While driving my 2004 ford freestar minivan, at approximately 45mph (miles per hour), the vehicle begins to shudder as if i am driving over rumble strips and when climbing slight or steap inclined hills the shidder worsens. i purchased the vehicle ised from a car lot. i have moticed that all of the ford freestar roums state that there is a recall on the torque converter. i looked up my vinfor recalls and it states that there are no recalls fornmy vehicle. i wonder if the original recall has already been taken care of by the previous owner and the replacement part is faulty as the ms.azose v. ford motor company class action lawsuit states it is. any insight on this matter would be extremely helpful. thanks
My van has a problem with water, that is when it rains the vehicle starts having problems with several components. (ie engine misfire, transmission fails to shift properly, door looks refuse to operate properly, among other weird things) this happens every time it rains. the problem as i have being able to trace it, is that the water that comes off the front windshield and into the plastic that covers the cowl area ( where the wipers are) drips on to the main electric wire harness connection that comes from the inside of the car and connects to the engine bay wire harness. as the wire harness connector gets wet, the vehicle starts acting up. i took the van to my mechanic but he was unable to find a problem, it was dry. i took the vehicle to a ford dealer and, to my surprise, they knew about the problem but told me i had to pay the repair because its covered on a technical service bulletin (tsb 06-14-10) but its not a recall. how can this not be a recall when the van is going along well and as soon as it starts raining, i start having drive ability issues, transmissions starts acting up, engine starts acting up, some times stalls, in general i have a vehicle that appears to be "allergic to water." this issue happens any time it stars raining heavily whether on the highway or city street or my driveway for that matter, if its raining i have to take my wife's car because if not i know will have to be dealing with an uncooperative vehicle. ps. i put a date on the "when did this happen" field but this is an ongoing issue.
While in motion the vehicle transaxle light comes on. the vehicle sticks in first gear while in motion or it slips from the stationary position and when in reverse. the transmission shop stated it was the torque converter.
It was rainy day and my wife was picking my daughter from school. it happened in the school zone. the car was in motion. kids cross road as it was end of school day. safety of passengers and other people was in danger. i have replaced in feb 2016 control unit and hcu spending $2400 +. at that time it had engine light on. it has again came back on 10/24/2017. just to note, in 2010, spend $1600 + on the car because of issues in the vehicle. had abs light on, normal driving. the car has only around 45000 miles. rain water is causing issues. if google search done "ford freestar check engine light after rain", it hits lots of results. ford know the issues. ford even had following service bulletin. technical service bulletin (tsb 06-14-10.) these minivans are safety hazards. what would it take to get something done, recall or get these minivans off roads ? ford is not taking responsibility. please force them to own the responsibility which they are not willingly take. i have documents for the repair that was done. in 2016, when check engine light was on, i was on highway driving 50 miles an hour and it was rainy. car was shaking and seemed like losing power. thanks, anil
Takata recall transmission well not change to overdrive on highway, or in town driving. it still runs but not able to drive due to transmission not being able to change into overdrive. this vechile was in motion on a highway when trying to increase speed it would rive up..i didn't put vechile in the local garage the mechanic said transmission isn't able to change into overdrive. which would result in losing the transmission.
On the way home from picking up my grandchildren, my vehicle was in motion but it started to slow down until it came to a stop. towed to a shop for diagnosis and repairs. they determined that the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. cost was nearly $4k .. i am a senior citizen on a fixed income ... this was a big hit to the pocketbook. started looking on the internet and, from what i am reading, it seems that there was a recall on this but i never received any type of notice on this. do i have any right to appeal to ford for some type of relief after the fact???

Engine surges in reverse and drive violently almost hitting vehicle in front of me at stop light no engine light or vehicle codes found
Transmission won't go into reverse and sometimes not in any gear. engine stops running on highway with no warning. nearly had an accident, had to be towed.
Was driving on my way home on i85 and the car lost speed and rev up on rpm. read codes an it has a torque converter code on it. i could have been injured because my car was not under a recall and i didn't get no noticed. that was the only vehicle i have and now i have no way to get around. it was a very busy interstate i85 when my car lost speed and revved up on rpm while i was in motion with big rigs behind me.
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 ford freestar. while driving various speeds, the vehicle failed to accelerate and then stalled without warning. the vehicle was pushed over to the side of the road by a couple of the contact's friends. the contact restarted the vehicle, but it failed to drive. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer. the manufacturer was not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 170,000.
The vehicle started shifting roughly and within a matter of hours, failed to move when in reverse. i took it to my mechanic and after inspecting, water was found in the transmission. the transmission had to be pulled and rebuilt. approximately six months later, i heard a whinning noise then a clicking when accelerating, coming from the left front side of the vehicle. i took it in to be inspected and once again they found water in the transmission, which was not covered under the warranty.
