Driving at highway speed of 55 mph vehicle shook and lost all power. pressing gas pedal down had no effect on vehicle rpm or speed. coasted to side of the road. engine continued to run erratically. shut engine off and waited a few minutes. restarted vehicle, appeared to be fine. throttle response normal. resumed driving. after approx one mile same issue, complete loss of power at 55 mph! attempted restart again and appeared normal. drove 5 miles and issue happened again!. attempted restart and appeared normal but this time the check engine light was illuminated. pulled stored faulted code - p2111 throttle actuator control system stuck open. lots of reports on web with same common problem. this part is clearly defective and should be recalled. going to take to dealer for repair but will probably have to pay as car is outside the 3 yr warranty period. part cost is ~$400 so not looking forward to this bill. losing engine power control at highway speeds has a very great potential to cause an accident and it is only a matter of time before this defective part is responsible for killing someone. please issue a recall asap!! *tr
When driving through a intersection the car just quits working almost were ran into many times. i took the car to the ford dealer and they are replacing the throttle body. *tr
My car suddenly lost power and turned off 3 times in the past week. the first time at about 9pm i was driving on the freeway when my car suddenly shut off going at about 65 mph. it was scary as the car seemed to jerk and swerve before shutting off. i had to cruise off to the right but with traffic blowing by so fast and my car dropping speed super fast i almost got into a car accident. i was able to turn the car back on about 10 min later and got off the freeway. about 5 miles later the car shut off again at a slower speed appx. 15mph. my check engine light came on and my car no longer started. i got towed home. today 9/16/13 my car started and i drove to my nearest ford service center (sunrise ford north hollywood). while on my way my car shut off again. i waited 5 min. and it started again. my car was diagnosed ($150.00) and i was told that it was the electronic throttle body. total cost of repair is going to cost me apprx $480. this includes diagnostic, parts and labor. oh and i was told that this part is back ordered. powertrain warranty does not cover this issue and my 3 year 36000 miles expired. i was having jerking problems with the car at about 36,000 miles, i was told that my warranty expired and that i had a bad battery. *tr
While driving approximately 40mph on a six lane divided road, the wrench caution light appeared (indicating transmission/throttle malfunction). the engine rpm immediately dropped and began fluctuating around 1,000 and the vehicle began to shake violently. there was absolutely no response to accelerator inputs. the driver was able to maneuver the vehicle clear of traffic. the maximum speed that could be attained at the fluctuating rpm was 14 mph. it is a miracle the vehicle was not in rear end collision as the posted speed limit was 45mph. car was allowed to idle at the reduced rpm while driver inspected the engine and pressed the accelerator. the car was turned off and back on (with a little bit of trouble turning over). the incident occurred once on 26aug2013, four times on 13sep2013, and once on 14sep2013. the car has not been driven since the last occurrence. the vehicle was taken to a mechanic who recommended taking it to a ford dealership due to only having 1,400 miles left on the powertrain warranty. the service department was able to pull p2111 code. after receiving an exorbitant quote for the repair ($230 for part, $280 for labor) with no estimated delivery date for the backordered part, the repair was denied to allow for further research. the dealer has absolutely no qualms releasing the car with a known malfunction, presenting a hazard to the driver and others on the road. a car that immediately decelerates should be considered as dangerous as an uncommanded acceleration. to prevent serious injury/death, ford should issue and immediate recall for the failing throttle body. *tr
I was slowing to exit the interstate when the yellow wrench light came on and the car lost power. i was able pull the car to the side of the road. the engine was running extremely roughly and i turned it off. after about 15 seconds, i was able to restart the car and it acted normally. i was able to continue on my way. i parked the car several times and had normal restarts. i headed home. i only got a few miles before the yellow wrench light came on and then the yellow engine light. i was not possible at this point to restart the car without the yellow wrench light coming on immediately. i had the car towed to a local dealership. they determined the car had an error code p2111. the dealer replaced the throttlebody. *tr
