My car randomly surges. this usualy happens at low speeds when the car is at or close to idle. the car will sugre like the gass is being pressed but it is definetly not. it also surges randomly when shifted into different gears park, reverse, neutral. it is very dangerous as it is inpredictable.

My freestyle accelerators/ lunges forward for "no reason" when i'm pushing on brake to park. this has happened numerous times at grocery store, wal-mary etc. last tuesday was the scariest. i was with my mom driving to the bank and as i was parking it accelerated much more than it normally does. we hopped the curb and almost crashed into the bank wall. my foot was on the brake! i have seen several mechanics who have no clue and can't find anything wrong. i went immediately to seen another recommend seasoned mechanic who said he had no idea what it could be and saw nothing wrong. i'm scared to drive my cat or even park it. i only park away from other cars now. if someone would have been in front of my cat at the bank, they would have been seriously injured. i googled the problem and saw other people had reported the same thing and i'm hoping that you guys can tell me what the issue was since there were numerous other complaints. thank you so much for your time.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford freestyle. while driving 25 mph, the vehicle accelerated and the throttle control and transmission warning indicators illuminated. the contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road and powered off the engine. the vehicle was restarted and was able to operate normally; however, the failure recurred. in addition, the vehicle would accelerate without warning at traffic lights, stop signs, or when making turns. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repair. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 126,000.

The car is self accelerating!! it is very scary. it does it when i am on drive trying to slow down and stop or when i have been parked and try to backup slowly to move in reverse. it therefore, happens mostly at red lights, stop signs, and in parking lots. i am terrified the car will run over a person crossing the street or walking behind my car in a parking space. when the car self accelerates, it does it suddenly and forcefully. in that split second i slam on the brakes to avoid running over a crossing pedestrian or winding up at crossroads and cause an accident. when i step on the brakes, the car shakes and dies. i have to quickly restart the car again. this constant dying and restarting of the car at red lights and parking lots had drained my battery. this exact self accelerating problem happened in 2011. it was "fixed" at the maxwell ford dealership in 5000 south i-35 78745. they said it was the throttle. i had a new ac compressor put in recently and suddenly the problem came back. the last four years the ac has not worked well. i wonder if there is a a connection between the proper functionality of both parts - the throttle and the ac. i am desperate to have it repaired again, and of course at no expense of mine since it has been obviously a continuous factory/design defect. please help, i have less than $200 in my account and i depend on my car for my livelihood.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford freestyle. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds above 50 mph with the accelerator pedal depressed, the vehicle decelerated below 30 mph independently causing an abnormal knocking sound from the transmission. the powertrain warning senor illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the local hertrich ford-lincoln dealer of milford located on 1427 bay rd, milford, de, 19963 where it was diagnosed that multiple error codes internally with the transmission, and that the transmission would need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that they would record the failure, however there was no recall for the failure but were aware of the high volume of complaints. the failure mileage was approximately 98,897.

Unknown reason: on dec.28 2016 i@ 1535 i was driving on interstate #30 in arkansas. i was driving @ a speed of 70 mph when all the power went off in my car. i was unable to turn on flashers or restart car. behind me was a 18 wheeler and on my right side was a car. i immediately began to lose speed. it just so happened that the other drivers noticed i was in trouble. both drivers put their hazard lights on and slowed traffic enabling me to steer the car ( with no power) to the shoulder. i put the car in park turned the radio and heater off and tried to restart it. it did restart but i left the radio and heater off. i was 34.1 mi from home. i prayed all the way home and did not drive over 60 mph.( i could have been killed !!!). when i finally arrived at home, i put my car in park and the car turned itself off. the car keys were still in the on position! i have checked the ford website online, nhtsa website, called the customer relationship center @ 1-866-436-7332 and riser ford lincoln in hot springs, ark @ 1 -888 -547 -3820 ( this is where i bought the car) trying to find recall notices. if there are some please let me know. thank you. *tr

Having vehicle surging and stalling when decrease speed - found your action number pe11018 that describes my issue. never received a letter from ford sent in 2012 that issues a free fix for this. we have been at current address 20+ years. fix is to 150k miles and we are at 156k - ford is refusing to fix. please help as it is a danger to my family to be driving this vehicle and i would have never known about the "recall" if not for a ford forum when i was researching the issue.

My 2007 ford freestyle cuts off repeatedly after almost every red light stop. i saw a lot of complaints about this matter with different ford freestyles and no one seems to know the cause. mainly anytime i apply the brakes the cut shuts off and puts myself and family in life- threatening situations. also, the vehicle idles high while my feet on on the breaks.

I have 2007 ford freestyle, on multiple occasions when you have the brake pressed waiting to back up or start forward the car surges and lunges forward like it's trying to go on it's own. we have had the throttle system cleaned and it helped for a little bit now it's getting worse. and recently it does the lunging surge then the wrench light comes on and the car loses all power and cuts off , you have to put it in gear , restart the car and try again. i'm scared with the surging that i'm going to get in a accident. ford says it's not a recall and they investigated and don't know the cause.

