Recently reported STRUCTURE problems on 2014 Ford Focus

The rear passenger side door lock has malfunctioned. causing door not being able to relock or close. i have 38292 miles on my car that i'm still paying on. i cannot drive my car unsafely with my two grandchildren (who live with me). the door could open at anytime.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving, the front end of the vehicle shook and vibrated before the vehicle suddenly stalled. the contact discovered that the engine mounts failed and caused the engine to fall from the engine compartment. the vehicle was towed to yreka motors ford (1545 s. main st, yreka, ca), but the cause of the failure was not determined. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 36,000.

Complaints: power train (currently-5th clutch asy having serviced), body: locks and hatch donot work most of the time..passenger door knob just fell off in passenger hand, excessive fuel consumption, car jerks and stalls, false digital readings on dash. some lights stay on continuously. had to have to tire pressure monitoring sensor replaced 2 yrs of having the vehicle.all supporting documents available upon request. all documents have vin and my name on them, so cant upload them. multiple dates of service, but am listing the last dos. my vehicle has been at the ford dealership for 3 wks so far. awaiting list for a loaner car is 3 wks out. i am without transportation still. currant dos is an approximate date, as it is still with the ford mechanic. i bought this vehicle bc i inherited raising 2 grandchildren, and needed a economical and reliable vehicle to transport them to and from dr appts, school, preschool ect, but this vehicle is anything but reliable. it's been an expensive nightmare. my extended warrant already paid for this fix last time, and now i've been told that my policy maximum may have been reached, thus making me responsible for all balances due from this repair. i have been unable to work bc of unreliable transportation, and do not have the monies to pay for this repair. this design flaw in the dual clutch transmission, there is no permanent fix. the problem recurs continuously. if my warrany policy doesnt pay for these and future repairs, nd ford isn't paying them, i will either have to have the bank repossess the vehicle, possibly sued by ford for non payment. i have been seriously just filing bankruptcy. is there anything that can be done to help me out of this mess? ford will not take this vehicle back bc it has over 60,000 miles etc. unable to select boxes, due to frozen boxes.

First, drivers side door would not latch shut. found while stationary. this was repaired. 8 weeks later, the passenger side door would not latch. this was discovered while driving in a parking lot when the panel light came on and said door was open. when turning to park to check, the door swung wide open. it would not latch shut.

The rear passenger side door latch disengaged without warning when i was turning out of a parking lot, swinging the door open while moving. the latch will not engage anymore, and the door is stuck open. there is a recall for the latch, but my vin number is not under the recall.

2014 ford focus se. driving on highway. heard a loud sound. car began to lose power and the oil light began to flash. within seconds smoke and flames came from engine. front end was engulfed in flames within minutes. car had been to three shops prior and nothing was ever said about there being a problem. even was taken to ford dealership.

April 25 2019 to this day july 10th 2019 is when everything started breaking down out of nowhere, i'm going to work at 6am i notice my car starting up odd and so on my way to work i was getting on the high way as i was accelerating something happened in my car that made a loud noise and my car bucked as if it was having trouble trying to rev so i turned my emergency lights and managed to get to work by driving slowly and man was it a scare. i ended up leaving my car overnight at work and got it towed to a local mechanic saying my radiator was busted ($260 out my pocket), looked online to see about any recalls and saw i had a couple to be fixed and that's when i took it in to a local dealer ford dealership and they supposedly fixed my car but when i got it back it was just as bad and i even started getting messages on my dashboard about my lid compartment being open making me get off on red lights to get out and close the trunk. then my second time being stranded on my way to work, same thing starting off my car felt odd but this time i made it to work but as soon as i pulled into the parking lot my car had felt like it died and stalled right as i was parking and when i got off and locked my car it started making weird mechanical noises, that's when i had to get it towed the next day again but this time the mechanic told me it was my transmission module, so i go online again and see there is an extended warranty for my exact problem. so i take it in to the dealer so they can fix it but they turn out telling me i have a hole in my transmission and that they can't fix the problem even though it's due to the computer software malfunctioning causing it to break now the dealership is asking 2,000-5,000 to replace. i'm sick and tired to be honest i'm about to lose my job for going in late, i've paid a month already without even using the car i need help.

My ford focus drivers side door latch bailed. the door latch was recalled and i had all the doors fixed from the recall. the door would not close and latch properly. i had to hold the door shut to get back home. i went to the ford dealer later that day and the customer service manager said he didn't have the part but he was trying to get permission to separate the 4 pack of latches as part of the recall. if my car was fixed as part of the recall, why did the latch fail? they were able to separate the four pack of latches and fix my car, but i'm concerned this could happen to others, especially since there is a recall on some part of the latches.

