Problems with 2012 Ford Focus UNKNOWN OR OTHER

On average, the 2012 Ford Focus starts to “feel” problems with the UNKNOWN OR OTHER and its various aspects after 78 178 miles.

Recently reported UNKNOWN OR OTHER problems on 2012 Ford Focus

The transmission malfunction sevice now warning came on. car shudders and lurchs when on incline, slowing at intersection, difficulty maintaining 60 mph on expressway. clutch had been recalled and replaced several times: the first at 3,543 miles. the vehicle had shuddered, lurched forward i off/on for four years when stopping, slowing down and at highway speeds.

The trunk lid opens randomly. it opens whenever the car is started or turned off(while the keys are taken out), when shifting between gears, and when the car is first set into motion. it has not opened while driving at full speed but worried that it could happen.

About 2 months ago, while driving, my radio made a very loud pop similar to a gunshot noise, then stopped playing music and would not turn back on until i turned the car off and back on. this would happen periodically. in about the past 2 weeks it has happened more and more often, and now the radio will not turn on at all. the noise coming from the speaker has gotten much worse. it now crackles, booms, makes high pitched noises, some of which are extremely loud. these noises now happen all the time- when the car is on and in drive (any speed), stopped, in park, and even happen when it is completely off, no key in the ignition at all. being someone who scares easily, there is no doubt in my mind that if it happened at the right moment, these loud noises would cause me to crash. there is no recall and i cannot find any information where ford even acknowledges the problem, even though a quick search on google shows that this is clearly a problem happening with many focuses and similar models. i have video recordings but unfortunately cannot figure out a format that will work to upload them here, i would be happy to send them another way if who ever receives this complaint would like.

The horn stopped working, with no apparent cause, in all capacities. i first noticed the problem when attempting to use the remote locking feature on the key. later, while at a stop sign in city traffic, trying to signal to another driver they were making a dangerous traffic violation, i discovered the horn itself, and not the key interface, was to blame.

The radio in my 2012 ford focus se has malfunctioned. while driving one day, i heard a loud pop and then static. it was so loud it scared me and i almost had an accident. it has done this numerous times, even when the car is turned off and the key is removed from the ignition. upon checking social media and complaints on the web, this has happened to quite a few 2012 ford focus vehicles. the only way to stop this from happening is to remove the fuse for the radio from the fuse box located under the glove box on the inside of the vehicle. ford has refused to make the necessary repairs at their cost and i fully believe this is a safety issue due to the loudness of the popping and cracking. i have now been without a radio in my car for more than a year. after speaking with some audio experts, the only suggested solution is to replace the head unit for the radio. these cost more than $200.00 alone, not including the labor to install the head unit.

The driver side door latch will not keep the door closed. i was driving down the road and the door flew open on a backroad. i had to bungee my doors shut just to make it home. this is a huge safety hazard and i am worried that this will happen with my children in the car next time.

Door latch on driver side passenger door stopped securing the door - would not keep door from opening - would not keep door in closed position. vehicle was stationary. a tie-down strap is keeping door from swinging open.

The car door on the driver's side will not close.

My car has been going backward when in drive and then just won't go. today it totally stopped moving while driving on the highway. thank god i was close to home and was able to pull over on the side of the highway. walked to the garage down around the bend and they pushed it off the highway and into their yard. before totally stopping the car would buck forward while driving then slow down and speed up on its own. now won't start or run. possibly the transmission or gear stick

Driver side door would not latch shut. there is a recall on this vehicle since september 2016, which i have not been contacted about. how does it take 2 years to get in contact with a person who bought a ford from the dealership?

The car has a bad stutter from complete stops, or even when slowing down it stutters and shakes. even at low speeds the rpm staggers from 200 to 800 just sitting still. when i'm in traffic going under 40mph the rpm staggers between 1-2000 rpm it's just unsafe and worrisome and needs to be fixed by ford! i've ready serval different blogs with various customers having the same issue! it would be sad for someone to lose their life behind this problem because ford won't address and handle the issue

It started as the radio being on and a loud cracklings sound would occur then the radio would stop and never turn back on. now the radio is always on and still the sound occurs more frequently and sounds like gunshots going off. it's been so loud it has scared me to the point where i've lost some control of the wheel. also the 911 assist can't be used when the radio isn't working. the vehicle can be sitting in my driveway of on the road.

