Problems with 2010 Ford Fusion SEATS

On average, the 2010 Ford Fusion starts to “feel” problems with the SEATS and its various aspects after 70 956 miles.

Recently reported SEATS problems on 2010 Ford Fusion

I was driving down the highway on the interstate at a speed limit of 60mph in motion on my way home and it started getting hard to turn my steering wheel which made it hard for me to make a left or right turn when i was exiting the exit. the service power steering popped up on my dashboard and advance trac. so then it ended up changing to say service power steering now which it made it very hard and difficult to even be able to drive my car period. i got a estimated of $1811.94 for my car to be repaired at wynne ford at 1020 w. mercury blvd hampton va 23666 and for me to get a estimate of that price i can't afford to pay that it's like buying a used car at that price. i just find it hard to believe that it's a recall on a 2011-2012 ford fusion but not a 2010 when the same exact defect is going on with that same carjis a different year. which basically i would be paying to get a electrical power steering rack and pinion in order for my car to be able to drive and function correctly.

I am having problems with several things. air bag was recalled so i took it to the ford dealership and they replaced it but the light won't go off, after getting my car back from the dealership the radio/speaker and seat warmers went out, soon after the heat/ac went out, the rear driver side tail light goes out very often, plate lights don't work, visor lights don't work. they're are too many issues that started at the same time, so i think it must be electrical. thanks

The metal part under the driver side seat broke causing the seat to be some detached.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that the heated seat element for the front driver's seat became extremely hot. the contact stated that the seat warmer was not inoperable. the vehicle was taken to huntington ford lincoln (located at 333 w jericho turnpike, huntington, ny 11743, (833) 386-3267) where it was determined that the seat was not covered under a warranty and there was no recall on the vehicle. the vehicle was diagnosed not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 58,800. *bf consumer stated vehicle was diagnosed but not repaired due to cost. *jb

Purchased used 8/1/14, was not informed of any recalls or issues by dealership. april 2017 after learning by searching on google that there was a recall on fuel tank/system. spoke with ford corp. which emailed the recall process step by step, was influenced to mention the throttle body which was covered under ext. warranty. took to dealer in tucson, az jim click ford. after 3 hours of possessing vehicle i received information that fuel tank/ system and throttle body were not affected and no work was required and even after agreement by ford corp. and the sales rep. that no diagnostics fee would be charged. i spent 3 hours arguing that it was covered by warranty and recall. found out later throttle body is recalled issue, that's why ext. warranty. issues with fuel/ air intake required inspecting throttle body. discovered extensive carbon build up and the fuel tank had evidence of rusting. jim click ford of tucson damaged vehicle from driver side to pass. side in center of vehicle including main frame. changes to the sync and computer became noticeable due to upgraded options that had never been usable. ignition switch had been removed and replaced with cheap rubber, lighting no longer existed( light for on/off, acc), was told spark plugs and boots needed to be replaced and they had begun work (without permission). later that week plugs had been pulled nd inspected, only one plug was no good (had them replaced in december by close family friend who owns mechanic shop 40+ years. employees left box of approx 50 new jim click coffee mugs, foot prints on passenger door, stole debit card, threw girlfriends underwear and bras out of bag and spread out in trunk.

The electric seat motor will no longer raise or lower the front half of the seat. this is regardless of if the vehicle is in motion or not.

Front passenger seat recall it can slide forward and jam lock when braking hard and can not be unlock/jammed to move back away from dash. while driving quick sudden slam on brakes

As my wife was driving to work, approximately a five minute ride to work. she noticed that the heated seat where very hot. she pulled the car over to find a small burn mark in the seat and on her butt. *tr

My drivers side heated seat began to get warmer than usual when i would use it. it would become so warm that i would have to turn it off because it was getting too hot and i was afraid that it would burn me. after a few weeks of this happening the seat heater stopped functioning properly all together. i would press the heated seat button and it would illuminate for a few seconds (maybe 2-3) and then shut off on its own, as if something were tripping a fault. the seat does not get warm at all before the switch turns off automatically. it is apparent based on research that this is a very common issue with the ford fusion. i have taken the car into the dealership and i was told the heating unit would cost almost $400 and to replace the leather seat is over $1000. over the past few years in michigan, i have had over a 10% pay cut as a teacher. i can not afford to fix this common problem. please ask ford to fix this problem with no cost.

The inside door handle has a cable attachment to it, when you pull the door handle it moves the lock and the door opens. today, mine broke. the reason for contacting you, i called the ford location to check for repair, the parts man told me that this door handle problem was the no 1 problem for ford motor cars. seems to me that they would address the problem, would you think that $150.00 cost for replacement might be the reason? sounds like add on sales, does not sound right, but the numbers are millions.