Takata recall complaint. my son and i purchased a 2014 ford focus together. the rear door was a constant problem in latching properly and this is complaint #1. complaint #2 is the inability to drive the car any more. the car motor seized (my son said the the engine blew up) while driving on the freeway in calif. and had to be towed away. my ex wife spent $4,500 to have the transmission repaired prior to this incident, by a local repair shop in california only to have the car back in the same undriveable condition. apparently the new transmission now had electrical defects. the local ford dealer told my son to take the car back to the repair shop that performed the work on the car. the concept of the 14mo2 recall or failed service action never arose. we still have a balance on the loan to ford credit and an undriveable 2014 car. i find it hard to believe that after patronizing ford by purchasing 2 explorers prior to this focus, that such mechanical issues would exist.

Rear doors - latches were bad. passenger side opened while turning. used bungee cords to keep it shut until latches could be replaced. transmission - chattered upon driving, like when 1st learning to drive stick shift. sometimes it would not shift until reaching high rpms. occasionally would momentarily seem to pop into neutral. that happened january 25, 2019. was pulling out of a restaurant after dark, turning left on a 4 lane divided highway. it paused half way across the near lane, a car was coming directly toward me and i turned too sharply and ran over the median. ended up cracking the oil pan, messing up the steering and cracking the engine. it was a total loss. i was livid when i found out that the transmission was well known to be defective and don chalmers ford knowingly sold it to me.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. on several occasions, while driving, the trunk unlocked independently. the vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer and dealer were not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 43,000. *tt*jb

Rear passenger door did not latch at all. this occured after being stationary after placing groceries in the back seat. this was the first and only occurrence since owning the vehicle. i has to bungee cord the door to the other door to be be able to get home safely.

This vehicle has had door issues where the door would open unexpectantly, the transmission has caused hydroplaining and has also caused the car to stall on the freeway. even though they fixed the transmission the problem has returned and insist on being a continual issue. now there is an additional recall for december and that is cpv. when i contacted ford in order to have a refund or be able to return the car and switch it out for something else... i was told no there wasn't an option to do so. is this true that i have to just continue going along with the car and continue to have these types of issues through the lifeblood of this vehicle?

Back passenger door does not latch closed. we discovered this 8/19 because we were driving, and when we stopped the back door opened and then made the sound like it was going to close, but it never did. tried multiple times to close the door but it never latched shut. tried to turn the latch itself in the door, that wasn't the problem. 1.5 million cars made by ford, including 2013-15 ford focuses, were recalled in 2016 for the exact same issue. we bought this car used about 6 months ago and now the back door no longer latches. barely have 30,000 miles on the car. two different dealerships stated that our vin number is not considered to have this recall and refused to replace the door/latch unless we pay. even though we obviously have the exact problem as described in their public media statement back in sept. 2016. so we spent $680 to repair something that the ford dealership should have fixed before even selling us the car. they, apparently, would prefer us driving in a car that's creating a hazard to ourselves and other drivers than actually fix their mistakes and keep people safe.

Ford (multiple models and years) door latch recall. i had already submitted a request to add our vehicle to the recall list. ford started a recall regarding the latch on their doors malfunctioning, causing them to just swing open and not stay closed. our 2014 ford focus had this problem despite us trying to fix it and close the passenger side back door multiple times. ford refused to fix the problem without charging us because our vin number was not included in the recall, but we still had the exact same problem.

Passenger door will not latch. door has to be duct taped to keep closed. dealership released an obviously unsafe vehicle to the owner saying it had been fixed.

Ford replaced the door latches under recall 9 months ago and the driver door latch has broken, again. ford states that warranty for recall parts is 12 months/12,000 miles. i have driven 14,000 since the repair. this is still an active recall and yet the dealer is charging approximately $300.00 for the repair. this is so wrong, it's still a safety issue as now my driver door won't stay closed.

Hello, today i got into an accident. i hydroplaned and went into a guide rail on the interstate going about 50mph. my friend and i are having major problems with our backs and necks and my airbags didn't deploy. this isn't the first time i've gotten into accident and they didn't deploy. the first time wasn't life threatening but this one was. i don't have any recollection of the accident and i am not able to remember much of yesterday either. i feel like there was something wrong with my vehicle before my accident due to my passenger air bag light kept flickering on and off before the accident and now this happening. please contact me back on my course of action on what i should take. thanks, sincerely [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

I was driving and the door flew open

My 2014 ford focus has had a myriad of problems from day one. first the trunk will pop open if driving more than 40 mph. my trunk popped open and i lost a 3,000 saxophone. the michigan state police has proof of my claim. now trunk will not release. constant transmission problems even with repairs, the car will lag, sputter and rolls backwards. the car will roll backwards when you stop for a red light or sputter when entering a roundabout.the gas guard will say you have 50 gallons but change to 11 after driving 2 miles. bluetooth and horn does not work.

