We have classified the 14 complaints from 2012 Ford Focus about STRUCTURE into the following categories.
Drivers door came flying open when backing out of driveway. door will close but will not latch. this was very scary and have not had any issues with it till now. car has less then 50k miles and this is unacceptable by ford to use such substandard parts and on such a safety sensitive area of the car. new latch is anywhere from 180-250 and around 400 labor to change.part number cm5z54219a65his what failed.
Since march of 2016 i've had to deal with door latch issues. my driver side door failed to stay shut. luckily it was just sitting in my driveway and quit working overnight. the second occurrence was my rear drive side door flew open when i turned on a city street. lastly, the rear passenger door swung open while drive down another city street road. ford refuses to fix unless i pay close to $700 per door out of pocket.
Driver's side rear passenger door will not latch closed. vehicle was off and stationary in garage. no amount of locking or unlocking car with both key transmitter or button in vehicle would latch door securely. door had to be tied shut in order to tow car to ford dealer for service.
In july of 2015, the left rear door latch, that is apparently plastic, failed and would not allow the door to latch and remain closed. during that occurance the vehicle was stationary. i paid for and replaced the part on my own. now, in march of 2016, the right front door latch failed. at that time, my 7 yr old granddaughter had entered the vehicle and closed the door. while making a left turn onto the freeway, the door suddenly opened. my granddaughter always wears her seatbelt, which thankfully helped us to avoid a very serious tragedy. we have a case number with ford concerning this defect, but have not been able to bring the vehicle to them yet. the case number is cas-9127854.
The driver door will not close. the problem started when my wife closed the door as she left the supermarket. it looks like a small tab broke off the closing mechanism. my wife had to hold the door closed to drive home, and i used a bunge cord to keep it from opening as i took it to the dealer this morning. it was very dangerous as the door would try to open on curves and when stopping, and one hand must stay on the door. i understand the 2012 and 2013 fusion and escape have already been recalled for this problem, and i found numerous posts on the internet reciting exactly this problem. i also understand from the internet that the nhtsa opened an investigation of the focus regarding this problem in january of 2016. my 2012 ford focus titantium has approximately 67,000 miles. by the way, i also have a 2013 ford fusion titantium that i have read was recalled in 2015 for the same problem. although i have received other 2015 recall notices for the fusion, i have not received one related to the door problem.
When making right hand turn on public road, my driver's side rear door swung open and is now inoperable due to it's inability to latch. door latch assembly (ford part number 219a64) failure at less than 50,000 miles.
We were driving home from a family vacation and stopped to get ice cream. when we got back in the car, the passenger door lock was messed up and the door wouldn't stay closed. we were a long ways from home so had to tie the back doors together to keep the door from flying open. the door latch attachment has been recalled on several other ford vehicles but not on the ford fusion. from what i have been reading on-line, there enough complaints about the ford fusion to recall the part for it too.
Door latch would release while the vehicle was moving in city traffic. had to use straps to tie the door shut. was repaired by dealer and then the same thing occurred on another door. also was repaired by the dealer. it appeared the latch just failed in both occurrences.
The door latches are failing without warning. upon exiting the vehicle after stopping the latches have failed and the doors will not stay closed. in august 2015, the driver's rear door latch failed upon opening the door to put my purse in the backseat, it would not close after that. i had to drive it to the dealership while holding the door closed. this proved to be dangerous as i drive a manual car. now the driver's door latch failed upon exiting the vehicle. this is a safety hazard as it can strand drivers without notice. the door has to be tied shut so it can be driven to the dealership who had to order the part. ford is aware of the problem and have recalled the door latches on other model years of focus, fiesta, and fusion.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. while backing out of the driveway, the driver side door swung open independently and failed to close properly. the door ajar warning light illuminated. the failure occurred constantly. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 104,000.
Vehicle with 42000 miles, the rear drive side passenger door latch fails to secure the door. the door latch mechanism does lock / fasten / engage in the conventional manner that doors do when the door is "shut". at present the door is required to be tied / secured from the inside of the vehicle to prevent the door from swinging open, while the vehicle is operating.
Doors fly open when driving, this car is 3 years old less than 60,000 miles and in the last 4 months 3 of my four doors have flown open while car is in motion. twice now when my teen driver was by herself rounding a corner from a stop sign and once just going straight ( drivers door) at 40 mph.
