I was no longer able to accelerate. the car was running but while i was driving the car stalled in the middle of the road and as i tried to give the car gas it just increased rpm's but didn't move the car. i pulled off into a parking lot turned the car off and on and it began to run again, but lost all computer information so the mechanic couldn't figure out the problem. it has happened multiple times since then. *tr
The throttle body failed causing the car to lose all power. i made it to the side of the road and turned the car off. turned the car off and left it off for a few minutes. turned the car back on and it ran. i took it to a dealer, where ford refused to fix the issue even though the part is under warranty. drove the car for three weeks after that when it occurred again while driving. took the car back to the ford dealer where once again ford has refused to fix the issue. *tr
Driving highway speed with the cruise control active, on my way to work. turned off the cruise and the car "bucked." the wrench warning light came on. it would lose rpm and then go back up again. turned around and went home. i didn't want to be stranded at 4:30 in the morning. got home, turned the car off, and restarted, and the light was off. took it to the ford dealer and they said it's the throttle body. but...my car for some reason isn't covered under the extended warranty. i have a 6 speed manual. it uses the same throttle body as automatic transmission cars. what gives?? *tr
Driving to work car had a thump then loss of power(couldn't accelerate ) and amber wrench light came on. pulled over to side of highway as quickly and safely as i could. engine was idling rough. put in park and turned off car for 2 seconds, and turned back on. car ran fine, until 3 days later when exact same problem occurred. *tr
While driving the engine just cut out. there was no response from the gas pedal at all. the engine was surging around 10000 rpm, and running very rough. then the vehicle went in to limp home mode. i was able to shut it down put it in park and restart, but after a while it started all over again. this happened multiple times during the day. *tr
The car went into 'limp' mode, and lost almost all power. the 'check engine' indicator lit up. i was able to coast to the side of the road and restart it w/o incident, after which it ran normally. this is the first time it happened, but an online search revealed that this is not an unknown issue with these models. i was in heavy traffic and fortunate that no accident occurred. *tr
Driving on highway and the transmission went out of gear, coasted to edge of highway, had power to engine/car though . second time happen i was stopped dropping off wife and when i started to go, the car started to shake and sputter and the transmission went out of gear again. had to coast to empty area. both times, i shut of engine waited 30 seconds/minute and restarted and continued on without problem. *tr
In a nut shell the car would not accelerate properly it kept dying out every time i would mash on the accelerator.went to autozone and had a scanner put on the vehicle and a number of codes came back pointing to the throttle accelerator control when looking for the part it came back as the entire throttle body. then come to find out the part had to be ordered, then it could nto be ordered from any retailer, went to the dealer one day to get the part and it was purchaseable, went back the next day to find it was a recall on that part went to another dealer to have the recall honored and they gave me this spill about the cost of a diagnostic test, saying it had to be done before they could know for sure if it was the throttle body. then later that day they call back saying it was some kind of air hose that a rat had chewed through. sounds like a bunch of hoorah to me. tell me what do you think. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that the vehicle was slow to accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed and idled extremely low. the vehicle suddenly surged at a high rate of speed. the contact had to coast the vehicle off the road and restart the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to a dealer who was unable to replicate and diagnose the failure. the contact received notification of a manufacturer service campaign for the electronic throttle body extended coverage, but the dealer refused to provide the manufacturer's solution to repair the vehicle. the contact was uncertain if the vehicle would be repaired the contact received notification of customer satisfaction program: 13n03. the failure mileage was not available. updated 06/29/17*lj *cn
My 2010 fusion car had been using quite a bit of gas, the check engine symbol came on, . i took my car to the dealer and was told i needed to replace the evap canister and the purge valve for 800.00 as i had p0456 code, and a p2169 code and has raw fuel leakage. i researched the internet and came across several complaints as well as a tsb bulletin, that this is a common failure in this year make/model of the car. i think ford is aware that these components are faulty/defective and do fail and should be held accountable and made to stand behind their product(s). consumers should not have to pay car payments and make costly repairs on a 3 year old cars. i believe a recall should be made on this car concering this know problematic matter . *tr