Had several passengers complain that the passenger heated seat was getting too hot and burning their rear end. they would have to turn it off. the a couple of days later my daughter went to turn the heat on her seat and the seat would not turn on. the light would turn on for a few seconds and then go right back off. we have checked the fuses and made sure that the seat is properly plugged in but the passenger seat will not heat. after checking the complaints on this page it appears that this is a common problem and that ford should do a recall to fix this problem. *tr

The occupant weight sensor failed in the passenger side seat, responsible for air bag deployment. the canister purge valve got stuck causing stalls when starting after refueling and stalls off the line starts putting the car/passengers at risks during turns crossing oncoming traffic, started at 56,000 miles. *tr

I turned on my driver side seat heater and it go extremely hot in one spot. i had to turn it off and tried it at a later date and same thing. in fact, it was as though it wouldn't turn off since it felt as hot as when it was on. it did eventually cool down. wow! i now have a hole burnt in my leather seat!!! this is obviously a big problem on two counts ....one could get burnt plus the car could catch on fire. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that the air bag wires failed and caused the air bag warning light to remain illuminated. the dealer performed a diagnostic, which located a failure code that the air bag wires were loose. the dealer adjusted the air bag wires; however, the repair did not correct the failure. the dealer performed a second diagnostic, which located a failure code for which the air bag restraint module needed to be replaced. the restraint module was not replaced. the contact also stated that the heated seat feature failed due to defective seat covers that caused the heating system wires to loosen. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 60,000.

My heated seats are super defective. i have only used my heated seats a handful of times. every time i turned it on it would get so hot it was burning my butt, literally. i even put a seat cover on my seat and folded a blanket 4 times (which made 8 layers of material) and it was so hot burned me through all of the layers. i kept smelling a burning smell, looked and there's is a burn mark through the seat, burnt a whole in my seat cover, and started burning my blanket. that is extremely dangerous, could cause a serious burn and or an accident. and it damaged the leather seat, seat covers, and a blanket which is all money out of my pocket. i cant even use the heated seats now because i will get burned. this needs to be fixed and addressed asap. *tr

Was driving in morning. turned on the heated seat. got so hot that it burned my rear. tried to turn it off but would not turn off. could smell seat burning. had to pull over and get out. turned off vehicle and let seat cool down. started car and seat no longer heats. looked online and forums say this is a common problem. this is a safety issue. could cause accidents big time! *tr

Drivers side power seat quick working. *tr

My drivers seat features all power controls. the incident is that my drivers seat lost control of the up and down motion. when you press the button on the seat to move the lower section of the seat up or down, it makes noise (like the motor is operating) but the seat does nothing. after careful inspection, i found out that ford uses plastic gears under the seat and one of the plastic gears has a broken tooth. this causes the seat motor to run but not actually turn the gear to move the seat in either direction. this gear set is not replaceable or serviceable and the owner must either replace the bottom rails of the seat or purchase an entirely new seat - both are costly repairs for not even having 70,000 miles on the vehicle at that time. *tr

We were sitting stopped at a traffic light when a truck struck us from the rear traveling approximately 50mph. the front seats reclined toward the back seats. i noted that there is a current recall posted on your site. i was never made aware of this from ford. i received the car the same month the recall was issued. i am upset that my car has been to ford several times for repairs and another recall but i was not made aware that my car needed this repair. the car was totaled, but fortunately our injuries were limited to bruises. *tr

Head restraint design has the head pushed foward to the point of pain. the head is not in line with with the spine. *tr

2010 ford fusion hybrid front seat headrest/restraint. the front seat headrests protrude forward well past the preferred alignment of the spine. the driver is compelled to operate the vehicle with head pushed forward. this poor ergonomics has resulted in neck and back pain, headaches, and general discomfort. the manufacturer should consider a redesign and make such redesign available to consumers. *tr

2011 ford fusion headrest is so far forward that it forces my wife's head forward, causing severe neck pain. as a result she removed the headrest. this is unsafe situation but necessary for her to be able to drive the card. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while traveling at any speed the contact noticed that the head rest was causing headaches and back pains due to the forward leaning position of the head rest. the current and failure mileages were 400. updated 12/23/10*lj updated 01/04/11

2010 ford fusion head rests really hurt the neck and shoulders after any period of driving. ford needs to replace with better ergo head rests. *tr

The 2010 ford fusion has poorly designed driver/passenger head restraints. i, of height 5'7", test drove one yesterday, and got no further than 0.25 miles before needing to park. the headrest is angled forward, causing excessive neck strain, and there is no way to adjust its tilt to a more vertical position. i did subsequently complete the test drive, albeit with frequent bodily adjustments. driving this vehicle with proper posture is impossible with these head restraint design. ps: the link below for emailing the nhtsa is broken. http://www.nhtsa.gov/nhtsa-dpmextn/jsp/email/email_nhtsa.jsp. *tr