As part of my job, i drive senior citizens to the store, etc., in my car. on friday, feb. 12, 2016, i drove an elderly couple; the wife sat in the back seat behind the driver's seat. i assisted her out of the car and then attempted to shut her door, which would not latch shut and still won't. i shudder to think what would have happened if the car had been moving when that happened. to get home without the door flying open, i strapped it shut using seat belts. the dealer can get me in tomorrow (tuesday). i googled this issue and found many stories about other ford cars being recalled because of this same issue, just not mine, the 2012 ford focus, and people asking why the focus hasn't been included in the recall. needless to say, i am quite upset over the potential danger my riders have been in, and that i knew nothing about it, and do not understand why ford is ignoring the focus while recalling the rest of them if these latches pose a safety risk. in the meantime, how can i do my job if i know my riders are at risk?
After opening the driver's door, it would not close. took to ford and they said the door latch was faulty and need replacing at part cost of over 450 dollars. bought a new car instead.
I unlock the car and opened the rear door and tried to close it back and it wouldn't catch the latch stopped working. the door wouldn't stay closed even when i tried to lock it. i was told by dealer there was no recall on it. i have attached an invoice of the repair.
I have a 2012 ford focus se hatchback. with faulty door latches. two (driver's side door, and drivers side rear door) have been replaced. ford has issued a recall for this specific problem, including many 2012 focus models, however, my 2012 focus was not included in this recall. the dealership has not been very helpful.
The trunk lid opens while driving. it has happened about 7 times driving at various speeds including highway speeds. i have brought it to the ford dealer to check for problems. no problem is ever found but it continues to happen. note the only way to normally open the trunk is with the remote. i have tried using the spare key to determine whether it is the remote sending a signal while driving but the problem occurs with both keys. my suspicion is there is some rf signal which is causing this to occur. the latch is fine and ford conformed no issues with the latch.
Parked up and vehicle was stationary. rear passenger door was opened to get bags out, then when shut would no longer latch. no process would make door latch, door ajar light remained on. secured door temporarily with cords. took car into future ford of clovis ca, they were not interested in the slightest to hear my concerns and to how dangerous this could have been had door swung open if i'd been driving. i pointed out the many incidents i noticed on various websites and that fiesta's having same parts had been recalled and repaired. they were only interested in charging me to investigate problem and see if the lock was the issue. if the guy had stepped out from behind his counter and just looked i think he could have confirmed it, but wanted to charge me a $100 to do that. i ended up purchasing parts from ebay and installing it myself. nothing to say this one won't fail at any time. i have no confidence in their safety latches what so ever. as for future ford of clovis disgusting attitude towards vehicle safety only interested in $$$$$$$$
Today, while putting several things in the back of the car, my wife noticed that the rear drives side door would not close. upon further investigation, it appears that the latch of the door is not functioning properly and the door is not able to be closed. it is currently sitting, undriveable, in the garage. this vehicle is my daily driver. luckily, i am able to drive my wifes car this week as she is still off for the holiday. from what i have seen, the failure of the latch is a common problem on other ford vehicles and have been recalled.
Takata recall ford focus 2012 passenger rear door no longer closes as latch will not engage, this happened whilst stationary luckily, the rear doors are rarely used and for a 3 year old car this is a poor failure. had to use rope to bind door to drivers rear door as i had to get vehicle back home. extremely dangerous situation and am glad it did not happen whilst driving or braking. contacted clovis ford dealership and basically their response was it's not in warranty so you're on your own. regardless of all the fiesta and fusion recalls with similar issues you think they would be at least slightly interested in helping with this matter. poorly constructed safety locks in my mind. poor show ford america. *js
Daughter was driving and the driver door latch failed and the door wouldn't stay shut. dealership said defect in door latch. said there is a recall but only for fusion & fiesta models. 2 months later same happened to driver side back door. again told by ford not covered, however they did reimburse 2 other 2012 ford focus owners for same issue. when i presented ford with this info, they said they were not going to cover this safety defect at this time....
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. while driving 60 mph, the driver side door opened without warning. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 33,000.
My driver door swung open as i was turning right from a stop light on a city street. i was able to latch the door but it unlatched and opened again.