Car has stalled out before a few times. this time, it chugged with the wrench light on, brown/grey exhaust. shut it off, tried again. the same. i inched my way over to the side of the street. so glad i was not on the freeway going to work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! recall this car so we can get our money back, or give me big discount on new different car/truck. poor workmanship on this year of vehicle. car of the year? what a joke. *tr
We were stopped in heavy traffic in orlando 800 miles from home. the car would not accelerate so we limped into a gas station. a tow truck operator was at the gas station as well as a mechanic. they both said it is a very common ford throttle control failure. ford quoted us $1000 to fix the problem but a mechanic fixed it for $450. initially, he cleaned the throttle control and changed the spark plugs. it drove fine in test drive but failed again on our way to hotel. we purchased the part from greenway ford in winter park fl. they had 24 in stock because it is not uncommon to sell 12 a day since the problem is so common. the problem is now solved because we drove the car to toyota and traded it in. *tr
Went to pull onto interstate and when tried to accelerate the vehicle wouldn't speed up. also the engine rpm's would accelerate and cause hard shifts which has progressively gotten worse, the vehicle doesn't want to start when the fuel level gets low enough to turn the low fuel light on either. all of the above problems have gotten worse over the past month. *tr
Car started to lose power and speed while driving. pressing the gas barely made it go for a few hundred feet, then it died. on busy highway, but was able to make it to side street and push past a drive way. restarted and was able to drive another couple of miles. after about 1.5 hours of waiting, it died 2x while driving about 2 miles home. this has happened before (a couple of years ago) to this same vehicle (taken to dealer at least 2x for the problem). based on what i read today online, it sounds like the "throttle body". trying to get the car to the dealer tomorrow. *tr
Car had a defective throttle body that caused the car to lose power and shake. wrench light would come on. *tr
I noticed several times that the car tends to shift hard (automatic transmission). now i've had a problem with the transmission light coming on, the car stalling, and starts shimmying and shaking. had it back to the dealer on monday and they said they fixed it. however, this morning, i had the same incident occur. it is now back at the dealer to have it checked and hopefully fixed without any cost to me. i will be trading this ford for another make of car. i had similar problems when i owned a ford edge and traded it in. i also had problems with the ford edge mytouch screen going out on me as well. *tr
I was stopped at a traffic light and when the light became green i proceeded to turn right through the intersection. after driving about 25 yards the car lost almost all power and the engine began to vibrate. the car moved forward in a jerking manner with little power (10%). all the dashboard indicator lights came on and then went off except for the wrench light which stayed on. i shut the engine off and waited about a minute before restarting. all indicator lights were off and the engine was vibrating and jerky while driving the first few feet and then all went back to normal. i am very concerned that i would be in a dangerous situation if this were to happen on the highway at a high speed. *tr
yesterday, 12-18-13 while driving at approx. 65 mph on highway car throttle stopped responding and went into rough idle. did same thing 4 times and i narrowly escaped being rear ended. had to get to side of road and turn off engine. after letting car set for approximately 2 minutes car restarted and seemed to run fine until the next unpredictable incident. today 12-19-13 on way to dealership pulled into traffic and was almost broadsided. almost being killed 4 times in 24 hrs. suggests a major safety issue. dealership was aware of problem as soon as i mentioned it indicating this was not first time. dealership fixed issue even before discussing price as they said i could not drive car if this part was not replaced (again indicating a major safety issue that they were already aware of). according to nhtsa action # pe13003 this complaint has been under investigation since feb. 21, 2013. i feel this issue needs to be addressed before it leads to fatalities. called ford customer service on this date and was given very little assistance on the issue other than they would report it for internal investigation. feel that an immediate recall should be issued. *tr
My 2010 ford fusion stalled many times last weekend. i pulled the car over to the side of the road, put it in park, and turned it off and back on, and it ran fine to get me home. i had no further problems with it until today, roughly a week later. it stalled on me twice at speed, and i had to pull over, turn it off, and restart the engine, upon which it ran fine. each time it stalled, the wrench icon lit up on the dashboard after it stalled, but did not stay on once the engine was restarted. today after the third stall, i noticed the car was kind of jerking as i pulled it to a stop, but as i pressed the gas nothing happened. i was told by ford that this is the throttle position sensor (tps). this switch almost got me killed in heavy traffic more than once and it's a matter of time before someone get killed because ford has yet to recall this part!!! *tr
