Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2014 Ford Focus

My vehicle was repaired multiple times by ford when under warranty for their transmission problems taking a manual transmission and running it like an automatic kind. i had to have a new clutch put in as mine was severely destroyed. once all the repairs were finally accomplished and the power control module, transmission control module (tcm was replaced) and reprogrammed many times the car finally was driving normally as it should as i bought this car brand new with only 13 miles on it. now my car is exhibiting clutch chatter if i start out a bit slowly such as from say a school bus stop. if i start out with a bit of speed no chatter at all. i am not sure if this is happening to other ford focus (many types of se etc.) owners and if this transmission problem with the power control module (pcm), transmission control module (tcm), clutch, transmission and any other powertrain parts affected by these many parts should be under an extended recall/repair status for the life of the car since ford created the problem initially with the manual transmission used like a normal automatic transmission? perhaps if more ford focus owners complain then we will as owners have a less troubled mind regarding what happens to say at 50,000 miles etc. without an extended warranty. i have noticed the above clutch chatter over the past several months it is hard to put an exact date but the last day i drove my car (11/13/2018) is the last date i noticed the potential clutch problem. i will report my concerns to the dealer and inform them that i reported this same problem to your website (www.nhtsa.gov). i am hoping to not have any repair invoices for this problem ever until i sell the car or turn it in for a new one. please advise thank you. *tr

I was driving on the 60 fwy when my 2014 ford focus transmission shifted into low gear causing me to pull over and call for assistance.

Harsh jerking and shuddering when accelerating. ford has a recall on the transmission for this problem, yet they refused to fix mine because its 65000 miles. was never told about this when i got the car (~35000) - would have fixed sooner if i was. got clutch replaced months ago, fixed this for a little, now the problem is back.

Vehicle "shudders" excessively upon acceleration after a stop. stalled acceleration that almost lead to crash.taken to ford dealership and told that the dual clutch on the transmission needs to be replaced at 63,000 miles

A letter addressed to president trump expressing concerns regarding the defective transmission in her 2014 ford focus. *as *js

Constant shuddering when accelerating . the whole car shakes and feels like the engine is about to fall out. ford double clutch transmission on 2014 ford focus needs to be recalled.

Transmission gave out while driving on the highway. had towed to dealership, who repaired with the same parts. the vehicle repair was completed and broke down with the same issue after driving 50 ft. until today, the transmission is unpredictable and unsafe, and now the power steering assist went out, luckily i just got off the highway and back to work when this occurred. i've seem numerous reports on both of these issues, and ford wants $2500 to repair the steering, and says they cannot check the transmission until then. they also indicated that they aren't sure if the transmission would be repaired again, and it would depend on how 'bad' it is. this is a completely unsafe vehicle, which i am still paying for, and is unusable at this time, unless i decide to drive it in unsafe conditions. ford is not concerned about their customers or safety.

Driving and vehicle completely shutdown after a loud crunching noise coming from the front of car. a bunch of codes flashed across the dash . vehicle wouldn't start. had to tow it home. the transmission light stays on now when i turn key on.

When trying to accelerate, the vehicle will make a sort of stuttering, or have a delay in acceleration. sometimes i notice the rpms increasing without reason, almost as if it skips shifting maybe or has a delayed shift? i have not tried in "sport" mode to see if manually shifting solves the problem. i also have not been able to identify any other common things, such as a certain fuel level, internal or external temperature, or rate of intended acceleration, though i would not rule out anything. i have noticed this happening both in town driving and highway driving, the delay in acceleration or stuttering. there is also a distinct shudder that happens occasionally. i am not sure if it is an issue with fuel (flooding maybe? or a delay in fuel injection?) or an issue with the power train (any issue in the transmission with shifting?) or maybe an issue in speed control (a missed connection between the accelerator pedal or throttle control cables and the next step in the chain?). i just know that sometimes i need to accelerate to get in a spot in a line of traffic and when the car doesn't 'go' when i need it to and it shudders or has a stutter or delay, it causes the car i was getting in front of to have to brake and if they don't, then my children in the back seat are put at risk. this has happened multiple times, not just the date indicated.

