My vehicle stalls every week steering and brakes hard to control, my wife drives the vehicle. took it to many shops, no codes stored in computer cannot find problem. i had the throttle body cleaned, replaced fuel pump, same fault. the car is unsafe hard to stop sometimes when engine shuts off. ford dealer cannot find the problem.
My 2005 ford freestyle speedometer fluctuates on its on causing the car to jump forward and take off slow with very little power it does it when sitting in park with the car turned on and while driving
All engine lights come on at various times with no working gauges, but car drives. withing past year, had instrument cluster replaced 2 times, alternator replaced twice, injector coils & spark plugs, cleaned/replaced, battery replaced, throttle body assembly & gasket, . had diagnosed at 2 ford dealers in different states and neither can figure out what is causing all the dashboard lights to stay on. both dealers were adament it was the instrument cluster, which clearly it is not since the error lights are still on. have been told it could be electrical or rcm, but there is no way to test for either. dealer wants me to foot the (hourly / union) labor rate while they try to figure it out. currently car is currently with local mechanic who is going over the car to figure it out. nothing has been determined yet.
Was stopped in traffic, then when i slowly took my foot off the brake to move, the engine revved up, then surged forward very quickly, i stepped on the brake again, but it wasn't enough to stop the car. i never touched the gas pedal. this resulted in me slamming into the car in front of me
On several occasions, my 05 freestyle lunges forward, transmission is engaged in the drive position and when in reverse, it also lunges. often when stopped at a light the car will not accelerate. it will stumble all over itself and dies. i've almost been hit on a couple occasions because i couldn't get across an intersection or out of the way. on several occasions while driving, it loses power and will not accelerate. had a a mechanic look at it. he said the throttle body was gummed up and he cleaned it. it ran good for a couple days and it's back to doing the same thing. the car only has 72310 miles on it. this problem has been going on for a couple years and has gotten significantly worse.
2005 ford freestyle has a constant scraping sound from the transmission when i am driving it. we paid $ 200.00 for ford mechanic to change out the transmission fluid with new fluid kit & he did find metal & brass shavings from tranny in oil pan. mechanic says the transmission needs to be replaced with new one but i can't afford to pay $4,000.00 it will take to do it. i found out the cvt transmissions all sooner or later ,but mostly sooner ; fail because they are notorious for it . bad design for that transmission & they still robbing the owners of these vehicles as i speak ! man up & pay for your mistakes like those in society must when they have robbed others and got caught. i'd like to know why it's let go thus far & who then is accountable ??
Door latches freezing every winter and doors will not latch and stay shut. also went to ford website and realized there was a recall for fsa title: engine idle rpm surge extended warranty field service action number: 12n03. i was unaware of this recall and my car does this quite frequently and i am afraid the tens years is up for this to be taken care of. when pull up to a stop sign or red light, sometimes the engine will rev really high and lurch forward causing me to stomp on brake pedal really hard.
Transmission issues. started making awful noises and low acceleration. went to mechanic and told the transmission is shot
Car is lunging forward and backwards
If we change gears with the a/c on the car lunges when we're trying to come to a stop. it lunges as we're parking or pulling up to a stop sign or stop light. after stopping it will continue to lunge without warning if it is in drive...it will even lunge as we try to shift to park. we are afraid we will hit someone walking in a cross walk or hit the car in front of us while parking. during lunging you can hear the engine rev louder. lunges while stopping and while being stopped. this has been happening for several years. i've read other posts with people saying the same thing happening. here is one example. http://www.myfordfreestyle.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5488
When driving down a 4 lane high way the car lost gas pedal check transmission light came on. this could have been fatal. with other vehicle speeds up to 65 mph behind my car... have had several garages look at it and still cant figure out the problem. now a tow bill labor and other compounding exspences.
I bought a 2005 ford freestyle last year 2015,for my daughter for her first starter vehicle. just last night the door latches started freezing up and the door wont close and opens while driving. apparently there is a recall for this so i called ford. they told me the recall was taken care of in 2006. the previous owner may have had a garage to keep it protected from cold but i don't have that option. since the repair was already done they wont take care of it and it is my problem to repair. i would thing this is a dangerous safety issue and they would want to take care of it since the first fix didn't work. my daughter is 17 and now i have to worry about the door opening while she is driving every time its cold and causing an accident or being injured herself.
Door latch is frozen closed and cannot get drivers side door to open. dismantled entire car to fix issue.