Was pulling out of my road which is in a bad curve, so you need acceleration. the car lost all power, and was stuttering. wrench light on and still running just a bad stuttering. car barely misses me in the curve because i don't have enough momentum to get out of the road. i cut the car off and restart it, and it acted like it did not want to start but finally did. thank god. drove it back in our road and parked it. scared me bad. this is the only issue i have had with this car. but if i had known about it i would not have bought. over 400.00 estimate to fix throttle body. very upset this car has 52000 miles on it. *tr
Traveling on n.j. parkway...suddenly, engine just stopped working and i had no control of accelerator. had been in middle lane at the time and as i tried to get to side of road cars had to swerve into around me because of the sudden loss of speed. i reported this to dealer, but service manger accredited the problem to water in gas line or dirt in filter. as of this writing, a recall was issued from throttle body problems, had it repaired 2 weeks ago, but today, same problem has recurred. *tr
Was driving about 40 miles per hour when the car started to stall as if it was running out of gas and wrench light (check engine) came on. pulled over to side of road and car began to violently shake. turned the car off, waited a minute, turned it back on and was able to drive it. two days later, driving about 25 miles per hour, exact same thing happened. four days later, 55 mph, same thing. it is now at the ford dealership and they are unable to find code. code was previously found as p2112 throttle actuator stuck open. i explained what was going on, the previous code, and that i have seen hundreds of complaints online about the same experience. apparently they cannot just replace the part if they don't experience it themselves, at least not to be covered by extended warranty. would appreciate a recall. dangerous to drive this car with my 11 month old in it. *tr
While traveling on the local highway, the car lost power and started to shake. the service and check engine lights appeared on the dashboard. luckily it was not rush hour and the traffic was light. after pulling off of the road, i was able to turn off the car and back on. the engine appeared to operate normally. the incident happened again a few miles later. this time the check engine light remained on after the restart. i was able to successfully drive the car to the local dealership. the dealer stated that the throttle body needed to be replaced. luckily i have an extended warranty and it only cost me $100, unlike some of the other folks who have reported the same issue. this could have been much worse if the traffic was heavier or if i was unable to get to the side of the road quickly. *tr
first incident - i pulled out onto a main street & the motor cut out. also when i was on the interstate (going to work) was going about 65 mph...and the motor cut out. i had to pull over on the berm of the road- shut the car off & restart it. this is very dangerous as i cannot tell when it will shut down & where i am at on the highway...& if i can get off the road before someone hits me! this has happened a total of 5 times now & i am afraid to drive it for fear of getting hit by another car! (a wrench shows up on the instrument panel each time this happens!) *tr
I had just ha the oil changed at the ford dealership in morrow, ga. who always do and inspection to see if there are other services needed, which they found no one. two weeks later on my way home the engine ran hot. as it turns out the water pump had failed because of plastic impellers that are in the workmanship. call ford in detroit to inquire and they informed me that there was no recall because of the problem. i'm not sure if other owners have had the same failure with this car or not, but i would like to know. *tr
Vehicle stalled and went into limp mode causing me to have to pull to the side of the road. after stopping and restarting the car the car drove fine. car was diagnosed at a local ford dealer with a faulty throttle body. *tr
Saturday afternoon on 11/23/13 we were driving 57 mph when the car buckled and the little wrench came on. we were barely able to get off side of the road since there was a ditch beside us and we were on a state route so there were cars coming towards us and vehicles behind us. we waited a few minutes started the car and headed on our way. later on that same day around 10pm the car did the same thing and we had no power while trying to accelerate in the middle of the night and the little wrench comes on. this time there was less traffic at night so we were able to somewhat get off the road. again we sat there for awhile, started it back up and headed straight back to our house. since we know what the problem is already due to my wife having the same make, model, year of the car and her own mother having to replace the