Check engine light on, both on road and highway staling and front end making noise.

At 73,000 miles error code in dash read steering assist malfunction service needed. it is very difficult to steer my car. at 76,000 miles error code read engine too hot, stop safely and wait 8 minutes. car shudders and high revs at low speeds and very loud engine noise. i hope that ford recalls these issues soon!!!

Driver door do not close

Takata recall while driving my car going to work suddenly the passenger side door opens so i tie it with rope and bring it to mechanic after work and they found the door latch is not working, after 2 months same thing happen on the driver side door while driving going to grocery the door opens and it wont lock anymore so both my doors are tied with rope while driving.thank you

The transmission races and stay there this transmission has only lasted a year and three months now ford does'nt want anything to do with it. they knowingly knew there transmission were faulty. now they want me to come out pocket $611 to put another bad transmission in.

Transmission issues including shuttering and delayed forward motion when accelerating. also sounds like it idles too low when stopped at a light vibrates like it's going to die. sounds like something is going to fall out from under the hood when transmission changes gears. all happens when city driving. also check engine light came on when these issues began.

My electrical system was fixed by local ford dealer when i thought my transmission was the problem.they suppose to fix it but weeks after my dashboard went haywire and my radio stop working.i had to pay them close to 200.00 for the repairs.

Twice in the last month this car has stopped running, all the dash lights come on and it will not accelerate. the most recent time, my daughter was driving back to school in lubbock, tx going 80 mph when it shutdown. she tried to pull over but almost wrecked due to the fact she had no power brakes. i have seen many reports on the internet and youtube videos documenting the same thing she had happen to her. when she took it into the ford dealership they of course could not find an issue and they would not give her a loaner or rental car during the time it took them to look at it. this is obviously a safety issue with ford not having a fix. at this point, if i wasn't upside down on the car, i would trade it in on something different and it wouldn't be a ford. i digress.

I was verifiying on internet if my car had an open recall and it appears that a door latch with a fractured pawl spring. apparently a previous owner had an issue with one of the door no closing. need to work this situation as soon as possible, trying to transport my car over seas in less than a month and they wont do it if the car hace an open recall.

Transmission malfunction car stop working

Driving car-- and door sprung open-- will not close. i received notice this was a recall but shop states they did not have part and did not know when it would come in, i am still waiting, and since the door has failed.

Transmission shutters, and driver door opens up while driving.17 year old son drives this car worried about his safety. screen shot this document! !!!

Takata recall while driving my seat belts lock so tight i have to unbuckle them because they won't come lose.

I own a 2012 ford focus i brought it brand new and drove it off the lot. this car has been in the dealership 3 times for the transmission but it is still worse than driving a manual!!! i was notified months and months ago that there is a recall for the door latches. i have called several times trying to find out the latest info on the recall. not to my surprise no one from ford has bothered to call me back!!! i have my family in this car and i do not want any of them popping out!!! shame on ford for selling these cars.

Car stopped completely while driving on a city street. low fuel light did not come on. fuel gauge was showing close to empty but not all the way. check engine light was not on. when started at garage the low fuel light came on, but would not stay running after multiple tries. i think, and the mechanic agreed, that the fuel gauge sensor is defective. i feel unsafe now when driving for extended lengths of time, and am very concerned that this might happen when on a highway at higher speeds. if the vehicle stops in traffic this could cause a serious accident or fatality.

Driving (straight) on a highway going 55. car slows down to crawl, making grinding noise, error message appears "parking aid malfunction". was able to pull to side of road, put in park and cut off ignition. would not restart. dashboard still says car is in drive.

On long trips (over 160 miles) with consistently high speeds, the engine torque and tachometer gauge level rises/whines, indicating a shift should be made in the automatic transmission, but the automatic transmission lags behind, causing the hover/forward stall due to engine torque, much like when you increase the torque causing the engine to "roar" before shifting in a manual transmission. this usually happens while accelerating on higher speed roads and highways at higher speeds, usually 40-70 mph range and mostly when on a long trip w/o stopping, except for gas. car is always in motion and there is no change in engine temp and no warning lights lit.this problem has occurred many times in the past 18 months. the date indicated was the most recent date.