I just bought a 2010 ford fusion. i know now why they only allow you to test drive these cars around the block. the first time i drove it, i got a burning pain down my neck and a piercing headache. the headrest is a wedge with the greatest protrusion hitting the greatest protrusion of the back of your head. no adjustment of the seat or headrest helps. i tried to return the car immediately, but they refused. this weird angle puts your chin down on your chest and your sight line in a hazardous alignment. if there were a wreck, the angle would cause your neck to snap. ford is aware of this, apparently, and has received many complaints, yet does nothing. people are resorting to turning the headrest around, which will not protect against whiplash, or having it bent in a vise, which could allow it to break in a collision. all the fords now have this dangerous torture device, so you cannot change them. help! *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion s. the contact stated that when the headrest were in their proper forward position, they would push the passengers heads forward and cause him to lean forward. the head rests were turned backwards to alleviate the pressure. the dealer advised the contact that they were unable to provide any assistance or repair the vehicle in order to correct the design of the headrest. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was approximately 100 and the current mileage was approximately 7,000. updated 09/16-10 *bf updated 09/20/10*jb

I have a 2010 ford fusion sel and the headrest is too far forward as not to be comfortable. i have back and neck problems as it is and this only makes it worse! i have to put the seat back back so far to not have my head crunched forward. *tr

Iinformation redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) have recently purchased a 2010 ford fusion hybrid, vin [xxx]. i love everything about the car except the front seat head restraints. they are angled too far forward and are not adjustable except for height. they force the head to bend forward, chin down, so that to look out the windshield one has to have the eyes in a "looking up" position, causing eye muscle strain. my wife has back problems and this non-adjustable design exacerbates the situation in her opinion and in her chiropractor's opinion. we think ford should provide replacement headrests that allow the upper cervical vertebrae to be aligned with the lower spine when the rider's back is in full contact with the seat back. i have enjoyed having cars in which the headrest can be pivoted to allow drivers of different builds to find a comfortable head and neck position without compromising the goal of protection against whiplash injury. please get ford motor company to replace these uncomfortable, intrusive headrests with redesigned ones! *tr

My complaint is not specific to any particular automobile, but instead concerns the front seat headrests in many late-model vehicles. these headrests are angled too far forward and are causing drivers and front seat passengers to experience significant neck, back, and shoulder discomfort. this change in headrest design is too extreme. on the internet, i have read that many car owners are removing the headrests and replacing them with the forward surface facing rearward. others are removing these headrests altogether. it is understood that whiplash injuries may occur less frequently with the new standards, however the discomfort experienced while driving for even a short period of time is causing people to have headaches and neck and back symptoms that may eventually lead to related chronic conditions. *tr

The head rest on my new 2010 ford focus (not a fusion as noted) protrudes forward beyond the top of the seat causing my head and neck to be pushed forward into an unnatural position with my spine. this, in turn, is a very unsafe driving position to be in due to misalignment of my head, neck and spine and causes unnecessary fatigue, neck pain and headache . it is especially awkward and difficult to drive and look toward the right rear of the vehicle while being forced into a "crook neck" position by the forward protruding head rest. i purchased to vehicle new under the cash for clunkers program and without driving it. this was a big mistake as i got myself into an apparent unsafe vehicle. after driving it for only 40 miles, i experienced neck pain. my investigation revealed that the forward protruding head rest was the problem. i promptly notified the dealer where i bought it and was advised by my sales person that several other people have also complained about these head rests. i then notified ford motor company customer services of the problem and was advised, "the head rests are made to our specifications". i indicated that this is a safety issue and suggested that they do something about it before they have another firestone tire type of problem to deal with. the company rep. then proceeded to hang up on me. as a remedy to my complaint. the dealer (service manager) removed the head rests from the front seats of my new car and suggested that i, "go to a salvage (junk) yard and try to get replacement head rests that do not cause the problem". i reminded him that i had just turned in a '93 aerostar that did not have the problem and he replied, "we just sell the cars - we don't build them". with the head rests removed, i now have no protection from whiplash which is another safety problem. i respectfully request that the nhtsa investigate these head rests (asap) to prevent injury, death or property damage. a recall is needed here. thank you *tr

I fully agree with the following previous complaint: 2010 ford fusion hybrid front seat headrest/restraint. the front seat headrests protrude forward well past the preferred alignment of the spine. the driver is compelled to operate the vehicle with head pushed forward. this poor ergonomics has resulted in neck and back pain, headaches, and general discomfort. the manufacturer should consider a redesign and make such redesign available to consumers. this situation is so bad that i have reversed the position of the head rests, thus rendering them totally ineffective. i am unable to drive or ride in this car with the head rests in the normal position. *tr

Since buying a new 2010 ford fusion hybrid, the head rest/restraints for both front seat passengers are made too far forward and touch the back of the head while driving. although we are told they are made this way for our safety, they are very annoying . the angle can not even be changed and we are still looking to replace them if we could just find ones that are just 1" further back. i have gone on-line on the internet and see lots of people complaining about the same issue and wonder why the nhtsa has not issued a recall or even required ford to provide a replacement for a small fee? they bother my wife so much that she has removed them from the seats. now we do not have any protection from a rear end collision. *tr