I have 2 issues: #1. back seat passenger door child safety locks are always on. every time i have a passenger in the back seats they are trapped, and cannot get out unless someone opens the doors from the outside or they pull up on the lock from he inside. ive had this problem since i purchased the car, but never thought i could file a complaint until i by coincidence came across your website today. #2. the e-brake does has not worked properly either for a long period of time, over a year, which i believe is a defect. because, every time i would engage it or disengage it, there was no tension, it felt "blank" for lack of better description, and just recently, i message on the dashboard has come up, and a bell keeps tinging, telling me the emergency brake is engaged while driving (when it is not!) and it does not matter what i try to do, i cannot make the sound or the message go away, nor does the e-brake work,! it does not engage or disengage. this dangerous for me, and my vehicle.
My ford freestyle has began to experience acceleration problems when parking or reversing at low speeds only while the a/c is running on any fan level. have come close to hitting a pedestrian while parking, but no serious injuries to report. updated 3/17/2015 *js
I purchased a ford freestyle sel 2005, on november 2005, from the ford dealer, brand new car. i am the only driver. my transmission started to make a noise on last week. i took the car to 2 different mechanics and both told me that it needs a new transmission!!! it is a cvt transmission, very expensive and only has 130,000 miles. this is a common issue apparently, but there is not a recall or nothing!!!! *tr
The transmission make a noise likes blending something, it doesn't change gears and after a wile doesn't acelerate.
The car jump in low speed and you have to apply the brakes, this was in direct drive or reverse. *tr
As i put my car into reverse it lunged without having my foot on the gas. i put the car into drive and it lunged forward in the same manor. all of the service lights lit up on the dash and a message about emergency engine flashed and then the car shut off. this happened one other time. if someone would have been in front or behind my vehicle it would have hit them. now my check charging system light is flashing on and off...but they have checked it and all parts seem to be in working order. i have had multiple things go wrong with this car and am getting worried that it is just going to totally stop working. *tr
Vehicle lurches forward/backward at low speeds and at stop lights which could cause an accident if a person was not paying attention. engine rpms increase accordingly even though foot is not on the accelerator. this occurs more frequently when ac is on. however, same issue occurs without ac on as well. while in park, the engine will rev up and down and sometimes quite all together and has progressively gotten worse over the last 6,000 miles.
Pulling into a parking spot the vehicle will surge and the brakes have to be pressed really quick so u don't hit the vehicle in front of u. it seems to happen more frequently when the air is running. it will also do this when u are backing up and going at a slow rate of speed. *tt
Vehicle appears normal first 10 minutes or so of driving, then traction control light and awd malfunction appear. ford diagnosed p1889 error code. noticed all ford recommendations for repair didn't resolve others' similar issues and that there is frequent reporting over this issue and ford doesn't know what to do. discovered this freestyle has a volvo rear and that haldex oil may need changing though they don't provide that recommendation in their maintenance manuals so it leads to these issues. when driving in snow, sometimes awd, then error code appears and driving becomes extremely unsafe as it shifts into 2wd. ford has changed my sensor and it still occurs. i plan to take further action to get this resolved and to make sure we are not taken advantage of. ford should be accountable.
Throttle body failure (see pe-11018). first incident vehicle would not start. would turn over but not start. then had incidences of lurching forward and also in reversed. second failure was same as first. after third failure, contacted local mechanic who in turn contacted local dealership who advised of problems with the throttle body. stated that, according to a service bulletin, the part could be reprogrammed but they had not had any success with this and were at that time installing the part on a customers vehicle due to unsuccessful reprogramming. part replaced on my vehicle at a cost of $546.56.