My 2014 ford focus has the worst shudder and shake when starting out from a stop the the whole vehicle shakes and shudders like the wheels are going to come off. once you get up to speed it normalizes but as accelerating it is just a paint shaker of a car. i have had my car in 7 times for the transmission clutch problems. it has been replaced 3 times. twice before the initial warranty was up and then again last year when they extended the one time warranty repair. the clutch issue is still persisting and they made me pay for a throw out bearing last time it was replaced even though that part was directly related to the clutch problem the car has had since purchase. the 4 other times i brought the car in i was just told that it is normal for the car to shake a little. i do t believe that at all and i am tired of this piece a crap car with its transmission issues and ford doing nothing more to help the consumers out with the problem when they fully know it is their problem with the car. when i go to my ford app and look up the service records it is listed as unknown with a 0 dollar amount when the transmission issues were 'fixed'.

I bought the car in march of 2018 with 34,600 miles. it was shifting oddly when i purchased the car, called the dealership value motors in new orleans, lawhere it was purchased. he said that it was normal due to the transmission type. a few weeks later i pulled the carfax report and saw that my transmission was serviced for the transmission control module.. while accelerating from a complete stop, the vehicle jerk sand stutters all the time. theres no warning indicator illuminated.now shutters shifting from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. rpms get really high before the car actually takes off. i brought the car to a ford dealership (robinson brothers baton rouge) today 10/01/2018 was told i need a new clutch. my car has 46,417 miles and i was told it is not covered under any warranty because it was manufacured september 15, 2013 . its 1692.44 before taxes. i called fords customer service and they said they couldnt do anything to help. this car is very scary to drive. to make matters worse, i have trouble buckling the rear driverside seatbelt at times &i have 3 small children and i feel like the car is unsafe for them and me.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: (number not assigned yet) regarding the power train. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. bill collins ford lincoln of louisville (4220 bardstown rd, louisville, ky 40218, (502) 459-9550) was contacted and confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall remedy. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure. vin tool confirms parts not available.

Not sure why but car studurds going in to 1st gear and 2nd. fuel for this vehicle is consumed very fast.

The recall that hasn't been satisfied as of yet regarding the cpv has caused major issues with my car yet i can't get it fixed as the dealer replied saying it wasn't available yet when the recall was october 2019. i also believe i've had a faulty transmission and yet the dealer has also said they couldn't do anything about it.

Continuous problems with tcm module and replacement of clutch disk assembly on 2014 ford focus. when these components go bad, the vehicle will have a shuttering sensation as if the vehicle does not want to go. the issue was so bad that it left my daughter stranded. we purchased the vehicle used in august 2015. since purchased the vehicle has been back to the same dealership we purchased from 5 times for the problems mentioned earlier. in october of 2018 the clutch assembly was replaced again. i aske the dealership what could be done about this reoccurring problem...answer buy an extended warranty. being dissatisfied with this response i contacted ford customer service about this problem and basically got the door slammed in my face. i do not understand why 2012 and 2013 have an extended warranty of 100,000 miles on the clutch but the 2014 model year does not. i have the exact same problem as the 2012 and 2013.

My 2014 ford focus is exhibiting a transmission problem such that it does not accelerate when the throttle is pressed. it has excessive 'shudder' from the clutch engagement and will lurch or fail to accelerate when moving from a stop sign, or when making low-speed movements. this represents a safety concern as it may fail to accelerate when merging, entering traffic or making evasive maneuvers. the problem is ongoing, however, the most serious instance of this problem occurred on september 29th 2018, where my vehicle dramatically shuddered and failed to accelerate while returning home from a short trip. the vehicle was inspected on nov 3rd by a ford dealer who indicated the clutch and related parts would need to be replaced, they also notified us that this was replaced once before when the vehicle had about 24,000 miles. at present, the vehicle has a bit over 79,000 miles. upon contacting ford to determine whether my vehicle was eligible for the clutch service recall '14m01', they indicated that i would need to contact nhtsa in order to have my vehicle flagged as eligible.