April 2015, my vehicle started making knocking/grinding/ticking noises once it was started. sometimes the transmission would fail to shift into gear(s). i prodeeded to physically move my shifter into gear(s) a few times. the transmission then shifted into gear(s), making a hard "clunk" sound. sounding like the transmission had 'dropped' into gear; as if it had a low trasmission fluid level. mind you, recently, a local shop changed my oil and all fluids were checked and refilled if needed. the shop informed me about code p0942, because they had never seen this code before in their life! engine-codes.com states: "p0942 - hydraulic pressure unit" with a rating of 3/3 (3=high). i called a local ford dealership, and was informed about this code; which doesn't identify the actual problem/issue; resulting in no specifics. on thursday, august 20, 2015, while driving on the highway, my vehicle started to surge, and the rpm's continuously fluctuated (while the cruise was on). my vehicle then started to shake, and made a thumping/crunching noise, followed with the forward propulsion ceasing to exist. i frantically turned my fore ways on, and drifted until at a complete stop on the sholder of the highway. again, while i physically shifted gear(s), the transmission sounded low on fluid, as if no (valid) shifting of gear(s)s and also maintained a humming noise. from the passenger seat, my 12 year old son, grabbed my hand and asked me to pray with him; pray that we'd make it home without getting hurt (our safety). numerous times our vehicle shook tremendously when other vehicles passed by. once home, i was still calming my son down, we both needed to sleep. that night, my son and i experienced a tramatic (nightmare like) situation. now, ford customers are forced upon (a) safety hazzard(s). yes, preventable safety hazzard(s), if dealt with asap.

I purchased this vehicle 01/20/15 from a used lot in raleigh nc, 'something you should never do in the first place''. i had just got off maternity leave and i needed a car so i could be able to get to work. on the 4th of april 2015. i was driving the car on the highway when it started to jerk back and make a very loud roaring sound. the car started to slow down and jerk back and forth if you went over 20 miles per hour. i pulled over to check the car and i could not figure out what was wrong with it so i called my husband and he came. the car could still drive but very slowly while making the same sound so he drove very slowly behind me. keep in mind i had my two month old in the back seat when all of this craziness was happening. next day i couldn't even drive the car because of the poor condition it was in. when we took it to a specialized mechanic for this cvt transmission it has, they notified us after waiting four to five hours to replace this unique engine it would cost $4-$6,000 dollars. that is insane to have to replace the entire transmission after only having it for two months and to replace it because ''ford'' is too cheap and inconsiderate to not recall this piece of crap of a car. how can ford ignore this issue that it is causing world wide. it is not just one or two minor issues it is the entire transmission that needs to be replaced. wake up ford!! this is a terrible vehicle to sell to the american people!! i wouldn't even sale this vehicle in foreign countries!! my advice to anyone is to never ever buy any ford vehicles!! this was a nightmare!! *tr

So i used to have problems with the rpm surge in my car then a customer satisfaction program (csp) came out and i had the throttle body deposits cleaned as per the csp12n03 in april of 2013. i have not had any issues until july 2014. major issue- i was on the interstate on july 27th and my car began decelerating really quickly. the wrench light came on during this deceleration and i had to come to a stop in the v where cars are merging onto the interstate. i had to stop because my car slowed so drastically that i would have not made it to the shoulder of the road and would have gotten hit by another motorist. when i came to a stop my car was actually still running, i manually turned the car off. after i sat for a moment, i decided i would see if my car would crank. the car cranked and died and finally stayed cranked, i decided to try to move the car. the wrench light was no longer on and the car did exactly what a normal car would do. i was able to get up to speed and exit and drive the rest of the way home. i took it for diagnostics, the ford dealership where i live say that it is the throttle body (the part that had a csp on it). i do not feel that i should have to pay 1000 dollars or more to have a faulty part replaced. obviously something is wrong with this otherwise ford would not have had the part cleaned. i would like for ford to replace the part on my car and anyone else's vehicles that is having the throttle issues. even though after some of the parts have been replaced, the issue starts again. i noticed that some of the investigations into ford throttle issues include years 2009 and newer for that limp mode thing, however, my car is a 2007 and totally did the decelerating on the interstate. it was very frightening and i would like this issue to become a recall for a replacement. i called ford and filed a complaint today, 9/15/2014. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford freestyle. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 5 mph, the vehicle erroneously accelerated forward. on another occasion while driving various speeds, the vehicle would not accelerate over 35 mph. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 50,914.