2012 ford focus. rear passenger door flew open while child safety lock was engaged. door will no longer latch. while investigating this issue i have learned this is a common problem with the 2012 ford focus. it is also a $600 fix. this is not a ware and tear problem. doors should never fail risking passengers safety. i have used a strap to tie the door shut to keep it from flying open and hitting something or slamming shut on a passenger while driving.
Latches on rear left door broke. not even 2 weeks later left driver side latch broke. th focus has the exact same latches as the fiesta and fusion which both have recalls, but the focus does not. the car was not in motion, but now when i drive i have to have the door tied to the other door, so it does not fling open. i also got pulled over in between these two weeks and was cited for driving an unsafe vehicle.
One day when day our son was a passenger in our daughter's focus and they arrived home, he exited the vehicle and when he tried closing the door, it wouldn't close. i went to check it out and sure enough it wouldn't close (latch). after a few tries we discovered that if we slammed the door as hard as possible, it would latch. we did this for a few weeks and then one day it just wouldn't latch no matter how hard you slammed it. we decided to not allow anyone to drive in the passenger seat. we had to tie the seat belt around the door handle so that the door would stay closed. once this happened we called and scheduled an appointment with san tan ford to fix the problem.
The driver's side door failed in november 2015. the car parked and locked in the driveway in front of our home. we noticed that the interior dome light was on. we found that we could no longer close or lock the door. we had to use bungie cords to close the driver's side door by attaching the cords to the door handle of the front passenger side door. since the car was no longer under warranty we brought it to our mechanic to repair. we noticed that this has happened to other focus owners and that this is something that is being investigated for the purposes of a recall and want to include our experience. we have attached a copy of the invoice from our mechanic which lists the part number. do we have to be concerned about this part or the latches on the remaining car doors? it is concerning that this has happened to people while driving! i consider us fortunate that the car was parked when this occurred.
Driver side door suddenly will not latch, creating a dangerous safety hazard. the door remains open preventing the vehicle to be driven without some kind of strap holding the driver's door closed to prevent it from swinging open while the vehicle is in motion. this type or contraption impairs the driver from driving safely and could potentially cause an accident if suddenly swings open, even worse person can fall out of vehicle if this failure was to happen while the vehicle is in motion. fortunately, this happened to us as we had arrived and parked our car. once the door was opened and the driver exited the vehicle the door would not latch closed again.
The left hand back door latch broke. the door will not latch and my wife is keeping the door closed with the seat belt. the car was in a parking lot and when my daughter got in the door would not latch.
The rear door latch on the driver's side suddenly failed with the door flying open. the door will not latch. the latch is made of plastic. this is an extreme safety hazard and it is just a matter of time until someone falls out of a moving vehicle and is killed or injured. ford has already recalled the fiesta and other model(s) for the same failure. i called ford and they refused to take responsibility for the failure. they did say that they were aware of a large number of failures but would not issue a recall.
Passenger side front door latch assembly broke causing the door to swing open while driving. this occurred while driving through a parking lot at the mall and my wife almost fell out of the car. not only was she forced to catch herself and the door from flying open but now i am forced to use a ratchet strap to hold the door closed as the local ford dealer stated they are still waiting to get the part but have no idea when.
Drivers side rear door no longer latches, ford dealer quoted $430 to repair. this is a safety issue and should be recalled by ford. we managed to get the door to latch by clamming the door, fortunately it has not popped open while parked or in motion.
11/4/2015 - parked at restaurant the car was stationary in parking lot opened the door and when closing it the driver's side front door suddenly quit latching and won't lock. the door swings open freely and slams against the frame and my elbow as the car is moving. the alarm and dash warnings go off constantly as the switch can't be depressed properly. this is a safety issue due to premature product failure. ford says it's not covered under recall if the car is out of warranty. there is no difference it's a plastic latch just like the ford fiesta, fusion, and mkz latches under current recall.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that the rear driver side door lock system failed. the rear driver side door lock became unlocked and caused the door to open while driving 35 mph. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the door lock needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 80,000.
Car was stationary, when rear passenger door was opened for someone to enter, it would not close. latch seems broken, door must be secured with cords. it is susceptible to theft thus.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, the rear driver side door suddenly opened and could no longer be closed and secured. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the rear driver side door latch failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 70,000.