I purchased the vehicle used in august 2017 with 42k miles on it. the vehicle after driving it for a few weeks noticed a shudder in low speeds. i contacted a friend who was an automotive technician he made me aware of the issue with this type vehicle and how it would be covered under a recall. i went forward and had the clutch and training module replaced under the warranty. twelve months later i start experiencing the same issues with the car. i brought it again the ford dealership replaced the training module but did not replace the clutch because it was no longer covered under warranty. the service department told me that i would have to deal with ford directly if i wanted this part to be covered by ford. i was also made aware that the same parts were replaced in 2015 by the previous owner. i contacted ford and spoke to a customer service representative and a supervisor.. i was told there was nothing they could do but they would submit my issues to a third party arbitrator. that was almost two months ago. i had heard of a class action lawsuit was going on with ford regarding this issue.. although i was past the filing deadline to be part of the initial lawsuit the website said they would still address my concerns. i was also made aware that i needed to contact ford directly before i started the arbitration process. i contacted them a representative called me.. reviewed my case and told me he could only offer me $400 for my inconvenience. the vehicle was not covered under my state's lemon law. when i mentioned my clutch needed to be replaced and the $400 would only cover a fraction of the cost he said they could help with the repair uncertain if it would be covered in full. so i decided to contact my state's attorney general's office. they have agreed to help me with my case but suggested i report my issues to this agency.

Car started stuttering power with in 3 months of having it. jerks and hesitates when accelerating. clutch assembly has been replaced 3 times. car only has 30,000 miles. sept of 2018 while crossing bridge without any warning car just stopped in mid drive! very scary! towed to ford. was charged for some malfunction??!! car is still shuttering and has difficulty getting to speed. filed complaint with ford back in 2016 that i didn't feel car was safe. no response! after this last incident i am afraid to drive very far for fear it will just stoop running mid drive. avoid all highways because of this

Vehicle stalled while driving 60 mph causing a skid. then, would not restart. luckily, control was barely maintained and no one was injured

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled in the middle of traffic. the vehicle was pulled over to the road shoulder. after the contact added fuel to the vehicle, the body of the vehicle shook violently. also, the vehicle accelerated on its own and the check engine indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to north side ford (12300 san pedro ave, san antonio, tx 78216, (210) 525-9800) where it was diagnosed that the horn needed to be replaced and new tail lights were needed. the horn and tail lights were repaired, but not the power train and engine. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the failure mileage was 86,514.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact stated that the transmission was faulty and the vehicle would not shift into drive or reverse. the vehicle would also shudder and hesitate while driving. furthermore, the battery was faulty and the check engine indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to terry hendricks ford (904 stryker st, archbold, oh 43502, (419) 445-7460) where it was diagnosed that a new clutch needed to be installed. the vehicle was repaired; however, the new clutch failed. shortly after, the vehicle was repaired again by an independent mechanic. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures and did not assist. the failure mileage was 89,000.

Car shudders and feels like transmission problems. replaced clutch under warranty at 31,000 miles and now at 75,000 is is gone again. over $1,200 repair not covered by ford.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. when attempting to accelerate from a stop, the vehicle shuddered, hesitated, and vibrated. the vehicle was taken to thayer ford (18039 n. dixie hwy, boiling green, oh) where it was diagnosed that the clutch and seal kit needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact indicated that the clutch and inner input shaft seals were previously replaced and the transmission was reprogrammed in august of 2017, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 78,000.

The transmission clutches slip so bad in these automatic transmissions. when you pull across an intersection sometimes it don't catch and it hesitates. you don't know if it's going to stall or not. it's worse on stop and go traffic. i was told the clutches are under extended warranty from a lawsuit. my vehicle was made on 9/24/2013. supposedly the cutoff date was june of that year. these cars are faulty. i pulled out across a median and the car took off then hesitated. right as traffic was approaching

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while attempting to accelerate from a stop, the vehicle failed to respond. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact stated that the vehicle returned to normal within thirty seconds. the contact also stated that the failure occurred for approximately six months. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (lookout ford, 5557 us-70, morehead city, nc 28557) where it was diagnosed that the transmission control module failed and needed replacement. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 68,500.

Bought car new. auto trans clutch assembly had to be replaced at 40,000 miles in july 2017. took back to dealership in august 2018 because part faulty again. dealer wants me to pay $1,200. ford will not cover the replacement.