This is the third incident (different days) where i've been driving and the car starts to lose power. the wrench light came on and the car stutters and loses power. the past two times (different days), it happened once and i shut the car off and restarted and it was fine. today i went 3-4 miles in the city and it happened 5-6 times in a short period. i have a scheduled appointment with the ford dealership in our area. they said they do this same repair (throttle) 2-3 times a week. i am very frustrated and disgusted with ford. there have been numerous reports and still no recall. are they waiting until someone gets killed before they will do something? the dealership said it would cost about $500 and luckily they have the part in stock. *tr
Drove off from work and shortly after i noticed the car slowed down and started to vibrate and finally lost power. i was able to pull over, i turned off car then tried to restart but it did the same thing. i then decided to shut it off again and give it more time surely after a few minutes it seemed to be fine but right before getting home it happened again. husband drove to autozone and had a diagnostic check and results were..."trouble shooting problem from auto zone code p2111 the throttle actuator control system". *tr
When i drive on i26 in nc going up hill. gas peddler just quit working and slow speed down fast. i was hurry pull over. dang 18 wheeler is piss off me for front of truck. they blow horn loud which i know they mad me. i have no choice to pull front truck because they can slow down. i not want car in middle of hwy. that scare me. i turn off for min to calm down my self. then i try start again and gas peddler back working. but next day i was in local store it did again so i pull over side rd i did hit mailbox because i can not speed up. ford dealer act like they not know why. after i read website learn that many of 2010 fusion have same problem. i went back show the print. he say ohoh yeah i know this then say 400 dollar change part in just 30 min. i refuse buy because he lie to me. what can i do? what is correct price? *tr
This is the second incident where i've been driving and the car started to lose power. the wrench light came on and the car started stuttering. i was able to pull over to the side of the road and shut the car off and restart. it started a little rough so i turned off the air, and it drove fine. i'm seeing a lot of comments from others that they are having the same problem and it ends up being the throttle. i'm now deciding my next step. *tr
While traveling on i64 sunday september 8th on the way home from williamsburg , my car , while in a lot of heavy traffic on the interstate , stalled and the " wrench " light came on . luckily i had good control of the car to pull off the interstate . the car lost all power and wouldn't response to throttle input. the car was shut off and after 10 minutes, attempt to restart car which was successful. car run normally for about 140 additional miles, then stalled to low power and lack of throttle response yet again. turning off and then turning back on was unsuccessful in getting the vehicle to run normal again. tow truck was called and vehicle towed to local ford dealership. was informed that the throttle body was the culprit and was on backorder. if this is a known problem, why are people being put at risk for serious injury or death, without being informed of the potential of probable stalling. *tr
My car's throttle has failed about 20 times over the last few days. about 10 of those failures occurred on a dangerous interstate highway in heavy traffic. the car loses throttle and must be pulled to the side of the road, turned off, and restarted each time. the potential for an accident was high and i consider myself lucky. *tr
Wednesday, two days before the incident i had taken my vehicle to ford for the $423.74 recommended 60,000 miles service. the car had never stalled before this scheduled service. friday i was traveling on a three lane interstate in traffic and passing a vehicle in the left hand lane when i realized that i had completely lost power. everything was working, steering, air, radio, etc. but there was no power when pressing the gas pedal. i was placed in a dangerous situation as i made my way without power to the right hand lane and the side of the road coasting slowly. as i slowed i once tried moving the car from drive to low but still no power. when my car had almost stopped i could feel a bumpy low power as i pressed the gas. the car stopped and i turned off the engine. i immediately tried to start the car again but nothing happened. it was like the starter was bad, but after 5 minutes the car started and behaved normally. i immediately took the car back to the ford dealer and was told it was the throttle body and that there is a problem with it but not a recall. it costs over $500 to fix. i was lucky not to have been involved in an accident because of this problem. there needs to be a recall. this is unacceptable. *tr