same thing. the dealership said it was the throttle body that needed replace. we are able to call the same dealership that my car was originally purchased from the same place where my wife got her car from and get the part needed. my wife's story with her car is a bit more intense while i was driving on the highway of 70 mph the car buckled and lost all power and cars were flying by almost not allowing me to get off the side of the road. almost got into an accident because of it. if they really want me to be a happy ford customer i would hope they would recall this knowing peoples lives and safety are at risk when the car loses all control while driving. only time will tell if i have to come back and voice another complaint. i come from a family of ford owners and i'm thinking it will stop with us. *tr
Driver was driving vehicle home from work when the acceleration stopped working while she was driving. driver stated that she heard a clunking noise when the acceleration stopped working that sounded almost like the vehicle was running out of gas, only the tank was full at the time. vehicle was towed to ford dealership where it was determined that the throttle body had failed. *tr
The car started to run rough, the engine light went on, there was no response to the gas pedal. i had enough speed to move to the shoulder. i turned off the car and the issue seemed to resolve itself. i happened two more times in the last three miles to my house. *tr
Nov 14, 2013 - burleson, tx - power train i had almost the exact same issue as the person who posted on 11/14 from burleson, tx. while driving home from work, the wrench light came on and the car seemed to go into neutral and stopped accelerating. i pressed the gas, but it didn't help. i turned on my flashers and did manage to pull into a nearby hotel parking lot. shifting it into manual, 2nd gear, as i was doing this seemed to provide a little power. i shut off the car and sat for a couple of minutes. when i restarted the car, it drove like normal, then repeated the issue after i made another stop on the way home about 10 minutes later. i have scheduled it for service for monday, 11/18 so i don't yet have the dealer diagnosis, but given the number of similar issues i'm seeing on this site, i wanted to get my incident in as well as it appears that this may be a recall issue, so my complaint very much mirrors the one from burleson, tx, where he or she found 10's of thousands of 2010 ford fusion owners facing or having faced this same issue. *tr
The fusion will stall at highway speed. when driving the "wrench" light will come on and the gas pedal becomes useless and it is left to coast down the road. the only thing you can do is pull over, if possible and put it in park and shut it off. then the car shakes like crazy like the engine will explode if you don't shut if off fast enough. there entire time the tachometer is bouncing up and down and gas pedal is useless. putting it in park does not fix the problem. you have to shut down the car. once shut off, you can wait a few seconds and restart the car. this will usually start decent but sometimes will be hard to start. then it will drive normal. this has happened multiple times and 2 x today while on the interstate. there is no chugging or warning, it will just stop letting you use the gas pedal and starts shaking violently. i found out it is a problem with the throttle body. this is expensive to fix and dangerous if you don't as you can not always simply pull to the side and restart your car. not safe for me or my pregnant wife. fix the problem ford. *tr
Throttle response stopped entirely at an intersection, resulting in a near rear-end collision. subsequent extreme rough idle, bogged-down engine behavior, and difficulty to start engine. faulty part is electronic throttle body, per nhtsa action number pe13003. *tr
I was in rush hour traffic (approx 20mph) when out of no where the engine mechanical light came on and the car lost power. i put the car into neutral and tried to move to across three lanes to the emergency lane with no power. i almost got the car to the emergency lane when it stopped. i had to get out on the interstate and push the car to the side of the road. i turned the car off and sat for a few minutes. then i tried to start the car when it fired right up like there was never an issue. i continued on to work. after leaving work i was driving home at about 70mph and again out of no where the car lost power and i again pulled to the emergency lane, turned the car off and started it again, and continued home. this is a dangerous malfunction that is going to kill someone if it already hasn't.... i almost got hit trying to move my car off the interstate!!!! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact was driving 35 mph when the vehicle suddenly stalled. the contact placed the vehicle in park and restarted the vehicle after several attempts. the vehicle performed normally once restarted but the failure later recurred. the contact also stated that she had an issue with the vehicle jerking and failing to increase speed despite the accelerator pedal being depressed. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic but the failure could not be duplicated. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 94,000.
