The 2014 ford focus s comes standard with traction control which uses both the abs module and the pcm torque control to control the vehicles motion relative to the intended course. this is done through two ways: 1) the abs module continuously monitors and compares the rotational speed of the drive wheels in relation to the non-driven wheels. at the same time, the abs module calculates how much engine torque reduction is required to eliminate the wheel slip. in snowy (+2-3?), icy or slippery surfaces where both front tires are equally in the same condition, the abs module modulates brake pressure to both brake caliper (s) to stop any wheel spin. 2) at the same time, the abs module sends a message to the pcm to reduce the engine torque to the requested level. with both brakes being applied and engine torque reduced to a near ?idle? state with the accelerator at ?full throttle?, the car immediately becomes stuck. because the ford focus s does not have the ability to disable the traction control, my wife and kids have continuously been stranded in a car that will apply the brakes and reduce the engine ...

I bought this car for my daughter at loving lincoln mercury in lufkin texas. while test driving the car i noticed 1) that the brakes were making a light grinding noise while coming to a stop. 2) the low tire pressure indicator light was on. the salesman assured me they would take care of the problem before i bought it. when we picked it up they said they looked at all the brakes and they were ok. also, the tire pressure light was no longer on, so i went ahead and bought the car. now, just a few days after taking possession of the car the low tire pressure light is on again. the tires were made in china. the brand name of the tires is "goodride". i have read online that the chinese valve stems were recalled during certain years. i will have the dealer alerted and get a tire store to check the tires and valve stems. *tr

When making a left turn from a main road onto a side street i encounter massive grinding noises coming from what sounded like my left front tire area. i thought maybe it was my imagination. from then on there is intermittent noises coming from that area (sounds like plastic rubbing on something) i took it to the dealership on sat, 7/14 they did a visual safety exam and found nothing wrong but they did rotate my tires just in case. i am also experiencing a grinding noise when pressing on the gas from about 0-20 mph (going straight) (sounds separate from the grinding issues under the tire, but i am unsure if this is related. i am scheduled to take the car back to the dealership on 7/19 to see if they can find a problem. very frustrating as this car is just over 6 months old! *tr

The vehicle was parked. i started it up and backed out of the parking space. i shifted into drive and began moving forward. after going approximately 20 feet the "i" sign illuminated on the instrument panel and the message "steering malfunction, needs service" came on, along with the alarm jingle. i tried to steer the car out of the middle of the drive lane and managed to get it over to the side, but the steering was practically frozen. i turned off the ignition and looked for any obvious signs of trouble, but could find none. after reading through the owner's manual and checking the engine compartment, i restarted the car (about 20 minutes after i shut it off) and no warning sign came on. i test drove it in the parking lot for a minute to see if the steering would function properly and then drove home and experienced no further problems. i took it to the ford autoway dealership for inspection and they diagnosed the problem as stemming from an abs "corrupted" program. they told me the epas gets it power through the abs. they rebooted the abs program and i've had no further problems. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2000 ford focus. the contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph with the cruise control activated, a growling noise was heard coming from the rear end of the vehicle. the contact continued to drive and then began to hear a clunking sound as the vehicle began to shake. the contact was able to stop the vehicle on the shoulder of the road and noticed smoke coming from the rear driver's side brake drum. a few moments later, the drum caught on fire due to the grease igniting. the contact used water and was able to extinguish the flames. the vehicle was then towed to contact's home. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnostic test. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 142,000.

2007 Ford Focus

There are two recurring problems that really concern me: 1) transmission/powertain light has flickered on-and-off and then goes off completely. initially i assumed it was a fuse or electrical problem. there have been several episodes, the scariest to date on 2-20-12 the car seemed to "lose gears," shuttered a little, and suddenly felt it was going to stall out on a short incline. my 15 year old daughter (with learner's permit) was at the wheel. it was frightening as the car felt it would roll backward with traffic stacked up behind her. 2) brakes: on two ocassions since i have owned the car (3.5 months) the brakes, when applied (normal fashion) completely went to the floor without functioning: there was nothing there. a couple of minutes later, and only after pumping the brakes a few times, did the "brake function return." my mother had warned me about this - she also provided me with a file folder of all repairs she had made on the car. twice; she had the master brake cylinder replaced! she complained to the ford dealer in her hometown, who "brushed it off" and ...