Spouse was driving kids home from school late yesterday afternoon (10-20-2015). young teenage daughter was in the drivers side, rear seat, seat belted and resting against the driver side rear door. vehicle was in motion on our city street when she made a right turn into our neighborhood. the driver side, rear door suddenly opened and my daughter screamed, her backpack fell out of the car. my spouse immediately stopped the car and found that the driver side, rear door latch was no longer latching closed. spouse no longer driving vehicle today. i have the door held closed with the drivers side, rear seat belt. i am unable to lock/secure my vehicle and the exterior lights remain on when there is no pressure pushing/pulling the door closed. daughter was not injured.
I have had my passanger door latch replaced a few months ago as it was not shutting , on saturday the 17 of oct 2015 i was driving home and my door opened while i was drivivg now that drivers door latch is broken ? 10/19/20215 service advisor states there is a charge of $411.00 i am 5 months pregnant and cant afford that because what are that chanches of two doors being defective , i had to call in to work as i have no transportation my door will not shut .
Tl* the contact owns a owns a 2012 ford focus. while driving approximately 30 mph and making a right turn, the driver side door opened independently. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the latch fractured. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 67,000.
Driver side rear door latch failed, preventing door from closing properly. safety hazard as door will not remain closed. second door latch to fail on this vehicle.
Vehicle is equipped with remote entry and passive anti-theft system. on october 8, 2015, the right rear passenger door latch failed while the vehicle was stationary in a parking lot and the door will not stay closed. at present the door is being held closed with a bungee cord. part is currently not available from ford.
Right hand rear door latch failure. vehicle was moving from park when defect was warned by the dashboard "door open" warning system. (warning! the following is an editorial, or rant, by the car owner. he intends to shame those at ford who decide that things like door latch issues do not serve the bottom line so are unimportant.) to thoroughly describe this problem one need only to know of the hundreds of thousands of fords already recalled for the same issue. cajoling by some seems to increase the scope of the recall, which does not yet include this vehicle. among other things, this is a safety concern. passenger seatbelts being more widely used does not allow for door latches to be less effective! let the luxury options fail before ten years, not the bones of the thing. who decides to continue using bad latch technology for so long? this is not a challenge, it is a choice.
In july 2015 the left frond door latch failed to secure the door and the vehicle had to be taken to the dealership for repairs as i was unable to close the door. i had to pay a 100.00 deductible because that "safety" feature was not covered. then in october 2015 the left rear door latch failed to secure and i had to repeat the process. this is a serious safety hazard as i was forced to drive on the i-10 freeway while reaching in the back to hold the door closed as the door latch was inoperable. please review this situation carefully and consider this a recall service item. it is imperative that all doors be secured while driving. vehicles are inoperable if the door latches are not securing the doors. thank you in advance for your consideration in this matter. *tr
I purchased a ford focus may of 2014, with 30,000 miles on it. i had a factory warranty up to 60,000 miles on it. i am now at 62,000 miles on my car and the latch on my driver side door broke and my door flew open while driving on the freeway at 70 mph. if i were not wearing my seatbelt, i would have flown out of my car to my death! since then, i have had to bungie my front doors shut, leaving me no access to get in and out of my car safely, having to crawl in my backseat. i need this fixed asap and i am not paying to get it fixed with so many fords breaking down.
Door latch on driver side will not latch and close, i have heard of other people having the same issue. i know they have a recall for the ford fiesta for the same problem, i am pretty sure this is the same latch assembly that's on the fiesta.
September 28 2015 the passenger side rear door would not stay closed. i paid $335 for the rear door latch to be replaced. today, june 19, 2016, my driver side door will not stay closed. i commute to work and do not feel safe driving with this defect.
Driver door latch would not latch door closed.
Rear driver's side door latch failed-- door will not stay closed as a result.
I have a 2012 ford focus sel sedan. i was removing some items from the back seat and upon closing the right-hand rear door the door would not latch. tried locking the door remotely before closing. no effect. tried jogging the door latch mechanism to see if it was stuck somehow. no effect. i have to tie a string to the door handle from the inside around the front passenger headrest in order to keep the door closed! to add insult to injury, the front-passenger door latch mechanism failed less than a week ago! a replacement part is on order for it from my local ford dealer. fortunately, the front door will stay closed if it is locked before closing it, but this is still a ridiculous component failure.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that there was rust on the body and subframe of the vehicle. in addition, the seat belt retractor fractured three times. the seat belt retractor was repaired, but ford declined to repair the rust. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 67,513.