While driving approximately 45mph the car suddenly started running rough and lost all power. rpm decreased dramatically and the car would not accelerate, however the engine did not stop running. the wrench indicator came on as i managed to safely get to a parking lot. i turned off the engine and waited several minutes. i re-started the engine and drove home with no further incident. since the incident i took the car into a reputable shop for proper diagnostic which resulted in no indication or failure codes from the tests. there was no forewarning for the failure incident and i will say that i was in a precarious and dangerous traffic condition when the failure occurred. through further research i found the following: unfortunately this failure seems to be occurring more frequently and linked to a throttle body problem. the diagnostic codes for this failure apparently get erased when the car engine is cycled off then on, preventing a diagnostic test from capturing the code necessary for analysis (unless a diagnostic is performed while the incident is occurring). if the problem is a faulty throttle body the failure code should be p2111 or p2112. ford has changed the part number of the throttle body replacement part from the original part causing suspicion to be cast on the original part. this warrants a safety recall due to the nature of the failure and possible injury potential when failure occurs in traffic, but has not been recognized by ford .....yet. *tr
I was driving my fairly new and well taken care of ford fusion up a hill with my fiance' and 1 month old baby coming home. the car all of a sudden stalled and cause cars to almost crash into me. i had to hurry pull over and push the car out of traffic. thank god i was not making a turn through traffic or else a tragedies could have happened. i traded my other ford for this new one thinking it was safer choice. the engine tool came on then went off as i shut the car off. today i was driving again on 11/4/13 and i was going through the green light and boom car stalled again!! this time traffic rushing to me on the side where they can't see my hazards on. again with my baby in the car!!! i had to run out to stop traffic. please nhtsa have ford fix this asap or many people may be at risk of serious injury or death!!! they are putting babies at risk too!!! *tr
Vehicle just stopped, couldn't accelerate, loss of power, couldn't get any speed. *tr
Owner was driving a 2010 ford fusion on a multi-lane highway in stop and go traffic approaching a two lane tunnel on friday, november 1, 2013. vehicle was non-responsive when pressuring the accelerator, so had to pull over onto shoulder of highway. even after turning the car off and then restarting the ignition, car would not move when pressing the accelerator, although it began to shake. the dashboard light displayed as wrench icon, which according to the owner's manual meant a potential transmission problem. aaa towed car to residential neighborhood. the next morning, saturday november 2, a third party towing company hired by ford roadside assistance arrived to tow vehicle to the nearest ford dealership. the tow truck urged driver to drive the car to dealership, and followed behind. after about 2 miles of driving on residential surface streets, car became nonresponsive to accelerator while driving around 10 mi/hr. the tow truck driver towed the vehicle the remaining distance to ford dealership in colma, california. after waiting for an hr, dealer mechanic reported that the throttle body needed to be replaced, and advised that the powertrain warranty was inapplicable despite vehicle being within the 5 yr / 60,000 mi window. the ford dealership performed the repair and collected payment the same day. after returning home with the vehicle, i discovered that pg 19 of the 2010 ford owner's manual showed that the throttle body was a covered part that ford should have replaced at no charge as an emissions-related component so long as the vehicle was within 8 yrs / 80,000 mi. ford customer service agreed that pg 19 showed that this part should have been covered under warranty. however, they advised that their internal ford computer database indicated that this part was only covered for hybrid vehicles despite the written manual making no such distinction. *tr
Car stalled on highway- had to pull over to shoulder and restart auto ran for at about 5 mph- did not react to accelerator. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while attempting to accelerate onto the highway, the wrench warning icon illuminated as the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was towed to a private mechanic for inspection, who advised that the throttle body and engine gasket would need replacing. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 71,000 and the current mileage was 72,000. updated 3/28/14*cn
Transmission fluid leaks seal at left cv joint. i took it to have it serviced due to slipping/ jerking when changing gears. total of repairs cost me over $500.00, 4 days later, seal is broken again and needs to be replaced again. ford needs to recall this vehicle...after seeing hundreds of exact same issue! *tr