The horn quit sounding upon activation by the horn relay switch on the steering wheel. it does not sound when pressing the remote twice to confirm it's locked up. it does not sound when the alarm is activated. the fuse is ok. the horn relay does not click when horn relay switch on steering wheel is depressed. the wires are all intact and connected. i took it to a ford dealer. they said it would cost $200-300 and need the car for 2 days. according to all the complaints and concerns about this issue on various websites, thousands of owners of ford focus have the same issue with the same response from the dealership.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving approximately 55 mph, the rear driver's side door swung open without warning. the driver closed the door, but the rear driver side passenger was unable to open the door. the vehicle was taken to a dealer who repaired the door. the contact stated that the door did not open after the repair. the vehicle was taken to another dealer who advised that there was a recall. the dealer stated that the manufacturer did not authorize the recall repair, citing that the first dealer destroyed the door. the vin was not provided. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was approximately 50.

My door flew open. no one was hurt but we definitely could have been killed even. i googled it and found out others people's cars were breaking to, and there was a recall. i called the dealership and they said that they were out of parts to repair it. so i bought the whole door off of ebay and my husband changed the whole door. then today, a postcard come son the mail form ford saying that they will fix our car. way too late now, it broke months ago.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v643000 (latches/locks/linkages); however, the part for the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure. parts distribution disconnect.

Going less than 10 mph the car was making a wide turn on my street in front of my house when focus accelerated and went through a wire fence, taking down a metal stake, over limestone boulders before hitting a tree, stumps, and bushes on my property. air bags did not employ. windshield totally shattered with holes from tree branches. body of car severely damaged if not totaled. insurance adjuster will determine on wednesday 9/28/2016

Nhtsa recall number: 16v643 recall date: september 2, 2016 manufacturer recall number: 16s30 a door latch with a fractured pawl spring tab typically results in a "door will not close" condition.

The recall issued in september of 2016 has not been fixed. i have tried to get my car in 5-6 times, the last being in july when the man at ford told me "our parts are booked out through the first of the year, but we can put you on a waiting list". ford has not made enough parts making them readily accessible to their dealers so the consumers can drive a safe, recall free car. i am frustrated it has taken so long.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact stated that the recall notice for nhtsa campaign number: 16v643000(structure) was received in september of 2016. after contacting the dealer and the manufacturer on multiple occasions, the contact was informed that the parts needed for the recall remedy were still not available and no estimated time for receiving the parts could be provided. the contact had not experienced a failure. vin tool confirms parts not available.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while attempting to exit the vehicle, the front driver side door would not unlock from the inside. the contact also indicated that the front passenger side door experienced the same failure. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the failure could not be duplicated. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 7,000.

The front driver side door latch will not stay latched. the door came open while driving and will not return to the latched position.

The drivers side rear door will not close. i opened the door yesterday and when i attempted to close the door it will not latch. the ford dealership said this will cost approx. $450 to fix.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving various speeds and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle hesitated to respond and shuttered without warning. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the internal clutch failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. while driving at an unknown speed, the rear hatch open warning indicator illuminated. in addition, the doors began to lock and unlock independently. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v643000 (latches/locks/linkages); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the failure mileage was 24,172. vin tool confirms parts not available.

I brought the vehicle in january. in march, the trunk popped open while i was driving. it has continued to do so since. i have taken the vehicle to the dealer at 5 times. they have done 3 repairs but the issue continues. it seems to happen at speeds higher than 35 mph when driving for more than 35 minutes. i just picked the vehicle up from the dealer on 1/17/17. on 1/18/17, the dashboard indicted the front passenger door was open while i was driving. all of these occurrences while i was driving on a highway or backroads with little to no stopping. *tr

The trunk will pop open while driving (in motion). it happened couple times on many different situations and even in the highway. last time i was at an avenue and it randomly opened and i had to urgently park. i have recorded a video that shows the event. i have also sent my car to ford over 4 times to repair my transmission as my car was shuddering and shaking on take offs

