Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that the rear driver and passenger doors failed to latch and open independently. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 46,000. the vin was not provided.

2012 ford focus sel front passenger-side door is failing to latch closed. latch mechanism can only be actuated through directly holding the affected door closed and locking the door remotely. door stays closed if locked.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. while parked, the latch on the front passenger side door lock failed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the latch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 61,000.

Driver door latch failed preventing door from latching closed. door could open while vehicle in motion

Driver side door latch is broken. when shutting the door it will not latch and can come open when driving. i took it to the dealer and it is not part of the door latch recall.

I came out of a store and got into my vehicle to drive over to my job in the same shopping center. at the time, my driver side door latched properly but upon getting out of my vehicle at work, 30 seconds later, my door latch malfunctioned and would not latch. in order to leave work that night, i had to tie the door shut with a rope. thank god my young son was not with me and the car was not in motion at the time. this is a major concern and its only a matter of time before more people have the same problem and get seriously injured. ford has already had a recall on some other models for this same issue. i strongly believe we have come across yet another model with faulty door latches. i have not had the issue fixed yet due to insufficient funds but will be fixing it soon. once i do get it fixed i will still fear for my safety, my son's safety, and the safety of any other 2012 ford focus owners. i hope and pray we can resolve this issue quickly before anyone else gets hurt.

Discovered drivers side door will not close, stay shut, latch, or lock properly. door may be pulled or pushed open when parked or at any speed and latching mechanism will not keep door in place. this is a highly concerning safety issue as this resulted in recalls for the explorer, 2011-2014 fiesta, 2013-2014 fusion, and 2013-2014 mkz with the same exact mechanism.

Driver's side car door swung open in parking lot. door will not close or latch at all. could have caused injuy or damage.

I was driving to an early morning meeting (5:30am) when the driver side door suddenly opened without warning. once the door opened, it would no longer latch. the car door had to be manually held firmly closed for the duration of the trip. with every turn, the door would attempt to fly open.

My 2012 ford focus was taken into ford dealer on 8/24/15 to repair a back driver side door latch, door opened up while driving on turnpike from davie to north miami beach, florida and i had to have it repaired since there was no recall for this item with my vin # , cost me $615.00 to repair. got my car back six weeks later since ford motor didn't have the part available for this length of time. there is a recall for this same problem on the fiesta and fusion 2012 but not ford focus. i was told to keep my receipt in case there is a recall started on this particular problem with ford focus and my vin # is included.

My 2012 ford focus has a faulty back driver side door that will not close. had to take to dealer and pay $503.00 to repair this problem. according to ford the fiesta has displayed this same problem; however, my particular vin number has not been included in this recall. "the door latch in these vehicles may experience a broken pawl spring tab, which typically results in a condition where the door will not latch," the company said in a statement. "if a customer is then able to latch the door, there is potential the door may unlatch while driving, increasing the risk of injury." "ford is aware of two allegations of soreness resulting from an unlatched door bouncing back when the customer attempted to close it, and one accident allegation when an unlatched door swung open and struck an adjacent vehicle as the driver was pulling into a parking space," the company said. no information about the recall has been posted on the web site of the national highway traffic safety adminstration, which oversees vehicle safety in the u.s. "in response to a thorough nhtsa investigation that demonstrated a clear risk to safety, ford is taking important action to protect its customers," said nhtsa administrator mark rosekind in a statement sent to edmunds. "we are pleased that ford is taking this proactive step for safety." last month, nhtsa upgraded a probe into the 2011-'13 ford fiesta for door-latch problems. "ford identified the issue and we have been investigating it through our normal process," wrote ford spokeswoman kelli felker in response to a query from edmunds. "ford is working cooperatively with the agency and has discussed this recall with nhtsa." the recall includes 336,873 vehicles in the u.s. and federalized territories, 30,198 in canada and 22,514 in mexico.

Tl* the contacts owns a 2012 ford focus. while driving approximately 10 mph, the front driver side door unlatched independently without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the door latch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. on another occasion, the contact mentioned that the rear liftgate unlatched independently without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the rear liftgate latch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 35,000.

Driver front door latch stopped working. can not lock door. car was stationary

Door latches broken. doors won't close.happened while vehicle was stationary.

This car is relatively new. all of a sudden and with any notice, both doors on the driver side stopped working properly. they close but do not lock. i have had to drive the car with the doors tied as the ford dealership wants to charge me a large amount of money to repair the situation. this is a major safety issue. i contacted the ford dealership and the ford motor company. i was told that they are not responsible for the problem and that i had to repair the car myself. very irresponsible because they have recalled the fiesta and the fusion for exactly the same problem.