Transmission bucking, popping and revving high with no acceleration while in motion in 1st gear changing to 2nd gear and 2nd to 3rd gear. the vehicle had total loss of acceleration while turning onto a road by my house from a full stop. the sport mode on the gearshift lever does not light up and is not able to use. transmission problems are mostly in lower gears. this vehicle always had small transmission problems but this has gone to a dangerous point. i have made an appointment with my ford dealer, today is 6/13/17. they cannot get me in to see the vehicle until 6/19/17. while the ac is on, the vehicle always had issues accelerating on an slight incline. i just always assumed that it was just the way the vehicle was but it appears that it was just a symptom of an issue that has shown up later on.

I am receiving "electric power steering assist system" error messages as my power steering completely disappears. fortunately, each time it has been when i first start my vehicle and prepare to move. according to what i have read, ford has been aware of this issue, but i have never been notified. i have less than 50,000 miles on my car and this is just another in an ongoing "recall" situations. i have had starter issues, recall 15b22 transmission control module, silent recall for seal leak, car revving while driving down the highway and periodic display disappearance. i am very disappointed as i love the way the car handles and i get 40+ mpg on the highway but am now concerned about taking any trips or driving on highways as i have read this power steering issue can occur while in motion. this latest issue began about 2 months ago.

I went to get my oil changed someplace other than my ford dealership and since, the car has been running oddly. mostly issues with accelerating after sitting at a red light on roads where the speed is anywhere from 35 to 45 mph. it doesn't happen all the time, but i noticed it about a week after the oil change. the other issue, that is more cause for alarm, is that the doors will not close completely. first it was the passenger front door, then the passenger rear door and finally the driver rear door. all while stationary, thank goodness. since then, all but the driver's side front door have been secured with bungee cords for the last few weeks, because i did not have the funds to replace the door latches. one of which had been replaced only last year and cost me nearly $500 because the part hadn't been on recall! i then found out today that there is a recall on said parts that began in january 2017 but i have yet to be notified by my dealership! i only noticed because i wanted to see -if- there had been a recall due to hearing about a few other people having this same type of issue. see photos of bungee corded doors. this is extremely dangerous and those who own this same model of car should be notified immediately of a recall, not when parts are available. i would never have known had i not thought of doing my own research. i may never had known if i was waiting on my dealership to notify me... i may have been seriously injured or worse if i had waited on them.

Our family took part in the recall campaign that was due to defective transmissions ford sold previously. (this campaign was not easy to discover). the car would stop in the middle of traffic randomly, and still does after the dealership applied the fixes ford suggested. my mother experienced total power loss twice and was almost in two accidents because of that. (the problem still persists). there are only 54,000 miles on the car and it is in great physical condition.

The transmission constantly shudders, shakes and grinds. sometimes it won't even go into gear. it feels extremely unsafe.

The hands-free phone system (sync) malfunctions and stops working causing unexpected distraction to the driver. warranty is expired, although ford extended the warranty for this issue on other ford vehicles.

Recall--transmission clutch shudder/transmission input shaft seal warranty extension---field service action number = 14m01 i took my vehicle to homer skelton ford in olive branch, ms on 2/27/17 for a transmission control module recall. this recall goes up to 150,000 miles which my car has 135,000 miles so it was still in effect. the service guy told me that there was another recall regarding the transmission (i listed it at the top of page) that it expired at 100,000 miles. well my car had 98,329 miles when i bought it at city auto in memphis, tn. i had no way of knowing about the recall and i didn't receive a recall letter---the lady at ford customer service checked this out and told me that "no" i wasn't in their system for this recall letter. so now the dealership is wanting me to pay $2033 for repairs due to the 1st recall. the ford customer service (2 of them) told me to call the service manager and see if he has any resources. i called him twice yesterday...no answer either time. so when the service technician called me and told me my car was ready, he told me that he had to pull the service manager out of a meeting to describe my dilemma, which was to no avail. they said that i was responsible for the whole payment.