I was driving out of the driveway and onto a somewhat busy street. as i attempted to accelerate, i noticed i could not go any faster than about 10 mph despite being in a zone of approximately 35 mph. after traveling less than a mile at this speed, i turned around and return the car to the driveway. i then proceeded to have it towed to a repair shop, who reported this was a transmission issue. this repair shop asked for our permission to tow the vehicle to another shop who specializes in transmission issues. we agreed then later received word that the transmission was "shot" and the cost to repair would be in the area of approximately $4,500. when i looked up the value of the car on line, it was showing it's running value of approximately the same amount. the transmission repair shop stated that they were told by a local ford dealer that the models of 2005 through 2007 ford freestyle's cvt type of transmission was the cause of the problem. they were also told that ford didn't have sufficient inventory of parts to repair the transmission, and by the way there was no recall notice out on them since parts weren't available. i am now stuck with a car that will not run, nor can i sell or trade in as it has little to no value at this time. ford needs to step up and take responsibility for this faulty designed cvt transmission's. *tr

2007 ford freestyle vin # [xxx]. have had car for less than 2 years. replaced brakes twice. the throttle seems to be sticking and transmission. wrench on dash. have two small children. car will accelerate on own when foot is on brake. it has also jumped backwards. concerned about this dangerous vehicle. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

The vehicle surges forward or backward -- has done for a while. noticed a marked increase when running the ac when researching this - i also became aware that this has been an issue for many years with this vehicle as per previous nhtsa complaints. i will reference one pe11018. *tr

Stopped at signal light, wrench light and engine light illuminated. when attempted to accelerate, vehicle rpm's moved erratically and vehicle would not drive above 35mph. had vehicle towed to transmission shop and was told vehicle went into "fail safe mode" transmission is none repairable and needs to be replaced. previously had car serviced under recall with throttle. one day prior, the car "surged/lunged" when put in reverse. had recall done 12 months ago and just went over 12000 miles since work done. *tr

Unexpected acceleration burst and some times i will be driving and the engine totally shuts off there is no check engine light on and ford ran a diagnostic with no apparent problem. *tr

My wife & i were visiting a friends house with my wife driving. she put the van into reverse to leave with her foot on the brake. it suddenly took off at a high rate of speed & would not stop even with both. feet on the brake. we shot out the driveway at high speed & continued down the roadway until my wife lost control & crashed into a ditch; the only thing that stopped the van was hitting a large rock. this of course caused damage to the passenger side rear quarter panel. my wife suffered a small cut to her calf; i was uninjured. we were very lucky there were no other vehicles in the roadway at that time or it could have been very dangerous !! my wife is so shook up by this incident that she now refuses to drive her van. *tr

After starting the 2007 ford freestyle it idols about 1000rpms. upon putting it into drive or reverse when you lift off the brake the car will rev up the engine to about 2000rpms and speed forward or backward. this rev of the engine last approximately 1 second and then the car returns to normal idol speed. this creates a dangerous situation in which if you do not anticipate the acceleration you could have an accident. *tr

I have had my 2007 ford freestyle since 2008. this car has been a money pit. i have had to get a water pump, ac compressor, and throttle body, now it needs an expensive faulty transmission replaced called cvt transmission. the car is now parked for safety and to avoid further damage. the issue that i have experienced is while my foot completely on the break, the car has darted forward with out my ability to stop it. i have had this happen with people walking in front of me in the cross walk while at the stop light and my car has darted at them. scary!! to say the least. i would not be surprised if anyone else has hit someone due to this problem. i don't drive the car anymore because it shut off on me while in traffic, unexpectedly, gratefully the person behind me was paying attention. i have fixed the ac compressor, throttle body, and water pump, i cannot possibly replace the transmission, i have 3 children and now without a car. i would not feel safe even after it is fixed. from reading other complaints this car is made faulty, and is going to fell me in some other expensive or dangerous way. to my knowledge ford has discontinued making the freestyle and is now making taurus in its place. they should have recalled every single ford freestyle, this car is dangerous!!!!!!!!!!!! it has been made to fail, i hope ford can restore my trust in them. i do not want any other ford because of this. *tr

When i have the car in park and am ready to reverse or drive forward, it seems like it wants to take off on its own before i even let go of the brake or give it gas. this can cause an accident to occur without me having an control over it. this is not safe!! *tr

First happened the day i bought the vehicle used with 93,000 miles. i was backing out of a parking space and the vehicle lunged. it also turned off. it did it twice in a row. then no problems for another few hundred miles. it does it every tank or so of gas. occasionally it will be accompanied with the wrench light. i brought it to a local auto shop when the light was on (pure luck because it turns off quickly after) and it coded something but then when the searched the code it came up as not matching my vehicle! i am bringing it to a dealership next week for service before a long road trip and hope to have the throttle body cleaned. from what i gather this is a known and widespread problem with this vehicle. i really wish they would recall it and fix it! *tr

While driving on the freeway, the wrench on the dash board lit up and the car started jerking, and rpm's went to 8000. pulled off to side of the highway and towed the car home. the throttle body was "cleaned" by ford and the car is still the same. car jumps forward during traffic stops and goes into safe mode. *tr