Right-side passenger door latch failed while driving on freeway. door flew open and would not re-close. my child injured her arm when the door bounced back. this is the second door latch to fail in less than a week.

Door would not stay closed....updated 09/03/15 *bf updated 11/27/2017*cn

Driver door latch failed and flew open while driving. door would not stay closed.

Cornering at 10-15 mph and front driver door latch made a popping noise and door flew open. door will no longer latch and lock.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that the front driver side door handle and the rear driver side door handle fractured. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be repaired. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the details of the repairs were unavailable. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 54,000.

Opened the driver's rear door. put the child in the car seat. closed the door and it slammed open. thinking i might have locked the doors hit unlock, but it did it again. luckily, i had a bungee and my wife drove home while i held the door shut.

While driving to a store, took a right hand turn and driver side door flew wide open. i held the door shut while driving with one arm. my brother who had a 2013 ford fiesta had the same problem with both rear doors, and his passenger door. this issue i have heard of thousands of times and yet no recall? it's going to take someone falling out of their car and the car hitting innocent bystanders for this to become serious for ford to fix. the dealership wants $500 for this fix despite its a known manufacturer defect, and terrible design. 2010+ ford cars in my opinion are all garbage, and ford service does not care.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 55 mph, the driver side door opened independently without warning. in addition, the contact stated that the vehicle lost speed and then stalled as the instrument panel illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was repaired under an unknown manufacturer recall. the failure recurred multiple times. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 34,000. updated 04/13/16*lj *cn

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. while driving 40 mph, the front driver and passenger side doors opened independently and failed to close. the contact had to use cords to secure the doors in place. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 60,000.

I have a ford focus 2012 it has power lock on the doors. 3 doors lock with the remote just fine the door behind the drivers seat wont even close. it opens when i turn corners. this is a safety issues especially when i have small children, this car has had two recall fixes one with car rolling back even though it is an automatic and a transmission failure all due to electrical issues. i feel that the this is another one given that my passenger left rear door cant even be manually locked its only locked and unlocked electrically, there is nothing blocking the door to make it not close only the lock itself.

Door latches on the ford focuses have a tendency to break without any warning. i opened my rear left door to deposit something in the backseat, tried to close the door, and i realized it wouldn't shut because the door latch had broken. luckily, i was parked in a parking lot, but i had to drive the car down to the dealership holding the door closed the entire way because i didn't have any way to wire it shut. it posed a serious safety hazard.

On may 18, 2015, when i was pulling out of my work parking lot and turning onto the main street, the passenger front door flew open for no reason. i pulled over and tried to close the door, but it would not latch closed at all. i tried several times and ended up "seat-belting" the door shut. i feel this is an extremely serious safety issue. when i took it to the dealership, i had a pay $100 deductible for this to be fixed, but again, i feel this is a safety issue and deserves due investigation. there was absolutely no reason for the car door to come open when i was driving. as i am writing this complaint on july 31, 2015, my back passenger door did the same thing, except my daughter was in the backseat!! (tracking issue #: 10745475) i sincerely hope consumer affairs looks into why ford focus 2012 car doors are not latching closed! *tr

Three of my 4 door latches stopped functioning completely. they did not work whether the car was stationary, in motion, driving, or turning. we had to tie the door handles to each other from the inside to keep them from flying open while driving. when you pushed them shut from the outside, they would bounce back open. this also caused constant warning lights/sounds from the dash. ford stated there was a recall, but ours were not covered because my 4 door latches were packaged as a 4 pack whereas the serial numbers for the recalled latches were sold in individual packaging. so therefore, i was not covered due to a loop hole. the doors not shutting properly (ever) caused water to leak in and cause other problems such as the window motor shorting out. i reached out to corporate and customer service and was told they would not pay for the repairs. i paid for the repairs out of pocket because i had to.

The rear driver side door latch will not close the door just bounces back open if you attempt to close it. i have to use a cord or rope to tie the door handle closed or it would swing open during vehicle operation.