Upon driving on the highway, the transmission overheated. while driving the car on a road or highway - the transmission will randomly not shift causing the car to rev up high while other times the car will simply refuse to accelerate when the gas is being pressed. the transmission will shake, shudder, and make noise upon accelerating and changing gears. when at a stop light/stop sign and the car is at a complete stop - the transmission will often disengage and the car will lurch forward even though the brake was firmly pressed to the floor. upon lane changes, the transmission will randomly refuse to accelerate the car at all.

I could handle the studder and handle the being held hostage by my seat belt, but now i have to pay $1,800 to get my steering fix after almost hitting a tree with my family in the car. i was just about to upgrade to a escape, i will never buy ford again after this because i have 89000 on my car they will help with nothing. nor do they care about the safety of me and my family or the other people around me ! i have never been so disappointed. i truly loved this little car until it tried to kill me.

My 2012 ford focus has a transmission clutch defect.. my experience with the problem has been a rattle noise, during low gears, check engine light appears off and on, vehicle stalls as your driving, speedometer goes up when you are in park, and it causes the car to "flutter" in and out like it's about to shut off. i have had the defect fixed by the ford dealership three times.. i am now having take the car back to the dealership to be fixed for the fourth time. i just got my car back from being fixed again for the third time. that same day of picking up my car my son and i stalled out in the middle of the interstate three times! my son is 19 months old, as you can imagine i was fearing for our life.. cars going 70+ miles an hour, going past you, while your stalled out in the middle lane.. i couldn't get out the vehicle with my son, because remind you, i couldn't get out safely, all i could do was hope the people behind me could see my safety hazard lights.. this was not the first time i have stalled out in this car.. this makes stalling out number 6.. i have a huge safety concern with this car. i don't feel safe driving it, especially with my son in the car.. i just want the dealership to replace my car.. i want to feel safe driving and i am terrified to drive mine. *tr

Takata recall. the car will die in the middle of driving. doesn't matter the speed you are going the lights on the dashboard will light up and you cant accelerate or decelerate the car will just die.

The steering wheel has sharp edges in the aluminum trim in the center of the steering wheel, covering the horn & airbags. this trim is flaking & has very jagged edges. my husband & i have both cut our fingers, drawing blood on numerous occasions. what a feeling it is to flinch after being nicked while turning into a busy intersection, how dangerous..hurts like hell!!

Transmission shutters and hesitates while driving. there is a grinding noise when you give gas after turning a corner. dealership just reprograms and says it has to adjust to driver but it never fixes the issue. i worry a wreck may happen if the i can't make the car respond timely because of the hesitation. now they want to charge and i refuse! love the car but hate the transmission. you required a date below that this happened but this is a daily issue.

I was driving on a street and my door flung open and now it doesn't close.

The back door on the drivers side the outside handle on the back door is broken an the door wont shut. the outside handle to the door is not broken. on the inside of the door. after i took the door paniel of were the window go up and down. the tracker that lets the window down bye the latch were open the a peace of the white plastic handle is broken right bye the children's safty latches on the door. ms. virginia haltom

I was out running some errands. i had driven 15 miles to my destination. when i got back to my car, my passenger noticed that the door did not lock. i checked it and noticed that the latch did not activate to close. we had to drive home, through the street, holding the door. the car's system did not register the door opened.

While driving on a feeder road in texas, taking a right hand turn, the drivers side door opened on its own due to a latch failure. no injuries, and a recall has already been issued. the car also has an ongoing issue with the transmission causing the car to lunge forward at both high and low speeds. the transmission has already been "repaired" once under warranty, but has started showing the same issues for a second time. currently with dealer.

The door on the front passenger side of my 2012 ford focus suddenly opened while the vehicle was in motion nearly causing an accident. i was travelling on the highway at approx. 50 mph when the front passenger side door sprung open causing the vehicle travelling next to me to swerve away. the week before the front driver side door open unexpectedly.

Door latch failure. one by one the door latches failed. when this happens the doors open and will not stay closed. first the drivers door latch, then the passenger door and most recently the passenger rear.

I was driving vehicle and turned a corner into a 2 lane road and right passenger door flew open at the same time the passenger door ajar warning came on pulled the vehicle over and tried to shut door and the door latch would not catch and close. i had to secure the door with a bungee cord to secure door but door still tried to come open. door latch will not engage to be locked.

Door latch failure: driver's side door swung open while driving.