While driving this morning my car seemed to "surge". almost felt like it was going to stall a few times at stop lights and such. then while going 45-50 mph my car wouldn't respond when i pushed the accelerator. when i pulled to the side of the road, the car started shaking. there was a wrench light in my dash that came on. when i turned off the car i restarted it and it ran with the surging problem until i reached my destination. no wrench light when i restarted the car. *jb
2010 ford fusion, maintenance light comes on and all gas/throttle is cut to rough idle with no response. this incident has almost caused accidents to stalling while trying to cross roads. you have to remove the key and restart 1-4 times before the light goes away and you can use the throttle, all while it may shut off again after you get moved just a little way. *tr
Car stopped just as i was making a left hand turn in a busy intersection. put flashers on, re-started the car and limped through the intersection on a yellow light, and pulled over. limped to a ford dealership 7 miles away and had the throttle body replaced for $444. *tr
Pe13-003 my 2009-2011 ford escape, fusion, mariner and milan electronic throttle body malfunction 21-feb-2013 my 2010 ford fusion 4 cylinder has malfunctioned twice in two days with sudden power loss and the wrench icon of the gauge cluster. each time, the engine would drop to 800 rpm and crawl at less then 20 mph. the first incident was near hunt auto as leaving a 4-way stop on sunday with near 90 degree heat. the second was monday while on i-65 n near millersville at 68 mph. scary. both times i had to pull over, inspect the idle behavior, turn the car off, wait 30 seconds then turn-on again fine with normal behavior. after research, this appears to be under investigation by the nhtsa since feb 2013 as likely throttle body issues of this engine type. i have sent this info to my local ford dealer www.huntauto.com. please advise and assist as possible. *jb
Driving southbound on georgia 400 in center right and car engine stops. pushed gas pedal a few times, but car would not respond and slowed down quickly. was heading uphill just south of the chatahoochee river. electrical was working as radio remained on and i was able to apply hazard lights and coast to the shoulder. placed card in park and turned ignition off. immediately turned ignition on and car started. was able to drive car to destination with no issue. i paid ford dealership to replace throttle body and motor assembly. *tr
Driving on a busy interstate highway when suddenly my car looses power and goes into limp mode. absolutely no throttle response. wrench light indicator came on. i pulled over to the side of the road and my car shuttered a bit as i slowed down. turned the car off and waited a minute before restarting. restarted sluggishly. began driving again and no more than 5 minutes later, the same thing happened. this time the check engine light came on. once again, turned car off, restarted and began driving again. made it into a local brake/muffler shop where they were kind enough to diagnose the problem for me. error code p2112 came over with a description about the throttle body actuator being stuck closed. they informed me they've seen this problem many times and it seems to be a common issue. it made sense to me because, leading up to this event, i had been experiencing a lagging throttle. it has happened to me twice more since this initial occurrence. *jb
Driving on highway, traveling at appx 65-70 miles per hour - car started rattling and then slowed down considerably - car did not stall, but pressing on the gas pedal and the car did not accelerate. was able to safely pull over, turned the car off, tried to drive, but the car wouldn't drive - engine worked fine, but car would not move forward or backward. yellow wrench light came on. had car towed to dealership. was told it needs a new throttle body assembly. *jb
Driving in far left lane at highway speed. the car had been on for about 10 minutes after sitting in parking lot all day. it was 96 degrees. car started to vibrate and slow down. i noticed that the tool light was on. obviously i had entered into limp mode and found a way to cross four lanes of rush hour traffic to make it to the emergency lane. once stopped engine loped erratically and would not accelerate. engine was non-responsive to pedal changes. put car in park and shut the engine off. i waited 30 seconds and started the car again and drove home (26 miles) without further incident. it should be noted that i have experienced surging in the engine this past week. symptoms point to the throttle body; but this is speculation as i have not had the car diagnosed by a professional. i am aware that there is a current investigation into this matter. this event happened at highway speeds and could have been disastrous. driving can be inherently dangerous and parts do break; but, the fact that this has been a known issue for quite some time warrants an additional report.