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 ford freestar. while driving approximately 60 mph, the transmission warning indicator illuminated and the transmission failed. the contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road and waited approximately 30 minutes. when the vehicle was restarted, it operated normally. after fifteen miles, the warning indicator illuminated again and the transmission fluid started to leak out. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the seal in the transmission failed and the fluid leaked out. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 137,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 ford freestar. while driving 25 mph, the vehicle failed to shift gears. the failure occurred without warning. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 100,000.
The third row seating latch has rusted out on the driver side. the vehicle i believe has issues that other 2004 ford freestar vehicles have the same issues and were recalled. i have contacted ford, and they refuse to help. i have 4 children and i fear to take them anywhere in this vehicle. please help. the vehicle jerks and stutters when in drive whether i'm moving or at a stop light as long as i am in any gear. it only has 85,000 miles and i've purchased it in february.
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 ford freestar. while driving 35 mph, the transmission made an abnormal noise and stalled. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 145,000.
2004 ford freestar [xxx]ford is charging me for the repair for the torque converter subframe 3-4 $600~$800 bushing kits ($200 each) they want to charge me. i informed them that only do the factory recall repairs the pulled my van out and told me the cant do the repairs, because they are scared of the ball joints and tie rods might break, then complained about the subframe my have to be cut to install new subframe bolts bushings etc. just to they can continue to take the apart to replace the torque converter. the agreed to charge me 300 labor and told me to pick up the parts needed so i purchased 2 tie-rods. 2 transaxles l-r, 2 lower control arms which included ball joints. they took the subframe apart then told me i need to pay and additional $500 for a used subframe from the salvage yard. instead of ford just preplacing the subframe 4 bushings and bolts kits $67.00 at park ford 400 west avenue tallmadge ohio 44278, they want to charge me i needed to get a new subframe bolts and that the subframe is not made anymore and 3-4 $600~$800 each. then they want to charge me $300 extra labor for cutting the frame/ and welding it back shut to install washer(bolt anchors ) then reseal it, and to uninstall the old parts and install the new parts which they have to remove to perform the factory recall repairs. so this repair is going to cost me 392.20 for parts 300 labor, 800 subframe bushings $1492.2 if purchase elsewhere around $26 each i am a usa disable veteran studying form cisco ccna 200-105 exam and so i can better support my adult special need daughter [xxx] ,i am [xxx] ford had my van friday 24th 2017 its march 1st 2017 and they are searching for ways to charge me more money. while i have to walk to my destinations. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 ford freestar. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to reverse. the contact turned off the engine and tried again. a few moments later, the contact was able to drive the vehicle home. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 150,000.
Gears failed to engage. it was suddenly, no advance warning. we were driving on a 4 lane highway, it just lost power to the transmission gears.
Im having many issues with my vehicle. the worst one is the passive security system that has stranded me in many areas because it refuses to start. i have tried many things including replacing transponder keys and the transceiver but i still am getting the flashing red security light. im scared to drive this thing in the winter due to the possibility of getting stranded in cold temperatures. also this vehicle lets water leak in everywhere causing severe rust and mold issues. one of the floor supports of the drivers seat is close to being rusted through and the other ones are on their way out. the body is severely rusted and im not sure how much longer this thing will be safe to drive.
Vehicle was stationary and when started would not continue to run, finally did run but when put in reverse vehicle would not move, shifted into neutral and engine rpm picked up for no reason, put into drive and vehicle slightly moved and engine died. earlier in day had driven vehicle with no problem.
The vehicle loses power as i am driving it on a city street. it also happened on the highway, so i don't use the highway anymore because of the loss of power.. when the speedometer needle goes over 2 rpm , it stalls even more and jerks.
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 ford freestar. while driving 30 mph, the vehicle lost power. in addition, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to accelerate and increased in rpms. the vehicle was towed to a parking lot and was not diagnosed or repaired. the vehicle was previously repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 12v006000 (power train). the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 71,423.
Driving at highway speeds, the engine remained at 2000 rpm but the mph continuously dropped to below 30 mph until vehicle was stopped on shoulder of highway. the torque converter was under recall and replaced previously. this is the same situation that occurred again. i believe the replacement torque converter was also defective.
When we bought this vehicle we loved it but it steadily went down hill. we got notification of recall about 6 months after purchase and tried several times to get into the dealer. finally got it in march 2016 and now here i am paying on a vehicle that the torque converter went out on. prior to repair the transmission would roughly shift and jerk/lurch into selected gear and at higher rates of speeds would shutter and trans light would come on. now it doesn't respond to the gas pedal right away and then the engine shakes/shudders and the dipstick has a substance on it and when driving today it just coasted like in neutral! i have 4 children and this does not give me faith in ford and it is my 3rd generation star van and my 6th ford vehicle in general.