We bought our 2014 ford focus in march 2015.never again! among other small problems that cost a fortune to repair we now were driving when our rear passenger door flew opened. we took it right then to the dealer dick's mackenzie ford in hillsboro, oregon and the price to fix the door latch is $560.we are looking at other options for the repair and then sell the car as soon as possible.. we are appauled at the price and because we have 40,000 milesit is out of warranty.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while the vehicle was parked and/or being driven in the rain, water would flood the cabin. the dealer replaced the door insulation; however, the issue recurred continuously. the manufacturer was notified. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 25,000. updated 01/10/2017*ct consumer stated he was told weather stripping had failed and was repaired. updated 7/9/18*jb *tr

While commuting to work on the highway and coming to a stop due to traffic the vehicle was hit from behind at appx 50mph. my wife saw the imminent impact a split second before it happened & tried to apply the brakes as hard as possible so as not to hit the car in front of her (appx 20-25 feet away). nonetheless, the impact was too great. it totally destroyed the rear of our car and blew out the back glass. it also pushed our car into the car in front which damaged the right front, bent the hood in the front middle section, made the undercarriage pop out, and broke the radiator. there may have been additional front end damage but the hood was not opened at the time. what's worse, in all of this, the vehicle's air bags never deployed! so, my wife hit her head on the steering wheel twice. moreover, the seat back broke which created a potentially paralyzing and/ or deadly condition due to her body's momentum as opposed to the car's momentum (i.e., she had no back stability)! lastly, her knees were jammed into some portion of the dash/ steering column. my wife has sustained some injuries and we are currently getting her treated.

The rubber gasket that lines the doors expands and makes opening or closing the door difficult.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact stated that while driving, the trunk opened independently without warning. the contact mentioned that the failure recurred and was taken to the dealer up to ten times before the latch, spring, and wiring was replaced but the failure continued. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 34,500.

Our car ford focus 2014 purchased in tracy ford, ca generates a horrible smell, localized in the back seat region. we've cleaned and scrubbed this area with soap twice, but the smell does not go away. the smell has been there for many months now, starting a few months after we bought the car brand new. it is an awful strong chemical smell. we are concerned because our two small children sit back there in that section of the car. also, nobody wants to ride in this car because of the smell. the local ford repair shop confirms the smell but cannot tell what it is. one dealer (tracy ford) thinks it is chemical from plastic, the other dealer that made us pay 150$ for not fixing anything much, doesnt know what caused it and will not perform any work other than the basic check because they said it would cost thousands of dollars to take apart more parts than the basic look around check. we are worried about what this smell is, as in is it dangerous or not. we asked ford 800 number to investigate, but they said the dealer has to confirm that is a defect for them to cover the cost. while the dealer would not perform any further investigation, unless someone will pay the thousands of dollars. so we are stuck with a car that is too stinky to drive, paid 150$ only to be told that if we want them to investigate more, we have to pay thousands of dollars. the brand new car is both too stinky to drive, and too stinky to sell. it is brand new yet we could not drive it. the dealer and ford are both washing their hands and dont want to cover the cost. we want the manufacturer and dealer to investigate free of charge and to fix the problem for us free of charge.

I was driving on the freeway at 70mph in fifth gear and something in the engine blew. i started blowing oil and smoke out the rear, "service engine soon" came on, and the oil light came on. i lost all power and power steering, so i made my way to the shoulder. i pulled the hood latch and stepped out of the vehicle. upon exiting the vehicle i witnessed flames shooting out from underneath the hood in the engine bay. i backed up and watched the front of the car fully engulf into flames.

Found 2 inches standing water in passenger back seat ... has been into dealer over 8 times for over 40 total days and the carpet remains wet. now causing mold. they send it out to a special water remediation vendor and insist that the issue is corrected but when you put your hand under the carpet, even after it has not rained for a couple weeks and your hand will come out dripping water. with how many times the carpet has been pulled out and replaced it is now all stretched out and panels where they have gone into the doors and dash fall off transmission issues with shuddering and losing power , dealership repaired but issue is starting again. loses power going up very slight hills, will lug down on the flat like it has been dropped into a lower gear. no power when trying to accelerate navigation has gone out and requires yet another trip into the service center car currently has less then 8000 miles on odometer.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 10 mph, a flat bed truck crashed into the rear of the contact's vehicle. the air bags did not deploy. as a result, the contact stated there was an abnormal noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. the contact discovered that the front bumper detached from the vehicle. a police report was filed and there were no injuries reported. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 51.