As i was driving on the interstate, my car began to lose power and i could not accelerate. fortunately, i was in the far right lane and was able to pull off the highway safely. had i been in the center or far left lane, my safety and that of my passenger could have been seriously jeopardized. aaa towed me to a ford dealer and it was necessary to replace the throttle body. i have since learned that this is a common problem with this model and believe a recall should be in order. *jb
Turned onto side street traveling at about 30 mph. suddenly lost power and car began to buck and chug. car stalled twice and re-started but only could go between 5 and 10 mph, bucking all the way about a mile or so to a service station where i left it to be repaired. had to call friends for a ride home. it actually bucked more going downhill where i was able to get up to 10 mph. mechanic replaced throttle body housing at a cost of $543.56, parts, labor and tax. running the car like that also fouled spark plugs and it cost me another $285.00 for a tune up. *tr
Without warning, engine stalled on highway at 60 mph causing rapid deceleration. after restart, continued intermittent stalling without warning creating a hazardous situation. *tr
Car suddenly without any warning loses all power. faulty electronic throttle control.
On august 18,2013 i was driving about 50 mph when car went limp( did not stall), idle was very rough. after trying for about 10 minutes to figure out what was wrong, we turned off engine and restarted car. the car was fine for the next week. then on august 25, 2013 the same thing happened again. again, repeated turning engine off and restarted. on august 26, 2013, i was wait in a drive through and the car stalled. i had to keep the car running by two footing it ( one foot on gas all the time and one on break as to not hit the car in front of me). i then called my mechanic and we replaced the battery since it read weak, and no codes come up when put on computer. that did not fix the problem. after he did research on the problem, he replaced the throttle body. this should be a recall part. it is going to cause a death one of these times when the car goes limp traveling on highways and such. *jb
It 68000 miles had to replace the throttle body on this 2010 ford fusion 2.5 .this is not under the 80000 mile coverage, and it is a part of the fuel system that is covered. *tr
I had just started and was exiting a retail establishment. i was driving down a slight incline approaching a stop light when the car started shaking and dramatically lost speed. the wrench light came on which according to the manual indicates a possible powertrain/transmission issue. i turned the car off and then restarted (in the middle of the road) and drove to a safe location. i was lucky that at the time i was driving at a slow speed and approaching a stop light. if a car had been behind me someone would have been injured. *tr
I was driving down the interstate and i pushed the gas pedal but the car would not accelerate. this happened twice within 2 miles. i took the car to a local garage and they said it was the throttle body. i took the vehicle to my local ford dealership and paid for it to be fixed because the car was no longer under warranty. hopefully if there is a recall, i can get reimbursed for my repair bill. *tr
Gasoline is leaking through welded seam of gas tank. *tr
Driving down i-95 at 70mph when the throttle cut out. an amber wrench trouble light was illuminated on the right side of the instrument panel. pulled of to the side of the hwy. able to restart the car, but the engine cut out again about 2 miles down the road. started up again and limped to a parking lot. this time the amber, check engine light was on. called dealership and they said it sounded like a throttle body problem. i was able to limp home for 15 miles. had to maintain the engine at 1500 rpm or below. as soon as i went above 1500 rpm, engine would cut out or start choking and had no throttle. *tr
My wife and son were in the car and had stopped at a busy 4-way stop intersection. with no prior warning the car started to shake and the check engine light and battery light came on. the power steering was barely working and the car stalled just past the intersection. they were able to restart the car, but the minute the car was put in drive it would start shaking etc.... we had to have the car towed back to van bortel ford in east rochester ny for repairs. the dealership stated that we needed a new throttle body ($465.34) and a new battery ($123.90) on a 3 year old car. they indicated they new of a possible recall and told us to hang on to our receipt for a refund if the recall happens. *tr
