempting to track down problem (fuel tank changed, canister purge valve changed, problem persists). *ak

I had made my first appointment after signing the papers, purchasing the 99 ford ranger. i thought these things can be taken care after the first appointment. i had gone by the dealership 4 times, and can't get any of these taken care off. 5800 miles later, i still have these problems. the body shop manager said he isn't set up like the manufaturer, and the service manager is full of i'm sorries. larry kramer is the engineer representative with ford. i have asked the dealer to replace the vehicle , they said i am sorry we already got your check from the bank, and we would not be able to replace this truck. larry kramer would not give me any straight answers. he was ready to fight, i do'nt know what to do with this truck . i am concerned for my safety! *ak

There is 3 or 4 recalls on my ranger and i was never notified of any. with the tires i tried to do something and they told me there was nothing i could do because i changed the tires myself to something else before i even new they may be problems. i also own a 1998 ford escort and could not pull up that model can you tell me if there was any recalls on that one. thank you.*la