While at idle in reverse or forward car lunges and accelerates on its own if foot is not on brake 1this could cause serious accident or injury ive seen more complaints on this sight and relize that this is becoming a seriuos problem with these vehicles what can be about this problem. *tt
My car lunges forward when stopped at a light (brake is applied) or driving slow in the parking lot. it happens unexpectedly and lunges forward as if the accelator is being pushed quickly, even though my foot is on the brake to either be stopped or to slow down in a parking lot. i typically press the brake very hard to try to get control of the car to avoid hitting anything in front of me. it does concern me that i if it occurs, that i could hit the car in front of me at a light or possible a person walking through a parking lot. when driving home the other day (45 - 50 mph), my check charging system light also came on. i took it to the ford dealer. i explained to them the problem i had with the car lunging and the charging system light coming on. they checked it out and told me the car needed a new alternator and that this would fix the lunging issue and the charging system light issue. they put the new alternator in (which was not cheap) and i noticed on the way home that the car was still lunging. i was driving the following sunday morning and noticed the car continued to lunge when stoppled at a light. also, when i stopped at my mailbox the engine shut off and the charging system, engine oil, and emission control lights are coming on. needless to say the car is going back to the ford dealership monday morning. *tt
When you put the car into reverse or drive and sometimes when sitting at a light the car will lurch several feet with out putting my foot on the acelerator
My ford freestyle, lunges all the time. it makes it very difficult to parallel park. i have not had an accident, but i have been very close to hitting other parked cars. i lunges when my foot is on the brake if it's in reverse it lunges backwards. if it's in drive it lunges forward. this has been happening for a long time, my car is a 2005. it's been happening for at least the last 2 years. *tt
Vehicle is surging at low speeds. parking lot speeds. must apply brakes to stop motion. several feet covered before able to apply brakes. happened in excess of 10 times. car is at dealer now and they have witnessed to surging. car has been taken to ford service now and they have had it for 24 hours. they are stating they do not know the cause.
My 2005 ford freestyle crossover frequently lunges at low speeds and when the driver is not pressing the accelerator pedal. this problem seems to be occuring more often and with more power and is getting harder to stop. today it almost jumped over a parking lot curb at a retail store parking lot. it happens unexpectantly in forward and reverse and seams to be worse when the a/c is on. in fact, our a/c was not working properly and the problem was not near as bad. however, when the a/c was repaired (the expansion valves were replaced) the problem returned to its previous "strength" or stronger and more often. *tt
With the car in drive and my foot on the brake pedal, the car unexpectedly "surged" forward. i was able to control the car from hitting anyone/anything by applying the brake more forcefully, but this incident has occurred on repeated occasions now both in "drive" (when the car surges forward) and in "reverse" (when the car surges backwards). it seems particularly pronounced during hot days when the ac is running full blast. in each incident, i was traveling 5 mph or less, and had my foot on the brake, either preparing to park or pulling out of a parking spot. so far it has not caused an accident, but there is clearly something wrong with the speed control or the transmission. i have noticed numerous other complaints of a similar nature made online by other owners of 2005 and 2006 ford freestyles. there clearly seems to be a problem with the vehicle of this year, make and model and i am hoping ford will take responsibility and issue a recall in order to prevent future potential injury or death.
While backing out of a parking space, my vehicle "jumped" forward by itself. it then went into "engine override mode" and stalled. i was able to crank the vehicle back up and continue driving.
I own a 2005 ford freestyle with 88,000 miles and i had trouble with my car lunging forward this happen to me very bad today where trying to leave a parking space. i did have my air conditioning on high because it was 100 degrees in the midwest. the problem was the worst today since it started several months ago and my throttle control/transmission light came on. what do i do next? i need to get the vehicle fixed. do i need to contact ford? do i go ahead and pay to have it fixed? thanks so much.
Car lunges when stopped and/or stalls while in motion (up to 30mph). appears to occur more frequently in hot and humid weather. engine light came on and dealership stated throttle body needed to be replaced. researched online and numerous of other freestyle (and mercury) owners listed this issue. why isn't this part recalled? because no serious injuries or deaths have yet occurred?
2005 ford freestyle - when first putting my car into gear, either forward or reverse, the car lunges or "revs" up as if it is going to take off. placing my foot on the brake or having the air conditioner off or on low seems to help somewhat. in at least one incident, the car has gone into an "engine safe mode" and has stopped completely. luckily, i was in a not so crowded parking lot at the time. we recently had to have the air conditioner replaced in its entirety which has made the problem worse and more frequent. *tt
My 2005 ford freestyle periodically lunges when driving at low speeds, usually when i slow down to stop or put the car in reverse. i have experienced this problem a few times over the past couple years, but it seems like it is happening more frequently. i am unsure if running my airconditioning has caused the increased lunging, but it has been happening multiple times over the past few days. i have not contacted ford yet, but i've noticed many reports of the same problem online. i really think that ford should put out a notice to fix this problem that could lead to a crash or even a death. *tt
I have a 2005 ford freestyle limited and the car lunges when going into drive or reverse. the problem seems worse when the ac is on. *tt
Vehicle lunges forwards or speeds up while slowing down (at stop signs, going into garage etc)
2005 ford freestyle is lunging...very dangerous!! i've heard multiple other customers have the same problem and ford has not issued a recall on this problem. *tt
Without warning, when my 2005 ford freestyle is in drive or reverse, it surges and i have to be ready to brake or crash into something. following the surge, the orange wrench light comes on and i have to shut the car off and restart it, and then it will go away. i took it to the dealer and they said they have not had any other complaints like mine. they scanned the car at the dealership, but there were no codes. they advised that unless i can make the surge happen, not to leave the car. *tt
My wife was pulling into a parking space with her foot lightly on the brake pedal. the car lunged forward, causing her to press hard on the brakes. the car did stop, but it almost hit the car in the next parking space. this is the second time this car has displayed this problem. our daughter was driving it a month or so ago, and it did the same thing.