During the month of september, my car began suddenly shutting off while i was driving. this happened multiple times on the highway and surface roads. i would pull over, turn the car off and wait a few minutes. the car would work fine afterwards. i first had the battery checked which revealed a bad battery, i had it replaced. the car continued to have symptoms after the new battery was installed. i also noticed the stalling happened more when i filled the gas tank completely. i finally took the car back to the place i purchased it for diagnostics. i discovered that the throttle body was defective. i was told by a tech that the manufacturer had assembled new throttle bodies to replace the originals as the original throttle body did not work properly. apparently, the intake was not opening/closing properly therefore the engine was not getting enough gas at times. the shop was able to pull codes from the previous stall events, p2111 & p2112. they replaced the throttle body assembly, ~ $300.00. i see many complaints regarding this issue and expect/hope a recall will be issued in the near future. as a side note, my abs light was on as well. there was a known recall on the driver's side air bag assembly, shorted to ground. ford replaced the air bag assembly at no charge. i hope this information is helpful. *tr
Accelerating from a complete stop at a stop light and the car started to shake violently and the wrench light came on, no acceleration occurred. turned the car off and on again and everything was fine except for the occasional jerky acceleration now. identified as probably the throttle body. *tr
While traveling on the interstate at 70 miles per hour the car suddenly lost power. the wrench icon illuminated and the transmission felt as if it had disengaged from the engine. there was no throttle response. i was able to pull over to the side of the road without incident. i shut off the ignition. after about 3 minutes i restarted the engine. the wrench icon disappeared. the engine and transmission performed normally after that. *tr
When accelerating the cars engine suddenly stalls. had to stop , and turn off the car completely, and re-start. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the vehicle began jerking and stalled. the check engine warning light was also illuminated. the contact pulled over and shifted into park, and the vehicle began shaking while in park. the contact was able to restart the vehicle and the stalling failure ceased. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer, who stated that the throttle body was defective and needed to be replaced. the contact did not have any repairs performed on the vehicle. the failure mileage was 93,677. returned by usps on 11-15-2013. second attempt on 11-20-2013 failed. *kb
Tried to start vehicle after filling up on gas, already had about 1/4 tank prior to fill up, recently driving for several miles (car is warmed up fully) and it immediately stalled. this had never happened to me, and it occurred to me that just before the gas fill up i noticed somewhat rough engine response in a very short drive from across the street. i've read that there are issue with throttle body faults on fusion and escape that do not log under normal odb 2 codes after turning engine off. i never saw the check engine light come on. *tr
I was driving on a main road and after accelerating through a light, my car stopped accelerating and my "wrench" light came on. i could no longer accelerate and the car began jumping back and forth as if it were trying to switch gears. luckily i wasn't on a major highway. i shut the car off and turned it back on and the light went away briefly. after pulling onto a side road it happened again and when i put it in park, my rpm gauge began fluctuating and i was not pressing the gas pedal.it also began hard shifting and it seemed as though the transmission was going to drop. not sure if this is a computer issue, but it is clearly not safe. it stalled several more times on the way home. it's definitely not safe to drive and thankfully i was not on a major highway where lives could have been at risk. i researched this weekend and clearly other people have had the same issue. i can't believe this isn't a recall. hopefully ford takes care of this before someone gets seriously hurt. *tr
Was driving through a subdivision when car started to jerk and stall out. was able to pull to the side, restart vehicle and return to the road. this has since happened 3 times within the past week, once upon a 4 lane boulevard. i believe ford motor co. is aware of this issue yet has done nothing to recall and repair the part. i do not feel safe in this car as no warning is given that it is going to die. it just dies and lord help you! i plan to have it towed to the dealership tomorrow and trade it in on a chrysler product. *tr
Driving down interstate and lost all throttle response. fortunately was able to pull over to the side and turn car off. re-started and was able to make it home. p2111 error code; sounds exactly the same as hundreds of other complaints about these models. mechanics all say the same thing, faulty throttle body and needs replacement. someone needs to step in at some point and force ford to issue a recall. *tr
