Passenger door latch/lock broke, unable to open door from the inside. i have own this fusion since 2008 this is the third time a door latch/lock has broken. the previous two times have been on the driver side, first time mileage was around 40,000 second time was around 80,000. believe this can be a safety issue is the car is into a car accident or is force into the water the driver or passenger would be unable to escape the car. *tr

Driver's door on left side of vehicle, door lock and unlock latch broke, rendering door inoperative, can only enter and exit vehicle by using outside door latch (roll down window, reach your arm out, pull latch to open, roll window back up and exit vehicle, but will not lock) and door will no longer lock, remains unlocked at all times, part number 6e5z5422601a is the faulty part plastic breaks jamming the unlock latch from moving. the chrome plastic of the handle is nice, but clearly a metal composition should have been used in the design instead of plastic, after researching on the web appears to be several consumers with the same issue. part prices range from $70.00 - $192.00 depending on the seller / business, such and issue that even the chinese are making money by manufacturing the part. safety concerns are exiting the vehicle in an accident, the driver is trapped, have not seen anything on web of accident deaths due to fault, but i'm sure it's coming. *tr

The youtube video ford fusion door latch problem by oldfredsshed 3:22 minutes describes the problem exactly i'm having with my inner doors latches on my 2008 ford fusion. the doors handles are breaking and i think this is a design flaw. i googled the problem i'm having with my door handles and many people are having this same problem. i have contacted the ford motor company and they say this is not a recall or warranty problem. citrus ford wants me to pay $265 just to replace one handle and i think this should have been a recall item. this is a safety issue. in an emergency and you can't open the door and with power windows and no power this could be a matter of life and death. *tr

We own a 2008 ford fusion 6 cyl. awd. shortly after we bought it we started having trouble with the rear passenger door. the door handle on the outside will not go back into place and the door will not shut. the drivers door handle on the inside broke and cracked and door will not lock. here lately when we are driving all of a sudden the car will sound like a sledge hammer is being banged underneath the car making the car shake. we were told that it is either the transferring case or some other car. it will cost $950 or $1500 for the part not counting labor fees. the dealership did not give us the warranty that they said it came with. we were told by the mechanic that this problem is common with the ford fusion and the ford escape. for some reason the awd wants to kick in when you reach 25 mph. if this is a common problem then these vehicles need to be recalled before someone gets hurt. everyone that rides in our car and it starts acting up, wants to jump out of the car. *tr