Incident happened while on vacation in another state. car was idling with air conditioner running for approximately 20 minutes, upon shifting gear into reverse and backing out of a parking space, car surged into reverse without foot accelerating the petal. driver braked and car stalled. car restarted in engine failsafe mode. car repeatedly stalled upon successive restarts each time continuing to display engine failsafe mode. after multiple attempts, car restarted in normal mode with the check engine light remaining on. car was sluggish, but continued to drive without stalling. drove car to tropical ford dealership in orlando the next day. service advisor recommended multiple items, including replacing throttle body assembly, pcv valve, pcv control valve, reprogramming the pcm. upon advise of service advisor that it was a dangerous situation that "car could surge and stall while traveling at high speeds on the interstate" on the long drive home, we authorized tropical ford to replace the throttle body assembly ( replaced with fp # 6f9z-9e926-a) and reprogram the pcm.
While attempting to parallel park, my 2005 ford freestyle, accelerated on its own and almost caused me to collide with the car behind me. i have had over 10 incidents where my car has accelerated on its own. today when it happened the car ended up stalling and the check engine light came on. this has become a safety issue and seems to be happening more frequently. i will contact my local ford dealer to see what what steps ford is taking to resolve this issue.
My 2005 freestyle is making loud rattling sound (coming from trans) and the failsafe mode indicator as well as the yellow wrench have been appearing. i have had it in the service dept of dealership many times for surging and power failures, etc, and they have made numerous repairs - (including the ac compressor) and replaced a head gasket (which is leaking badly now?), and it appears this time it may be a throttle body problem? the dealer won't look at it till next week and wants $200 to check it out? people waiting in line (at the service dept) today told me they had the exact same problems (with freestyles). there should be a recall if so many people are complaining.
Vehicle accelerates from a parked position while shifting from p to r or d. the acceleration is greater when wheels are turned. this vehicle is in florida so the a/c is always on. *tt
Our 2005 ford freestyle accelerates on its own at times after you put it in gear. if you are not prepared by having your foot on the brake it will lurch as the rpms increase on its own without touching the accelerator. this is very dangerous especially if someone is standing behind the vehicle.
2005 ford freestyle - my car also has the surging problem. it has been occuring for many years and i had taken it to the local dealer several times, to no avail, they couldn't get it to surge. it tends to happen at low speeds, like while at a drive through restaurant, or just starting from a stop, it will surge and jump without any acceleration. the dealer could never get it to happen, so i quit taking it in for further checking. i can't even let my daughter drive the car, as she is a permit driver and i don't feel it safe for her to drive. i hope you find a solution to this problem, it would be much appreciated. this has been occuring for many years, however below on the incident date, i just listed the last date of occurence, i would have to call ford for the exact dates, but i purchased car in 2006 and it has been happening ever since. *tr
When putting car into reverse or drive, the car will lung forward and as soon as the breaks are applied the car goes dead and the trouble light comes on. this happens a good deal of the time and is very dangerous and has nearly caused several accidents. *tt
I was pulling to a stop light with my foot firmly on the brake and the truck continued to accelerate. i had to press the brake almost completely to the floor to keep from jumping into on coming traffic. i heard about the complaints on the news so i decided to file a complaint as well. this is a very dangerous issue because you never know when it will happen again.
My 2005 ford freestyle limited often lunges (high rpm rev) without pressure on the gas pedal - often at low speeds and when shifting from park to reverse. almost hit house through garage and car in front of me in a parking lot. *tr
Sometimes when putting the car in gear from park the motor surges. also it surges when stopped at a stop sign or when backing out of a parking spot. this has been happening for quite some time and is happening more frequently lately.