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 ford freestar. while driving 50 mph, the transmission slipped without warning. in addition, the gears would only shift after the vehicle reached 30 mph or above. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 160,000. the vin was unavailable.
Torque converter output shaft failure the torque converter output shaft may fail, resulting in a sudden loss of motive power with no warning. vehicle was in motion and just stopped working on city street.
Had the recall for the torque converter done and now my vehicle shakes, sputters. won't accelerate, the rpms jump up high, very loud noises coming from underneath vehicle. sometimes it will stall out. can't go past 25-30 mph if it even gets up to that! my vehicle ran perfect before taking it into the ford dealership and ever since i got it back we have had this problem. took it back to ford and they tried to say it was throttle cable so had that fixed and it still is doing the same things as it did after the torque converter was replaced. can't drive the vehicle because when i go to accelerate it doesn't go or get up to the correct mph. the whole vehicle shakes really bad and the noises it makes are very loud and sound like something is going to blow up. i think the torque converter they replaced it with is bad and they need to fix this problem and man up and quit trying to blame it on other things. they messed up and need to fix it.
Problem #1 the passenger side window will not work . it's controll module was replaced it worked one time and stopped working again. problem #2 the drive axle broke in traffic luckily we were stopping and were only going about 5 mph. problem #3 today after a night of heavy rain when the van was unlocked the radio came on before the key was even in the ignition. which brings us to problem #4 the biggest and no doubt most expensive. the van started and was running kind of sluggish but ran fine in reverse but if you shift to drive the van shuts off. you cannot start it in neutral either. i have had 2 independent mechanics look at it today both say it is the torque converter. i looked it up and there is a recall but of course it's the weekend and i can't call to see if it's covered.
Despite the recall of the torque converter and replacement of part, it failed again. the vehicle lost ability to use it after a soccer game. it started, but wouldn't drive before loosing all power. it woudn't go in reverse and had to be towed. this is the 2nd vehicle of the same model to do it that i owned. this could have led to an accident, since i was heading to the interstate with my children in the car. i am concerned the part should be replaced again due to either a faulty part or the way it works with other parts. this is a financial burden on people that own these vehicles.
Transmission get lost while driving ford freestar 2004 van; driving back from church, stop in traffic light the van could not start again, pushed to the nearest gas stations, towed to the dealer, was advised that since they cannot do any diagnosis without turning on the vehicle and knows what is wrong with the van, they need a new computer to reprogram the car. paid $2500 for computer replacement and reprogramming(receipts attached). i was told all the issue will be gone. during the drop-off i told the service specialist that while i am driving the van sometime while increasing the speed, or just in the steady motion i do experience condition like stuck back and forth, and then move; the process repeat sometime. twice the car lost power in the middle of the highway this year, and was helped by other driver to stop it and push it away from the highway, lucky due to constructions the traffic was very slow. when i took the car from the dealer after reprogramming i still have exactly the same problem, and now backseat door can be open manually only; dealer told me it is torque converter issue, when i google i found out that this is known issue (recall number 12v006000) for ford free star 2004-2006 for torque converter replacement, when i call the dealer i was told yes that recall existed, but my vin number was not listed for that recall hence they cannot help me. i cold ford customer service, they gave me the same answer that since my vin number was not listed they cannot help me but i should call the dealership and see what they can do to replace torque converter. at this time i left the van to the dealership but they are doing nothing on it until i make a payment, i can't drive that vehicle very scary condition. what can i do to have my vin number get included in the list for that recall? stuck issue has been there since i bought this van never thought aout it any help
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 ford freestar. while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle failed to accelerate. in addition, the brake pedal was depressed and the vehicle was able to stop, but failed to operate after the brake pedal was released. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the torque converter needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact was informed the vehicle was repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 12v006000 (power train) prior to purchasing the vehicle. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 108,000.
I bought this car in 2014. it stranded me on the side of the road it wouldn't go in reverse or drive. finally after 4 hrs i got it to where i could drive it home. took it to a shop and they said nothing was wrong they had to see it act up. even though the check engine soon light was on and the light for the transaxle was on the shop said they put it on a diagnostic machine and it showed nothing. so i took it home and it when i drive it it jerks and the rpm's go to about 4000 rpm's before it shifts. i have had it 4 times at a shop and the same thing happened they couldn't find anything wrong. now it has really gone bad. it no longer shifts you cant get it past 35 miles per hours because the engine would probably blow. i can't take it on the freeway but every shop i took it to said nothing is wrong. i have a year to go on payments on a vehicle i couldn't even drive if i knew this was going to happen i wouldn't of bought it. the dealer i bought it from didn't even tell me that this van had this problem now i don't know what to do. i don't even know if this van is on the recall list or not or is it too late to get it fixed. i started having this problem 6 months after i bought it in july of 2014.