8/11/13 driving home after church, traveled approximately 1.5 miles when wrench light came on and vehicle lost power. no throttle response. coasted off highway and after three cranking cycles it restarted with no lights activated. drove next 15 miles home with no problem. 8/12/13 driving in town after approximately 1.5 miles the same thing occurred. after three cranking cycles it restarted and drove home with no lights. plugged scanner in at home and found code on freeze frame of p2111 indicating throttle stuck open. looked online in ford fusion forum and found several others with same issue. ford indicates the throttle body needs replacing. i believe this a safety issue that ford should recall and repair at no cost to the consumer. my 16 year old daughter drives this car and stalling in the middle of traffic or losing throttle response is not a safe situation for her to be in, especially if this occurs when pulling into traffic. *tr
After accelerating away from a stop-sign the engine abruptly began to run exceedingly poorly, and lost nearly all power. i was unable to accelerate or maintain speed. after pulling onto the shoulder and stopping i was able to restart the car, but attempts to drive it would result in stalling at about 5mph. after about perhaps 50 feet. the car was subsequently towed to the dealership where the throttle-body was replaced at my cost. *tr
As i was driving on the interstate the car rpm jumped and the car proceeded to shake a bit. when i tried to give the car gas nothing happened. we had to pull off to the side of the road, when the car began to shake much harder. we were forced to turn the car off, wait a moment a turn the car back on. it has done this two us a couple of times while we wait for the part to come in. *tr
Friday august 9, 2013 turning right on green light and lost all forward power, but engine did not stall car would move very slowly on engine idle. turned key off then car started back up ran ok. sunday august 11, 2013 driving in traffic a 45mph lost all forward power was able to stop at the side of the road without being rear ended in traffic. monday august 12, 2013 turning left out of driveway into traffic lost all forward power was able to get to curb before being t-boned in traffic. on monday august 12, 2013 had throttle body assembly replaced at a cost of $488.56. $324.34 for a part that should last longer then 45,000 miles. *tr
Car loses power and stalls at city or highway speeds (have to pull over). car shuts down when idling. ford was contacted by our service center and we're told we need a new throttle body, but they are on back-order. there are at least 5000 orders ahead of us. service person said he is not aware of a recall for this problem. car was purchased new. *tr
While driving to my brother-in-law's house my car abruptly shut off not allowing me to push in the gas at all. the rpms were at 1. i came to a rolling stop and shut the car off. i restarted the car an drove 1/4 mile further and the car did the same thing. luckily my husband was with me and felt it happen, he was able to limp it to the closest ford dealer where they told me my throttle body needed to be replaced at a ridiculous cost. my extended warranty does not cover this and after reading endless things about throttle bodies on ford vehicles this seems to be a very common problem. i am so very thankful that my car didn't shut off on the interstate with my children in the car. i can only imagine what could have happened. i do not believe that the endless number of customers should have to pay for such a critical part of our vehicle to have to be replaced. in my opinion a recall should be in place because what is happening is not a simple problem, it is very dangerous. *tr
I was driving on the highway at about 70 mph. the car suddenly shut down and started coasting. pressing the gas pedal did nothing. the throttle control/transmission warning light came on. i coasted off of the highway and turned off my car. i turned the car back on, warning light was gone, car drove fine the rest of the way to my destination. next morning the exact same thing happened. stopped at an auto repair shop. they could not diagnose the problem. got back on the highway and made it to my destination without incident. *tr
We just bought the car the day before and as my son backed it out of the driveway the car lost power. after turning the engine off and on again he was able to drive the car normally. the car was driven without any problems for about two weeks. but after about two weeks, the car was being driven at about 40mph when it suddenly lost power. after coasting to the side of the road and turning the engine off and on again it briefly regained power but the car went only about 100ft before losing power again. after letting the car sit for 20 minutes we were able to start it and drive the remaining half mile home. we had dismissed the first incident as possibly being a mistake on the part of my son driving an unfamiliar vehicle and perhaps not shifting properly when backing out of the driveway. but the second incident was clearly an indication of a failure on the part of the vehicle. it was not safe to drive. although the problem was intermittent, a loss in power could happen at any time and could potentially leave us helpless without power in a dangerous situation. we had the car towed to a ford dealer who determined that the problem was a bad throttle body. they replaced it at a cost to us of $537. a throttle body that fails at less than 100,000 miles is defective and should be recalled because of the safety issue. *tr