Car lost power and engine light came on while traveling southbound on i-95. underneath parts and lower body panels caught fire and melted. vehicle was towed to the paul clark ford dealership in yulee, fl. where it was discovered the engine had experienced a catastrophic engine failure. there was a hole a little smaller than a basketball blown out of the bottom of the crankcase with the oil pump and pieces of the engine laying on the shield covering the oil pan. the car had just been fully serviced with it's routine oil change, recommended service routine, etc by same dealer. even though the vehicle is under full warranty, nothing has been done to repair the vehicle as of yet. ford is conducting an internal review and said it could take up to 90 days before a determination is made. they also have not offered a loaner vehicle or a rental car to the owner while this process is taking place. *tr

Driving to get the mail.our mail box is at the end of our road about half a mile from the house. there is a drainage ditch that must be crossed parallel too the road that has the mail boxes on it. this is a t intersection. just before the ditch the car slowed so i pressed the throttle to regain speed and nothing happened i pressed the throttle again and it acted as if it had been floored and did not return. the car sped up and went into the ditch even though i was pushing on the break.it flew out of the ditch and through the mail boxes, taking out three boxes and trapping me in the car with boxes on each side preventing the doors from opening. the car received a lot of body damage and had to go to the shop. *js

Was parking car when suddenly it lunged forward at a fast speed, i lost control and hit car in front of me plus 3 other cars then crashed into cement wall. i hit my head and left side of body on the door, i bruised my rib cage front & back plus my left leg very bruised. i was very lucky i didn't get killed. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that the driver side door opened independently and failed to shut properly. the dealer stated that the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. the manufacturer was not notified. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 49,000.

Drivers door latch failed to latch closed. parts were unavailable in inventory. we were told that the part was not under factory warranty and no safety recall issued. three weeks later rear door on drivers side failed. door will not latch closed. car is at dealer awaiting repairs. we were given the same information, the parts are not under factory warranty. *tr

I turned onto a two lane street (one lane in each direction). the oncoming traffic was stopped due a red light. an suv pulled out of a parking lot between two of the cars waiting for the light to turn green and tried to cut across my lane also, but hit my car instead. i drive a ford focus, a small car. i was hit on my driver's side front fender and door. the front driver's side fender and mirror were torn completely off of the car. the front driver's side tire was damaged, and something was bent, so that the tire could no longer be set in a straight position. the hood was bent, and the driver's side headlight was hanging from the car. the interior portion of the driver's side foot well caved inward and hit my legs. the driver's door was hit so hard that the door would not open, and i had to untangle my feet, and exit the car from the passenger side. my tiny car was hit by an suv that had "punched" the gas to try and cross in front of me- but hit my driver's side door instead. there was a great deal of damage done to my car, but my airbag never deployed. i've heard of airbags going off when someone barely hit something with their bumper, yet i got hit directly in my door, at a decent rate of speed by an automobile twice the size of mine, and my airbag did not deploy. not my front airbag, nor my side impact airbags. i have to believe this is some type of defect. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. while driving 15 mph and attempting to make a right turn, the front driver side door ajar warning indicator illuminated. the contact attempted to close the door, but it failed to properly close. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 60,000.

2012 ford focus. consumer writes in regards to water leakage on the inside passenger side. *smd the consumer stated two after the vehicle was supposedly fixed, water leaked inside again. the consumer continued to drive the vehicle. then at 13,000 miles, the vehicle started to shudder and shake when she accelerated. the consumer then traded the vehicle for another a 2014 ford focus and she experienced the same shudder problems. the consumer was informed, the automatic transmission, also had a clutch. *jb

Two of the doors on my 2012 ford focus flew open when driving in separate incidents. i had to get each fixed individually for $500 each.

The material on the steering wheel is flaking off. *tr

Chrome plating is peeling away from steering wheel air bag edges. edges are sharp and can cut through skin. could be possible to puncture airbag? *tr

The vehicle was parked with the engine off. a fire spontaneously began in the engine compartment. the vehicle was in service for 14 months, bought new and under a maintenance contract. no previous issues. *tr

The chrome metallic trim on the steering wheel began peeling off around the edge. pieces of sharp metal cut into my fingertips on a number of occasions. *tr

The chrome metallic trim on the steering wheel peeling off around the edge. sharp metal has caused numerous cuts to the driver's hands. *tr

Chrome trim on steering wheel peeling away from plastic - results in very sharp metal protruding from edge of steering wheel. i was not injured, but it was very possible that i could have been badly cut by the sharp metal. *tr

When driver entered vehicle, started it, and began to steer, the silver finish on the right side, top of the steering wheel crossbeam had split and curled up, which caused lacerations across two fingers. the car had been fine on previous use, and had been unused for several days prior to the incident. this appears to be a defect in the finish itself. *tr

Flaking chrome from around steering wheel, cutting fingers. *tr

Metallic steering wheel trim is peeling at the top left side of steering wheel. peeling material is very sharp and can easily cut skin, as it did to me and many others as seen online after doing a simple search for "ford focus peeling steering wheel trim". i'm also concerned that in rare circumstances the airbag itself could be cut by the sharp trim when deploying. *tr