Purched vehicle march 6th 2015.got the extended warrenty since then the transmission was fixed 3 times and now the electronic assist steering went out while pulling in my drive making me hit mailbox and make dent in hood of car.called 3 different dealers and all 3 said sorry that's not on recall even thou the same steering is used on other ford vehicles and are on recall.my warrenty oz up and can not afford to fix transmission and steering.the transmission was moved out to a 5 year 10k mile warrenty.like i said they fixed under warrenty 3 times.this car is a lemon and i have no choice but to send it back and hopefully not be charged for the car.

Vehicle "shudders" excessively upon acceleration after a stop. stalled acceleration that almost lead to crash.taken to ford dealership and told that the dual clutch on the transmission needs to be replaced at 80,000 miles

The car "bucks" when shifting through the gears. this is an automatic. i have had the car for three years. it was purchased as a used rental car with 30,000 miles, if i remember correctly. within three months i had a clutch replaced. less than a year later, the clutch was replaced again. now, less than ten months later, the clutch has gone bad again. (than 25,000 miles). i was told that this will not be covered. i was told that i am not the only customer that has had this experience with clutches.

2014 ford focus has shut down while driving two times. once in the middle of a busy road i was able to coast the car into a parking lot. the second time in my neighborhood, both times tranmissuon fault service now flashed, the car shuddered until it was at a complete stop. i've had the clutch replaced/fixed 2 times neither covered under fully and i was responsible to pay my warranty deductible. i have had the trandmission control module fixed once and now in the shop again, but was told they don't know what the issue is, haven't seen the codes that populated before. each time i drive that car i literally risk my life, to have a car just drop rpm to 0, shudder and jerk until i can find somewhere to park it. i drive 40 miles one way to work taking up to 5 different freeways. at what point does my safety and those driving around me become an issue? when i stall out mid highway? when the car jerks to a stop and someone slams into me? each time the car has been taken in, i am told the problem is fixed, yet i find myself back again within months for the same issue. losing power on a car while being in full motion going up to 45 mph, is not safe for anyone. having to drive a car that consistently shakes and jerks while in motion, is not safe. how many more times does this need to occur before someone realizes this model is not safe!

I have already replaced my clutches once but continue to have the same problem. my dealer ship states that they cannot help for my car does not meet the qualifications for it to be covered under warranty even though it has nit exceeded the 150,000 miles. i feel unsafe for my vehicle shutters when i drive and now has begun to lose power when i push on the gas peddle.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact stated that the check engine indicator kept randomly flashing. crown ford (256 swain st, fayetteville, nc 28303, (910) 920-9614) was notified of the failure several times, but was unable to determine a permanent remedy to repair the vehicle after it had been back and forth to the dealer more than three times. the vehicle shuttered and shook abnormally. while driving approximately 65 mph, the speed decelerated to 0 and the contact quickly maneuvered the vehicle to prevent a crash. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer, but the contact was uncertain if the manufacturer had a permanent remedy. in addition, the diagnostic trouble codes flickered when checked by an independent mechanic. the approximate failure mileage was 65,574.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while operating the vehicle and making a turn, the clutch became stuck. the clutch unlocked once the vehicle went into second gear. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to automax hyundai (3301 e central texas expy, killeen, tx 76541, (888) 840-5771) where it was diagnosed that the clutch needed replacement. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure mileage was 72,000.

Why don"t any websites show there is a class action law suit for 2012-2016 ford focus (and 2011 - 2016 fiestas) ??? these cars are not safe!!!! lawsuit settled oct. 2017, now in appeals. supposed to cover through 7 years 100k. purchased this car used from dublin hyundai. rental 4+ years enterprise. prior service at salinas ford = transmission "flashed", replaced tcm @ 15k and clutch @ 50k. drove fine on flat roads; started shuddering violently at low speeds and on hills. loses power as well. not safe!!! local sonora ford will not service "doesn't meet the 250 rpms "(currently "only" 192) local ford will not fix and hyundai doesn't want to either. local ford guys told my 18 year old to "drive it like you stole it" and punch the gas. they also agree it is not safe but "their hands are tied". they say a new clutch will make it okay for 15-20k more, but it the shuddering will re-occur!! these cars are not safe and are lemons and all should be repurchased by ford and taken off the roads!