Car died at cruising speeds and almost caused an accident. i feel it is dangerous for me to continue driving this vehicle even though it is almost new. i was told this is the throttle body? *tr
Car jerking and depressed pedal car not going. found that it is a throttle body issue. lucky i wasn't on the freeway when this happened. *tr
Car engine shut off at 40 mph , step on gas nothing happens. car jerks and sputters. must pull to side of road and shut off engine. wait 2 minutes and try to restart. returned to dealer without success 3 times. car has shut off 6 times since at different speeds and heavy traffic. a real safety hazard! *jb
Throttle body faults w/out warning (ford part 9e926). when driving at highway speed the engine light (wrench) appeared and the car abruptly lost acceleration decreasing immediately from 70 mph to approx 10 mph in high speed interstate traffic. engine idle bounced between 1.5 and 3.5 rpm causing the car to jerk and feel like it was going to stall. i was driving with my 5 year old son and was almost rear ended and nearly struck several times by other cars on the interstate still traveling at a high rate of speed while i had to switch lanes limping at 10mph. i was able to restart the car and clear the engine error after i reached the should and proceed. however this has continued to occur and even when the car is running without the engine light the rpm bounces around and the engine will not idle properly. the second time this happened i was in the middle of a busy intersection and lost thrust stalling and blocking oncoming traffic. in the last month i would estimate this has occurred 3-4 times per week during normal driving. i contacted ford and was informed there was no recall however the part is on indefinite back-order and unavailable to me for repair. it may be several weeks before i can even obtain the part. i am forced to drive this car not knowing when it's going to shut down again and hoping that i am not involved in an accident while i wait for the part. this is entirely unacceptable. *tr
While on highway the vehicle stuttered, lost all throttle power (no acceleration) and the wrench light came on. had to pull over to the nearest shoulder while losing speed. once stopped the car jittered and tugged and continued to do so even while in park! after turning the vehicle off and then waiting a while, it started up without the issue and without the wrench light on. after taking it to the ford dealership they told us it was the throttle body and that we would have to wait until it was ordered because it was backordered and also they said we would not be covered for this under warranty. i suspect they know of their faulty products and had the audacity to charge so much to get it fixed. this is truly a safety hazard. *tr
Fuel inlet error on dash..transmission shifts hard when pulling out. *jb
The car has died unexpectedly. the wrench and engine light will go on, it did it once on july 27, aug. 24 and 25 and on sept 4, it died twice on the freeway in rush hour traffic. the ford service dept. diagnosed it as a "faltering throttle box". there is a wait of a month for these. *jb
Driving down a six lane highway at 50 mph, car suddenly shuts down, barely idling. was fortunate enough to get over to the side of the road where the car stalled. was towed to a shop where the problem was misdiagnosed as a bad battery. new battery put in and same problem happened 36 hours later. computer was checked this time and was giving a p2111 error code which is a stuck throttle body sensor. could have been a real problem if the event happened at interstate speed, or making a left turn in heavy traffic. internet is full of similar problems with this vehicle. *tr
Just adding to the list. twice in the past two weeks my husband has experienced the same issue as everyone else posting a safety complaint about their 2010 ford fusion. he found himself not able to accelerate while driving on the highway. the first time he brought the car into a ford dealership. they found no issue, and apparently are not aware of the overall issue. this morning (after the second occurrence) he brought the car into a non-dealership auto mechanic - no word from them yet. i am worried about his safety, and frustrated that ford has not issued a recall given how wide-spread and long-known this problem is. *tr
Throttle body shorted battery and caused engine to stall in traffic. when trying to restart, engine sped up fast became very dangerous. ford has these throttle bodys on back order... that's sad. pls recall asap before someone loses their life. *tr
While accelerating up a hill or incline, the motor powered down to the point of stalling, whereby i was almost involved in an accident. this has happened twice today, and on one occasion in december 2012, but the specifics i cannot recall. *tr