My ford focus shutters, grinds every time i go from one gear to another gear. the car starts to shutter badly as i put it in reverse, and jumps when i gave it gas. i hit another car. i have been back to the food dealer 2x with the complaints that the car, shutters, grinds like it wont go into gear. they keep giving me the run around. *tr

my car has generated a horrible smell in the interior. it started out as a faint smell. then after a couple weeks it has gotten significantly stronger. took the car to the dealer and they took out the entire interior and cleaned everything. the smell was then gone. it started to smell again about 2 months later. the same exact smell. it is 20f outside currently now and the smell is not noticeable until the car gets warm or it sits in a heated garage. the smell is hard to describe. its a foul smell, on the same level as a dead animal smell, but it smells nothing like that. the dealer and i have confirmed that it is not the smell that is coming from the ac when water condensation collects in there. this is an entirely different smell than that. it almost smells like some sort of chemical. im still working with the dealer and ford to sort out this deal. while they have been accommodating, it is frustrating to say the least. they have talked about replacing the entire interior, but the dealer and i do not believe that will work. *tr

I have owned this car for 2 years. i purchased it on 5/3/2014 and took it home to notice 2 days later that the trim of the body frame was coming undone and also the front bumper was detaching (it was parked in my garage). i took it back and got the parts fixed. then a month later i returned it back to the shop for stalling, hesitation, rpm's going up to 5, vibration of car and got the pcm/tcm reprogrammed. this was all going on while driving down any road and going on the gas from a light/stop sign. i've had the clutch replaced (took 3 months of car in shop to do that). had the pcm/tcm reprogramed about 8-9 times. my car has been in the shop at least 11 times in the last 2 years. i just picked it up last night for another reprogram of the trans and its still hesitating, has a rattling noise when going on the gas and a very serious shake to the whole car. but i get told the car is fixed or nothing is wrong. open your eyes because there is definitely something wrong with these cars......... i have documents and pictures to prove it.

I bought this car new on dec 31, 2013. here's my list of problems... 1) trunk was way off alignment, dealership fixed best they could... 2) wipers are hitting the side of frame when they wipe. it makes a very loud noise when wipers are on and is very annoying. dealership is installing new wiper motors as i write this... 3) molding on both rear doors at top of window keep falling down, also being repaired now. 4) car drops rims when at a stop and almost kills the engine..... 5) car hesitates when accelerator is pressed, then jerks forward. i drive this car very conservatively , like an old man, i take great care of all my cars. i am very disappointed in this purchase! i've owned fords for 25 years and the quality is greatly going down. looks like i'll have to file another lemon law suite against ford....i did win my first suite in 2010 on a new ford ranger! *tr

I have a 5 door hb. on the day of this incident, i had driven the car several times with no problems (and no prior problems) and the car was fully warmed, inside and out. the weather was dry and sunny, the temperature had climbed from 17f the previous night to 36f by 11am when this incident repeatedly occurred. the front passenger door opened normally from the outside when i pulled the handle, but when i attempted to close the door, it wouldn't latch (it bounced back from the door jammed and remained ajar) and the instrument panel showed an 'open door' warning. the latching mechanism in the door appeared to be in the proper position, but could easily be moved with my finger (resistance was felt in this mechanism on all other doors.) after several attempts, the door finally appeared to latch and the instrument panel did not show an 'open door' warning. when backing out of my parking spot, and again after driving approximately 100 feet at 10mph, the front passenger door opened (fortunately, the passenger seat was unoccupied.) after several attempts each time, i was able to again close the door. while on the highway going to the dealership for inspection/repair, the door opened 3 separate times at highway speeds (approximately 55mph.) in about 6 miles distance. while driving, i had to drive the remaining distance leaning over the passenger seat and holding the interior passenger door handle to prevent the door from opening again before i arrived at the dealership. the dealership inspected and lubricated the locks and latches, but found nothing wrong with the door. the dealership service advisor told me that it was "...normal for the doors to come open or not latch on cold days.", and other customers had experienced the same problem in the last few days. it just occurred again at 4,032 miles on the same day. *tr

All since purchase in jan 2014. within a few months of new purchase: electrical issues and errors unknown to ford, need for transmission swap, 2 or 3 recalls re transmission and door replacement, horn stopped working (while in 65mph traffic i95 and almost in an accident). constantly in shop and continual issues with stalling (once, stopped in 65mph traffic on major interstate i95 in left lane), synch and phone system has never worked correctly. 3 weeks ago, after stopped at a traffic light in rush hour traffic in philadelphia, depressed gas pedal and went in total reverse! did this twice before completely turning car off and had to be towed.