My car has a severe transmission shudder when applying gas after stopping. it has been diagnosed that it needs a new clutch. i'm aware that ford has extended the warranty on on this model focus due to a dysfunction within the design of the dual clutch system, however my vin number has not received this extended warranty for some reaso and i would have to pay to get it repaired. . the car is not safe due to a defect.

Shuttering at take off, slalling when in motion has been doing this for several weeks

This may be a duplicate report. i tried on a different server, but the saved page was blank. i purchased the car used from a rental car agency. it had about 25, 000 or 30,000 miles. with a short time the car started 'bucking' when shifting through the lower gears. the clutch was replaced. less than one year the car started 'bucking' again. the clutch was replaced again. both times at a ford dealership. in the last month the 'bucking' has started again. i was told that this is not covered under warranty, even though it is the same 'symptom' and the same part. i was told by the manager that my car is not the only car that has had this problem.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact stated that the vehicle shutters when going around turns. the contact had to have three clutches replaced by the dealer barber ford of hazleton (1112 n church st, hazleton, pa 18202, (570) 454-2414). the contact stated that the warranty would expire next year and was concerned since the clutches last only a few months before they had to be replaced. the dealer stated that the vehicle was not accepting the clutches. the contact is currently on a waiting list to have her clutch replaced from it malfunctioning back in july of 2018. the manufacturer had not been contacted. the failure mileage was 26,000.

It only has 40,000 miles on it but i got a "transmission fault. service now" warning light and the car jerked violently. this happened while driving at a high rate of speed (80 mph) on a high way - i live in texas where 80 mph is legal. this is a significant risk and can cause accidents as a car behind me could have easily ran into me as i lost speed when transmission went out. please have ford recall these dangerous vehicles in order to prevent accidents from happening.

Takata inflators. this car was unsafe to drive, when you get to a red light, the car jerked you ,when you place your feet on the brakes. then when you press the accelerator to go it jerk back and pulled you forward. changing geers would hard to shift and sometimes stick. the engine light would come on, the car was taken to ford dealership 3 times and tested, they never fixed the problem. i almost crased at the stop sign trying to stop, the brakes got stuck. i had the car for one month, and filled a lemmon law complaint on line, and they insisted i had to wait a period of time, because i just purchased the car. after the 3rd, time visting the ford repair shop, in one month time, i was disappointed and where i bought the car from at a kia dealership, they would not give me my money back , only offered to trade the ford focus in back to them and buy a kia car from them, i loss my down payment, and got stuck with a roll over fee of 4,500 from the remaining balance of the ford fusion added on to the new kia. and a higher car payment. they sold e a lemon, and had a warranty and still refuse to fix the car. the transmission was bad and they sold the ford to the auction to get it off their hands. i was stalled for 30 days believing they would fix the car, the lemon law couldn't help me after i faxed all the papers to them. the ford focus was on the recall list, and i don't have the car now, is there anyway i can get credited for the $4.500 in a law suit for buying the ford under warranty and they refuse to fix the car right.

Driving on the interstate in atlanta, ga traveling around 65 mph and the car lost power and the transmission seemed to shift into neutral. i had to coast to the slow lane to be able to pull on the shoulder, as i had no power. after turning the car off and back on, i was able to put the car into drive and exit the interstate, but the car lost power again shortly after and i had to pull over and power cycle again. at that point, i pulled into a business parking lot and called a tow truck. the car would not even start up again at this point.

Jerking and hesitation in take off of transmission

When entering high way and step on gas car struggles and stays at a low speed and will no speed up until after awhile it starts to shift gears. when going at a high speed wheels start to shake car can't go faster than 55mph. when making a complete stop and the. step on gas it struggles to shift gears, when turning car off and then turning it on after 10 minutes car will not turn on even with a new battery. you have to keep trying to idle until car turns on.

Ford replaced transmission module/sendor car kept stalling. was in highspeed lane car just cut off. happened 2x in 8 days. ford says no recalls but same issue keeps happening. it is unsafe it could have been fatal i was in rush hr traffic. thank god i was going down an incline and could coast enough to get to the side of the road.

Jerking motion / hesitation when accelerating from standing position.
