[xxx] 2004 ford freestar has a torque converter recall which may cause the vehile to stall at suddenly without warning. as i was driving freeway speeds the van suddenly lost power as i was in the #3 lane on the bay bridge. with that being said, i tried to get to the safest location possible. then had it towed to michael stead ford and the diagnosis states that the torque converter doesn't resolve the issue. with the sudden loss of power and failure of the torque converter it lead to additional parts to be damaged and ford motor company wont cover the damage information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tt

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 ford freestar. the contact stated that the transmission did not function properly. the lever was heavy and became stuck before switching into gear. sometimes, the vehicle hesitated and made an abnormal whining sound. also, the axles made a crunching and grinding sound whenever the vehicle made a turn. the transaxle warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the mechanic did not have the equipment to repair the transmission. the contact was informed that the cbs axles needed to be repaired. the manufacturer and dealer were not made aware of the failures. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 270,000. ..*bf consumer took the vehicle to the transmission shop and was told the sudden power could be torque converter but needs to checked. common failed transmission error.*jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 ford freestar. while attempting to accelerate from a traffic light, the vehicle failed to move forward. when the vehicle was turned off and restarted, the contact was able to drive off of the roadway and into a parking lot. the contact stated that the vehicle would not operate in the forward gear; however, the reverse gear worked as intended. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 12v066000 (power train). the dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. the failure mileage was unknown.

Was driving and my tach meter was going all over 3 4 lost all power while driving down the rd. also trac control is always off goes on and off

Driving i-95 at 70 mph . van s tach raced to 3k engine seem to loose power. had van checked out said it was torque converter. this is a known reoccurring problem told to me by the car tech. how can a problem so big and dangerous be fixed such as faulty converters.what can one do.

Torque converter output shaft ,,,, no way for motor to engage the transmission ,, van engine runs but no power to transmission to move the drive train of van ... driving on the highway ,, take exit stop for red light , light turns green press gas pedal engine revs up but no power to transmission to move forward ... setting in middle of traffic stranded ,,, cars trucks zooming by ,,, terrible predicament...

L was driving on the highway all of a sudden my car slowed down it would not go forward so l coaxed it into a parking lot, l waited about 10 minutes and put it in reverse and it would not go in reverse either so l got out and checked everything under the hood everything l could check so l called a tow truck service and had it towed to my home, l called a mechanic he looked at it and said it was the torque converter he also said that ford had a recall on 2004 ford freestar vehicle for there torque converters so please tell me what to do thank you.
